sensation help ???????? :) - HTC Sensation

Hi ...Iam new at rooting my sensation and I a little confused with upgrading firmware for ics
I have an htc sensation 4g (tmobile) S-off , hboot 1.23.0000 , radio 10.14.9035.01, cid t-mobo10 , mid pg5810000 ,4ext recovery touch and Iam trying to install extreme sensation ics ..
I appreciate your help THX

If you're new to the phone and flashing it why not read the op in the ROM thread? All of the instructions are there. First of all you need to flash firmware to 1.27 h boot so you can get super cid. AFAIK you don't have advanced fastboot commands on 1.23. Read the op so you don't screw up your phone.
I am not being an ass but it's getting really old with so many asking for help when the Rom threads have very detailed instructions. If you can't read the instructions or don't understand them then for your own protection you shouldn't be flashing your phone.

take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480061
and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
and watch out while messing with firmwares... you might end up with a very expensive brick

Doesn't 1.23 come with the 3.12 update though? 3.12 is compatible with ICS, I booted Darkforest 4.0.3 from it before upgrading to 3.24. Could be wrong though, and either way, 3.24 is smoother and more stable.
Sidenote, however, I do agree that threads like these are unnecessary. This site is XDA Developers, the members here should know a thing or two - atleast the basic stuff. If I remember correctly, registering requires you to watch a video that says exactly not to make threads like this. Follow the guides, if you're truly stuck or are afraid to advance without clarification, then post in the Q and A section. This is for general discussion and should be kept as such.

I suggested the firmware update containing h boot 1.27 upgrade because it has unlocked h boot with advanced fastboot commands. He should be super cid, it's a lot easier to flash, most of the ICS ROMs require it. 1.27 firmware also has a newer radio and ril. Reading the stickies in dev forum will teach you a lot. You need to really have an understanding of the exact processes you're doing. I see so many inexperienced users getting into a lot situations they don't know how to fix and end up with more problems. I was a noob once and read a lot and still made mistakes but by reading I learned from mistakes others before me and how they resolved them helped me not panic and I too was able to resolve my problems. I just think you really need to read as much as possible. Especially the stickies atop all of the sections.
Installing ICS is tricky, updating a firmware if done wrong or flashing the wrong combination can cause problems. Read as much as you can.

Hello guys. I am very new to Android and this rooting business.
I am having some problem. Some xda guys told in some different posts to use taco root and while bootlooping, use the revolutionary app. Now what I don't want to experiment or do is brick my first android smartphone. So, help me out guys, s-on, non root, Sen XE. I will be obliged if someone sees into this and tries the taco root and revolution. Only the Revolutionary does not work for me because I updated to HTC's latest software optimisation update.

Step 1: WHAT does the Bootloader say ?
Are you S-OFF'd ? If so have you got a custom Recovery, e.g. CWM ? If so you can just install root through the custom recovery.
Or is Revolutionary failing to S-OFF in the first place ?
Don't know what Taco Root is but then again I'm a bear of very little brain.
EDIT: looked up Taco Root, interesting. I won't try it as I'm S-OFF'd already, there must be a thread somewhere that discusses it.

In some threads there was a mention of Taco root but none of them say how safe it is. As I am only concerned about bricking my phone. I have tried Revolutionary but fails. As I have mentioned earlier, I am s-on at the moment. And I have also tried to install CWM recovery without s-off but with no luck. Can u Devs please find out how safe taco root is, because some people have got s-off by taco temp root and then s-off using Revolutionary while bootlooping.

OK best bet is to go onto the Revolutionary IRC and ask there r.e. the Revolutionary way, hopefully someone there will help. That's the best option IMHO.

No do not use HTC dev, you will not have s off. Follow the guides on how to root, super cid, etc, stickied at the very top of Sensation Developement forum. Why are looking at how to root a phone other than the one you have? This is what causes people to brick their phones.

[Q] Please can ANYBODY help me with these RUUs!!!

Ok, i habe hboot 1.23 and so i cannot flash any new firmware files via hboot or cmd prompt. Unfortunately I also have s-on, what some friends suggested is to try and use RUU files to change the hboot but I ALWAYS get an 'Unknown error:155' on whichever RUU i try (i am SuperCid), and no HTCdev is not a solution! it does not give s-off. Can anybody PLEASE tell me what to do, I am really desperate as I want to switch back to ICS roms as after using them for so long I hate GB roms ( no offence to any chefs). Please anything at all, I've asked this exact same question before but despite getting 200+ views, nobody answered, I'm really desperate!
boot to bootloader and fire up the RUU.exe
That's what I have been doing, from fastboot option in the bootloader.
Does it change to fastboot USB when you plug the phone in ?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk
yes it does.
Do you run the ruu as admin?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk
Yes I do. I right click and choose run as admin and it asks for rights and I click allow.
Please stop starting so many threads asking for help with the same issue. Your question has been answered more than once and it's well known that you cannot flash any RUU because you are s on with 1.23 h boot. You continue to open threads rephrasing the same question. Currently there is no way for you to achieve s off or change your h boot version. Sorry about your situation, no one can help you because there's no solution.

H'm ok I was just trying the tacoroot method by musaraf because like he said, I have no other option.
Just saw your hboot. Never flash test ruus on a s on device... I guess you understand now why we say that...

I just want to know, with the OTA update of ics will revolutionary update to match it? And why can't I run any ics roms that are on 3.12 firmware because k know I am and I flash their unsecured boot.img files.
I don't think we will know until the official release what h boot version is going to come with the update. We will have to wait and see. Best to try to contact the revolutionary team through there site and ask them.

G'day champ,
Welcome back, begin with the guides provided below.
1. S-off, unlock, recovery, root & SuperCID
[Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on
2. Install the latest firmware, 3.32 is needed for the latest base.
[Firmware][Mar 30]User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24,3.30 & 3.32 Unlocked
3. Flash a ROM, Android Revolution HD(ARHD) is the most popular(for good reason)
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 6.5.5 | ICS | High Quality & Performance | 3.32.401.105
After all that, feel free to learn what you will, there's plenty to learn, it just requires reading, and problems, there's guides all over the Sensation forums, generally within the first couple of pages.
Thank you for all that. What is the firmware step for??

For what reasons exactly
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
You can root without doing supercid. Supercid is optional.
It allows you more flexibility though. Useful if you want to flash other areas/carriers rom. Personally I prefer to keep original cid.
Recently I couldn't receive ota update to ICS because I was supercid, then reverted to the original one and suddenly I received the Ota update notice.
It's up to you whether supercid or not and it's not a real concern because you can revert at anytime.
What is your current hboot version? Power off, pull battery, press & hold vol down and power to enter bootloader and read it off.
You have to check your hboot is supported by revolutionary- the tool to give you s-off.
sent from HTC Pyramid using Tapatalk
And the OTA thing... Say i update my phone..will i lose root n such..
Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
Yes you will lose everything and bootloader will become 1.27 (which is unsupported by revolutionary) Unless you have S-OFF before the update that is.
As for SuperCID, Its optional but HIGHLY recommended, As said before, it allows you to flash any firmware from any region....
If you dont have it, You MUST make sure it matches your CID or it wont boot... It can also be tricky to find one for your region (depending where you are)
It only takes a second, And its permanent and reversible
When i switch from rom to rom... Do i superwipe then flash rom everytime??
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
You can do, but its not necessary, Have a look at the installation guide for the ROM your going to flash.... Usually if you are updating the same ROM wipe isnt needed..
If you are going to a different ROM altogether, A wipe is a MUST

if you have hboot version 1.27.0000 then u will have to wait. JuopunutBear has made a S-OFF version you can go and check it in the Developement section!
If you have the S-offable version, please refer to my signature below for a Noob's guide to rooting and flashing ROM cheers~
It's 1.27, does that mean it is unrootable ATM?

Only way is to downgrade using an RUU to gingerbread, root it, flash custom recovery, use voodoo ota rootkeeper, flash stock recovery, update to ICS again. Restore root using voodoo, flash custom recovery and flash the rooting tools in Mike's stock Rom thread.
No direct way to root it yet though.

Flashing custom rom without s-off

Hi, I want to ask if any of you guys flashing custom rom into device that still s-on but rooted. I'm doing this to my device cause its very hard to me to get the s-off. We need to do short circuit thingy I guess (HTC Sensation XE). My concern here that I'm afraid flashing custom rom to s-on device can harm or brick my device as the developer said to do so. Pls give your opinion. Thx.

What do you mean by doing extra step 1#? Unlocking using HTCDev? Ive done before. But if you say to unlocking HTCDev every time I flashed new rom. Is such a pain. OR, Is that anyway it can be lock again? Coz before this wifi thingy happen ive flash many rom & kernel. I think this cause my wifi not functioning. Sorry Im totaly lost now. Sorry also coz being noob here. My bad.
Thanks in advance. Really need a guide for solving this. FYI I got 2 Sensation XE. The other is just fine with the custom rom. But this one is gave me so much trouble.

escpecially in S-ON devices after flashing a custom rom if the smartflash feature(4ext recovery) fails(you notice that when the device is trying to boot the rom and it is bootlooping)then the only option is to flash the boot.img of the rom manually
Not true!!!

I am still S-ON and I flash whatever roms I like. It is very difficult to hard brick your phone if you're S-ON. If however you're S-OFF, you can potentially screw up your phone. So no worries about bricking if you're S-ON (unless you do something really really naughty!!!).

you can flash whatever rom you want. read the guides and make sure you understand whats up. if your really jacked up flash an RUU, then read the guides fully and start over. no harm doing it that way. Flash a 2.3.4 RUU or and ICS RUU,

good thing you didnt do the recovery from soff ...and no need to care for bootloader unlock ..as you have much better unlocked bootloader after soff by revolutionary ...
now in general section ..go to flashing 3.33 and arhd rom thread by joaquinf (sticky in general section) ..and follow that guide to letter ..to have a working ICS ROM (post #1 and post #2 in that thread)
EDIT:and for thanks there is a thank button to say that
