I'm just so effin fustrated cause this crap is getting old. ALL I WANT IS A PHONE THAT DOES WHAT IS SAYS! Stock was crap, so I rooted. Now the Roms I've tried are way above what stock was. I'm gratefull to all the Devs that make this all possible. I'm in no way upset with all their hard work. They've worked hard to improve the crappy stock ROMs. Here's a list of my probs...and this is common with ALL ROMS, stock, custom, bloated, debloated, odexed, deodexed, w/ voodoo, w/out voodoo. most of my probs are with the net.
4g freezes...I get constant hiccups when I need the net the most. I just want it to work all the time..jebus!
HotSpot freezes...this is caused by the problem above. Now I pay for hot spot and use the App, and since rooted I use WiFi tether. Still same prob. My PC loads pages fast and DL quickly, then all of a sudden...nothing. I have to cycle Airplane mode. This is just getting old already...just work like it does in the damn commercials!
SiriusXM....I love listening to it. I listen in the car, but when I have a 4G hicupp, music is gone...cycle airplane mode...or restart cause the App gets frozen as well. The app works by DL about 5 mins of airplay at a time...I get stops and freezes when it does that too.
Madden 12 not smooth...why have a game compatable with a phone that doesn't work properly? BS...
Same with Skype...never works like it should.
I just want my phone, apps, and internet to work when I need it. IS that too much to ask? I can never catch a break. Right now I'm on HumbleComb 4.0. So far this is the best ROM I've had. Still have same probs, but they happen fewer than with other ROMS...
I never tired Darkcharge cause it didn't have the toolbox. Now that it does I might try it. Should I? Or should I wait for the new 2.3.5 that P3 has been saying is the best Stock ROM beating out MotoBionic, and HTC Tbolt?
Anyone else have all these issues? Am I too picky? Just wanted to vent my frustration and see if other experience the same.
Check your PM.
sucks to hear you're having these problems but a lot of them are hardware/software related an not fixable as of yet, there is a huge issue with data connectivity on the Charge which seems to be the huge deal and the GB leaks are full of bugs (and not officially supported yet which is why there's problems with apps/games on GB)... the only thing I could suggest is Imnuts Infinity rom, I had maybe 1 little issue the whole time I ran it which I unfortunately can't say about the other roms
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
The best luck I've had is with the ep1w leak that I manually de-bloated, and zipalign using the ron toolbox. Also installed immuts repacked 2.3.5 voodoo kernal. Runs smooth. I can't remember my last force close or restart since I've been on this set up. Also using launcher pro plus

Thanks for the replys...I will try what has been suggested... still I hope when we finally get an official update(2.3.5)...and the ROMs that follow that..
i just traded my htc vivid for my bros samsung infuse. I loved the vivid but my bro wants it and infuse was mine in the first place. did some swapping around with my brothers. I just hate the stock rom and all the bloatwares. Can someone recomment a smooth stable rom for the infuse? also one that can tether.
Which Rom is a personal preferance.
I currently run F1 Innovation, Fast, Stable and smooth. Not sure about tethering.
F1 Innovation
Check out the super thread: Infuse Super Thread
The current miui does tethering very stable and fast. Also the battery drain seems to be fixed which is a huge plus.

Still i haven't installed it but I read that CyanogenMod 7 works flawlessly on the Infuse. I read you can use it to connect usb devices to your phone so i guess it can do pretty anything, tethering included.
The only thing that seems to work crappy is audio through bluetooth but i bet it's not a big problem : bluetooth is one of the most stupid and unsecure tecnologies ever invented.
You will find on this forum tons of informations about roms...just read it!
I have a preference for Infuse based ROM on my infuse.
they are listed in the dev section under superthread

Don't install a Samsung based rom, which is everything but CM7 or MIUI. Both CM7 and MIUI are AOSP based. MIUI is too much like iOS for my liking. I have been running CM7 on my infuse since I got it, and before that on my inspire, and before that on my captivate. CM7 is the only way to go.
For what it's worth, I'm running CM7, the newest nightly on 1/19. Very stable (some apps I had while running stock Froyo or Infused 2.2.3? would force close alot, not on CM7, but it's a very selective few apps I use for work), very smooth, very fast, overclockable to at least 1.4 gHz for most people. Some people do 1.6 gHz but it's not stable for my phone. You can undervolt it by some amounts for that extra battery savings, and it's constantly having features added to it, like T9 dialing that I discovered was included (much MUCH love for this small thing).
For all the added features, I regularly go through my phone and make sure I don't have apps that do things that are now part of the phone, so I keep the app list short and sweet. Having redundant features means that 2 things are trying to do the same thing, and I'd rather punch out my battery more and more without giving up some conveniences I had Dialer One on my phone, and it's not that great looking, but I had it just for the T9 dialing. Once I saw that CM7 had a T9 dialing feature, I uninstalled Dialer One. The music app, while not as heavy on the eye candy, made me get rid of Doubletwist and Airsync. Airsync never really worked great, for me at least.
CM7 doesn't have fully working bluetooth on the Infuse, some people have trouble with auto brightness (my personal preference is that I'd rather use the status bar slider to adjust brightness), and HDMI out doesn't work. It also has some extra niceties, such as theming, a DSP Manager app (that controls audio levels and equalizers), and is pretty much always being updated.
The drop down bar can be customized almost entirely, and because bluetooth doesn't work, not that I want it, I got rid of that icon. I replaced it with a screen timeout toggle. It has many more options than that.
One thing, and I don't think this is CM7 exclusive, is that sometimes my text messages won't send. I'm using GOSMS as my messaging app until the stock messaging app starts sending ALL of my texts. MMS relies on a data connection so I tend to pull the drop down and enable that when I want to send a picture or download one. Once it starts working the same way, I'm uninstalling GOSMS because it tends to be heavy and sometimes lags up noticeably.
I don't use bluetooth, and I don't think I've ever opened that HDMI dongle packaging, much less tried to use it. While it would be nice if they functioned, I get from day to day without even thinking about those. Your mileage may vary.
I'll throw my support behind CM7. I briefly tried ZEUS, but switched back after a couple days.

The only way to get a rom that has everything working like it should is to flash an infused based rom ...NOT an aosp rom..... cm7 is good if you don't need Bluetooth....as cm7 and miui use a different bt stack then Samsung ...so in my opinion that issue wont be fixed....and they have been known to have data issues....flash ANY of the infuse based Rome if you want complete functionality....period

Like others say if you need BT audio or HDMI stick with Samsung roms. I could care less about both, i have been bouncing back and forth between CM7 and MIUI for months now whenever there is a noteworthy update. Both are very quick and clean in my opinion and you can't go wrong with either one. I have tried most Samsung roms available but they are always short lived on my device...they always feel as if lacking something. Props to the devs for making them available though!!!
thank guys for the responses.. I am currently running the cm7.. looks great and smooth but i got a few issues maybe its the phone itself.
first: seems like my internet/wifi doesnt stay on at times or its not using wifi even tho its turned on.
second: the browser seems to be very slow and it force closes at times maybe it the site that i go to. ESPN scoreboards, i bet a lot so i check scores frequently and open a lot of pages.
third: yeah, battery does seem to go fast maybe because of the excessive use of the web.
BTW do you guys have to put in any apns?? I didnt'.
I don't think it's your phone. I'm still new at this, but as I understand it, you can make/flash tweaks and different modems that may help with the issues you encounter. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm on cm7 and I keep going back to it everytime I flash something new. It just works the best for me. As for data issues, you need to setup the apn fix listed in n0ctrnl's compiled cm7 thread. It's in the original post I believe. Also I flashed the latest modem (uckl2) found in the sticky of development section for modems

Go to wifi settings, hit menu button and go to advanced. Under wifi sleep policy choose never. Should fix the wifi connection issues your having.
I've tried many, but Zeus is the best one that's fully functional (BT and HDMI).
if i flash the miui rom, can i just wipe data and cache than flash the rom? or do i need to do something else?

Definately Zeus for now. It's snappy, everything works and theres even a few themes as well as an ICS launcher. All the AT&T bloat has been removed. I used to prefer stock, but Zeus made me convert. It's just more responsive than any other rom for the Infuse.
It's all a matter of personal preference. I've run about 12-15 different ROMs on my Infuse so far. I keep coming back to Sensation 1.1. I really like being able to edit my status bar.
I didn't care for the camera in CM7, but it is a very nice running ROM. Only thing I miss is not having an extended power menu.
Just play with a bunch of them until you find one you like.

Just curious about what everyone's opinions are about the roms out there based on kk4. I'm on cyanogenmod 7.2 Kang build right now, but after upgrading my wife's phone to official gingerbread I'm thinking about going back to a stock based rom. Seems really fast and smooth. Mainly I'm looking for a rom with the Tmobile theme engine and screenshot capabilities as I'd miss those if I left cyanogenmod. I'm still debating whether or not to go back to a stock based rom.

No lag except that damn gallery bug, but i get that on other versions and on stock rogers gingerbread aswell.

Well really just curious what everyone's using. Honestly there doesn't seem to be as many supported stock-based roms as their was on the earlier GB betas. I always used Cognition, but the most current version hasn't had an update since like July. I'm happy with Cyanogen for the most part, though it seems a bit buggier than stock. Really I just want a stock based rom with the theme engine and screenshot feature.

There are apps in the market that allow this. Shoot me is what i use...it also has a video feature, that will take a screen shot every so many seconds (depending on what you set it to) and then make it an mp4.
Oh and for theme support on a tw ROM, go to the market and get darky ota that should work. It injects the proper images and compiled xmls INTO the existing ROM, I've used it on mosaic, should work on all tw roms, I'd make a backup zip of the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk first though, that you can flash if it doesn't work. Or just reflash the ROM.

Yeah, but no theme engine. You have to flash them. Only the collectives have themes, and the others may have ICS themes.
I've thought about maybe just going to stock, removing the bloatware, installing corn kernal, installing a screenshot program, and then using UOT to get my themeing the way I want and calling it a day. That could work I suppose.

I'm using the KK4-based version of SauROM (note that there's an I9000-based version too, which I haven't tried). It's mostly pretty nice, except that after a full day or maybe day and a half of use, the browser tends to go loopy. It freezes up and becomes non-responsive, and appears to be hogging the CPU, as hitting the home button doesn't repsond either. If I just put the phone down and walk away for half an hour, it's usually fine again when I get back, but I tend to just reboot instead which also fixes it. I find this annoying, but it's just infrequent enough to be tolerable. I've been meaning to try a different ROM to see if it's universal or not.

Well I was on stock rogers 2.3.3. and I found it very laggy. no matter what launcher I used: go, adw, lp, even sbp shell. after a while lag would start up that would require a reboot or the phone would just shut off. Games would start out fine then start lagging. I then flashed cm7 and noticed an immediate improvement with minor overclocking but I would still get that lag, but not as bad as stock.
I then flashed teamhacks 4.0.3 ics rc14. I can never go back to GB. It is so intuitive, very smooth. The transitions are amazing. Even with no overclocking it is miles faster than stock or CM7. I was considering buying a new phone but now I will not be.
Since you are on cm7 now why don't you flash ics . its very simple to do since you already have cm7 installed. then you can decide

I thought about it, but I'm kind of waiting for stable CM9 to be complete first. I hear it has an issue with rebooting during calls. Trust me though I'm very eager to try out ICS. I ended up going with Illuminance, so far so good. I'm currently restoring all my apps ATM. I'll report back after I"m done.
This is off topic but why is Titanium backup soo sooo slow? Why do I have to sit there and say "install" and "done" on everything? I wish I could have all the time back in my life I spent restoring stoff with titanium backup

I too was reluctant to go from CM7 to CM9, but I eventually flashed it just to check it out, with no intention of staying. Long story short, I've been using CM9 for the past two weeks and it's definitely stable enough to be a daily driver, IMHO. I believe the phone call reboot was solved (I've never had it anyway), the only issue I have had was charge death, but that was solved by switching to the Glitch kernel. If you are waiting for it to be stable, your time may have come
As far as TB is concerned, the paid version lets you batch restore your apps. Well worth the $5 or however much it was.
So far so good on ilkuminance but I miss my screen shot feature, and all the apps in the market suck. Why would I want a camera icon hogging up my screen? Anyway, I may try ICS sooner than later

I ran all of the stock GB roms, was not super impressed with them, switched to the SauROM KK4 and Love it. Very smooth, seems less buggy then stock kk4. Have had a few issues of it being unresoponsive for a minute or so everyonce in a while, but it seems to be rare.
Try SauromKK4 or FastyKK4
Advantage of SauROM is that it is one click Heimdall, and really hard to mess up.
I then tried Fasty - also pretty good.
I got the impression that SauROM is smoother.
But that Corn 7.0.5 kernel is buggy - beware!
I tried a few of the KK4 roms, but eventually went back to CM7 and Kangs because the speed and responsiveness.
Now I have a Captivate Glide and am waiting for dev to ramp up for it. The Glide is what I really wanted when I got the original a year and a half ago, so I am happy.

Have you tried a factory reset? Mine was running very smoothly on the OTA. I also wiped my phone before and after the update.
Honestly I don't find it that much buttery. In some app it even seems slower. But I'm running custom ROM with some restored apps.
Maybe with a total fresh start it will work better...

Are you running OTA or some custom ROM? I tried a few different JB ROM's + kernels and wasn't very impressed. It was a very stuttery experience with lots of slowing downs. I guess i had too much junk laying around after so many flashes.
So i wiped everything, went back to stock image and got the OTA JB that way and rooted it. It's been running very smoothly ever since I wouldn't say it's a HUGE improvement over ICS..but maybe like 20% smoother. It's definitely not slower than ICS (i was running both stock ICS 4.04 and CM9 RC1 before. The only places i noticed the lack of buttery smoothness is when opening Google Now and the Camera app. The camera itself is fast and all, but the start up time is longer than i remember on ICS.
From my experience, it's actually "smoother" but not really faster than ICS.
Just went back to CM9 RC2 and I must say that it's much faster than any JB ROMs out there but just doesn't have buttery smooth animation.
I quite like JB. I don't use custom roms (I prefer stock with matr1x), and JB is nicer that ICS. Previously, recent apps was useless to me. It took forever to load. now it loads in an instant. also, I don't get ~10 seconds of lag after I install/uninstall an app, faster to boot, faster to finish loading apps after booting and the ui is much nicer. Ofc, it does stutter from time to time, but it's negligible, as far as I'm concerned. Project Butter is really doing stuff right.
Ofc, it's not as smooth and fast as on the gnex, but that's to be expected. The hw is not as good. But it does a pretty good job. I really wish google would upgrade the kernel and make it use all the ram available...don't see why they don't use it all...

mine seems good
I understand your feelings, but JB on nexus s is better than ICS, maybe not faster but definitely smoother. JB does give a nicer feel to the whole phone experience.
If you're on custom rom, try the stock one Afresh. I flashed stock Ics then got JB ota. I have also used Stevens JB and oodies. But after a fresh install, the stock one seems the best. However, I'm waiting for CM10 as CM9 is definitely better than stock ICS. I'm expecting the same from CM10.

I am asking myself the same question as the op. When I got my nexus s about a year ago it replaced a horribly slow nokia n86. The new UI felt fast. With time I got used to the speed of the UI and was generally quite happy with the performance.
Then came ICS and I began to wonder. Sometimes apps took a few secons to open a certain menu, sometimes the same menu was opened in half a second. Now with JB i get the impression that these inconsistent lags are appearing even more often. A typical usecase for me:
Listening to music via BT headset -> press power -> unlock screen -> select (standard) music app -> search for a specific song.
Sometimes this works as expected with <0.5s between steps, sometimes unlocking or opening the music app takes >3 seconds.
I should note that my system is completely stock and was never unlocked or rooted. I did the OTA to ICS and now to JB as intended by google. I never whiped any cache nor did I ever reinstall. When I have the time I may try that just to see if it makes any difference. For the moment though, I am left with the impression that 512mb ram and a single core CPU are not enough for a 2012 OS.
I'm finding a big improvement over ICS. I can't say I've found anything that doesn't work at least as good as ICS and a lot of stuff works better for me. The smoothness has really improved my 'user experience'.
That being said the app developers need to play catch up and get their stuff optimized for JB.
Can't wait to try the amazing custom JB ROMs that are going to be rolling out soon as well.

Same here, I notice quite a few stutters, and I believe more than I had on ICS.
Maybe I'll try to flash stock Google ICS, and then do the official Google OTA update. The current ROM I'm using is this one, but maybe that is really not 100% the same as the Google OTA version?
Also, I'm truly disappointed at the fact that I can't use my voice on Google Now without having the whole cell phone in English. If I don't have the menus in English, all it does is Google searches... Basically seems like anyone that doesn't speak English natively is alienated.
Hopefully chainfire updates chainfire 3d opengl driver to work with jb .
Made ICS significantly smooth should do same with JB
Currently using CM10 and it works perfectly. I have not seen any lag whatsoever so i am pretty happy with it. I used the stock OTA but it was a major battery drain. That's really all I have seen that is negative.

I am writing my experience with Jelly bean on inspire as I wanted to read one before I tried it but didnt find anything in detail. Here is how I did it and how it has been so far:
I used THIS to root my phone and THIS is the ROM that I used. Please note that you have to install google apps separately to get access to market. Download link is on the same page as ROM.
It went quite smooth and took me about half hour before I had the phone up and running again. I have been using it for last 2 days.
So far everything I have tried has been working:
TOUCH SCREEN: works perfect.
All HARD KEYS are working.
Camera works fine
Camcorder works okay, not great though (the recorded videos have few stutters).
ixMAT scanner dint work but BarCode Scanner did.
Wifi/network data works good.
GPS works fine, i traveled some 20 miles without any problems.
Bluetooth works fine.
Phone works good. Initially it sounded like "sounds was too loud for speaker". I was able to fix that by decreasing the volume just a bit.
Accelerometer and other sensors work good.
I haven't felt any difference in battery. It charged as quickly as it did before and battery life seems okay (although I have really been using it a lot).
Performance of jelly bean:
It is amazingly smooth and fast. Initially I missed the sense UI but once i got used to NOVA launcher, it feels great. I found a launcher called "LP Sense UI". It gives the same feeling as Sense 3.0 did ( I came from Stock 2.3.5 ROM with Sense 3.0) although it is not very customize-able. If you are Sense clock lover, you may like this widget called "Sense flip clock and weather". I like its visuals. Its music apps "Apollo" is quite nice.

Feel free to post if you have any comments/questions.

Update: Just discovered that by default, the system disables wifi when the phone goes to sleep which results in higher data usage. To avoid this, System settings>wifi> hit Menu and select Advanced> Keep wifi on during sleep> always. This may result in a little higher battery usage.
Update 2: Almost a week now and it is still running quite smooth despite the fact that I have tried A LOT of apps and a lot of widgets. Occasional hang ups have happened when an app becomes non responsive and I have to wait a couple of minute; happened to me twice in a week.
I used to use this rom but now I'm on miui, pretty much better when it comes to camera and battery life.
updated the OP and added a couple of screenshots..
Jellytime from RB es working great, no big issues.

I get horrible WiFi signal on my wife's inspire with all the JB Roms. I'm fairly certain its the Kang Bang kernel. Haven't tried any of the CM10 nightlies yet, but every other ROM, ICS or GB, the WiFi signal is excellent. And I know its not my router, an Asus RT-66U, I get signal on my skyrocket from that thing out in the street. Lordmod's kernel was the same way, but Existz TalonAce always proved better. Hopefully Existz will give us JB soon.

Jelly Time is a solid JB rom and I liked it when I used it for a few weeks.
Right now, I use Codefire as my daily rom.
Pacman is a great ROM as well, in the dhd development section.

The AOKP JB is really great. So far no issues
JB & ICS Roms
In the last 3 months I have used 8 different roms, on CM10 latest nightly. Seems good.
I have swappted the radio trying to find the best one. I only get about 40ft of wifi with one dot.
had the 12.69s and now back to 12.59 and it seems to pick up a little better with less battery drain.
Still playing around to find the best combo.
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to root my htc and wasn't sure which rom to use.
I currently have the most recent and up to date Ice cold sandwich ROM, and I was thinking of switching to jelly bean. Should I make the switch? I don't know much about these ROM's my friend does, and I've heard jelly bean is a great ROM.
I've been rockin cm10.1 and can never go to ICS or even 4.1.2 again runs so smooth

Was using Sabsa prime v 8.0 which had ICS 4.0.3 and now am running CyanogenMod 10.1 with jelly bean 4.2.1 and I am not considering going back. In fact I am looking at how smoothly this 10.1 runs on galaxy note 2 so when I upgrade I can get 4.1.2 Samsung touch whiz stuff off.

I tried a few of the various jellybean roms and while I really liked them I had a few probs, wifi signal being one, on another it would just freeze up on me, another had really bad sound artifacts when I would listen to music though headphones that I just couldn't live with.
I went to ICS aospx and am content, my battery life kills my wifes stock inspire 4g while running very smoothly...
I may give another one of the jellybean roms another try with a different kernel and see what happens... but right now i'm happy so we'll see if I change it.
Thanks for sharing your experience, based on this I am going to give this a shot.
which kernel and radio suits for jelly bean?
I'm running the JellyTime ROM as well, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's working. I was running CM7.2 previously, and while I liked it, there was a persistent GPS bug that was not being fixed. Navigator would lose GPS after 2 min and never recover it, although I learned that the workaround is to toggle GPS while Navigator is running. JellyTime originally had this bug as well, which apparently made it into CM10. But one of the JellyTime updates fixed it, and hopefully it was back-ported into CM10.
I've only been running JellyTime a few days, but all the important things seem to work well. One minor issue is that the backlight on the hardware keys goes out after a few seconds, rather than staying on when the screen is on or being turned on by the proximity sensor. One thing I miss was a widget in CM7.2 that pulled down notifications, which was a convenience in lieu of swiping.
Cm10.1 smooth
if you like JB, you will also like CM10.1, it's smooth so far for me, everything works or the apps I used all works. I will update, if I find any issues.
