MMS Fix? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Ok so i have a friend on sprint that always sends pictures to me via text message. Only about half the time i am able to view them, and the other half of the time it says i must download the picture from the text. If i choose to download them i will click download, but the download will fail anyway and i will not be able to see those mms. I am using the stock messaging thing, and i kinda want to stick with it and not change it to a new app. Is there anything i can do to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Is it just this friend on Sprint?
Do you use Wifi?

It is mostly just my friend that uses sprint. And yes i use wifi, and have tried using it to download the mms. No luck

I've had lots of issues with getting mms while using wifi, even with stock rom, wifi calling active or not... that might be your issue.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Yeah, that's actually what I was going to say.
Wifi and trying to download MMS? No go. But if you're failing to download even on just regular data... Hm.
I believe that's something about the CM7 messaging app, right? Cause I hear wifi downloading works on the stock g2x one. I can't actually back that up because I don't want to lose the CM7 features, haha.
Edit: Like the MMS.apk download from Weapon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207125
Although, it says MMS sending, so I dunno.
If you've got the time and patience and this friend wants to send a lot of MMS... I would say just flash a few different roms (2.3.3 stock, 2.3.5+ CMs, or some MIUI) and just see if anything changes. I don't know what that will tell you, but.. it's for science!

I think it is something with your APN configuration.
Did you try post this question in Revolution HD Rom thread?
If your in the us and using a European rom u will have problems. Idk if that's your case
I had the same issue, I fixed mine with a wipe not sure why mine wouldnt send though, all i could figure out on mine was i used NoSense++ which may have messed it up, i switched to Mike's nosense script and my MMS works, How is your rom setup? Sense NoSense??
Mine wont send MMS either, I however am bone stock still. Have not done the OTA upgrade either.
I did a superwipe and am running ARHD 3.0.3 with sense and sms/mms inbound/outbound work for me on TMOUS.
just so you guys know, if you dont already, you cant be connected to data via wifi if you want to download or send mms messages, you have to be using your mobile network due to security issues.

Correct i use Wifi at home all the time and get MMS, When your phone needs the cell network it will use it.
Following worked for me (in India)
Copy the settings of "mms" APN to "default" then try.
I'm using the sense version of RevHD3.0.3.
Live in the UK.
APN all setup to correct settings.
MMS is enabled on provider (T-Mobile)
Seems to be the whole limit thing with MMS as I sent a low quality photo as soon as I installed the ROM, but failed with higher quality. I tried to use the MMS script to alter the allowed file sizes but still it failed. Did a full wipe, installed RevHD3.0.3, then the script. Just bust

[Q] Group Chat not working and Apps not updating?

Im using a Samsung Focus bought from Rogers but using with Fido. It's NOT unlocked however, but works though.
I heard that MMS wont work if I use Rogers phone on Fido, and that's true, it doesnt.
But I have 2 other problems, and Im not sure if they are my Samsung Focus' problem or a Window Phone problem.
1) I tried the group chat feature for the first time a few weeks ago and turns out it doesnt work! When I try it out, it tells me there has been an error or something.
2) I noticed that when I go to the original Marketplace app, it doesn't show the updates for my apps. I remember it did before and it updated all my apps, but last month I found out some of the apps I had have been updated but yet the Marketplace doesnt tell me that and I have no idea how to update them. I have a lot of apps and I don't want to go through each one of them to see if they have updates and then reinstall; that would be terribly tedious.
So does anyone else have one of these 2 problems and does anyone know how I could fix them?
Thank you!
ETA: also just for your information, my Focus has the latest update I believe. the 7740 version
MMS works on ATT if you run att connection setup. Does samsung have something similar for rodgers?
updates should work... what if you use wifi?
Maybe something has them hung up along the way. hard reset to fix it?

I dont mind not having MMS. I dont use data, I only use wifi. Yea, so far, it seems like the only way to fix the app update problem is by resetting the phone. But i still dont know whats causing the group chat to not work; and yes, I did turn group chat on in the settings.
thanks for the reply

[Q] WIND data/mms doesn't work on any 2.3 rom

Hi all,
I'm having a bit of trouble with my milestone xt720. I can't get any gingerbread based ROM to work with 3g/MMS correctly. I've tried fjfalcon's CM7, J.Y.Daddy's CM7, HONO, Ice&Fire... I can't get any connections trying to send MMS. Yet, when I use CM6, Bravo or even MIUIv4, my mms is working.
I've tried applying Wind baseband, tried flashing brightpoint and UK sbfs incase that was the issue to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Any WIND xt720 users have anything similar? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...
And even when I'm on CM6, the MMS/Data only works if I flick data on and off. Otherwise, my mms will just sit in messaging (with no notification!) with a link to download.
any help is greatly appreciated!
Hey there. First things first: what are your steps to set up the ROM? Do you always flash, factory reset? Or do you flash the SBF?
Did you also set up your APN settings after flashing an SBF? More information would be good
I usually restore to a nandroid of the stock WIND config, then boot into OR, apply updates then factory reset/ clear cache. However, I was afraid that was the problem, so I tried flashing both the UK SBF and Brightpoint SBF with fjfalcon's CM7.2 and neither have worked either.
My APNs remain after I flash, for some reason. I've tried re-entering them too.
you need to set the APN first
else it's not going to work
what is currently shown on your APN list?

WIND CA and WIND CA MMS. All the settings should be correct, since they work when I use them on CM6.3.6 rom.
I'm so confused

So, just to clarify: this issue is more related to you sending/receiving MMS rather than related to 3G data at all?
I only use CM6, and I have the same issues with receiving MMS. The fact that there is a quick workaround (as you have described, turning data on and off) means that I don't really consider this a problem. Sending MMS works fine for me: you can see the quick 3G turning off and on again when it sends successfully.
I don't really have enough experience with CM7 roms to say anything, maybe others could chime in here?

Well, I guess, but in those instances where I can't send MMS, I can't get a data signal either. To be honest, I'd be fine with this on&off mms thing if the camera on CM6.3.6 was more stable... the reason why I want to switch up to CM7 is 'cause the camera was more stable for me.
Could anyone would has gotten CM7 to work on Wind with 3G chime in?
Thanks!
update
I just tried flashing ChronosX and as expected, MMS and data don't work. This was a fresh install from SBF and the APNs was checked to be correct.
Does anyone else experience this?
I just flashed brianlili's CronosX RC2 and I was able to send an MMS no problem. The 3G went off and on like it usually does. Also got one of my friends to send an MMS (he's on Fido), and with the same behavior I got his MMS too.
I also tried this on fjfalcon's CM 7.2.0 (yes, I was on a ROM spree today haha) with the same success. The same 3G off/on behavior occurred as well.
It may help if you redescribe your problem again, in a bit more clarity?
Thanks for replying.
When I'm using a gingerbread ROM, and I try to send an MMS, it'll just keep saying "Service is not available, etc". I can't receive MMS either, I just get the link to download it, which returns the same error. The 3G never turns on at all.
I made sure that I an using correct APNs and that Data is on. I try flicking it on and off too like on CM6 to no avail. Is there something I'm forgetting?
Thanks

Problems with MMS

I can't get MMS to work at all. Can't send or receive with ANY app. I just says HiddenSenderAddress and fails to download when receiving and does NOTHING when trying to send them. The ones I receive that can't be opened if I try to delete them it crashes the app, no matter what app I'm using. So weird. I wish I knew what was wrong. I'm using Weapon G2x with Faux123 Kernel but I can't imagine that would have anything to do with it because no matter what messaging app it fails.
Anyone else having this or resolved this?
Did you just flash the rom and this happens, or have you used the rom for a while and this just started to happen, all of a sudden?

There were reports of problems with MMS using Weapons. He had a download for the Stock MMS to correct the problems.

Too answer both questions I've had it flashed about a month but didn't get any MMS in that time, just SMS. I did flash the stock MMS and still a no go.
Just use a different rom.

[Partially solved][Q] Couple of strange problems...

Hey guys I'm having a few issues with my phone and if anyone has had these problems before and have any fixes.
I'm running Cyanogen 2013-02-01 with stock kernel
1. I seem to be having problems with sending mms messages when over wifi. Now with this though, I can perfectly send them over 4g etc. If I happen to turn turn wifi ON I have to go into recovery and wipe the cache and dalvik cache before I can send a mms again over 4g, otherwise it might take a day or three to send the message.
2. Having strange thumbnail previews of pics as you can see in the pic. But this is also going on on my desktop after uploading the photos from say dropbox or anything. This doesnt happen to every photo but it's irritating because it will cover the view of the photo I may want to view.
pic url too: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u7trfxtf2zus4ir/2013-06-16 18.30.42.png
If anyone has any ideas or solutions aside from flashing (personal reasons about backing up) I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks!
Figured I would update the OP;
Partially Solved - The thumbnail icons was partially solved by doing quite a bit more digging and found that I should delete the thumbs.db file in the DCIM folder. I did that and only a few images were fixed. Also the MMS seems to be fixed as I believe it had probably been a bad flash because I did get the time to do my OCD backups and reflash/restore what I needed to so a fresh flash seemed to do the trick for now. Thanks for the info guys!
You cannot send mms over wifi. Mms will always be sent using data. Even if you are on wifi, data needs to be toggled and you will see the 4g icon appear as the message sends even while you're connected to a wifi network
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
That helps a bit, but I have data still toggled on and still doesn't send. :/
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
That's weird. Cm7 was always nice to me with Mms as long data was toggled. Have you checked apn settings?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Cyanogenmod uses its own custom messaging app. To restore mms over wifi, you need to flash the stock one. It should be available in the CM7 topic, maybe hellfire phoenix.

I haven't had any types problems regarding data/call/cell etc. So I didn't think of that. I'll double check them.

I should of also mentioned I use the Handcent app for messaging and such and never had this problem before. I remember back in old threads something about mms and wifi being a problem at one point but didnt think that would apply to CM by now. I'll go back and do some searching see if there is a fix.
maybe try the go sms app. and try checking the option for it to handle all your sms stuff. its the option you check if youve uninstalled your stock sms app. because it might just be a bug in the stock sms app.
