Valhalla final is just Valhalla with no themes or audio mods. Just a super fast and awesome ROM. Valhalla black edition is just Valhalla but with Raver's audio mods and an ICS like theme and with themed apps. But nonetheless, they are both great ROMs.

How to Change ROMS
I know this question has nothing to do with this thread, but hopefully somebody can help me, I'm a noob.. I've finally successfully rooted and flashed my Galaxy S 4G last night with Vahalla Black. If I want to try Octane, do I need to remove Vahalla first? How exactly should I go about doing it?

Go into cwm, go to mounts and storage, format cache, format data, format system, flash octane, reboot. Wait 10 mins, reboot, use phone.

Valhalla black is Valhalla final with a dark theme and almost all bloat removed.
Valhalla final has most of the bloat still packaged into it with a pink unicorn theme in which can be removed and has more of the stock look and feel to it.

Themes...

hey,
im new this with whole thing and have a question about themes. I have a G2X and have it rooted with GB. Can i down load any theme to put on it or do i have to have something else?
Depends. Look in the theme thread for what roms the theme is compatible with. All of my themes are for the weapon rom.

Well you have to flash all the themes typically unless the rom has Tmobiles Theme Chooser (CM7 Themes) support. In order to flash you have to NVFlash Clockwork Recovery. And if your that far you wouldn't be using a stock rom because you'd be using a much better rom, probably with theme support....
Hence why no one really plays with stock. It's stock for a reason. If you start flashing, modding, changing, and themeing the stock rom... you don't have a stock rom.
Non-CM7 based roms require flashing themes
CM7 based themes can be downloaded from the market and installed on the fly
MIUI's built-in theme editor can download and combine tons of themes on the fly
I'm not sure what I have now. Think stock but rooted. I added some add ones but that's it. I did flash to get it rooted
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
In all honesty once you flash cm7, you wont go back to stock. Not only can you choose themes and more settings, but your battery life will increase. Mine nearly doubled in battery life. I can go all day without charging, stock rom I would be on the charger by 5.
I'd recommend cm7 period.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Where can I get that one at?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Seems like you're really new to all this so before doing anything I suggest you do some light reading on CM7 and what it really is. Head over to their website and see what it is.
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
Also, did you root via NVFLASH method? If so then I'm assuming you at least have CWM 3.x.x?
If so, then the rest is easy.
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Format /System
Then flash CM7. Good luck.
Yes I am. Yes I'm pretty sure I did that way to root it. I will have to read and about everything.

kernel recommendations

so i finally was abel to flash gb octane 3.0 no ciq edition and was wondering if i should stay with the kernel that comes with it or are there better ones out there any recommendations
Just hang tight with what you have in Octaine. It has the latest released kernal from bhundven. And raver will release the tricked out version soon. Unless you want to flash vahalla black edition which I believe I read has an unreleased kernal from bhundven. Both fantastic roms.

if you use any of the mods it will prob mess up the mods that are already built into the rom. But if you want to go down that road go ahead, but don't complain when it starts actting funny, or messes up n u have to wipe n reflash.
Edit: the themes n the themes n apps section are fine tho, n wont mess anything up.

What????
"Ok thanks any more mods I can put on this mod to make it smoother"
Make a back up and try whatever you want. I tried several on Octaine. Nothing messed up. But Raver modded the hell out of the rom itself. There is a modded camera.apk and Modded media_profiles.xml that I use and prefer. There is an updated market that I don't believe is in that version of Octaine. Version 3.4.4. You have Lightning Zap Tweak you can try. Adrenaline Shotv12. ThunderBolt! v2.3.2
BACK UP YOUR ROM and play around.

I would try Bhundven's [Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011] and use the "Fully Back-To-Stock UVKJ6" one. That will put you on stock 2.3.6 with the right boot loaders. After that, re-flash the Octane kernel.
I can't remember if Octane has voodoo or not; you'd have to go into recovery and see if you have CWM or standard 3E recovery.
I had whitehawkx kd1 nd odined Bali kernel with cwm because I couldnt get it to work the other way then I flashed octane then when I try to get into recovery mode I get the rainbow screen

KD1 & Bali are both Froyo ROMs. Octane is a Gingerbread (GB) ROM which requires different boot loaders. You would need to install a ROM that has the correct GB boot loaders to get rid of the rainbow screen. The one-click I mentioned has them
Im goin to give it a try thanx ive had issues trying to get cwm on GB do

[Theme]Touch of ICS for Stock 2.3.4

This is ONLY for the official stock 2.3.4 LG ROM that introduced the new March 2012 baseband!!
I repeat, DO NOT FLASH ON ANYTHING ELSE.
Ok so since my real first porting of a theme (which was a little of a disaster in my opinion...) I've gotten a lot better/smarter.
This port is probably going to be the final. There's honestly nothing wrong with it so far that I can tell.
I might change the drop down menu background to something else maybe. For some reason, even if you use a transparent image... it still isn't transparent for me.
I just kind of grabbed some random image for the background and used it... it was supposed to repeat itself and just kind of scaled... and doesn't look too bad in my opinion.
How to install:
Download the attachment to SD card
Boot into CWM
(Optional) Create a backup in case of boot loop
Flash the zip
Reboot device
There is no need to wipe cache or dalvik or any of that nonsense. I NEVER do, but you can if you're paranoid enough.
Known Issues:
None.
Notes:
I disabled the overscroll glow. I just personally do not like it and it tends to make the device lag when it appears.
I didn't do any .xml changes so no colors should be ugly on certain other windows/frames.
The font in my screenshots will NOT be applied to your phone; that is the font I use and it is not included in the theme.
SOLUTION IF YOUR PHONE BOOT LOOPS
If your phone bootloops it means you dirty flashed 2.3.4 onto your device which means you were on 2.3.3, then you upgraded to 2.3.4 via LG Update tool, and then tried to flash this theme.
So what you have to do (and SHOULD do anyway) is download the rooted 2.3.4 stock ROM (thanks to kwes) and do a fresh install of it (wipe data/factory reset and format /system) then this theme will work 100%.

I don't know what could have gone wrong. Nothing is wrong with my .zip. No one else is having problems nor getting any bootloops.
It's possible you got a bad download of the file. Try re-downloading it again and flashing.
Wonder who rated this thread 2 stars :/??
OP has been updated with 2 different batteries: the circular battery by request, and the CM7 battery with the number and little bar on the right side of it.
Hey man i've loved it, can you add the CRT on and off animation, please? I want it cus the stock one when you press the button to turn screen on shows the previous screen that I was before and then go to lock screen(very fast), know what i'm saying? That's annoying, thanks for the theme!!

Thank you and yeah I know what you mean.
I've stated before that I'm not a developer, nor am I a themer; I just simply port over stuff.
I would love to have the screen off animation, and quick toggles as seen in weapon and bionix, but I don't even know the beginning stuff. I'd have to do a lot, lot of reading and experimenting... which I may do one day but work keeps me pretty busy.
By the time I learn anything worthwhile I'm sure a developer would have already made a custom ROM out of this and did all that stuff .
Believe me, I want all that neat stuff too.
Yeeeeah, I've stopped using ics roms because of little things like that, I love when the rom works smooth and fast, it would be awesome if any developer did the crt on and off animation work here, I'm missing the toggles too

[ROM]BuROM v0.2, SLIGHTLY Modded Stock 2.3.4 v21y

This ROM is based off of kwes's Rooted Stock v21y ROM plus a few tweaks here or there. In the screenshots are the slightly modified Arc'd theme and I added my Touch of ICS theme which also has the CRT off animation.
Features added by kwes1020:
v21y 2.3.4 update
Root -unsecured boot.img
init.d support
deodexed (was already that way in the update)
zipaligned
Little tweaks by me:
Increased VM heap size to 64mb
Added a few tweaks to build.prop
LED lights will now be on the lowest brightness at bootup (thanks to lotherius's script)
Changed SD read-ahead speed to 2048
Removed bloatware that 90% of people don't use
Deleted gallery3d and replaced with quickpic (MUCH better)
HOW TO INSTALL: (Taken from Kwes1020's original thread)
To install:
1. Reboot into cwm
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Go to advanced>wipe dalvik cache
4. Go to mounts and storage>format /system.
5. Go to install zip from SD card.
6. Install the zip and reboot.
You can also dirty flash this on top of kwes1020's rooted stock ROM, but make sure you still reboot once before applying the theme!!
HOW TO INSTALL EDITED ARC'D THEME: (has to be done this way)
You MUST first go through the initial setup screen
Boot back into CWM
Flash theme
Reboot
Once again on installing the theme... first format system/factory reset, then flash the buruROM, reboot, go through the initial setup, then go back into cwm, and flash the theme.
You can also do a dirty flash of this ROM over the stock 2.3.4 ROM as long as it's the one kwes has posted.
Will you see a performance increase?
Eh, probably not? I mean maybe... but nothing too big I don't think. This is mainly for me just to do something when I have free time... and also for some of you crack-flashers that have this to hold onto until kwes finishes/releases his ROM.
DOWNLOAD BuROM v0.2.
NOTES:
I recommend using the Touch of ICS theme/CRT off animation theme just because it uses the original number of files from stock instead of UOT Kitchen adding a crap-load that aren't necessary... MAYBE it'll be a speed increase.
One bug I've noticed is the charging animation will always show you having like 10% battery but don't worry, you're phone IS CHARGING and nothing is wrong lol... that's the only bug I've noticed so far, oh and that the battery is in increments of 5%.
Link changed to Google Drive instead of Media Fire and I decided that BuROM is the best name lol.
Reserved just in case...
And also, I couldn't think of a neat name (like bionix, or eagle's blood, or tsugi) for the ROM... so just did something generic. I'm bad with making up names.
pretty cool that you are learning a lot so quickly! I've been thinking of going to 2.3.4 again... maybe after I buy a bunch of spare batteries for the phone. Good job though Buru.

Burom is a winner for a name in my book. Quick question: I installed and put your modded theme on it. Now I get no notification area. Spent the morning testing cm9 with Harsh's kernel(no dice) and reset to your rom, so my rom switchingis dragging.

CleanROM 5.6

I wanted to post a BIG thank you to the devs at CleanROM 5.6 but since I'm a newb it wouldn't let me post in the CleanROM development section. Just wanted to say THANK YOU! I installed Tuesday late afternoon and yesterday was my first full day on it. 15 hours of normal use (lots of texting, a few 10-15 minute phone calls, facebook etc) and I was still on 50% battery!

Running CleanROM 5.6 with LeanKernel 1.6 seems to be a great combination.
I agree with you. It was my daily driver for a few weeks and I absolutely enjoyed it. It was a professionally handled rom.
Best ROM out there by far.

Love this ROM. When Scott originally said he was going to give up his phone to his wife and stop development I started trying others but I always come back to the best. This ROM rocks with the ktoonz kernel on smartassv2 and row.

I absolutely love this Rom as well. Unfortunately for me I will be reverting back to rooted stock. That's the only way my GPS with Maps will work. I tried EVERY suggestion recommended. I tried GPSFix. I tried GPS Status. I even followed instructions on flashing A GPS PATCH and it installed correctly. Tried again same thing. Locks but when I start moving it jumps around. I try to navigate somewhere it shows me in another state. All messed up. When I go back to stock with root I have no problems. Oh well.
Edit; Went back to stock everything on my phone and still having GPS issues. I guess I'm gonna have to go get myself a replacement phone
I too have had the best experience with CR. Jumped on board around 2 or so. I've tried others but keep coming back to CR. Best battery, stability, and support. Thanks Scot!
I've been running CR lite for a long time and that's only ROM that is not flickering on email. I am loving this a lot.

5.6 is the newest.
When new update is released. Down load ROM and simply dirty flash over 5.6
For lean kernel. One must download and place in SD card.
Boot into recovery.
Flash or install ( whatever you call it) the kernel.
Wipe cache

If I install kernel and then wipe cache, wipe valvik and fix permissions, will it erase my phone's data? Do I have to re-install apps, re-log into everything, etc...?

Love this ROM! Running the 5.6 verison, with Lean Kernel. Flashed note 2 gallery/camera and AOSP messaging, couldn't ask for a better setup
4x5 launcher? ?
Does anybody know if a 4x5 launcher is available for this newest version? I've found some old ones and flashed them to no avail.....
