So, I finally got myself a transformer (B60). Used it for about a week, and decided i wanted to root it. I read around to make sure I wasn't going to bork my device. Rooted it just fine using razorclaw since i was on .19. I installed CWM with RecoveryInstaller, rebooted to recovery (using an app) and flashed this.
I played around with it a little more, and turned it off for the night. When i turned it back on this morning, my root seems to be gone. The superuser.apk is still installed, but every app that tries to request root says that I'm not rooted. If i go into terminal emulator, I can verify that busybox is installed, but when i try to SU, i get
Code:
reloc_library[1315]: 1038 cannot locate '_mktemp'...
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
Does anyone know a way to fix this? Since I'm now on .21 do to flashing the pre-rooted update is there a way to root .21?
Edit: Key thing i may be missing... is there a way to get back to CWM via hardware buttons? On my phone it's just camera + volume down and power. Does the volume down + power allow me to get into CWM? The options i saw were i believe wipe data and boot into android...
You could try re-rooting the tablet with Root Toolkit and see if it works.
If you actually had CWM installed, power + vol down at boot will bring you to CWM

I had CWM installed, but when i use the volume down + power i get a message asking me if i want to go into RCK and then it gives me 2 options wipe data or boot into android.
DOH!!!! That did it. Didn't realize that RCK meant CWM Thanks, i should be able to get things working from here hopefully. I know my way around CWM enough.
Edit: Apparently what I thought would fix the issue, didn't. I think there might be an incompatibility with the pre-rooted rom and the way i rooted?
I do think so, last option available is re-root

If you can still get into CWM recovery you have options to flash custom ROM or even the 8.6.5.21 rooted rom

Awesome, will the universal rootkit still work then? From what I've read .21 is a no root scenario.
Edit: Per this post, i should be good to go.
I also lost root when I upgraded to the latest rooted OTA. I get the same error as the OP in terminal emulator. I am going to give it a couple days and see if there is a fixed update and then I will probably just flash the full rooted rom.

I'm on a B60 and I was able to use the universal root v7.1. This fixed the loss of root just fine.

So here's the deal. I'm running CM9Alpha13. And while I love having my phone rooted and playing around with it, I was really only interested in getting ICS for my phone. No I know I'll miss Francisco.Franco's kernels and I'll miss Koush's awesome ROMs but I just really want a stable ICS.
So my question is how long before I can root my ICS if I do the official downgrade to GB and Upgrade to ICS?
Any guestimate would be great!
Thanks in advance.
Jon
I am sure it wont take long...just give the devs a day or so to play with things and get everything worked out.

Confirmed that this worked on Google issued phone (same as T-Mobile version). The following is the order I used to come from CM9 Alpha 11:
1. Backup using Titanium, reboot to recovery.
2. Use CWM to flash stock 2.3.6.
3. Use CWM to flash stock ICS 4.0.3.
4. Wipe all user data.
5. Install the linked superuser through CWM (I had previous tried older and newer versions, which did not work).
6. Reboot phone, go through setup, download Titanium, and restore. Phone is definitely rooted (otherwise Titanium is unusable). I did not try to update the su binaries and will avoid doing so.
any way to root with something like superoneclick?
I'd like to avoid flashing custom stuff on it. just need root.

Then fastboot boot recovery and flash the latest su zip. Even if you flashed the custom recovery it would be overwritten when you boot up the os.
Hello everyone
I own a Nexus s I9020 T-mobile. and I'm using it on Vodafone.
My power button stopped working a month back and I'm using widgetlocker lockscreen to unlock.
I did not receive the OTA for ICS last month and i would like to have it on my phone by doing the update manually.
Is there a way to do the update manually with a broken power button ?
Thanks
There is a clockwork recovery with touchscreen interface I can't remember where I saw it though. So you could use that to flash the ota. Or you could flash the boot and system images directly through adb if they have been posted somewhere. You will have to root your phone before you can use these methods

thanks .. but I think the touch based clockwork recovery is only avilable for Galaxy Nexus and more over I dont want to root my phone unless it is absolutely necessary .. because i'll have to re-install all my apps
is there any possible way to do it without rooting ?
The Clockwork Recovery you are looking for is named TWRP (latest is Version 2.0.0). Look at the offical site - http://teamw.in/project/twrp2 - choose your device (NS or NS4G) and install via adb
Good luck

You don't need to flash TWRP. In clockwork mod recovery back is back, menu is down, search is select, home is up.

even to flash ClockworkMod or TWRP, first you will need to unlock the bootloader right ?
for this again the need for power button arises..
Hi All,
Problem with TF700 with JB, rooted but not unlocked. I cannot enter into stock recovery: after volDown - volUP I have dead droid with red triangle. I think this my mistake: after was rooted in ICS .26, not unlocked, I tryed to install GooManager - after that I cannot enter to recovery in ICS. After that JB OTA installation was no problem, i backup and restore root, but still not have recovery.
So, now I have root in JB and can you point me to answer, how I can return stock recovery without unlock?
Thank you!

This relates to same problem I have . See cannot open recovery in JB in this same QA forum a little further back. I get the icons and when I pick recovery I get to Red triangle Andy but then no matter what combo of buttons pushed nothing happens. In my thread I was given a solution but I am locked but rooted and I believe had to be unlocked to use it. My question is can you get to recovery with a locked rooted tab to wipe cache etc . I can no longer get to that menu.

I think what buhohitr was saying is that RCK is a recovery that you can only boot into when there is an update file waiting to be updated on the microSD card. Otherwise, it does nothing but give you that Android with the Red Triangle.
I can confirm this on JB, never tried it while still on ICS.

It seems that the only solution is to unlock and put a custom recovery on . Unfortunately for me I did not unlock for warranty reasons and I updated to .30 and JB OTA and now it seems I have painted myself into a corner since I did not do nvflash or unlock downloads before accepting .30 and JB OTA. It appears ICS stock recovery is gone. Thanks for responses in this and my other thread Tom

No, you're not corner, you can easily downgrade from JB to .30 (download full version from Asus site), root your device, install superSU then save root with Voodoo OTA root keeper, then upgrade to JB through OTA, restore root using Voodoo OTA root keeper and you all set.

Definitely, the reboot during the install back into recovery is what confused a lot of us who were part of the soak test and tried to apply it manually ourselves.
When you first go into recovery and install the OTA, it will reboot. At that point, it will boot back to the recovery screen. There, you must press volume up + power. That is different from the old vol up+ vol down.
Anyways, once you are back in the "hard to read" recovery (why did they reduce the brightness on the new recovery?), you need to go back and install the OTA again. This time it will continue on where it left off and apply the KK update to your system.
Profit!

Thanks. Just a couple more questions before I do this to make sure I don't send my phone back into oblivion and have to start all over again. Is the CWM recovery specific to any particular version of Android, current one available for XT926 on clockworkmod.com download page is 6.0.4.4. Similarly, does SU need to be specific to this phone/KitKat rom?
I've rooted numerous phones before, always using a script like Razr Hd utility. This is my first attempt at manual root so I appreciate your patience

Then you cannot use CWM and there is no safe strap for KK.
Also, root is now lost, but SamuriHL is working on a theory that might work. Unfortunately, it requires locked phones that have NOT taken the soak or OTA yet and we have to wait for the official KK FXZ image file before he can continue. If the phone has had the OTA or soak applied to it, then it can't be part of the test.

you know what, color me stupid.
I've been helping so many people that when I read "no root", I interpreted it as "locked bootloader".
My bad.
My v10 downloaded an OTA , which im assuming is 6.0
1. Im rooted on stock 6.0 and unlocked boot loader. Will the OTA work without messing up anything ? Ill have to root again im sure, just want some info before i pull the trigger.
I don't think the update will even proceed being that you're on a rooted ROM. I have that notification too, and i just don't know how to turn it off.
I to am rooted, unlockboot and stock rom. I don't feel like taking a chance. So I used titanium backup to freeze the software update and in the drop down notification if you press it, it's a notification from Google play services if you block it in apps it will disappear from your drop down. Okay, I'm assuming you are on H90120e (system version). There is a root exploit for the H90120j update. You just do the following:
Make a backup of your apps and settings
Flash your phone to the new update (H90120j)?
Take a look at either one of these threads to root your device again:

OR

You can't flash the phone that is already rooted and has TWRP.
I am in this same situation. On stock rom with root and twrp. I want to update to the new update, but do not want to loose all my apps, settings, etc.
Question is, how to do the initial update before having to re-root again?
How do we flash the phone with the new update?

Why can't you flash the phone that is already rooted and has TWRP?
All you are doing is opening the LGUP tool and flashing the new H90120j .kdz file using the "refurbish" option then flashing the H90120j .tot file that has TWRP using the "update" option which will flash the phone regardless of what is running on your phone. The guides on the first link explain that. I believe your concern is keeping all of your settings and apps. Look up Titanium backup, it works for me.
Thank you. I only flash the LGH901AT-01-V20j-310-260-JUL-12-2016-ARB02+0ROOTTWRP tot file and all is good.
Well except that I lost Dolby audio.
I will look for a fix.

Hi,
Do I have to use LGUP to install the update or can I click install on the dropdown of my phone?
I'm on stock MM 6.0 (H90120e) Rooted and I will not have access to my main PC for another week as I'm traveling.
Thanks,
-NJ
Anyone?

There's a guide in general that tells how to do all this. In fact jun19inf WROTE it.
In a nutshell, do a twrp backup.
Upgrade to 20j by flashing the stock 20j kbz.
Enable usb debugging and oem unlock
flash tot that has twrp in it.
Now you can go into twrp and 1) root via supersu 2) restore ONLY data from your twrp backup taken previously to get your apps etc back. Alternatively Titanium Backup will also do just fine.

If all is you have is root, you should be able to unroot in the SuperSU settings, and then let the update install. But if you have TWRP, then I can't see any way to do the update without using a PC to flash your phone back to stock ROM and recovery. Although you may check the dev. section to see if Eliminator has a flashable ROM to bring you up to date.

Hi all. I just got my factory warranty back and I attempted to root it. Everything went as it should, until just after the install finished. Instead of rebooting normally, it now will only reboot into TWRP. Once there, when I try to flash a custom ROM (in this case, Bliss, but I don't think it matters, I get an error message that says the zip file is corrupt. Then, while still in recovery, when I tried to wipe everything except the sd card, it says mkfs.fat process ended with error. I then powered down and attempted the factory reset. I scrolled down on both screens and it did not say anything about any errors, so I assumed it took. However, it reboots right back into TWRP recovery. It also boots right to TWRP recovery when I try to boot normally. Of course, adb does not recognize the phone in any mode that I can get into (fastboot/recovery/download), so, I can't use LG Bridge to reflash the original firmware. Does anybody have any ideas for a fix? I know that this replacement phone had 6.0 on it. I thought I did everything to a t? TIA...
OK, not sure how I got there, but when I attempt to reboot from TWRP it says No OS Installed! Are you sure you want to reboot? That at least says what the problem is. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Where can I download the update file?

Did you select refurbish or upgrade?
I believe you need to select upgrade when flashing or you get stuck in TWRP

How to root V10 T-mobile M.M ver V20L
How to root V10 T-mobile M.M ver V20L
Can some one guide me on the following:
1. Can I flash back and downgrade to Software version V20J from V20L.
2. Is there any root method for V10 t-mobile MM ver V20L.
1. It is well explained in this forum, you CANNOT go back without facing a software brick.
2. You can root your phone through Dirty_Cow method or by flash Eliminater74 ROM (Part1 & Part2).
Again, search for that in this section and in development one...
