CM7 has this feature and I'm sure CM9 will eventually.
That would be great. Cm7 actually had a way to rwmap the buttons for a long press?
ns4g via xda app
using the button remapper app, i remapped it to function like a power button. short press search - screen off, long press search - power menu, long press search + volume down - screenshots.

Yeah or just normal press. But like the post above, there are apps which will do that for you.
Try launch key from the market. Its a green hand with finger pointing north. A couple options but not overbuilt. Hope that helps.

My question is can I have my search key turned into a recent apps button... I know u can remap keys for other functions, but can u set them to perform a long-press function with just a short press?
ns4g via xda app
It does have that option, but when I tested it on my phone ( nexus s ics Cm9 a18) it forced closed.
Normally I have it setup to start an app with long press of search key and I never have a problem.

There is a simple method that requires you to edit the "cypress-touchkey.kl" file located at /system/usr/keylayout. I used Root Explorer
To do this.
Once you navigate to that directory where the file is stored you need to click Mount R/W for write permissions and then edit the file. You need to change the last line that says "SEARCH" to "APP_SWITCH". Once you save the file, the change should be automatic (no need to reboot). Root explorer will make a backup of your original file, so don't worry if you somehow screw up.
I should point out this only brings up the old Gingerbread style recent apps screen and not the new honeycomb/ics style one. No one has found the key code for that yet.
Anyways, enjoy!

That app doesn't unify the volume controls. It does make them easier to access but i'm looking for a unifier. I've searched around but for some reason i don't see any threads about this.

Thanks. I'm not really looking for a unified menu i'm looking for master volume control with the rocker switches. I did find Master Volume Controller which allows the rocker switches to control all volumes. Its a little rough though. Is there anything better that anyone knows about?

Otherwise you can use progs like circular battery but they goes on the left as a notification

Other alternatives?
Are there other alternatives aside from Button Savior and zSmooth? I've used both and each has pros and cons. Currently I prefer Button Savior. I'm just wondering if there are other apps that do the same thing.

REQ: Customize icon for remapped button
Thank you. Very useful app.
Especially when holding a tablet in portrait mode Android's back button has a very unconvenient position.
I remapped the call-button to a dictionary. It would be a nice feature to show the app icon instead of the standard icon.
Is there an app or a hack that will allow just a "single tap" on the unlock screen to unlock it?
I am currently using NO lock screen (NOLOCK) which works fine but sometimes causes pocket dialing.

That's a good start, thank you, but due to a physical handicap tapping a 4.5" screen on any spot is much easier than hitting that small spot.

I see, so you have to tap the LOCK ICON. That's getting closer to what I need but what I really need is to be able to TAP ANYWHERE on the lockscreen to unlock like my iPhone did. Due to severe rheumatoid arthritis in my hands the larger the target the easier it is to hit the spot which is why I like the larger 4.5" screen.
Sorry, nm...

Maybe I am misunderstanding you. That "LOCK" ICON between the sliders, is that what you use to unlock your screen? If so I can't figure out how to get that. I went through every menu and every ICON and see nothing like it. It's driving me crazy.
I still think your best bet is the no lock screen. Even if you have tap to unlock you'd be just as likely to have a pocket dial, if it's just one extra tap anywhere to unlock...
So the X has back, home, and recents capacitive buttons but not the "options" button.
Most apps create an options bar at the bottom of the screen. Is this something that can be disabled?

From the looks of it, some apps haven't updated to the new holo design scheme. Some apps need to make use of the action bar a little better. Look at gmail and google maps for reference. If you don't like it there's a possibility to remap the menu key to long pressing the home key (it's been done on the international one x).
I personally hate it! It takes up too much real estate
We need to get a ROM ASAP that remaps the menu button to long-press multitasking or something and then get rid of the onscreen button!
Now if only we could get a bootloader unlock/root...

App developers just haven't taken the time to optimize the apps yet, just a month ago ICS was a huge minority, and it still is, but with more and more phones being released with ics, we'll see optimized apps, and the weird soft key will go away.
The long press home idea is great, btw.

Hi,
this might be a dump question, but how do I create a new thread using the XDA app on my transfomer running ICS? I don't have a menu-button; this is how I would create a new thread in a forum on my HTC Sensation. I don't see any other button to create a new thread ... replying is no prob.
Thx.
It looks like you need XDA Premium or Premium HD to post new threads.
I just use Tapatalk 2.0 and it covers all of my forums. The XDA apps are just a skinned Tapatalk that can only access one forum.
Well,on my HTC Sensation I can post new threads without any prob. Just don't know how to on the Asus.

Using Tapatalk I hit the menu button. On the XDA Free app there is no menu button. Even hitting the Menu button on the keyboard dock does not get it to pop up.
Not sure what to tell ya. I guess try either the premium app or Tapatalk.
Hmm, ok. Thx.
I was just confused, because on my Sensation I get the menu when pressing the menu-button. Well, I suppose I can't open new threads on the Transformer.
