Just downloaded Modern Combat 3 for $0.99 on the Android Market. I am on a NS4g wth ICS. The game installs but when I try to launch it is stuck on a continuous loop of "checking license...". Has anyone with a NS or NS4g with ICS had any luck running this game?
no clue about market but i do have current 1.0.1 powervr version and works fine
thanks for heads up about .99 been waiting for this drop going to go purchase
Do you have force gpu rendering enabled? Try disabling it in the developer options.

Working totally fine and smooth on my Nexus
Yeah it's working fine on my stock 4.0.3 Nexus as well!
hmmmm... runs like crap for me. Choppy audio, tons of lag and super long load times make it unbearable to play. glad I only paid 99 cents.
9020a, official 4.0.3, GLaDOS kernel @ 1200 mhz
Bought it. Downloading game data now. Will see if it works well and post.

I bought it. Runs fine but lags a lot and very frequently like it was loading data from sdcard during game. I don't have other applications running in background, and I'm running almost stock ICS (+ simple kernel). Maybe freeing some ram would fix the issue
On I9023 stock ICS 4.0.3 works fine.
Sometimes a little bit laggy, but fine.
I bet it lags more because the SD card reading speed is like couple times slower then on GB.

Works extremely well for me. Its so smooth no lag even on multi player.

For me it lags like hell on stock ICS. I also think it's because of the SD card speeds. How can we get Google to fix this. Additionally, I also suspect that the graphics acceleration doesn't work as well as in Gingerbread for 3D games.
On my nexus s with cm9a18 (ics 4.0.3) it works.
A little bit lagging but it's playable.
I have had exactly the same problem as the OP only on my Motorola Xoom running a 3rd party ROM (Tiamat ICS).
The game ran fine on the HC build but none of my Gameloft games (MC3, Asphalt 6 and GTA 3) runs on ICS but all ran fine on HC. This is the only thing that stands between me and a permanent move to ICS (which runs much better than HC) so I'd love to sort it out.
Let's not play the blame game here okay!
I blame all of you then!
Settle down, I haven't even heard of this game to yet alone try and port it. Is it a paid app? If so I dont think that's a good idea to even take it apart and share.

Getting really hacked off with this now as I've tried both CM9 kang and EOS builds of ICS and both will cause GTA3 to hang after the game initially loads. I then have to manually close it as it just locks up completely.
Anyone found a cure for this cos I need ICS but also NEED to play GTA3......lol
Any help greatly appreciated.
Need? Why is it a matter of life and death? You NEED food and water, you dont Need ICS & GTA 3, rather you would like to have both.
Looks like your SOL as far as having both ICS & GTA 3 and will have to prioritise which is more important, until an update is released.
Im getting a similar issue. The game boots and i can play it for a while, but it always eventually locks up on me. Its the only game that does this for me too. I tried it using several of the Kang ICS builds on my wifi only Xoom.
Tried lowering clock speeds too since i am overclocked.
works fine on the stock build of ICS here
Fudge it, might just roll back to stock and wait for OTA then.....lol

How long have you played the game in one stretch? My game "works fine" for a few minutes too but then freezes. I'm curious how long have you played in one continuous session?
I'm on stock ics longest I've managed is 5 mins of gta. Redownloading the data part as was my old files from honeycomb hoping it works.
Didn't work still freezes.
Just tried gta settings low high mixed nothing helped.

Not really surprising that a lot of the "high end" games are broken with ICS. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure there were enough under the hood changes in the OS from HC to ICS that would break games like GTA3.
just installed gta 3 on my xoom. seems to be working fine.
Theres a rooted CWM flashable version of the stock ICS rom around. I think it's pinned in the dev section. I'm running it and all of the apps (games) I know and love (including GTAIII) run beautifully.
Winning!
Just updated GTA3 from the marketplace to version 1.3 and it seems to have been fixed, just played for 30mins or so without a hitch!
Still an awesome game, love cruising round to 'Push it to the Limit', brings back memories!

No problems with the last update and Team Rogue's CM9
I have the wifi only kang cm9 leak installed, along with the latest GTA3 patch and now I don't have lockups anymore. Played GTA3 for one hour, overclocked to 1.4ghz. No problems whatsoever.
Looks like they fixed it.
1.3 for me froze just after leaving the garage at the start of the game - could be because the sd files were from version 1.2?
have uninstalled and removed the sd files and redownloading... not sure if it will help.
sounds like 1.3 fixed it for everyone though
after the 1.3 update....working fine on my xoom and nexus both running ICS. played for 2 hours on xoom no bugs or crashing
No crash?
Anyone tried this on Xperia mini working with ICS ?
I'm downloading it right now to test it

All,
Since upgrading to ICS on my transformer, i have found that some graphically developed games tend to crash in the exact same manner... during some high graphic scene like an explosion or a car crash, etc the frame freezes and becomes distorted, all the while the sound is still going. A few seconds later the game crashes and im back to the home screen.
So far i have seen this on:
ShadowGun (non tegra optimized version)
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Frontline Commando (this one ive had before ICS for a while with no issue)
Has anyone seen anything like this? And more importantly does anyone know of a solution?

ICS is still under-developed ! I mean there are some minor bugs. NFS Hot Pursuit just froze a few mins ago for me !!!!! Used "force stop" and restart app......otherwise have to reboot. The devs are working on the latest update, and some ROMs are a little behind.
It's an annoyance, I know........but a minor one ??
Good luck !!
Yes, since going to ICS on my SGS2 Spiderman and a bunch of other Gameloft games have started crashing after a few minutes of running.
The audio is fine and and all in game videos also run without hitch, as soon as you start to play, blink its gone.
I have been in touch with Gameloft but as yet they are niether confirmning nor denying an issue with the games and ICS.
If anything of use comes from Gameloft I will update here.
Hope it can be sorted soon, my son is going mad with no Spiderman and Shrek Kart!
update
Just an an FYI, I have found that after a reboot the games run fine for a while. I have actually started purposely rebooting after running for over 18hrs straight. after that the weird stuff (app crashes, display glitches, etc) is an almost certainty.
Gameloft have admitted issues with certain games and ICS. They asked me to email them details of game versions and ICS Builds and what exactly happened to produce the crash etc. (the usual stuff)
Apparently they are working on updates....? Hmmm we'll see.
Either way a barrage of techies emailing them software specs and demanding updates can only help.
The address I used was [email protected]
It took them days to reply each time but they did respond!
I had this happening on EOS build 12 with gangstar:rio and order&chaos, especially order and chaos.
Was probably a bug in the kernel, as they work just fine on eos 19.
nasty: I hope you told them to add TF support for all the games working on A500/xoom !
Unfortunatly, this problem still persist. There's a bunch of games I can't play on my TF101, even with stock rom.
Here's a small list
Magicka
Ice Age Village
Auralux
Bards Tale
This are basically, games that use high end graphics.
Is there a chance that my gpu/cpu is broken?

Like a 0.1% chance. The kernel in the stock Asus ROMs suck. They have been problematic with memory management (including graphics memory, which is likely the problem here) since the first Asus ICS release. Flash a better kernel (guevor's in ICS or KAT in JB) and try again.

Hi all, So i have a galaxy tab 2 7" gt-p3113 with root access. I need to know how to, if possible, downgrade from the stock ics 4.03 that it was shipped with to Honeycomb. There just arent enough apps availiable for ICS and a lot of them are so buggy I'd rather have honeycomb. Any ideas? If I am not mistaken the process is pertinent to each device and might not even be possible since the gt-p3113 and gt-p3110 are shipped with ics... Hopefully it can be done

nothing to downgrade. ics is stock lowest on these. And I don't see much desire to develop custom roms for an older android system. Best bet just wait it out, ics is new, just like hc and gb were. When they came out apps had glitches too.
I haven't found any apps that give me issues on ICS yet. Have you bothered reporting the apps you're having issues with to let the developer(s) know there are problems? Also, the only way to get Honeycomb would be to build it from AOSP, which likely isn't going to happen.
What apps are you having issues with? I haven't seen any apps having issues with ics.

I've gotten those two games to run and download SD data by modifying my build.prop to match the Galaxy Nexus.. You don't want to run them on your tablet anyway, it was quite laggy when I tried. Other GL games work fine.. like order and chaos, asphalt 6, etc.
ya same nova3 was fine mc3 was super laggy and choppy.... sad day.
would overclocking it help? and if so, what is it safe to overclock it to?

Mc3 maybe didn't run right because it needs some mods. It didn't run right on my phone until they released it officially for it.
not enough ram for ics os
galaxy 2 doesn't have enough ram to run ics and apps too, at least not efficiently. I have sg2 phone and now the tab and I think ICS uses too many resources to allow apps to run effectively too. I see alot of force closes and very laggy performance . I upgraded phone to iCS and hated it. Odined back to gingerbread. May take the tab back because of ics. (Tab has same memory structure as sg2 phone ). I do use GO launcher which I'm sure eats some resources ,so I'll try taking that off and see if there is a vast improvement, but I suspect there won't be .
I've actually found ICS to be less buggy then HC and GB. Maybe your fc issues are caused by something else? Gameloft's non-support for the gtab2 is a known issue, but the other problems could be fixed by fixing permissions in CWM.
Okay I like my nexus. As a matter of fact its the best phone I've ever owned but... Am I alone when I say it can't handle jelly bean? I've noticed stutters in various places compared to ICS. Or am I missing something?

Have you tried a factory reset? Mine was running very smoothly on the OTA. I also wiped my phone before and after the update.
Honestly I don't find it that much buttery. In some app it even seems slower. But I'm running custom ROM with some restored apps.
Maybe with a total fresh start it will work better...

Are you running OTA or some custom ROM? I tried a few different JB ROM's + kernels and wasn't very impressed. It was a very stuttery experience with lots of slowing downs. I guess i had too much junk laying around after so many flashes.
So i wiped everything, went back to stock image and got the OTA JB that way and rooted it. It's been running very smoothly ever since I wouldn't say it's a HUGE improvement over ICS..but maybe like 20% smoother. It's definitely not slower than ICS (i was running both stock ICS 4.04 and CM9 RC1 before. The only places i noticed the lack of buttery smoothness is when opening Google Now and the Camera app. The camera itself is fast and all, but the start up time is longer than i remember on ICS.
From my experience, it's actually "smoother" but not really faster than ICS.
Just went back to CM9 RC2 and I must say that it's much faster than any JB ROMs out there but just doesn't have buttery smooth animation.
I quite like JB. I don't use custom roms (I prefer stock with matr1x), and JB is nicer that ICS. Previously, recent apps was useless to me. It took forever to load. now it loads in an instant. also, I don't get ~10 seconds of lag after I install/uninstall an app, faster to boot, faster to finish loading apps after booting and the ui is much nicer. Ofc, it does stutter from time to time, but it's negligible, as far as I'm concerned. Project Butter is really doing stuff right.
Ofc, it's not as smooth and fast as on the gnex, but that's to be expected. The hw is not as good. But it does a pretty good job. I really wish google would upgrade the kernel and make it use all the ram available...don't see why they don't use it all...

Instead of pressing the search soft key just press the Google logo on the Google bar... that will bring up search faster
mine seems good
I understand your feelings, but JB on nexus s is better than ICS, maybe not faster but definitely smoother. JB does give a nicer feel to the whole phone experience.
If you're on custom rom, try the stock one Afresh. I flashed stock Ics then got JB ota. I have also used Stevens JB and oodies. But after a fresh install, the stock one seems the best. However, I'm waiting for CM10 as CM9 is definitely better than stock ICS. I'm expecting the same from CM10.

I am asking myself the same question as the op. When I got my nexus s about a year ago it replaced a horribly slow nokia n86. The new UI felt fast. With time I got used to the speed of the UI and was generally quite happy with the performance.
Then came ICS and I began to wonder. Sometimes apps took a few secons to open a certain menu, sometimes the same menu was opened in half a second. Now with JB i get the impression that these inconsistent lags are appearing even more often. A typical usecase for me:
Listening to music via BT headset -> press power -> unlock screen -> select (standard) music app -> search for a specific song.
Sometimes this works as expected with <0.5s between steps, sometimes unlocking or opening the music app takes >3 seconds.
I should note that my system is completely stock and was never unlocked or rooted. I did the OTA to ICS and now to JB as intended by google. I never whiped any cache nor did I ever reinstall. When I have the time I may try that just to see if it makes any difference. For the moment though, I am left with the impression that 512mb ram and a single core CPU are not enough for a 2012 OS.
I'm finding a big improvement over ICS. I can't say I've found anything that doesn't work at least as good as ICS and a lot of stuff works better for me. The smoothness has really improved my 'user experience'.
That being said the app developers need to play catch up and get their stuff optimized for JB.
Can't wait to try the amazing custom JB ROMs that are going to be rolling out soon as well.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Same here, I notice quite a few stutters, and I believe more than I had on ICS.
Maybe I'll try to flash stock Google ICS, and then do the official Google OTA update. The current ROM I'm using is this one, but maybe that is really not 100% the same as the Google OTA version?
Also, I'm truly disappointed at the fact that I can't use my voice on Google Now without having the whole cell phone in English. If I don't have the menus in English, all it does is Google searches... Basically seems like anyone that doesn't speak English natively is alienated.
Hopefully chainfire updates chainfire 3d opengl driver to work with jb .
Made ICS significantly smooth should do same with JB
Currently using CM10 and it works perfectly. I have not seen any lag whatsoever so i am pretty happy with it. I used the stock OTA but it was a major battery drain. That's really all I have seen that is negative.

Can try to disable Force GPU rendering in Developer options to solve shutters.
On my i9023 JB, the graphic is slower but my battery life has improve than on ICS. Dont know it is because of JB or I reset the batt setting b4 upgrade to JB.
I recently installed this ROM on my dev phone, and while it's working a lot better than I expected that it could, I have a couple questions:
1) Is there any way to make Pandora stay running? Right now it gets maybe 25% though a song before it crashes. This is from a fresh boot, with no additional apps open, and Pandora running in the foreground.
2) Same thing as above, memory issues. The stock browser randomly closes, and Chrome is impossible.
I know that it's just an alpha, and a nice one at that. Just wondering if anyone could enlighten me a bit.
Thanks!
I think that the OG Droid just doesn't have enough RAM to run ICS and above well. I used CM 9 for a while but flashed to MIUI recently, was blown away by speed
I think 4.0 and 4.1 on the droid are just proof of concepts, not really supposed to work well
