[APP] Button Savior - Android Apps and Games

While my back and menu button died some days ago I've found myself lost with an almost unusable SGS
Luckily a market search saved my life. This apps puts floating on screen buttons even for those buttons not implemented on SGS

You need to apply a theme so your phone had to be rooted ifa you want it on the right side of bar
Otherwise you can use progs like circular battery but they goes on the left as a notification

Other alternatives?
Are there other alternatives aside from Button Savior and zSmooth? I've used both and each has pros and cons. Currently I prefer Button Savior. I'm just wondering if there are other apps that do the same thing.

Softkeys is another one.

updated to: 1.1.4
Dev is extremely responsive. He added the other button locations and also cleaned up the button thing.
Please respond on his blog for additional things you want.
I've asked for ability to change size of buttons and spacing between buttons.
I've asked for the ability to change the location of the [x] amd the [...] buttons.
(see my comments on the 1.1.3 release blog entry (i'm Rich <- the user))

REQ: Customize icon for remapped button
Thank you. Very useful app.
Especially when holding a tablet in portrait mode Android's back button has a very unconvenient position.
I remapped the call-button to a dictionary. It would be a nice feature to show the app icon instead of the standard icon.

For all you TouchWiz Launcher fans, XDA member’s Fr4gg0r & Swiftwork have developed a modified version that works with “Every device with armv7 processor and froyo or higher.“ Some of the great features included in this modified version of TW include:
App Drawer
Number of apps per page
Number of app columns
Sort order (normal/alphabetical, alphabetical will be forced after reboot/changing from normal to alphabetical)
Enable/disable app backdrops
Enable/disable 3D effect for backdrops
Badge Counter
enable/disable unread g-mail counter (specify accounts to show counter for)
enable/disable unread sms counter or Samsung Counter
Themes
You can combine themes (e.g. a full theme and then apply just a dock theme)
EXTRA Stuff:
Resizing for all widgets enabled (long press widget and then drop it without moving)
Scrolling widgets are supported (currently not recommended to use though, lags when scrolling)

[App] Swiftkey Tablet X released!

I am not in anyway related to Swiftkey company but just thought I will share this with all the SGT lovers here. This is built specifically for tablet only.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey.tablet.full&feature=search_result
I have yet to test it and i'm going to purchase it now! It costs about close to $3 USD.

right i don't usually read the general section as there's too much crap there.
And the fact that the thread in General section is about the phone version not the tablet version released today.

I noticed the same behavior. The number pad in the middle also doesn't appear on any setting for me on my tab. I was going to put in a feature request/bug report with them to see if we can get better 7 in support.
I didn't get the numpad attached like the picture below in my GTab,is it bug or happened to you guys too?

What I have dreamed of (from Swifkey.net "reviews" section):
=>engadget.jpg
What I can see on the market :
=>ss-1280-0-0.jpg
What I really get on my GT :
=>IMAG0081.jpg
- No numeric pad
- No arrow keys
- No apostrophe key
- Central spacebar not fully fonctionnal (see on this pic, marked zones of the space bar are unresponsive)
If anybody knows which version of Swiftkey contains the first layout of this post, please tell me !!!!

yes i was talking about that. at the extreme ends it doesn't work. i have short thumbs so when i type fast, i can only reach the extreme ends of the spacebar.. and it doesn't respond -.-
Maybe they will correct this, someday :
http://support.swiftkey.net/forums/...-bar-touch-area-smaller-than-skin-makes-it-lo
keyboard pics seen on Engadget does not look to the one on the Market and considering date pics, it seems that they had developed it on Galaxy tab with Froyo so may be there are some bugs with Gingerbread as with HTC Flyer.

CM7 has this feature and I'm sure CM9 will eventually.
That would be great. Cm7 actually had a way to rwmap the buttons for a long press?
ns4g via xda app
using the button remapper app, i remapped it to function like a power button. short press search - screen off, long press search - power menu, long press search + volume down - screenshots.

Yeah or just normal press. But like the post above, there are apps which will do that for you.
Try launch key from the market. Its a green hand with finger pointing north. A couple options but not overbuilt. Hope that helps.

My question is can I have my search key turned into a recent apps button... I know u can remap keys for other functions, but can u set them to perform a long-press function with just a short press?
ns4g via xda app
It does have that option, but when I tested it on my phone ( nexus s ics Cm9 a18) it forced closed.
Normally I have it setup to start an app with long press of search key and I never have a problem.

There is a simple method that requires you to edit the "cypress-touchkey.kl" file located at /system/usr/keylayout. I used Root Explorer
To do this.
Once you navigate to that directory where the file is stored you need to click Mount R/W for write permissions and then edit the file. You need to change the last line that says "SEARCH" to "APP_SWITCH". Once you save the file, the change should be automatic (no need to reboot). Root explorer will make a backup of your original file, so don't worry if you somehow screw up.
I should point out this only brings up the old Gingerbread style recent apps screen and not the new honeycomb/ics style one. No one has found the key code for that yet.
Anyways, enjoy!

Awesome. Thanks a ton developersdevelopers! I'll try it out but I really want the ics style recent apps function. Is it weird that they haven't found the code...?

[MOD] MIUI style battery bar with stock battery % removed

Disclamer Stuff
You need to be Deodexed to use for now unless someone tests on .odex and confirms working.
Always make a nandroid before testing!!
First off this mod is combined with the last toggle version i made for my phone. So at the momment you get both combined.
I can add it to other versions if people are using those just have to pm me.
I removed the Normal Battery % next to the clock
(not really removed but i replaced it with a 1x1 blank pixel)
there are two versions
1) with bar along top of status bar
2) with bar along bottom of status bar

All credit belongs to pvyParts his Tutorial here if you want to add to your own.
He also has a App Version no modding or flashing Required Here App version does run a extra Procsess in background but has added benefit of being onscreen fulltime if you use apps that are always fullscreen.
I have been waiting to unlock and root for the battery bar, now for voiding my warranty

Confirmed deodexed only. Crashes systemui if odexed.

Only way to get rid of a virus on android is to factory reset it, if you are unable to reset it normally you can go into recovery mode and from there you can Reset.
The "You Need Antivirus" dialogue itself is just an advertisement. You probably installed an application recently that keeps making Ad shortcuts on your homescreen. And all these ads are just slowing your phone down. What app did you install before this started to happen? Try deleting the most recent installed apps and see if it fixes the problem!
Please press the thanks button if i helped!

hmm well you need to rememeber what app you installed around the time you began seeing the ads. If you can't remember then try using "Ad-Network Scanner & Detector" from the Play Store. It will probably help you identify the application causing these Ads
