[Q] Rare brick message - Captivate General

Hey folks,
I was upgrading from GB w Fugu kernel to ICS RC1 and ended up soft bricking my cappy.
At first the power button did not work & I thought I had completely bricked it, but the volume up + power gives the following message in these colors with a black background:
"RST_STAT = 0x1
PMIC_IRQ1 = 0X3c
PMIC_IRQ2 =0X0
PMIC_IRQ3 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ4 = 0x0
PMIC_STATUS1 = 0xc0
PMIC_STATUS2 = 0X2C
Modem booting....
End modem booting
Now start usb upload"
Odin recognizes the device but a software update does not go ahead. Does anybody know how to get it into DL mode from here? I can take it from there.

If Odin recognizes it your in good shape. Try pulling the battery, have Odin running, hold down and power and put the battery in. I've never even heard of or seen that screen tho :/

I have seen this screen a few times or at least something real similar. After the first time I saw it (Back in the Eclair/Froyo days) was when I had to make my 1st Jig.

That's not good :/

[Q] Bricked phone question (Won't power on)

I applied to all in one update.zip without flashing to stock (same ROM but rooted, settings.db etc). Upon reboot I had it do the 512mb ext4 lagfix and it wouldnt reboot(It got stuck at the Galaxy S screen) . When I tried to do a nandroid restore it kept failing at /sd-ext part and would never reboot. I decided then to try an Odin one click ROM...I started it and walked away and about a minute later my phone's screen was bright green and the power no longer worked. Battery removal and install..same thing...nothing..not a download screen, not a recovery screen..nothing. Is there ANY way anyone can think of to reset this puppy. I have it boxed up and ready to ship out for replacement but Id feel alot better being able to wipe it. I'm assuming that if I can't get it to even power up they wont be able to tell I rooted it. Just seeing if anyone has any ideas.
/edit #2
When pressing power up and power I get
RST_STAT =0x1
PWIC_IRQ1 =0x80
PWIC_IRQ2 = 0x0
PWIC IRQ3 = 0x1
PWIC_IRQ4 =0x0
PWIC_STATUS1 = 0x80
PWIC_STATUS2 = 0x0

Just curious if there was a way around this (doubting it) Have the same situation myself now.

when you are on that screen can you try adb reboot download? masterclear in odin one click?
what rom were you on to begin with out of curiosity?
well first off there is only ONE odin one click, and it doesnt have roms. it flashes ATT 2.1 only.
so you used odin3 flashing utility. I bricked last night. HARD BRICK
power NOTHING
2 button + USB NOTHING
3 button NOTHING
but my jig would work sometimes... about 1 out of 10 tries. with pulling the battery in between each time. just kept at it and it would come on once. so i tried again and again...
and only every 1 out of a bunch would work... kept pulling the battery, wait, put in, jig... repeat...
all good now..
Hard brick is "doesn't do ****" no nothing, regardless of what you try it shown absolutely no signs of life. If you get that, box it up, there isn't a damn thing you can do.
Anything else, meaning any life at all, use a jig, there's plenty of posts here if you try the search with just jig in it. You can build one for about a buck if you have a spare charge cable ( or even without ).
For those of you who have a legit "Hard Brick" as in youre phone does absolutely nothing - AdamOutler is looking for completely bricked phones to do some testing on. More info on page 2 of this thread.

If you can help him out send him a PM, I know he'd appreciate it. And who knows he might be able to revive your dead cappy!

Mine's getting replaced under warranty, otherwise I would have been glad to help him out.
mobile tech videos is offering free jtag debricking for the first few too, because there is no guarantee still kinda testing. but if you are still able to sneak it into warranty.... and its real easy to, do it.
but i just half-hard bricked again tonight.
found a trick. if NOTHING turns on the screen. no buttons, no combos and trying jig. nothing
remove battery
count to 5
put battery back in
DO NOT TOUCH ANY BUTTONS!
put in jig.
if I touched ANY button the jig wouldnt work. screen would stay black
this is my experience over the past 2 nights.
when i figured out this trick, it worked EVERY TIME i wanted it to.
found this trick to work in my situation.
try.

[Q] How bricked am I?

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S (aka T959V). I upgraded to 2.3.5 via samfirmware.com and things were working pretty well, well, except that I was having a heckuva time rooting the phone w/2.3.5 so I could install CM 7.x.
I decided to revert to Froyo stock w/EZodin and while EZodin claimed that everything was fine during the installation, my phone has never exhibited signs of life after the RESET portion of EZodin: no blinking lights, no vibrations, just a black screen. No combination of:
- battery out, vol down, power, battery in
- battery out, vol up, power, battery in
- battery out, vol both, power, battery in
- battery out, vol both, battery in
- battery out, vol down, usb in, power, battery in
- etc ...
... causes any activity on the screen at all.
So I'm assuming that my bootloader is cooked in some way such that I can't even get to download mode. Before I resort to the jig method (or just return my phone to T-Mobile which is totally doable but not preferred if I can just kick it in the butt myself), are there further diags I can do to maybe get some activity out of this phone?
Are you sure it's a Galaxy S 4G (T959V)? To my knowledge CM7 was not ported to this phone.
There is no cm for this phone and what is ezodin? What exactly did you flash?

-battery out, vol down, usb in.
next wait like 10 min with battery out then try again.
--- all this should be done with odin running, cause i have had the phone complete black before, but odin will still see it. good luck
I'm gonna say you are in the wrong forum.
The galaxy s is not this section.
This is the galaxy s 4g.
Very different phones.
We don't have CM.
I wish we had CM.
I'm sad now.

Thanks for your reply!
The phone, while branded as a Samsung Galaxy S 4g at start up, well at least when it used to start up, is identified as SGH-T959V under Phone Info.

I flashed ezbase-ezrom from theandroidsoul.com. I was unable to post a link given my newness, but it can be Googled and is the first hit.
In retrospect, terrible, horrible, hideous freaking idea on my part.

I assume you mean battery out, vol down, usb in, power? Or battery out, vol down, usb in, battery in?
I am encouraged that maybe Odin will be able to see the device even if it's black even tho it wasn't the other day (maybe I wasn't persistent enough). Will have to give this a try. Thanks!
Remove battery
Start Odin
Plug phone into usb
Plug USB into computer
Hold both volume buttons(not power)
Insert battery
If odin doesn't see it first go try different usb ports. Still no go try a different computer. Still no go congrats you one of a select few to actually brick this device.
Good Luck

UnBrickable Mod to the rescue! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333424
UnBrickable mod allows total software based resurrection of the GlaxyS4G. The only downfall is the resistors are tiny and hard to work with if you don't have the tools.
I can perform this modification for $30 + shipping (usually $6). It works and from the point of modification on you will be able to resurrect your device using the Ultimate UnBrickable Resurector. Send me a PM if you would like me to do this for you.
I did almost the exact same thing. Turned out that the EZ was the wrong bootloader for this phone. I was way hard bricked. Sent mine to Mobile Tech to get it fixed. I found no other option.

HELP HELP!!!

Was on the phone with my mother and put her on speaker phone...
Went to the apps to open maps to see when she would be in town, and the phone went dead... Got a new battery put in it and just plugged it up and i have the Android Man on the screen and it says Downloading... Do not turn off target!!
in the top it says
FACTORY MODE
PRODUCT NAME : SGH-I727
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
Can i turn it off, what's the deal!?!?!
Your in download mode,. Not sure how you got there.
Try pulling the battery. Wait a minute. Then put it back and power on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
This belongs in the Q&A section for future reference.
The only way you could have gotten into download mode is by pressing all three buttons at once (power, volume up, and volume down). Like the above suggests, that should have you back up in no time, no need to panic.
dont stess just pull the battery and you will be ok. you can alse end up in download mode if you held the volume down button
Sent from my SGH-I727R using XDA App
Just wondering that its so easy to accidently press all three as the thumb and index finger on it when holding ghe phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
all is okay now, the original battery i had was whacked out, swapped with a new battery and no download mode.... Put the old battery in and download mode... whatev it's working now...
I would keep that battery!!
Seems to me that the defective battery might be sending a similar current to the one that is required for the USB jig. That's my theory anyway. Regardless, if it helps you to get into download mode that easily,I would keep it around in guess you are ever in a bind and need to get into download mode

[Q] Infuse flashing white screen

Hi Guys,
Need urgent help!!!
I wanted to update Samsung Infuse from 2.2.1 to 2.3.5. I used Odin and I997UCKI4-Homebinary.tar.md5 but it got stuck at image.gz something. Later, after waiting for long time, i pulled the usb cable from Infuse and then all screwed up. The phone is flashing white light as soon as i plug it to PC. Even if i plug it to charger, still it flashing white light. In Odin, i am getting removed, added, removed, added, removed......continuosly. It seems like infuse is restarting continuosly. i tried plugin cable in pc, pressing both volume but nothing is working,
I my phone dead??
Did you pull battery before holding both volume buttons and pluging phone into usb
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
No Jerry, but will give a try. I have taken out battery from Infuse. Pressed both volume button and inserted usb cabe in laptop. but nothing happened.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1237

Can some one plz help.....The phone is flashing white screen then goes blank then again white screen when pluged to laptop or charger. It actully getting restarted and goes off then again restart and goes off continuosly...
Nevermind. I was going to say odin back to stock but your having problems with the phone itself. Your phone is screwed. Do a warranty exchange if you can.

[Q] Help! True infuse brick and loop

Hey Gang! I have a not so common issue, from what I have searched and read.
I'm trying to fix a friends Infuse 4G from looping at the Samsung screen. Also the phone would power loop when battery is inserted and charge loop when plugged into the USB Cable. Nothing I have tried has worked.
Tried:
1. 3 button to CWM Recovery. FAIL
2. Volume up/dn held then plug USB in for download mode. FAIL
3. Plug in the USB with no battery, hold volume up/dn, insert battery for download mode. FAIL
Ok... now being really familiar with electronics, I made a JIG from a tutorial and here is the fun part for those that want to help out....
I plugged the JIG in, inserted the battery and behold... I got the download mode screen... but it too is LOOPING!!!!
So I tried a quick switch. Inserted JIG, Inserted battery, got the download mode screen and before it looped, I replaced the JIG with the USB Cable. FAIL! It started looping with the Samsung screen.
I am stumped! Can anyone help out or know how I can get past this issue so I can Odin or flash back to stock without backtracking to what I have already done?
Thanks in Advance,
Scott

Will check it out and will report back. Thanks again
That's definitely a messed up power button. My power button is messed up also. About every 3 months, I have to just slam the power button on a hard surface and it goes back to normal. Just a quick fix if nothing else works or if you can't fix it.

I may suggest tapping it or taking it out for a cleaning.
Or replacing it or even remapping it..there are 2 threads in the general section that is relevant.
I don't recommend slamming it though...what is good or omar's phone may not be good for zero's phone.
Lol valid point. Hope everything works out for you tho. Some people have gotten their power button fixed for cheap..don't know exact prices.
