[Q] Is SUPERCID a requirement when flashing ROMs? - HTC Sensation

Is SUPERCID always required if you want to flash a ROM?
I have a sim free UK XE, unrooted etc. I haven't felt the need to root/unlock/flash just yet, but no doubt it's just a matter of time before I do. One thing that puzzles me is SUPERCID, is it always a requirement to enable the freedom to flash ROMs, even with a sim free phone?

No it's not required.. It's only required when flashing a different region RUU... It has no role for custom roms

Thanks for clarifying that, one less thing to mess about with.

sensation help ???????? :)

Hi ...Iam new at rooting my sensation and I a little confused with upgrading firmware for ics
I have an htc sensation 4g (tmobile) S-off , hboot 1.23.0000 , radio 10.14.9035.01, cid t-mobo10 , mid pg5810000 ,4ext recovery touch and Iam trying to install extreme sensation ics ..
I appreciate your help THX
If you're new to the phone and flashing it why not read the op in the ROM thread? All of the instructions are there. First of all you need to flash firmware to 1.27 h boot so you can get super cid. AFAIK you don't have advanced fastboot commands on 1.23. Read the op so you don't screw up your phone.
I am not being an ass but it's getting really old with so many asking for help when the Rom threads have very detailed instructions. If you can't read the instructions or don't understand them then for your own protection you shouldn't be flashing your phone.

and watch out while messing with firmwares... you might end up with a very expensive brick
Doesn't 1.23 come with the 3.12 update though? 3.12 is compatible with ICS, I booted Darkforest 4.0.3 from it before upgrading to 3.24. Could be wrong though, and either way, 3.24 is smoother and more stable.
Sidenote, however, I do agree that threads like these are unnecessary. This site is XDA Developers, the members here should know a thing or two - atleast the basic stuff. If I remember correctly, registering requires you to watch a video that says exactly not to make threads like this. Follow the guides, if you're truly stuck or are afraid to advance without clarification, then post in the Q and A section. This is for general discussion and should be kept as such.

I suggested the firmware update containing h boot 1.27 upgrade because it has unlocked h boot with advanced fastboot commands. He should be super cid, it's a lot easier to flash, most of the ICS ROMs require it. 1.27 firmware also has a newer radio and ril. Reading the stickies in dev forum will teach you a lot. You need to really have an understanding of the exact processes you're doing. I see so many inexperienced users getting into a lot situations they don't know how to fix and end up with more problems. I was a noob once and read a lot and still made mistakes but by reading I learned from mistakes others before me and how they resolved them helped me not panic and I too was able to resolve my problems. I just think you really need to read as much as possible. Especially the stickies atop all of the sections.
Installing ICS is tricky, updating a firmware if done wrong or flashing the wrong combination can cause problems. Read as much as you can.

Hello guys. I am very new to Android and this rooting business.
I am having some problem. Some xda guys told in some different posts to use taco root and while bootlooping, use the revolutionary app. Now what I don't want to experiment or do is brick my first android smartphone. So, help me out guys, s-on, non root, Sen XE. I will be obliged if someone sees into this and tries the taco root and revolution. Only the Revolutionary does not work for me because I updated to HTC's latest software optimisation update.

Step 1: WHAT does the Bootloader say ?
Are you S-OFF'd ? If so have you got a custom Recovery, e.g. CWM ? If so you can just install root through the custom recovery.
Or is Revolutionary failing to S-OFF in the first place ?
Don't know what Taco Root is but then again I'm a bear of very little brain.
EDIT: looked up Taco Root, interesting. I won't try it as I'm S-OFF'd already, there must be a thread somewhere that discusses it.

In some threads there was a mention of Taco root but none of them say how safe it is. As I am only concerned about bricking my phone. I have tried Revolutionary but fails. As I have mentioned earlier, I am s-on at the moment. And I have also tried to install CWM recovery without s-off but with no luck. Can u Devs please find out how safe taco root is, because some people have got s-off by taco temp root and then s-off using Revolutionary while bootlooping.

OK best bet is to go onto the Revolutionary IRC and ask there r.e. the Revolutionary way, hopefully someone there will help. That's the best option IMHO.

No do not use HTC dev, you will not have s off. Follow the guides on how to root, super cid, etc, stickied at the very top of Sensation Developement forum. Why are looking at how to root a phone other than the one you have? This is what causes people to brick their phones.

Where do I start...

Well I just got my sensation 4g and did sone researching.... I know its been out for awhile so I was wondering where do I start... Whats the most up to date way to root ny phone (assuming theres more than one way) and whats a good rom? (I like using sense lol).

G'day champ,
Welcome back, begin with the guides provided below.
1. S-off, unlock, recovery, root & SuperCID
[Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on
2. Install the latest firmware, 3.32 is needed for the latest base.
[Firmware][Mar 30]User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24,3.30 & 3.32 Unlocked
3. Flash a ROM, Android Revolution HD(ARHD) is the most popular(for good reason)
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 6.5.5 | ICS | High Quality & Performance | 3.32.401.105
After all that, feel free to learn what you will, there's plenty to learn, it just requires reading, and problems, there's guides all over the Sensation forums, generally within the first couple of pages.
Thank you for all that. What is the firmware step for??

For what reasons exactly
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
You can root without doing supercid. Supercid is optional.
It allows you more flexibility though. Useful if you want to flash other areas/carriers rom. Personally I prefer to keep original cid.
Recently I couldn't receive ota update to ICS because I was supercid, then reverted to the original one and suddenly I received the Ota update notice.
It's up to you whether supercid or not and it's not a real concern because you can revert at anytime.
What is your current hboot version? Power off, pull battery, press & hold vol down and power to enter bootloader and read it off.
You have to check your hboot is supported by revolutionary- the tool to give you s-off.
sent from HTC Pyramid using Tapatalk
And the OTA thing... Say i update my phone..will i lose root n such..
Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
Yes you will lose everything and bootloader will become 1.27 (which is unsupported by revolutionary) Unless you have S-OFF before the update that is.
As for SuperCID, Its optional but HIGHLY recommended, As said before, it allows you to flash any firmware from any region....
If you dont have it, You MUST make sure it matches your CID or it wont boot... It can also be tricky to find one for your region (depending where you are)
It only takes a second, And its permanent and reversible
When i switch from rom to rom... Do i superwipe then flash rom everytime??
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
You can do, but its not necessary, Have a look at the installation guide for the ROM your going to flash.... Usually if you are updating the same ROM wipe isnt needed..
If you are going to a different ROM altogether, A wipe is a MUST

[Q] How to apply tar.gz files(PLS HELP)

my friend asked me that he was to update his incredible s
so i downloaded the file for him from the htc download center
how to apply this update file?
The file named vivo-2.6.35-gb-mr-f445c95e.tar.gz
I downloaded from
http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Are you sure it's an update, or is it just kernel sources?
Yep, I just extracted and it's kernel sources. I don't think you're going to do anything with that...
I m not sure with that. What do think whether is it kernel source or update and what is the difference?

It's kernel source code. You would use that as a base to compile a custom kernel for the device. Trust me, it's not what you're looking for!

That is the guide to s-off your bootloader... You cannot downgrade unless you do that first.
Can it unlock my bootliader?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e
Forget about unlocking your bootloader. This will give you s-off. Once you're s-off you can flash the GB firmware and go with either a stock or custom rom/recovery...
If you unlock your bootloader you won't have access to flash radios or kernels and cannot downgrade.
Go HERE to get GB firmware, stock GB roms, and instructions for downgrading. It's after step 5...
Thank you very much. I was having a wrong understanding that I have to unlock my bootloader to soff and install any custom Rom. Since u said we only need to soff, then I will give a try on the soff tool u linked me too.

I'm sorry to say that.. But for jb soff you do require unlocked bootloader.. also you need to be rooted which also can be done only when you have unlocked bootloader.
As for the htcdev unlock failing at flashing token with error "token check failed".. almost every person. Who has been trying this for the past few weeks has got the same error.. This might be because of either htcdev unlock is not generating the unlock_code.bin properly.. Or the ppl with recent phones /recently repaired phones have some cosemitic change in the motherboard which is causing this failure

HTC Sensation, unlocking to go on giffgaff

Hello there, I have a HTC Sensation Z710e which is from Vodafone and has all their branding and sim card locking stuff, lovely. I want to be able to take this phone and make it look like an ordinary unlocked phone so I can use whatever sim card I would like and also without the Vodafone branding on the device, I am a little scared about rooting my device and flashing new radios and ROMs A few months ago I received the update for ICS if that is of any use to anyone. If anyone has any good ideas on how I can completely make my phone completely stock it would be so appreciated.
Thank you
Jake

Hi,
The link in my signature will show you several guides to either s-off,or flash custom ROMS,whilst still s-on.
There is also a link for flashing a RUU to get stock.
Read,read read.
There's methods to unlocked your phone for free on the dev section. But your better of paying £15 to get it unlocked online. As for debranding your sensation just search xda for debranding sensation, or just root it and install a custom Rom.

Why go and pay £15 pounds when he can do it for free? After s-off he only needs to run the diagfile from the bootloader. Should give supercid as well for free and minimum hassle

you can flash whatever rom you want. read the guides and make sure you understand whats up. if your really jacked up flash an RUU, then read the guides fully and start over. no harm doing it that way. Flash a 2.3.4 RUU or and ICS RUU,

good thing you didnt do the recovery from soff ...and no need to care for bootloader unlock ..as you have much better unlocked bootloader after soff by revolutionary ...
now in general section ..go to flashing 3.33 and arhd rom thread by joaquinf (sticky in general section) ..and follow that guide to letter ..to have a working ICS ROM (post #1 and post #2 in that thread)
EDIT:and for thanks there is a thank button to say that
