[GUIDE] How to convert your favorite BML rom to MTD - Epic 4G Android Development

Before I even start I would like everyone if they haven't already to read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387334 and watch this video on MTD courtesy of QBKing77
http://youtu.be/ds9rwAoI2IQ
I did this with Legendary RC2.2 rom and it worked flawlessly. I will not promise it will work for any other BML rom but I don't see why not.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE NOR IS ANYONE ELSE BUT YOURSELF, YOU KNOW THE RISK.... SO WHAT?? WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT??
Also I would like to thank edfunkycold because it was his work that led me to make this guide. ALL CREDIT GOES TO HIM!!!!! HE IS ALSO NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE!!!!!
REQUIREMENTS
-Micro USB cord
-Currently on a BML rom, if you are on a MTD rom you will have to Odin back
-CWM5 you must use this to make your nandroid back up. NO ACSRECOVERY
GETTING STARTED
Step 1:
Ok so when I did this I was on CM7 which is MTD. So I had to use Odin to flash back to BML. So if you are on MTD already your gonna have to do alittle bit to get back to BML because
you have to make a nandroid backup of the BML rom you want to convert.
If you are on the BML rom you want to convert currently then you can skip to step 2.
This will delete ALL your DATA, make sure you backup all your music, photos, videos, etc. And use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps and copy all this to your pc.
Follow these video guides to Odin back to the stock froyo rom. Once you are done and rooted with CM5 on the BML rom you want to convert you can go on to step 2.
Courtesy of QBKing77
First follow this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFazLOVXPns this will put to on stock froyo EC05
Then you will follow this if you can't OTA update to the EI22 modem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H6k-WNcpcA
Then follow this because if you try and flash CWM it won't work till you do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRzzIqouE
And finally follow this and make sure you don't use the ACSrecovery in the video instead download the CM5.tar.md5 Odin flashable version in the Development section http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWOLEXqAeCc
Once you are done you can flash to whatever EI22 BML rom you want. The kernel does not matter so flash one don't flash one doesn't really matter. I flashed to Legendary RC2.2 because that is my favorite rom and it's what edfunkycold did also. Though this should work with any EI22 BML rom.
Step 2:
I like to make sure that everything is running smoothly on the BML rom before backing up. Boot into recovery and make sure your on the lastest version on CWM NOT ACSrecovery. Make a nandroid backup of your rom.
Step 3:
Now you will have to download and flash to a MTD rom, this converts you to MTD and you will not be able to go back to BML unless you follow step 1. I suggest CleanGB MTD rom by Toadlife becaue it's small and you only have to convert to MTD other then that the MTD rom you flash to is irrelevant. Wipe 3X and flash your MTD rom, your phone will reboot during the conversion to MTD. Once you are done Wipe 3X again.
Step 4:
Boot up your phone, you are now on MTD. Plug your Epic into your PC and browse your SD card. Go to the clockworkmod folder and open up your backup folder it will be named something like this "2011-12-31.08.33.43". You must rename the ext4 or rfs in the files cache.ext4.tar, system.ext4.tar and data.ext4.tar or rfs instead of ext4 depending on the rom you backed up to yaffs2. So they will look like this cache.yaffs2.tar, data.yaffs2.tar, and system.yaffs2.tar
(MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE ALL FILE NAMES ON THE COMPUTER, DON'T USE YOUR PHONE IT SEEMS TO CAUSE MD5 ERRORS WHEN RESTORING)
Then open the nandroid.md5 file in notepad. Press CTRL+H and it will open a little window. Under "find what" type ext4 and under "replace with" type yaffs2. Then click "replace all" If your not sure if your on ext4 or rfs just change ext4 to rfs and click "replace all" again. Then close out of this window and save the file. Thanks Flastnoles11 I think you said you did it this way in notepad
Step 5:
Once you have renamed the 3 files and changed all the ext4 or rfs's to yaffs2 in the nandroid.md5 file you can unplug and turn off your phone and boot into CWM5. Wipe 3X. Navigate to "backup and restore" then to "advanced restore". Choose your backup. Choose "restore system" and let that run. Then navigate back to "advanced restore" pick your backup and choose "restore data". Navigate back to advanced restore one last time and choose your backup and choose "restore cache". I do one final Wipe 3X and wipe data/factory reset because last time when I didn't I kept getting the download error in the market. But I just had to do the factory reset in the "Privacy" menu under settings on your Phone. Also Fix your permissions while you are in CWM.
Step 6:????
Step 7:Profit!!!!
Boot up your phone and you are now on whatever ROM you backed up with your setup if you had it setup before but you are on MTD. You can go to "about phone" and check your kernel version. It should be something or other MTD. But your build number is whatever your BML rom was. Wanna make sure your actually on MTD?? Well first off you didn't have to Odin back to it. Second you can go and download any TW.MTD Kernel and flash it. Please DON'T flash a CM.MTD kernel.
Here is a picture of my "about phone" showing that I am on Legendary RC2.2 but running the Shadow MTD kernel

Excellent post!! Should be a sticky. I'm not on mtd yet , because I'm waiting for all the dust to settle from the fast and furious pace of development and bug fixes , but I'm leaning in that direction.
Its guides like this that'll make it easier for us mortals to take the plunge.

Excellent guide and very easy to follow! I did this before you posted this but it would've been a lot easier to figure out if I would have seen this first!

Well thank you, MTD seems to have no affect on the ROM, it runs smoothly and no weird reboots or such. The only problem I had was not being able to download anything from the market, which was solved by a factory reset. Though I don't have service right now I can't confirm mms or 3g or such working

Sorry man, took me forever to write this up. I wanted to make sure everything was working smoothly too. I did this like 4 times now with no ill affect. Take the "Plunge" now people!!!!!

Was on CM7 MTD, followed the steps here to go back to a Nandroid I had from 2 days ago of Legendary. Then flashed the newest Samurai Katana MTD kernel. No wipe. Reboot. BAM. Amazing. Thanks x100

I plan on making the jump this weekend. Good to find all this info in one place. Thanks.

I walked a drunk person through doing it while I was drunk. It's easy. They only had their phone and a tab.

You could just take the /system from the cwm flashable of your favorite rom and paste it into the cm7 cwm flashable. As long as you flash a tw mtd kernel you'd be fine

So I can make ACS ICS v5 a MTD ROM?
*faints*
I'll try it later today!

If anyone needs help let me know. It's shockingly easy.

Will this work while running a BML theme on a BML rom? Or does it exclusively apply to a clean rom?

I read through it all, and I think I got it.
One final question....
Once I have converted everything over, and do a nand backup, I should then be able to flash between backups of CM7 and My fav ROM (Leg 2.2), correct?

I am not sure about this, the rom will have everything you had before the convert but if it doesn't all you have to do is redownload the theme and befre you flash it navigate to mounts and storage then mount system, flash your theme, then unmount system and rebbot

Yes after this you can switch back and forth between whatever MTD roms you want, and if you wanna go back just do the advanced restore again then BLAM!!!!

Awesome, I have SO been waiting for a way to do that!
I am sure this will be made easier at some point, but the directions had everything I need to do it, so I am super pumped.
My fav ROM available via nand, and official CM7

Yeah you shouldn't have to do any wipes before you restore, because this basically does all that for you. Once you are on it though you should normal wipe to flash kernels, etc.

Kies is not required for what you want to do, but without knowing
if your Ubuntu OS can reconize your phone as an external USB
flash drive device and or if you have a microUSB card reader and a
microUSB memory card in your phone its difficult to tell you the
exact step by step way to flash roms to your phone.
I can help, but I do need to know these things first.

If you have all that just download the rom zip, place on SD, reboot into recovery, install zip from SD, choose the zip you desire and then select yes and wait .

first dont ask questions in dev
next kies does nothing but install drivers for the infuse. you.have ubuntu. you.dont need drivers.
what you need is cwm to flash roms and heimdall to return to stock.
google heimdall download. get the frontend package and the backend package and install. you may need to set permissions.as executable.
for.cwm the easiest way is to use heimdall to push a kernel to the.phone. download the comunity kernel. extract the .zip and place the zimage in the kernel slot in heimdall
the phone needs to be in download mode look it up.
alternatively yu can use sgs kernel flasher. get it in android market. that app is self explainatory.
there is another way we used before we had these cool custom kernels but i wont get into that.

hmm,. i just updated to heimdall 1.3.0 im not sure i like it.
i prefer 1.1.0. it was very strait forward.
edit: after further use i definately prefer v1.1.0, 1.3 isnt as friendly for flashing kernels. it wants a firwamre.xml file in the .tar or something, i need to read up on the new heimdal, the old one let you flash the different partitions individually. and the files were not .tar achives, you just extracted the images from the odin packages.
im sure the new version has its purpose but for simplicity id say get 1.1.1. the 1.1.1 frontend package seems to work over the 1.2 comandline package.
v1.3 seems to be for compatability with future devices(or current ones) that have a different partition table, the firmware.xml file can specify what device the files get flashed to. this is more advanced and not for everyone.
Dani, just go to the "Flash" tab. The old style of doing things is still there.

thanks linux, but i couldnt see how to insert the files. it lets me search for a pit but nothing else.
does the phone need to be connected first?
does it now require a pit before the other files?(i cant get the unbrick ackage to download at this time to test that)
should it be in a .tar file or still extracted like it was before?

Like i said... i have NOTHING as far as recovery, flash software, ect... Im rooted and thats it.
When i plug my phone in, and enable USB, it sees my internal & external memory separately, so im good to go.
So if you could help me though this, that would be spectacular.
Hell... i might even be cool and donate you a few bucks on PayPal
What you might want to look into are the "Odin" flashable ROM packages - these will at least get you root and CWM recovery.
The Ubuntu equivalen of Odin is Heimdall, as mentioned previously. There are a few tricks to flashing a complete Odin firmware package with heimdall, next time I'm at my Ubuntu box I'll go into more detail.
To use Odin/Heimdall, once you've got them set up and have something to flash - turn off your phone, and then hold VolUp and VolDn at the same time while plugging in the USB cable to the phone. A yellow screen with an Android doing construction work will appear.
Edit: And Heimdall 1.3.0 is just as easy to flash kernels with as 1.1.0... 'heimdall flash --kernel zImage' (I don't use the GUI frontend ever)

no donation needed.
Ubuntu doesn't need any special packages or drivers on these phones at all.
actually a heimdall install on ubuntu iis a lot easier than an Odin install in windows, there are never driver issues. infact Ubuntu is eaiser to install than windows so all these Mac users doing the vm thing with windows and Odin are making life hard for themselves.
you can get cwm recovery by flashing a voodoo kernel. this can be done in heimdall (1.1.1 is self explanitory, 1.3.0 might need some explaining but I figured it out so feel free to ask if you need to.) the kernel can also be flashed in a market app called sgs kernel flasher.

but us linux newbs like the gui, it reminds us of windows.
but yeah, you're right that is easy.
the new gui requires a pit to flash individual partitions. I found it odd. but its not too difficult.

First download this cwm recovery kernel here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?srhipjqvy7mpdde
Then rename the downloaded zip file to "update.zip"
and copy it to root of your INTERNAL SD card.
Now boot to the blue text recovery screen of your phone
pressing the up/down and power keys at the same time
then after 10-15 seconds letting go.
If you have trouble getting into the stock blue recovery
menu you can go to the market and download a free
app called "reboot recovery" that way you can go to
the recovery menu with one click.
After you are in the blue recovery menu select "reinstall packages"
You may have to do this twice the first time, then you will see the
clockworkmod recovery menu and you will be ready to flash a
custom rom.
I do now know which custom rom you want to download, so go
ahead and download a custom rom of your choice (must be a zipfile)
and then copy the custom rom zipfile to the root of your internal
sdcard.
After that reboot the phone into recovery using the "reboot recovery"
app or by pressing vol up/down and power keys after the phone is off.
Then you get to the cwm recovery menu and select
"install zip from sd card" then you will see the files in sdcard.
Select the custom rom zipfile from the the menu by going up/down
on list using vol up and vol down buttons. When you highlight the
file you want press the power button and let it start flashing
the custom rom.
On first bootup on custom rom it usually takes twice as long
to complete the boot process.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Good luck, and yes a donation is always welcome
Have a great day,
Enjoy!
alright... got it loaded...
-phone didnt catch fire.
-the sketchy beaner down the road hasnt stolen my car yet
-i still have 1/2 a pot of tea left...
:: UPDATE ::
STEP 9) Press OK and hold your breath. When 3e recovery comes up, just select reinstall packages.
yeah... i never got that... is that an issue?
2nd thing, was kinda hoping it would be a bit louder... since it has voodoo sound. I DLed the FREE manager, but it doesn't seem any different...
3rd thing, how do i change the lock screen back to the default? (just the large pane, instead of the sliders)
That aside... now that ive had it up and running for a few hours and able to play online and play games to really test it. I really like it. nice and smooth, quick as hell too!
@MisterJunky - It appears my PayPal was attacked, so once i get it sorted and un-frozen, ill send ya a few bucks for helping me.
help on my previous.... anyone?
.....?
voodoo sound is mainly for recording and headphones( headphones more so than recording) . it had no effect on the external speaker.

FAQ:
Q: VIRUS VIRUS VIRUS!!!
A: The rage against the cage exploit is technically a 'virus' because it uses a hole in android to it's advantage. It is not a 'bad' virus. Just add it to the ignore list or use a pre-rooted odin tar.
Q: I think I bricked my Epic
A: Read post 2
Q: The odin doesn't work
A: Try removing the .md5 extension from the tar
IF YOU HAVE ROOTED ANOTHER DEVICE BEFORE
Please update your android sdk and remove all drivers from other Samsung phones
There is no s-on
The recovery buttons (volume down, power and camera) bring you straight to recovery mode and not to a fastboot menu
ROMS FROM OTHER PHONES DO NOT WORK
The first thing you want to do before you root is download my root pack, this will have everything you need to root, unroot, install ClockworkMod and unbrick: http://www.multiupload.com/2R449NILF9
HOW TO ROOT:
Download and extract the pack listed above
Install the Samsung drivers included
(optional but recommended) Install the android SDK
Read the FAQ
On your phone got to settings>Applications>Development and check the box that says 'USB Debugging'
Plug in your phone and wait for the drivers to be recognized
On phone choose charge only
[WINDOWS] Go to the root folder and run 'run.bat' as admin [LINUX] Run run.sh
Wait for phone reboot
Power off your phone after the whole process finishes
Hold Volume Down, Camera and Power until you get a purple recovery
Use the volume buttons to navigate to backup and restore and use camera to select [HINT: To go back use the back arrow]
Make a new backup
Choose reboot system now
You are now rooted, go flash a custom rom if you want [NOTE: Almost all themes don't work unless you are on a rom that is deodexed]
HOW TO FLASH A ROM:
Find a kernel that works with the rom (like SyndicateRom Frozen and Genocide kernel) and put both the kernel and rom on your SD card
Go into recovery mode the same way as before
Choose wipe data/factory reset
Choose wipe cache
Go into advanced and choose wipe dalvik cache
Go to flash zip from sd card
Choose choose zip from sd card
Choose the rom
Do choose zip from sd card again
Choose the kernel
Reboot
***FIRST BOOT WILL TAKE UP TO 10 MINUTES BUT PROBABLY ~2
HOW TO FLASH A THEME:
MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON A DEODEXED ROM
MAKE SURE THE THEME IS FOR THE SAME UPDATE AS THE ROM (EX. EC05 themes are for EC05 roms ONLY)
Go into recovery
(recommended but not needed) Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash the theme
Reboot
HOW TO FLASH A KERNEL:
MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON A DEODEXED ROM
MAKE SURE THE KERNEL IS FOR THE SAME UPDATE AS THE ROM (EX. EC05 kernels are for EC05 roms ONLY)
Go into recovery
(recommended but not needed) Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash the theme
Reboot
MOTIVATION
-It is nearly impossible to brick while rooting
-When you root, you get cool stuff like a faster phone, bug fixes, themes and some root only apps!
-If you brick, first try some of the guides here at xda then, if they don't work, bring it into sprint and pretend you don't know what happened, DON'T admit to rooting...

Personally, I like it. It's informative and is a great post overall. Thanks a lot for this. I am by no means a newbie to rooting this phone or flashing ROMs and mods but I have friends who are.

Make sure to include a note that says what "clear data/factory reset" does(erase all phone data). I like this maybe if it had a link to the one click root, and how to root and install cwm on gingerbread it would be better.

One thing that might be useful
When doing one click root; they need to turn off the anti-virus because it will see that rageagainstthecage is a virus (when it isn't) and their root process will fail

[MOD] Nandroid Backups of BWL ROMS converted to MTD

So I have taken the liberty to convert some popular BML roms to MTD so that those of you that really wanna do this don't have to Odin back to stock. All you will have to do is download one of the Nandroid back-ups that I provided below, and advanced restore it in recovery.
DISCLAIMER
I am not responsible for any that happens to your phone!!!! You are responsible for yourself and always know there are risk with these things. YOU HAVE BE WARNED!!! These are also NOT official releases or updates to any rom. These are JUST BML roms converted to MTD and backed up. These are the same as the BML version.
REQUIREMENTS
1.Micro USB cord
2.Currently on any MTD Rom
3.On CWM recovery v5.0.2.7
4.Make sure your not on cm7 but any other MTD rom
5.Optional:Backup any apps you want with titanium backup or similar app because this will format your data and you will have fresh install of whatever BML rom converted to MTD. YOUR SDCARD WILL NOT BE FORMATTED
GUIDE
Step 1: Download one of the following nandroid backups of whatever rom you want.
Legendary RC2.2-
Rebirth Gen 2.0.1-
Serenicity 3.0-
SleeperRom 1.0.11-
Urban Precision X2-
These all will have Samurai.TW.MTD.RONIN5 kernel because I don't want anyone coming from CM7 to have the CM kernel after the restore. This fixes that.
Step 2: Once you download you will have "ROMyouCHOSE".zip, just extract this to sdcard/clockworkmod/backup on your phone. (MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A FOLDER NAMED AFTER THE .ZIP IN YOUR BACKUP FOLDER MAKE SURE IT'S A FOLDER STARTING WITH 2012-01-01)
DON'T RENAME THE FOLDER INSIDE THE ZIP OR MODIFY IT OR ANY FILES WITHIN IN ANYWAY!!!!!!
You will now have a folder named "2012-01-01.varies.with.rom" in your backup folder.
Step 3: Turn off your phone and boot into recovery. YOU CAN WIPE DATA, CACHE, AND SYSTEM IF YOU REALLY WANNA. Just navigate to "backup and restore" and then to "advanced restore" NOT RESTORE I SAID ADVANCED RESTORE. Then choose the folder you just downloaded and choose "restore system" it will check the md5 and it should verify. Let it run through and when it is done navigate back to advanced restore and then your folder and choose "restore data". Once it is done navigate back once more and this time choose "restore cache".
Step 4: Once the restore is done, don't wipe data or cache or dalvik or anything. Just navigate to "advanced" and choose "Fix Permissions" and reboot.
Step 5: You will now be on whatever rom you chose but if you look in about phone your kernel will be SAMURAI.TW.MTD.RONIN5
You can flash any TW MTD kernel you want now. DON'T FLASH A CM MTD KERNEL PLEASE!!!!!
Step 6: ????
Step 7: Profit!!!!
TIPS
1.If the md5 verification fails try redownloading the zip file please.
2.Don't flash a CM MTD kernel.
3.If you would like to flash a theme or such you must navigate to "mounts and storage" then mount system, flash theme, unmount system, then reboot.
4.You must be currently on a MTD rom for this to work and have CWM v5.0.2.7, which rom doesn't matter.
5.If the restore cache is failing or such then just forget about it. I like to do the step but again isn't quite necessary.
6.Any option to reboot recovery either in recovery or in the ROM, DO NOT WORK. This is a MTD thing, it isn't because a bad flash or what not. We will have to wait and see if someone can figure it out.

I know I ruined someone's day with that, funny story was I did get thunderhawk all the way done, but then I deleted it by accident. The names of the folders don't have much variation and I can't rename them cuz it breaks it. I have been at this since around 1 and I barely got up from my chair. If anyone as any request for any EI22 Rom I forgot and I will do them tomorrow or maybe later tonight if I get bored.

Yes most likely! Something in the md5 probably got screwey... It's the editor type, I used notepad but had to make sure the end line wasn't altered, notepad has a tendency to do that.

So for those of you skeptics out there it will work If you follow the steps. Thank you Legendary for this awesome thread and to Ed for his idea of coming up with this.

Yeah legendary worked. I figured out the problem. It was kinda stupid on my part. When i extracted the zip to clockworkmod/backup it was putting the folder that said legendary 2.2 in the backup and the the actual backup (2012-1-1.whatever the numbers were) were in the next folder. I moved that back to the backup folder with the legendary 2.2 folder and bam! md5 matching.

Here's a question: does JoyOS's launcher support landscape? I ask it because MIUI's doesn't. I know I can install other launchers, that's not the point.
Also, if it does support landscape, does it have screen rotation animations, like CM7 has? Not that it's critical, but looks great.
What about themes by the way? Are there any? Or is it just iPhone-style and that's it?
Thank you in advance.
Blue recovery screen
flashed rom and now I'm stuck at rebooting to blue recovery screen. Tried to get to download mode to try the gremlin remover but goes back to blue. I flashed another rom but it still boots to blue. Any help? Thanks in advance.
---------- Post added at 08:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:08 AM ----------
Finally got it into download mode, will try to redownload the rom and try again
---------- Post added at 08:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 AM ----------
Same result blue screen and wont reboot. Not sure what is wrong
Brick0044....the only way I found to recover from that was the [odin+cwm] gb ext4 starter pack in the dev section by FBis251
That's if you decide you don't want to stick with that rom ....otherwise just reflash a few times and you will get it
@g4ry12: the launcher itself does not support landscape mode but in other apps or windows do and yeah, since Erikmm said it based on CM7.2 (completely then it has all CM7 features like themechooser, animations...there's a section for CM7 settings in Joyos settings) and by mention themes, it has themechooser, exactly from CM7 but the theme just affect the status bar, buttons,...blah blah, but not the icons and you can't change the icons except you know how to modify the launcher app...that's all
@BRICK0044: Just read the OP, the OP for CM7 (or the same as Miui-revenge) said that you can flash easily through these steps:
erikmm said:
1 .Download the following:
efs-backup link : efs-backup
efs-restore link : efs-restore
JoyOS rom*check md5 posted below download link*
2. Place those three files in root of your sd card
3. Backup data with Titanium Backup or whatever app you use (optional)
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Do a Nandroid Backup
6. Flash EFS-Backup
7. Backup sd card to your computer ( you can do this by going to mounts and storage
and mount USB storage, this way you wont leave recovery and the efs backup is in there too)
8. Flash JoyOS port (it will start then reboot itself into blue cwm)
9. Go to Mounts and Storage
10. Format System
11. Mount System
12. Go back to main menu
13. Wipe data/factory reset
14. Go into Install zip from sdcard
15. Choose zip from sdcard
16. Flash efs-restore
17. Flash JoyOS port
18. Reboot.
19. Let it sit for 10 mins or so.
20. Enjoy.

Remember to flash the efs-backup bfore you so anything else and first things after you wipe things, format system, mount system in the BLUE recovery is flash the efs-restore and follow those steps.
Anyway, those are things you should do after you solve your problem...And as you describe, seems like you were still on <3e> recorvery, you must do GR (got into download mode to do GR), if after GR, it's still blue and error, I think you can choose boot into system by press the power button once on that highlight option in the blue recovery and then, everything should be ok (as I experienced this before) and after you got into the stock rom, you can go to play store, download SGS kernel flasher and flash one of these Basic with a Twist SGS4G KJ6 Kernel and then follow those instruction below to flash JoyOS...
If that's not your case, I recommend you to do One-click Heimdall and after you got to the rom, flash a new kernel via CWM or SGS kernel flasher in playstore...
And even if you were not on <3e> recovery but BLUE 5.5...recovery, then you just need to follow Erikmm guidance to flash this
And Finnally, IT IS NOT RECOMMEND TO ODIN (do GR) OR HEIMDALL VIA FRONT USB PORTS ON YOUR PC, YOU SHOULD DO THAT WITH BACK PORTS (ON YOUR PC CASE)
Wow take the loooooooooong way lol
This is just another miui style rom...flashing away from this doesn't have to be long and tedious

Erik, I figured out why some of your users are getting an error 7 when they flash. They don't have an efs backup in their sdcards so when they try to flash the rom, updater.sh will exit with status 7. Read the logic here:
https://github.com/teamacid/android_device_samsung_galaxys4gmtd/blob/gingerbread/updater.sh#L144
If they had been flashing from a BML rom then the efs would've gotten properly backed up.
Also reflashing the rom right away will work because the script will only run all the way once if it finds cyanogenmod.cfg on the sdcard:
https://github.com/teamacid/android_device_samsung_galaxys4gmtd/blob/gingerbread/updater.sh#L118
It's not necessarily a good thing that people can reflash even though the efs backup didn't get restored.

Good to know, thank you, I did not realize that based on CM7 meant all CM7 features, I thought it was just kernel, MTD, basic things like that. And thanks for the heads-up about no themed icons and no landscape mode for the launcher.

I dont think its necessary. But it would be safe to go ahead and use it. Ya know CYOA type of thing.
efs-backup won't work right since it's intended to be used from a BML kernel and it tries to mount /efs using the bml mount point. When CM7 release 11 comes out, you won't have to worry about this since the update.sh script will take care of the efs stuff for you. Erik is already using that script in one of his MTD roms, as long as all the roms get up to date with it, the efs-backup/restore zip files will become obsolete.

FB I used/followed the directions for the revenge rom to flash mokee and those directions still have us using the efs backup and restore. Is this updater.sh part of a new build?
Yup, I just haven't posted the new instructions in the wiki until Max gets R11 out, but as I said, Erik included that script in his build so you no longer need the efs zips with that specific rom.
