[Q] Camera / Video no smooth preview / video recording - HTC Desire S

Hello,
my girlfriend got her new HTC Desire S 2 weeks ago. I have one since it is available in our country. I rooted it and put the same ROM (the newest Galnet from MIUI) on both devices.
The first thing we noticed was the different color saturation of the devices, which is not that big deal (perhaps someone has a solution?).
But a really annoying thing is that on my girlfriends phone the camera app is not able to preview everything like it should. It only updates the screen if some user interaction is done. Touching the screen, ... . If i open the camera app the same thing happens, it even records only 1pic (or less) each second.
I restored the backup but with the original ROM everything is working. Reflashing of MIUI or using another version doesn't solve that problem.
I hope someone has a good hint or a solution for that problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hardware acceleration?!
We also found out that she is not able to watch videos. They look like a slideshow. 1 image a second or less....
It seems that there is a problem with the hardware acceleration?
I did a full wipe (i even formated system / data / cache) so nothing from an old rom can cause this problem.
Are there different chips build into our HTC Desire S. or what can cause these problems?
I hope someone can answer these questions. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mike

I have same problem discussed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397883
there is no solution for it now ((

Did you had the same problem before you switched the ROM?
I had the problem with slow SD card. Video play was quite smooth but sometimes it was not synced with audio. When I changed SD card to class 10 from class 2 its muuuuch better.

I am pretty sure it's not the sd because youtube videos are lagging too, and they are cached in the RAM (i think). Camera and video preview are also lagging and the preview itself has nothing todo with the sd card too.
But thanks

Camera Software

Hey guys. Got a question. I ran a patch on my phone to use SHDC card and it worked great. I now have an 8 GB micro card in my phone. (O2 XDA Stealth) Problem is, the other day I went to use the win mo camera and it won't recognize the micro card. Every other software works just fine. I never liked the built in cam anyways. Is there any third part cam software? That takes pictures and videos? My current solution has been to use the onboard memory.
Try CoolCamera from www.ateksoft.com
I have found that making a network folder visible, with software such a resco explorer, means that the camera will no longer save to the storage card.
Thank You so much seether. I will be trying the software on the site. I am at the office right now but it looks like that might just be exactly like what I was looking for. Again, thank you very much.
update: it did not work. I got a green screen.

[Q] Optimus 3D - HACKY Music quality.

Hey guys!
I have been a long time lurker in these threads and i just bought an Optimus3d very cheaply.
I love the phone and its sound quality is excellent for my taste.
It is even better than Iphone.
But one thing that is very very annoying is that ever 5-10 minutes, the music hacks a bit. Suddenly when im listening to a song, the phone just goes back 1 second or half a second in a very noticeable sound.
It really gets in my nerves and i just wonder if any of you guys knows more and want to help me with this ?
I have been searching in this forum for a long time without finding a thread about this.
Thanks in advance for any advise

It's your memory card it's too slow you need at least a class 6 for good music without hacking...
I have the same problem. I tried with all kind of memory card. Also a class 10 Samsung micro sd.
I use Power Amp as default player and I have problem with all my musics. I find out that the problem could be caused by a miss-management of ram or something else. For example, sometimes, when I simply unlock my phone, the music has problem. A sort of rattle.
I'm using Thiaiz clean version 0.2, but the problems persist on every rom..!
Please help me. I use my phone as my personal mp3 player.

Yes, i feel the same. And im sure its not the Sd card since i use the internat storage of LG phone.
So i have no Sd card for starters.
----
I also think that it is a ram issue. But i have no ide how or why.
Im one of those guys who also uses the phone as an mp3 player and so far i had iphone 4 and samsung wave (which is the best so far) .....But this LG is good in every aspect besides this little rattely hacky music playback.
I have used
poweramp
original music player
And the "twist" player.
All with no luck..
Hope for someone who is very knowledgeable ;(
I am not sure since I dont listen to music but have you tryed to disable the swap file? Maybe thats the cause of your problems. Look to another thread for the how to.

Try this https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zZGluY3JlYXNlLml0Il0. and set it to 1024 or 2048.
It should do the trick.
What kind of music files are you playing?
I Use average 2-3MB/min mp3s and this doesnt seem to ever happen to me [i play it on the internal storage] on stock music player.

Ok, guys, I've investigated this issue for a long time as I listen music 2 hours every day (I work out of my city and I use public transport to go to job) and this crap annoyed me as hell.
First, some facts, second solutions and workarounds:
FACTS:
1. This problem IS NOT EXCLUSIVE of Optimus 3d. Google search "music skips android" and you'll see other Android devices having the same issue.
2. The music micro-skips happen *specially* from externalSD. Music played from internalSD also has skipping but much, much less often.
3. Swapping has nothing to do about it. Tested.
4. Formatting the SDCard has nothing to do about it. Tested.
I have two SD card, one Samsung class 10 and other Sandisk class 4 (which in fact is faster than Samsung even being of *theorical* inferior class!!!), different manufacturers, I formatted both extensively in PC and in Optimus, the problem persisted in both.
5. SDCard speed has *ABSOLUTELY* nothing to do about this. Let's see (credits to Beriaru for this explanation):
-a MP3 with ridiculous high quality is encoded at 320Kbps, kiloBITS!!!!
-a SD Card of only class 2 means it writes data at 2MBps MegaBYTES!!! = 16Mbps = 16.384Kbps so it should play music with *ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AT ALL* (and as I said, this is the writing speed, reading is even faster!!!!).
And finally as I said, I have two SD card, one class 10 (10MBps) and the problem HAPPENED THE SAME IN BOTH... CLEAR ENOUGH?
6. In my case, glitches happened ~4-5 times for each song, not continuous, but very noticeable and very annoying.
SOLUTIONS AND WORKAROUNDS:
a. Put the music at internalSD (yeah, if you are like me and u have gigas of mp3 this is a crappy solution, I know),
b. Use PowerAMP as player with these settings (credits to Disruptor for this tip):
menu/More/settings/Audio Engine/Advanced Tweaks ->
-Thread Priority to +1 (or higher),
-Audio Buffer Size to 750 ms
c. THIS IS MY SOLUTION: Change SD Cache Size parameter to 128Kb *AND REBOOT* (you can use System Tuner, ROM Toolbox, or SD Speed Increase programs to change the value). If that value don't work for you, TRY OTHER VALUES *AND REBOOT* -and post here which one works for you to benefit the community. For me, 128kb WORKS LIKE A CHARM!
NONE OF THESE SOLUTIONS ARE PERFECT, YOU WILL NOTICE STILL SOME GLITCH HERE AND THERE, BUT THE IMPROVEMENT IS EVIDENT AND THEY BECOME EXCEPTIONS, INSTEAD OF BEING THE RULE.
Hope this helps...
awesome, thanks for help.
Ill try these steps and see what i come up with.
But first thing first, my PC wont even recognize my phone anymore. I am getting pretty pissed off now.

Please, better create a new thread for that problem: you'll have the benefit of more visibility about that concrete issue; let this one just for music problems (an organized forum is better for everybody). Thanx!
you are right! thank you.
thanks mrbandwidth. greatly appreciated!
Ok, the problem is partially solved, but as you said there are still some short rattles.
My question is: is there any possibilty that with an update this problem can be adjusted?
Thank you.

Well, as I said this problem seems to happen in other Android devices too, so I suspect we have to blame Android 2.x and its stock music player for this. Maybe it will be solved in Android 4.0 ICS but who knows... And if LG hasn't been capable till now of solving the ghost calls problem I don't think they even care about this.
Anyway the improvement factor with the fixes for me is:
-before: 4-5 glitches on each 5min song -> 60 glitches / hour -> unacceptable!
-now: 2-3 glitches / hour -> acceptable
so, it's a x20 improvement factor. Nice!

Review and opinion ICs 4.0.4 Official

Hello to everyone, i need some help with my O3D. I hace it with GB and I am not sure to update it to ICS. I have search into your great fórum and I have found people with some problems like HDMI output refer to sound output, also some bugs with the camera in 3d, also some bugs about brithgness.
I will like to put only Officla ICs on my O3d, but I like people to tell me how phone goes, I mean if it has a lot of lags or goes slow, about gamming, about memory ram usage, also about if pictures are saved to external Sd o internal Sd, and many other stuff about it.
I jave search for a review but I did not have found any complete review about phone with official ICS.
Also I will like to now how much memory is left after the update, phone memory.
I have seen there are many roms for this mobile but I only want to put the oficial one.
Thanks very much
No one has stock ics installed in their p920?
I've tried many roms and kernels (around 30, maybe more) but now I have stock ICS I can say its the most stable and best daily driver you could ever get.
With all roms and kernels I've experienced lag after some use, but not with the original ICS.
Batterylife isn't great, but if you want a phone who is able to do anything it should do, whenever you want it to do its the best rom you could get.
Thanks for reply. And what about internal storage? How much is left?
And also I will like to now about ram since now in GB i always have 76 left in standby.
I have also read some issues about pictures in 3d something about the size and about the settins.
My other phone was an xperia neo v and I got this one because the other was always saying low internal memiry left.
thanks
take my advice if you are gonna flash ics to your phone then flash the STOCK version DON'T flash any custom roms even if it is based on stock one
about ram i think ram on official ics better than gb i have about 120-150 free ram in standby and you have the option to don't allow background processes to keep running (you can find it in the developer options inside system settings) that would save you more ram and more battery life
the phone storage at ics is about 980 mb
about 3D camera it works fine no problem at all with it the only problem is with the 3D converter not only for games but also with some videos it doesn't convert the 2D videos to 3D ones
games perform well with no lag with ics but keep in mind that battery consumption much more in ICS than in GB
Thanks for the answear. can you also tell about quality of the pictures in 2d? Are they the same as in GB o better?
Also are pictures saved in internal sd in the 8 gigas or in the external sd?
Thanks very much
well
i am not a big photographer i don't use camera too much but i think 2D pictures not bad you can ask someone else who like to capture many pictures
the captures images can be saved at the external SD not the 8 gb storage normally
you can switch storage from external SD to 8gb in the camera settings
if you needed any help in flashing you can pm me i like to help people

3D Converter is meant for games that are programmed in Open GL. See here for a list of just a few games that work well with it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17845028
Drastic00, that's correct. Reason: OpenGL is mainly a video compute programming so the GPU driver can mirror two angles for two image frames (for ceramic plate angles in 3D mode), so what you get is stereoscopic 3D image. Not all games get along with Real3D chainlinking services so it's 2D for most.
My opinion on ICS: It's pretty good as far as I am concerned - one nice thing about it is that you get improved multi-core CPU scheduling in the pseudo-kernel service (Dalvik virtual machine software) so the apps run better compared to Gingerbread.

Thanks for all your replies. I have flashed to ICS, and I have also hard reset my pone, for now it does work well, but pictures where better in GB. For all the rest it Works quiet good. Sometimes I have notice that it gets slow, specially when someone calls, it takes long time for the answear option to appear. Also the auto brightness does not work good. And also the problems I read about 3D pictures are there.
I will test it for a few days, and if this issue continues I will go back to Ginger, since it is very frustrating to try to answear a call. I have not tested in games since I don`t play much.
I have also notice that ram gets very fast to low levels and that is what makes it slow. I have dissable some application in the settings like google play books and google music.
Thanks

SD card write permissions

It may sound like a silly question, but where I can enable write permissions for SD card to some applications? I'm not able to delete photos from the Camera app, Google Photo, and Open Camera?
There is no possibility to save Apps on the Card, at least I have the same issue.
After choosing "Memory" from any given App, I have no button which says "Change", even if that is mentioned in the official Manual from HTC. I wrote HTC, if this is a wanted behavior, a common bug, or something individual. As I wrote them yesterday, they haven't answered yet.
Has anyone else this issue?
My Specs: Oreo 8.0.0 Patch Level November 2017, European Version (Bob/Austria)
SD Card is a SanDisk Extreme 64GB UHS 3, so that shouldn't pose a problem either.
Even AppMgr III says, there would be Apps which I could transfer over my SD-Card, but not possible, as there is no "Change" button available in the Memory Section from Apps. I tried preinstalled, new ones, nothing worked.
Had the same problem until I formatted the SD card (using the storage settings menu). Now it's working as expected.
I put the SD card from my old phone (Marshmallow) right into the U11 Life - maybe the old DCIM folder was reused and had some weird access permissions or something

Thanks, although my card was in my Vernee Apollo before and it didn't work with, or without formatting.
Had Marshmallow on Apollo as well.
Have meanwhile tried a different card as well.
W/o formatting as well as with. No difference.
According to that and the fact that HTC is not responding on Mail or Live-Chat, I'm thinking of setting back my U11 life to factory settings.
In all Manuals that I could find, it is never being mentioned, that using Sd-Cards as an extended internal memory should oppose any problem, but I still don't have a "Change" Button in the Memory Settings from any given app.
It's annoying, as my free internal memory gets smaller and smaller each day.
I didn't get a new phone to have problems that are pre-marshmellow.
I am aware it is a new phone and not all occuring problems have been solved, but if one doesn't even get suppot from the supplier, it is even more annoying

Made a reset of the Phone and installed all the Apps but still no possibility to transfer Apps. HTC won't answer either. Their support sucks.
Not answering to Live Chat nor Mails.
Have no clue, how to go on. Space on the card will not be sufficient after a while.

Finally got an answer from HTC.
With the HTC U11 Life it is NOT possible to install Apps on the external SD Card.
This seems due to the Android One Conception, at least I'd think so, because Pixel Phones don't support SD Card either.
If it will be changed for App storing in later OTAs they couldn't say anything.
Took them more than 3 weeks to answer a Ticket.
The hotline though was kinda quick, which I wouldn't have expected.
They had a system issue, which caused the Ticket delay, at least the Lady on the Phone said so.
No mentioning about that in the answered ticket.
This fact really sucks, with the 32GB Version.
Is not full yet and with the Stock Cam App one can automatically save Pics on the SD, at least something.
I'll handle it, as I'm not installing tons of huge games and even Spotify can choose the Card as the space for downloaded Songs.

S7 videos take up room, even after deletion

Seasons greetings! So here's the situation. I have a T-Mobile SM-930U Galaxy S7 on Oreo. The issue I'm having is that when I am recording video (QHD and FHD) and delete the file, there is still space taken up in the phone storage. Whether it is recorded to the phone or SD card, it still takes up a gigantic amount of room. I've been using the Samsung camera app and even tried a couple of other camera apps and it's the same result. I take a lot of videos for my blog and am forced to format my phone literally every two days. I searched through every folder, including hidden folders and used Cleanmaster. I've run out of ideas and don't know what else to do. Has anyone had this problem or was able to solve it? Please help ?
