I have a Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 that I upgraded (and rooted) to Gingerbread I9003 XXKPH. I was wondering if there is any way to update to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 or at least to Gingerbread 2.3.6 (mine is 2.3.4). And if only an upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.6 is possible, what are the benefits?

google is your friend (so is the searchbox on top of this page)
As impressive as that was, I already googled both, and I'm currently making my way through the results. But, I don't seem to be making any progress with the ICS search.

there is no ICS for I9003, and there will never be an official one, so dont bother with it
Who said anything about official?

ok... let me re-phrase... there is currently no ICS for I9003, there might be a compiled source for it sometime in the future (or maybe even is judging by search results). however, most stuff wouldnt work, and would need the work of a dedicated developer who owns a I9003, which we dont have (and even then would be buggy as hell)!
the obvious point still stands... dont bother
Fair enough. Thanks!

So this means that if I have XXKPH, I must first flash XXKPE and then flash XXKPQ which is the latest one?

yes, exactly
reason: KPE is a full ROM (with bootloader, PDA etc) so can be seen as "base" for future roms, all other roms only have 1 PDA file

you need to have samsung drivers installed...
install samsung kies and connect the phone once via kies
then try flashing again, i think that should solve your problem
Actually I managed to fix it just by flashing the pit file with all the others (pda, phone, etc.) together i.e. at the same time and that worked. I also managed to flash XXKPQ right afterwards. Currently using your brilliant idea of a Google search to root XXKPQ!
Thanks
Use the universal cf-root from this forum! Comes with updated cwm, binary, Superuser and of course root.

Which file exactly do I use? There are 5 different ones listed in the attached files part of the post.
Also, do I just flash it as PDA?
And do I have to do Wipe data/Factory Reset and Wipe Cache afterwards?

Oh i know that is available. But it's just that it has too many issues with it right now: Swype not working, FCs, Crackling sounds in audio, etc. So i wanted to flash a FW that is stable.
So i asked around a bit and found out that JPM is the most stable. But then i saw on samfirmware that they released XWJPF like 12 days back. And i haven't found anyone who has used it so far to get their input. So was just wondering which one to flash.
PS - never flashed a FW before, but been reading enough for the past two days to be comfortable enough to try it.
well i wud suggest u go for i5801 zhjpf......its the only rom which dont have the choppy call bug.

hi
i have used DDJP2 for a long time more than 2 weeks except for the swype not working(i dont use it so im OK) i have faced no problems at all as u have not flashed any rom till date id suggest u try flashing this vie kies and then decide what u want latter on
goodluck happy flashing
@haree
ok thanks...
Just to be clear you are not having the crackling sound bugs at all? Swype i can live without (there is a fix for that too though).
I can't upgrade via Kies coz the internet connection that i have blocks it. But i do have the one package tar file for DDJP2, so i can flash through odin.
But i have read that it is safer to flash without the bootloader, i.e., no chance of bricking it. So i was wondering if anyone has a build for JP2 with all individual files, that'd be great. Or if i can make it using the one package file someway, that'd be even better.
Oh and will flashing with ODIN delete my data or leave it intact??
hi
i dont understand ur internet problem
but if u want to flash via odin read the link given below in detail before attempting anything via odin off ur virus scan while using odin and log in as admin while using odin

the probablility of bricking is as low as burning yourself with a smoke
It didn't boot for me until I flashed JG6 eclair ROM first.
Can't see much difference to JPM.. except that It's missing finnish language. Has all of the slavic languages, though.

I see someone else having the same issue. have you tried both the universal cfroot and the one specifically for kpq? have you ensured to wipe all caches after installing? if you don't have much work done in adding personal stuff to you phone, why not try a factory reset at the same time?

before installing cfroot, have you confirmed your wireless is working at this point? if it's working, read this thread to understand better what you have to do to avoid errors.
next try installing this kernel from utter chaos (v5t6, the one I use), and this cfroot (universal + extra, the one I use) and see if you still have wifi, which should be working fine.

why did you try to go backwards from GB to Froyo?
if you weren't really intending to go backwards, then start with kpe. after downloading the kpe file, use pit ONLY FIRST, then when done, remove battery, reinsert and go to download again and flash all of kpe, then kph, then kpq.
if you were intending to go to froyo, I don't know if a pit file is necessary first, but how are you getting errors in odin? is there any interruption during the process?

so you flashed the pit by itself, then disconnected the phone, removed the battery, reinserted the battery and went into download mode again without issues, but then kpe failed at the .sbl? the only thing I can think of are: 1) like sirilpta said, check the md5, or re-download the files, and ensure they are the proper size. I've had files fail at close to 100% completion with only a tiny bit of data missing, but that's all it takes to fail, and 2) something wrong with your phone. so, check the files and redownload them if necessary to make sure they're the proper size first and let us know how it goes.

I don't think that Superoneclick works with every GB firmware. Actually, i'm using I9003XWKPK firmware and superoneclick did not work. I tried it several times.
amit.bagarias universal root worked like a charm !
Oh ya?
Because, I am on XXKPQ and used Superoneclick..The older version.
And, If it is so, You can try out the Universal CF-ROOT which is irrespective of your Firmware!
You can find them here-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056

Sir what do you mean by irrespective? You mean any firmware will do? One more thing, in the link provided, there are 2 downloadable links. One is "bagara.tar something like that" and the one is "cf-root.apk" What should i use sir? And how do i use those files? I am very sorry for my innocence. I hitted the thanks button.
Try this

I had used the above DoomLords Toolkit one click root for my GB 2.3.6. it worked fine for me. SuperOneClick wasn't working for me

in this thread, he says this "Attached you will find the CWM ... just flash with ODIN selecting in the PDA source the CWM file. Also you can find the version to flash from CWM Manager app."
Im kinda confused cause i tried downloading odin, then clicked PDA. then cant see that CWM thing he mentioned. I just noticed that the "bagaria-09.GT-I9003_PDA.tar" is there. So should i do this,
1. Put in download mode.
2. Second Plug my phone. (USB debugging ON)
3. Click PDA then select bagaria-09.GT-I9003_PDA.tar
4. Click Start
5. Clear Cache from Recovery mode.
Done? Am i right?
Please clear me up about those CWM thing cause cant understand. Thanks a lot sir.
Yes you are right !
If you already had the CWM app running on your phone you could have used the second file.
I did it like you describe. I always select "reset" before selecting the PDA file.
Good luck
Thanks. I got confidence now. Maybe root it later. But i need more guidance. Ive read a lot of comments, some says after rooting. Their Wi-fi is not working anymore? So say, this happen to me. How do i unroot if i used the amit bagarias.tar through odin?

I just installed the cyanogen 10 mod to my blaze and tried it. i went to this file manager that told me to reroot my phone so that I may be able to use it better. I went to odin to reroot it again but i accidentally used the original blaze.pit file on it and when it rebooted it showed me the original samsung starter instead of the cyanogen mod starter. That wasn't the problem, the problem was it never went in to the phones home screen or apps. Instead it continues to show the samsung logo and the flying android over and over again. I tried using the SGH-T769-hitsquad tar file to fix it (i need to mention that i bricked it once before and used this tar file to fix it) but it keeps taking me to the samsung logo. I can't even try to factory restore it because it just starts acting strange when I go to the menu. I can still go into download mode, i've gone searching for a file or anything to help me fix it but i can't find anything. Please, any suggestions?!
Here's a link to stock Tmo Blaze tar's from GB to ICS. ICS is the UVLH5 file. I suggest download that one.. then flash that file through odin.. dont include a Blaze pit file. just PDA file which is the one you'll download.
EDIT:
They're the ones ontop of the page that says Firmwares for SGH-T769 - USA (T-Mobile)
Let me know if it works for you.

Yeah, all you need is to reflash cwm through odin or if you still have cwm just flash a superuser or supersu zip.

Which superuser.zip should i use?
This thread should help you.
Just use that superuser.zip file, unless you want SuperSU, which I think it's better,
