[Q] What ROM will make my Charge work like I need!? - Verizon Droid Charge

I'm just so effin fustrated cause this crap is getting old. ALL I WANT IS A PHONE THAT DOES WHAT IS SAYS! Stock was crap, so I rooted. Now the Roms I've tried are way above what stock was. I'm gratefull to all the Devs that make this all possible. I'm in no way upset with all their hard work. They've worked hard to improve the crappy stock ROMs. Here's a list of my probs...and this is common with ALL ROMS, stock, custom, bloated, debloated, odexed, deodexed, w/ voodoo, w/out voodoo. most of my probs are with the net.
4g freezes...I get constant hiccups when I need the net the most. I just want it to work all the time..jebus!
HotSpot freezes...this is caused by the problem above. Now I pay for hot spot and use the App, and since rooted I use WiFi tether. Still same prob. My PC loads pages fast and DL quickly, then all of a sudden...nothing. I have to cycle Airplane mode. This is just getting old already...just work like it does in the damn commercials!
SiriusXM....I love listening to it. I listen in the car, but when I have a 4G hicupp, music is gone...cycle airplane mode...or restart cause the App gets frozen as well. The app works by DL about 5 mins of airplay at a time...I get stops and freezes when it does that too.
Madden 12 not smooth...why have a game compatable with a phone that doesn't work properly? BS...
Same with Skype...never works like it should.
I just want my phone, apps, and internet to work when I need it. IS that too much to ask? I can never catch a break. Right now I'm on HumbleComb 4.0. So far this is the best ROM I've had. Still have same probs, but they happen fewer than with other ROMS...
I never tired Darkcharge cause it didn't have the toolbox. Now that it does I might try it. Should I? Or should I wait for the new 2.3.5 that P3 has been saying is the best Stock ROM beating out MotoBionic, and HTC Tbolt?
Anyone else have all these issues? Am I too picky? Just wanted to vent my frustration and see if other experience the same.

Check your PM.

sucks to hear you're having these problems but a lot of them are hardware/software related an not fixable as of yet, there is a huge issue with data connectivity on the Charge which seems to be the huge deal and the GB leaks are full of bugs (and not officially supported yet which is why there's problems with apps/games on GB)... the only thing I could suggest is Imnuts Infinity rom, I had maybe 1 little issue the whole time I ran it which I unfortunately can't say about the other roms
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge

The best luck I've had is with the ep1w leak that I manually de-bloated, and zipalign using the ron toolbox. Also installed immuts repacked 2.3.5 voodoo kernal. Runs smooth. I can't remember my last force close or restart since I've been on this set up. Also using launcher pro plus

Thanks for the replys...I will try what has been suggested... still I hope when we finally get an official update(2.3.5)...and the ROMs that follow that..

Trying to decide which ROM to go with, hoping it fixes my issues

Ok, I was an early adopter of this phone bought it the day it came out July 18th. There are a great many things that disappoint me about this phone, main thing being lack of Froyo at the moment. I'm tired of waiting for samsung, I have little faith it will truely resolve my issues which are the following
In order to use wifi I must reboot my phone, this only occurred after the official JH7 was loaded on it through the over the air update that ATT did.
Constantly having lag all the time, and having apps running that I never ever use and dont want such as ATT Navigator, ATT Family Map, etc. I was able to root the phone and get rid of those but it really hasnt helped.
My stereo bluetooth headphones must be paired EVERY single time I want to use them, its not the headphones because they work perfectly with 4 other devices.
Of course the GPS, it sucks for everyone, any of these or all fix that? Samsung seems unwilling.
So maybe I'm wishing too much but I've watched almost every youtube review of the ROMs that are out there and theres a few details that stick out for things that I want in a rom so I'll detail them here and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction as to which one has the best combo.
1. froyo based, I need 2.2 for certain apps
2. I've heard theres different modems that can affect HSPA, I want fastest download and upload.
3. No wild color schemes, I dont like orange or green. I quite like the look of the phone I think samsung did a great job with the touchwiz and I know theres alot of you out there that perfer the "vanilla" versions of Android. I'm not one of those people. I really loved the look of the cognition rom and some of the things it had visually.
4. Overclocking would be nice but not at the expense of battery life, I'm right in the 24-30 hour range just as most are on here, better would be great if possible.
Go to romkitchen.org and build your own there. There are many threads about the advantages of one modem over another, and you can pick pretty much everything yourself. Then search for CLShortfuse's GPS fix and you'll be set.
Don't worry, its extremely easy

24-30 hours of what kind of use? There are a couple roms out there with stock appearance
Cognition
Perception
Precision
Andromeda
Docs
30 hours, you have to consider what you are asking. I want faster dl, no lag, better gps, but I don't want to eat any more battery. It is possible to get 30hrs of light to moderate use. Heavy use will yield 12-18
Andromeda v1.2 is a rom that is pretty vanilla....simple and has the things your looking for. You have to try roms that you think will be what you want.

+2 for Andromeda 1.2.
You can fix all of these if you root the phone. The best ROM out there is the Rom Kitchen (aka "Doc's ROMs") over at romkitchen.org. You can "cook up" your own ROMs using the specifications you want. This is what is so great about the ROM kitchen, especially when compared to the other ROMs like Cognition: you can pick what you want, and don't have to take whatever it was that someone else decided was best. For example, if you want the benefits of rooting but want to keep touchwiz, the ROM kitchen has an option for that. It also lets you pick things like the theme, boot animation, apps, etc. There are 5 captivate modems, and you might just have to experiment to see which one is best. I did this, and it was well worth it. The one that worked best for me was the XXJPP modem. Just load a seperate ROM with each of the different modems, flash each, and download a few things to see which is faster. Also check and see how well the GPS works on each.
Rooting will fix the lag, although one of the ROM kitchen kernels (Glitterball's Voodoo) will improve it even further. There is something called "Project Voodoo" which is a community of developers who build a kernel tweak called Voodoo which completely fixes the remaining lag issue (this is caused by the inefficient way the captivate organizes its folders), and also improves a few other features such as resolution.
You should go try out my ROM its small and fast and stable. I'm getting great battery life and DL/UL speeds. Give it a shot.
Here.
Well I decided to go with the serendipity 5.9, I love the speed, my upload and download speeds almost doubled, bluetooth and wifi finally work like they are supposed to!!
I do have a few complaints though, like the keyboard for texting, I loved the samsung one, I hate swipe any way i can get the stock one back on there?

However, if you're still interested in the Samsung keyboard, it's in here:

I just found that, wow, short of having a flash on the camera and video chat this phone is now everything I could have ever dreamed of
Holy crap what a difference. Everything actually works and is super fast. I would be on cloud nine right now except for the fact I'm probably soon getting the Atrix, this will def hold me over till then.
Im using Precision 3.5 with the monochrome 3.5 theme. Its running the latest suckerpunch kernel. For sure my favorite combo I've tried so far. Its really amazing, not to mention dev'd by ryude, who is one of the best!

Samsung Captivate running Serendipity 5.12 Paragon6 1200-100hz (uv'd and slightly oc'd) and I9000XXJVE modem. Almost have it edited/themed up how I want it. Need to get started on custom icons and I think I want to try my hand at a completely custom framework. Anyway, I was perfectly happy with 'dipity out of the box, but since I've flashed Paragon this phone is AMAZING. It's quite fast and the battery seems to last forever. Just now recharging for the first cycle after having to reflash my rom w/o a full battery, so after today I'll know for sure how long the battery last, but initially it seems like I'll get a day or so with my daughter constantly playing video's and games all day.
I have tried the team phoenix roms. I'm currently running phoenix 7.0 and am happy so far.

I change roms almost daily and this one will be here for a while, I am happy with everything this combo has to offer and speed and battery life is excellent.

After using about 20 different roms I discovered that that I like it the way it came. Although, I did root it to use any rooted only apps, lol.

Have you tried a Sense cleaned up (bloatware) ROM? In any case, you might want to use Titanium to at least freeze some of the bloatware apps. You should still be able to get the OTA 2.3 update if/when HTC/TMo finally gets around to it.
I am not sure if being rooted will prevent that.
root on stock ROM shouldnt prevent it. although you will probably lose root. good idea to wait to update and see what the devs say about any new update. losing root to a new update isnt cool because you never know how long it will take for some one to figure out how to root again.
I am with you. I have not tried nor want to try any roms. I really like the default rom as is. I came from the HD2 where I flashed so many different roms, I ended up staying with a version of the mytouch 4g. Then I went and bought a real mytouch 4g and love it. I also rooted to get rid of the crappy apps. No problem with keeping it as is. People will always try and talk you into flashing a custom, but to be honest this is the first time I never have had any bugs or issues that I had to live with until the "next update".
same here...no matter how many different ROMS I flash, I always end up going back to the stock MySense. I did have a great experience with Orange Sense tho, pure sense and blazing fast thanks to Faux
Totally with you guys, after flashing several roms, trying to get them to work properly, then ending up too frustrated to continue, went right back to stock rom. rooted and removed bloatware. now happy as can be.
Same deal here. I came from the HD2 running android as well with the MT4G build, then I just bought the real deal. Mainly for the wifi calling and the front camera for the video calling. I gave the HD2 to my daughter and for some reason just last week the touch screen stopped working,, for windows and android. So there sending me a replacement, it should be here sometime this week. Does any of you know if I can use HP3 to flash roms and android builds? cuz I did use HD2 and Now I can't find it but I did find HD3. I waS Just wondering if they did the same thing. but I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who digs the stock sense. I thought I was the only one.. LOL.. although now that CM7 is officially out I may give it a look... but I'm sure as always i'll end up back with stock.. and hopefully we'll get the honeycomb upgrade or the 2.3 sooner or later..
I'm also happy with the Stock Sense Rom, so happy in fact that I haven't rooted yet lol. My last phone was a mytouch 3g, which I rooted a few months into owning it, because with that phone there were so many glitches and so much lag that you had to root it to get it to work decently. And I wound up flashing a bunch of sense roms lol. But with this phone, it pretty much works and does everything I need it to out of the box.
With that said, do you guys really think it's still worth it to root for the non-rom-flashing benefits? i.e. setcpu and removal of bloatware? For my needs, I don't really feel like I need to overclock the phone, but I like the idea of underclocking to save battery...also, while the bloatware apps are annoying, it's not like they have taken away any functionality of the phone...I know everyone here's MO is "ROOT ASAP" but it seems like it's a little more complicated than it was for the MT3G, and while I'm not an idiot, I'm not really a tech-whiz either lol. Just not sure if it's worth the trouble and risk if I don't want/need to flash different roms.
I ran stock for a month and used ADW Launcher EX (normal version does this also) in order to hide the bloatware from the app drawer. This phone has so much power that for me it was out of sight out of mind with bloatware. I would assume LPP and other home replacement apps would have similar functions.
I flashed around a bit after rooting but always came back to stock, but then I switched to Orange Glacier by Faux123. It's stock, just quicker and debloated with some system apps moved in case you want to remove them also. IMO it's a bit better, but I still haven't decided how life changing it is His kernels def are.

I waited around 10 days before I rooted my phone just to get a nice feel of how things ran. yes I would definitely root if I were you. if you dont want to uninstall the bloatware, you can just freeze them with titanium. setcpu with a custom kernel underclocking with screen off will improve battery life as well(only OC to play games or view videos)

The benefits of going back to Stock...

So I was and always have been an admitted flashaholic.. for the eye candy, the customization, the things you can't do on stock (non-root) such as tethering and such. I tried GB early on, too buggy, was happy with Froyo. More recently I flashed Synergy and am pretty happy but really beginning to question whether or not going back to stock is just the best way to go. The Netflix and Skype are cool but honestly don't use 'em all that often. Assuming I could still tether on stock and rooted, I just may do that.
I can't be alone here. I imagine many of you have gone back for battery life, less bugginess, etc. What are your thoughts, am I alone in this? If I'm not, why did you revert and what benefits do you see by doing so?
Not trying to sound like a smart ass...don't take it that way.
But I'd love to hear of someone going back to stock for better battery life.
That's one of the top reasons to root and ROM your phone. Fat and services not needed go bye bye...
Couldn't you still swap kernel tho on a stock rom? That was just an example and even if you were being a smartass it wouldn't bother me any. Here to learn man, here to learn. I have not experimented with my TB like I did my old WinMo phones, still a bit intimidated honestly.
Don't be intimidated. They're simple.
Keep a good backup plan.
You can't change ROMs or Kernals that I know of without root access.

Sounds like he is staying rooted just using rooted stock build, so he can still tether
I use the stock rooted froyo rom quit a bit still. Aosp is still work in progress although has come a long way and there hasnt really been a Verizon GB leak for the TB that is even close to a release build quality, Chingys is closest currently but only offered modded so far.

Try DroidTh3ory's AOSP build.
Damn near flawless.
He mentioned stock build non-root...so I thought that's where he was going...
My front camera does not work and the back camera stops working after a few uses. I then need to restart.
My question is, are there any GB Sense/AOSP roms that work well with the front and/or back camera?
Had no issue with Synergy, BAMF or DroidTh3ory ROMs when it comes to camera(s).
Yeah, would definitely stay rooted for tether but otherwise, the stock software is like 100% flawless, no glitches or hang ups whatsoever. If I'm not having wierd radio issues with most the GB roms, my MMS isn't the same, or overall the phone just feels more sluggish.
My battery life was just horrible with the stock. Once CM7 was stable enough to run as my daily driver I went to it. No issues at all and it runs just as smooth as the stock.
Back to Stock
My first TB was rooted and flashed with a variety of Froyo roms. I was constantly tweaking it and fiddling with it. But I dropped and busted it.
My replacement unit (from Geek Squad) arrived but I didn't have the spare time to root and flash. Then MR2 came.
Now, other than a modest improvement to my battery life, rooting and flashing really holds no benefit to me. I use EasyTether for tethering; it works just fine for me. Everything else . . . Just works.
Maybe after GB I might root . . . But only if I can gain some new functionality.

Sadly what works for some doesn't for others and some only notice it due to how they use their phone. Like on AOSP roms I have issues with missing calls and low in-call volume and network location. I haven't had as many issues on GB releases other than some messed up time stamps on SMS and small annoyances like that. I can get a full day on current froyo build and everything works.
I say run what works best for you that is why we are all rooted, so we have a choice just as we would on our computers or whatever.

Running rooted MR2 debloated. Everything just works. My gut feeling tells me we're in the "salad days" of the Thunderbolt right now. The MR2 release is that good.
Gingerbread will come soon and bring with it a host of problems just like it has when it was released on every other phone. I'm only rooted now so that I can stick with my current setup and ride out the GB release and subsequent fixes until it reaches a similar state of maturity.
MR2 has made the 'bolt a great phone. Yes, battery life could be better but the only fix there is a bigger battery (like the 1900mAh batt in the upcoming Bionic).
even if you go back to stock at least leave it rooted so that way you can always go back to flashing if you wanted. once you get the newest OTA you're locked in to the stock ROM till it get cracked.(if it hasn't already I'm rooted so I didn't pay too much attention to that)
I really cant think of a reason to go back to stock.
Ive been following droidtheory's roms, and he is a genius.
If u can live without sense, his latest aosp build is just amazing. No probelms whatsoever on my end (cam/skype/tether/sms/vids/gps/calls)
And battery life ia exceptional.
Honestly, imo, stock has got absolutely nothing on DT.

Every one of the ROMs seems to have something wrong with it and I got tired of dealing with it.
Bamf was just overloaded and seemed sluggish, text messages came in with the wrong timestamp.
CM7 was chewing up the battery in standby. It gets old fast, and having to set up all those accounts all the time is a nuisance.
I'm with ya bro, running stock debloated and have zero issues and Im getting great battery life.

Is Your Infuse Moody?

Does your Infuse have good days and then bad days? It seems like some days, it runs like a champ. Then other days, it locks up, I need multiple reboots/battery pulls just to get it operational.
I've not used a task killer with the Infuse but often tempted to because it is so buggy. I don't even use the stock browser anymore beecause often force reboots after locking up.
I am on my second one and my wife's acts like this too. I've not gone the rooting/ROM route yet. May even exchange it one more time...

but i would Probably say the MOST stable and Consistant Rom without to many bugs and errors will be the Infused one with 1.0 infusion kernel.
again though everyone has to find there own Stable combo, the things i do on my phone may work better with a certain Rom then others....you may have to mess with your Modem/APN settings to find a Stable network lock.
if your not willing to adjust/flash these to FIND somethings stable....then Stock is pretty damn stable...lol
i dont have an issue flashing or tweaking my phone im just looking for a custom rom to start with.... im actually looking for a miui to install with good themes and stuff

My phone runs beautifully. My pregnant wife on the other hand...
can some give me the link to 9.30 build of Miui ? any help with the install would be appreciated... thanks... you can PM me so i wont take up space on the forum threads...
very rarely it has it's bad days, lol when the iPhone 4S came out my boss wanted to go pick one up for himself so as we were trying to find the Verizon store we needed to load up navigation to find it. He goes first w/ his Motorola Droid X2 to load up google maps and then his sh*t froze and then force rebooted his phone. So we were like wtf? I load up google maps on my phone, all is well until I found the Verizon retail store and hit "navigate" to and then BAM it force reboots my phone. HOLY SH*T we never laughed so hard in our lives. The chances of two droids force rebooting over the same thing lmao after the reboot it was fine but man we couldn't stop laughing. My boss goes, no wonder I'm getting an iPhone... this sh*t better not happen lol. Few minutes before I was telling him how great Android is and how you can customize it however he wishes, play with roms, yatta yatta yatta and man it was just too funny.
Ugh I guess you had to be there, would have been the perfect commercial for Apple seeing both our droids fail!
Other then that it's very rare my phone gets moody.
Not really. Mine only gets moody when i jack with it. So far I'm running:
Infused 2.2.3
Infusion GB CoreA
TransFuzion 2.1
Adrenaline Shot XIX
Just flashed UCKI4
Things are running good so far.
My infuse has a bad day as described in the OP every day since I flashed the first custom ROM. Infused with infusion seemed to be most stable but even then I got a ton of crashes, force quits, lockups, etc. I wipe everything every time and have tried gtg stock before flashing ROMs and the issues persist. Just loaded MIUI 10.21 and so far so good but it will probably start acting up soon.

recommend a rom for me

i just traded my htc vivid for my bros samsung infuse. I loved the vivid but my bro wants it and infuse was mine in the first place. did some swapping around with my brothers. I just hate the stock rom and all the bloatwares. Can someone recomment a smooth stable rom for the infuse? also one that can tether.
Which Rom is a personal preferance.
I currently run F1 Innovation, Fast, Stable and smooth. Not sure about tethering.
F1 Innovation
Check out the super thread: Infuse Super Thread
The current miui does tethering very stable and fast. Also the battery drain seems to be fixed which is a huge plus.

Still i haven't installed it but I read that CyanogenMod 7 works flawlessly on the Infuse. I read you can use it to connect usb devices to your phone so i guess it can do pretty anything, tethering included.
The only thing that seems to work crappy is audio through bluetooth but i bet it's not a big problem : bluetooth is one of the most stupid and unsecure tecnologies ever invented.
You will find on this forum tons of informations about roms...just read it!
I have a preference for Infuse based ROM on my infuse.
they are listed in the dev section under superthread

Don't install a Samsung based rom, which is everything but CM7 or MIUI. Both CM7 and MIUI are AOSP based. MIUI is too much like iOS for my liking. I have been running CM7 on my infuse since I got it, and before that on my inspire, and before that on my captivate. CM7 is the only way to go.
For what it's worth, I'm running CM7, the newest nightly on 1/19. Very stable (some apps I had while running stock Froyo or Infused 2.2.3? would force close alot, not on CM7, but it's a very selective few apps I use for work), very smooth, very fast, overclockable to at least 1.4 gHz for most people. Some people do 1.6 gHz but it's not stable for my phone. You can undervolt it by some amounts for that extra battery savings, and it's constantly having features added to it, like T9 dialing that I discovered was included (much MUCH love for this small thing).
For all the added features, I regularly go through my phone and make sure I don't have apps that do things that are now part of the phone, so I keep the app list short and sweet. Having redundant features means that 2 things are trying to do the same thing, and I'd rather punch out my battery more and more without giving up some conveniences I had Dialer One on my phone, and it's not that great looking, but I had it just for the T9 dialing. Once I saw that CM7 had a T9 dialing feature, I uninstalled Dialer One. The music app, while not as heavy on the eye candy, made me get rid of Doubletwist and Airsync. Airsync never really worked great, for me at least.
CM7 doesn't have fully working bluetooth on the Infuse, some people have trouble with auto brightness (my personal preference is that I'd rather use the status bar slider to adjust brightness), and HDMI out doesn't work. It also has some extra niceties, such as theming, a DSP Manager app (that controls audio levels and equalizers), and is pretty much always being updated.
The drop down bar can be customized almost entirely, and because bluetooth doesn't work, not that I want it, I got rid of that icon. I replaced it with a screen timeout toggle. It has many more options than that.
One thing, and I don't think this is CM7 exclusive, is that sometimes my text messages won't send. I'm using GOSMS as my messaging app until the stock messaging app starts sending ALL of my texts. MMS relies on a data connection so I tend to pull the drop down and enable that when I want to send a picture or download one. Once it starts working the same way, I'm uninstalling GOSMS because it tends to be heavy and sometimes lags up noticeably.
I don't use bluetooth, and I don't think I've ever opened that HDMI dongle packaging, much less tried to use it. While it would be nice if they functioned, I get from day to day without even thinking about those. Your mileage may vary.
I'll throw my support behind CM7. I briefly tried ZEUS, but switched back after a couple days.

The only way to get a rom that has everything working like it should is to flash an infused based rom ...NOT an aosp rom..... cm7 is good if you don't need Bluetooth....as cm7 and miui use a different bt stack then Samsung ...so in my opinion that issue wont be fixed....and they have been known to have data issues....flash ANY of the infuse based Rome if you want complete functionality....period

Like others say if you need BT audio or HDMI stick with Samsung roms. I could care less about both, i have been bouncing back and forth between CM7 and MIUI for months now whenever there is a noteworthy update. Both are very quick and clean in my opinion and you can't go wrong with either one. I have tried most Samsung roms available but they are always short lived on my device...they always feel as if lacking something. Props to the devs for making them available though!!!
thank guys for the responses.. I am currently running the cm7.. looks great and smooth but i got a few issues maybe its the phone itself.
first: seems like my internet/wifi doesnt stay on at times or its not using wifi even tho its turned on.
second: the browser seems to be very slow and it force closes at times maybe it the site that i go to. ESPN scoreboards, i bet a lot so i check scores frequently and open a lot of pages.
third: yeah, battery does seem to go fast maybe because of the excessive use of the web.
BTW do you guys have to put in any apns?? I didnt'.
I don't think it's your phone. I'm still new at this, but as I understand it, you can make/flash tweaks and different modems that may help with the issues you encounter. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm on cm7 and I keep going back to it everytime I flash something new. It just works the best for me. As for data issues, you need to setup the apn fix listed in n0ctrnl's compiled cm7 thread. It's in the original post I believe. Also I flashed the latest modem (uckl2) found in the sticky of development section for modems

Go to wifi settings, hit menu button and go to advanced. Under wifi sleep policy choose never. Should fix the wifi connection issues your having.
I've tried many, but Zeus is the best one that's fully functional (BT and HDMI).
if i flash the miui rom, can i just wipe data and cache than flash the rom? or do i need to do something else?
currently on cm7...
Check out Z*E*U*S ROM.

Definately Zeus for now. It's snappy, everything works and theres even a few themes as well as an ICS launcher. All the AT&T bloat has been removed. I used to prefer stock, but Zeus made me convert. It's just more responsive than any other rom for the Infuse.
It's all a matter of personal preference. I've run about 12-15 different ROMs on my Infuse so far. I keep coming back to Sensation 1.1. I really like being able to edit my status bar.
I didn't care for the camera in CM7, but it is a very nice running ROM. Only thing I miss is not having an extended power menu.
Just play with a bunch of them until you find one you like.
