So I used to have the i777 and swapped to the skyrocket for the big screen and LTE but have been disappointed ever since switch
Phone calls sound muffled and static filled on both ends of call.
Graphics are not as.vibrant
Music quality and suffered as well.
I use my phone for a couple reasons.
1. Music
2. Internet
3. Customization
Internet is beast mode with LTE
But music quality call quailty and graphics are not to standards.
There are no good ROMs like "UnNamed" for the i777
No good kernals. To fix these handicap's

Been running DaG'S 0.3 kernel for 7 weeks..no problems..
Go with your precious 777 .. it really is better because all the internet huggers say it is.. i mean it has really cool roms and since all of our roms suck and the phone just sucks.. I have had this phone for almost 2 months now.. no issues that you are saying, but I am a grown man and don't play games and stress over " not enough roms" out.. Life does go on.
One more note on the kernel's.. with my "bad" kernel as you say.. I always get 4000+ quadrant.. 6800 Antu with a stock rom overclock, but that is with my horrible Snapdragon proc. The Almighty 777 is far superior to mine

Had a chance to test the two side by sode again yesterday. locations where call quality was an issue on the skyrocket they were equally present on the org. "bars" appeared that the org had a much better signal full compared to 2 on the sr....a quick check with a signal meter app showed signal strength was actually about 10% stronger on the skyrocket.
Everything ran faster/smoother or equal on every real world test i put the phones through.
Blacks were deeper on the org...colors more saturated. could really only see the difference with the phones side by side touching each other
In the end ....I am in a strong lte market and the LTE is plenty enough for me to be happy with the skyrocket.

What do you all mean by "The Audio Sucks?" Seems to be okay for me, but then again 99% of the time I use the audio is with headphones. Doesn't sound any better or worse than my Nexus One did. The speaker audio doesn't seem to sound that bad either, being a bit better than the N1.

Its the yamaha sound chip in this phone that many blame if I recall correctly
I however believe it is software related. on a few roms its litterally 10 times better.
Keep in mind "the audio sucks" ...on the stock rom. the sound is severely distorted and just plain nasty

Sir you are not alone.. two of my friends have the skyrocket... when i talk to both of them...suddenly their voice sounds very muffeled and electrified(?) ... theyve gone and exchanged phones for new ones and the same problem still persists... im thinking its not just a "bad phone" as both of my friends have gotten two brand new phones... any others??

Hm.. the muffled effect starts unpredictably.. sometimes the call would be fine, but at times it would just act weird.. its really annoying.. just wondering.. you guyd have heard no complaints at all from tge receiving end people?? How long do you normally stay on a call for?

i also have the same problem here. people say they can't understand me but with the headset all is good. stock rom.
I have stayed on the phone for hours with these women .....I have not had one complaint about muffled/distorted audio. In fact some even say the clarity is great.
U know new relationships on the phone all night even have to plug it up to keep talking....I'm not into that but women love that...Long story short I HAVE NOT HAD ANY COMLAINTS.

I too, have a low post count. However I'm on XDA almost daily since July '10 (finally "joined in Oct '10). That doesn't make us idiots, BUT the low post count does make people suspect. You gotta earn your respect so to speak....
Anyways, I come from the Captivate and after comparing both OGS2 and the Skyrocket side by side, I ended up paying the extra for the Skyrocket.
I ran about every ROM available for the Captivate and I gotta say the stock rooted SR is head and shoulders better than any ROM on the SGS Captivate (im talking FUNCTION and leaving the wallpapers and flashy stuff out of it). I haven't seen any of the issues the OP is complaining about. Sound and call quality has been outstanding. The screen is great, it sometimes seems a bit washed out compared to the Voodoo compatible kernels on the SGS. I'm sure some kernels will show up (they may already be out there - I'm still stock) that will make the screen "pop". Remember how much better voodoo color made the amoled screen on the first Gen SGS?
This phone is truly a great device. But remember - nothing is perfect. If it was, we'd never need an upgrade.
Enjoy your SR and remember what we all had 3-4 years ago.

I wish to buy a smartphone with qwerty keyboard incl numeric row. I am using Nokia Communicator e90. Tried HTC HD2 which has no keyboard. Came back to e90.
My requirements are qwerty keyboard with numeric row, landscape, good network signal reception, good sound quality including loudspeaker, good sms functionality, good PIM incl good Contacts ( I have 5000 contacts)
What are the Actual User experiences on above points? Are there any detailed reviews?

Recording calls? Never tried that but in nyc i do get good reception , and the keyboard is the best one on a android phone, the battery life is ok , and sound quality is loud mind you (in my case i must have the voice call on max since during a call you can't change the volume setting in call) i am not sure if anyone esle has this problem)

Really buggy phone..There's a lot of bugs and glitches and although you may experience less bugs with the custom roms its not much better. Frequent force closures and lags are what I experience regularly,occasional reboots too. The only thing I really love about this phone is the keyboard. Other than that nothing too special..
I get fc to but remeber he needs a reliable texting phone idt he going to need it as. Gaming phone, or have it as his main phone

i bought mine used about a month ago, after a week it started getting laggy (before then never had any FC btw) switched to Gingerclone v2 all lag is gone, only FC i get is when restarting launcher pro. reception is good, better then my mothers Samsung smiley (we live in the boonies) supposedly someone on here was getting 20-30 hours out of their sk, i get 12-16 hours though. sound Q is alright, iv never heard a phone speaker that blew my mind though. KB Quality is good, very responsive, only gripe about it is that it only allows 2 inputs at once, (i play alot of Emulators.)
This is my first android phone, love it so far, sure its got some bugs, and is laggy stock, but its keyboard redeems those.

PROS: Nice keyboard, fairly good battery life, that's about it.
CONS:
Very buggy, unresponsive touchscreen at times, freezes, not much development, bad layout of buttons, no support, etc.

dw9906 basically has it.
The touchscreen bug is annoying, but it is the best keyboard on t-mobile ATM.
There are some bugs on this phone but like everyone keeps saying, it has a great keyboard. And once you root and install a custom rom (I'd suggest anything by ayoteddy i.e. gingerclone or overdose) most of the bugs and issues are resolved.
As far as I'm concerned, for a phone without true gingerbread yet, the sk4g is worth it.

I don't know if you've ever owned the sidekick LX but that was one of the main reasons I got one.. Extremely fast texting, and all but like others said, the phone could be much better. Development is picking up (from what i've noticed) and looks to be promising. To be honest, i was a little disappointed when I first picked it up (due to the laggyness)
and it is my first android as well, but things should pick up. Hopefully.

Is anyone else experiencing laggier gaming? When I play 3D games like Asphalt or Modern Combat, the lag is awful after the update. I'm not totally surprised though, because I also experienced the lag phenomenon way back when I was on the Infused custom ROM. I wonder if it's something to do with Gingerbread. These makes ran smooth as butter on the stock Froyo ROM.
Loving everything else about the official update though.

I think you may need a reboot. if that doesn't work, you may need to back up your data and perform a factory reset.
other users have report this to clear up their lag.

Get advanced task manager from the market and force stop all of your apps before trying to play a game. It works for me. I use that and I do not have any lag what so ever.

I already had factory reset twice. The game lagging issue still persisted though. I got the advanced task killer and killed all my apps before running a game and it was a lot better (thanks!). I just find it interesting though that they ran smoother on Froyo. I wonder if Gingerbread manages the game running differently. It's almost like the games have less frames per second on Gingerbread (and I had the same thing on the Infused ROM as well).
On a side note, a third of my music library is now unknown... They were all perfectly labeled before. Apparently the same thing happened to a lot of Atrix users when they did their official Gingerbread update. Some of them said the problem went away on its own after a free days, so I guess I'll see how it goes.
Still loving everything else about the update though

hmmm..interesting..is your music on the phone itself or the microSD card?
there may have been some recognition issue.
you can try to take out the card if you have it on the microsd card.
boot back up.
use tibu or app manager and clear out the music data and cache
power off, and reinsert the card.
power on to see if it comes back.
if you dont have a microsd in, you can try to flush the data and cache from music app and force a new search...
i'm kinda unilateral one track minded..i have taken off useless apps data hogs and widgets off my phone. I usually dont have much running in the background esp live wp, so i dont' have lag issues.

Thanks! I'll see if that works (all of music is on the external 32 GB, but there was never an issue on Froyo and I also factory reset twice on Gingerbread, so I would imagine the phone had already had two chances to recognize it afresh :/).
Regardless, I'm still a happy child lol no more obsession over an official update
I've noticed that all of a sudden after my GB update, when i press the side lock/unlock button, it will flash whatever was left on the screen before i locked it. It only flashes for about a half of a second, but enough to see what i was doing. For instance, if i had personal information on the screen when i locked it, i can see it for a half of a second when i press the unlock button. And after that initial flash, it then prompts me for my pin/passcode and hides the screen.
Anyone else seeing this?

Please let us know if that worked.
the factory reset in cwm is not the same as the factory reset in /settings/privacy/reset...the latter one completely erases everything...everything...at least in froyo anyway.

You need to turn on screen animations under settings.
Im on zeus 5.2 which uses the uckl2 leak and once i turn on screen animations the screen goes off like "an old tv"

Take the framework.apk out of the uckl2 deodexed rom that has crt and replace it with root explorer. I have done this on mine and it works fine.

actually, i have a better idea. Odin a gb kernel like infused gb or entropy to obtain red cwm and flash a whole rom.

No. I don't believe in doing a low level format every flash. Particularly when you flash as often as me. After a reboot everything has been running well.

Video recording isn't working due to the lack of drivers. We don't have GPU-accelerated Media playback, so we can't watch certain videos or record them with the camcorder.

How would you compare AOSP with CSM version
Hey everyone,
Just curious how you'd compare the performance and battery life between the AOSP and CSM (I'm assuming CM9) Eaglesblood version?
I'm using the CSM version build 3 right now and I love it. However, it's a little bit buggy here and there (e.g., a few random restarts), and after a few days of usage is a little laggy. Has anyone compared performance between the two?
Also, my battery life has dropped significantly from the 2.3.7 Eaglesblood version I formerly had on my G2x, and I'm wondering if it's worth flashing the AOSP version instead of the CSM to regain it.
And since the AOSP version is based on stock ICS, is it still as customizable as the CSM version?

Partially true... by stock flash its at 100%. Dont use that Auto Brightness slider... that thing is buggy with the proximity/photo sensor hardware on p999 especially with ics since theres all kinds of additional gamma/flicker settings.
=>Instead, use the built-in Notification Drawer Power Widget and set your buttons to include Brightness. At the very bottom of that same list select the Brightness Modes to 25/50/75/100. Now when you tap the brightness widget it will cycle through those stages and adjust the screen + homekeys. 'Dim' is ok for pitch black bedtime stories... but itll leave you thinking your phone is OFF with any kind of sunlight nearby.

Depends on what you do with your phone. The 2.3.7 is off CM9 source. Battery life is fine for me for EB's AOSP. I actually think this runs quicker than the other ICS roms I've tried by far, but many of the features don't work. If you depend on things like camcorder and a good camera, or dislike the random FC, switch to 2.3.7 and probably wait for Build 2. I can get ~30 hours of light use before a charge, and something like half that for medium usage. But my battery's been funky the day I got it.
The only qualm I have is that my battery readings seem to fluctuate up and down randomly and charging %s are generally not correct in comparison to the Weapon G2x nandroid I switch back and forth from.
Opera Mobil, as I depend on sometimes, doesn't work, but it's a solid ROM thus far for DD. But I don't do much with it.

Its a script that when installed in CWM will low level format your phone in prep for a new rom. There is a thread in the Developer section.
two issues
I've been running this ROM since Sunday. Things I've noticed are..
...Phone reboots during calls when battery gets to about 30%
...Problems switching back to 4g after leaving WiFi area
...i've had several apps that crash or take long time to open up. But not a major issue compared to the 1st two issues.

I figured it out. When you enable it it will be 100%, but then I just locked then unlocked and it works fine. kinda funky haha

Lol, you got me! Don't know how I typoed so badly. Sorry 2.3.7 is indeed CM7. I was thinking ICS when typing as I was flashing EB's ICS-AOSP.
My wife uses this phone and has noticed the following problems:
1. Email client couldn't save picture attachment
2. The camera produces a lens fish bubble type effect
I'm considering a custom rom now to fix these issues but she likes sense and is used to it coming from desire... so I'm not sure. I also don't want to have a custom rom that needs regular updates to solve little problems like the ones we already have

I've also had no trouble saving attachments or with my picture quality. I saved a few PDFs yesterday without trouble. However, I did notice they would hang around 99% and it felt like they weren't going to finish downloading, but they finished in the background within a minute or so.
Are you guys talking about Gmail or email client. This was using the email client I had a look u can open attachment but no where to press save

This is correct, I use exchange through email app and it auto saves any attachment you open

If I'm not mistaken, by default the option chosen is not to download attachments. Obviously this setting can be changed and it saves in the Downloads folder.

I'm not so sure.. if I designed a phone I certainly wouldn't design a flagship that has a much inferior flashlight and camera to a galaxy s2 and that's a much older model
I also think sense tends to degrade itself over its life cycle as it seems to produce more bugs with time. This was very true of her last phone the desire and that can't be user error as I have 7 friends and relatives who notice different things going wrong with that model too.

An inferior flashlight? What the hell are you smoking? Do you also realize that the device is made by HTC, whereas the Galaxy S II you speak about was made by Samsung, a completely un-related company? Sheesh.
Anyways, bottom line - if you don't like the phone, or aren't happy with it: go ****ing return it instead of posting on an enthusiast forum where you're doing nothing to add to the conversation.

Considering that you don't know how to save email attachment on your phone, you probably shouldn't be talking about designing a flagship phone, because it probably won't work. There's an entire thread dedicated to 1X camera photos and no one else is having the problem you're describing. Either you have a defective phone or you're bullshitting (for lack of picture).

I have tested the LED against my S2 and the S2 is so much brighter makes for much better night shots. I've also tested both in perfect lighting outdoors at a park experimenting with different focus modes and the S2 lens makes for a much better shot too. I'm not smoking anything I have both these model phones and have the capability to test for myself. Before you rubbish me... Until you have done the same your not an enthusiast your a fan boy.
I'm happy to back claims if necessary I have the stills.

I'll try to get a photo to show off this bubble effect problem is it is usually best noticeable with photos of people with face detection on and two faces being simultaneously focused on and for that I don't want to put ourselves or friends and family here..

Sounds like maybe your wife just doesn't know how to use it. So typical, blame the manufacturer for user errors.
User freaking error. Seriously.
There's a known problem with the camera, and that's oversaturation with stock settings. -1 to saturation levels and its all good.
There's 3 levels of flashlight.brightness btw, on par with my friends GS2 I have to test with.

There is? Where do I change this? I'm using CleanROM 4.1 Lite, and I tried the obvious thing of long-pressing the flashlight quick setting, but no options came up.

Open flashlight app and with each press of the screen it will get brighter up to 3 times.

I will say one thing about AOKP, I clean installed build 5 for the first time yesterday and absolutely loved the customization options compared to CM10. However, it seemed light years behind in terms of stability, speed and overall smoothness of the experience. Then as I was editing my navbar options to add like 7 icons, one of them deleted and I couldn't access the Navbar portion of the ROM options. It would keep force closing whenever I opened that settings area. Reboots and reflashes didn't help. So now I'm back to CM10 and appreciating the stability again.

Did you try an alternate kernel? I'm using the latest leankernel and I've been on the ROM only 24 hours give or take but haven't experienced a single FC on anything, bug with anything(Minus the low audio on video recording and a few minor graphical glitches), or a reboot. I tried the Tablet UI option and went to reboot and it got stuck on the boot animation, but after a battery pull booted fine with the Tablet UI. That was the only boot that I had issues with, the rest seem lightning fast compared to CM10.
Battery life on Release 5 is far superior than CM10 lately. I lost 6% overnight where with CM10 I usually lost 15+%.
I do have a sort of complaint tho. Altering the backlighting settings under Settings>Display>Automatic Backlight>Edit other levels it gives you a minimum of 20 under the screen option where I could have sworn CM10 was a minimum of 1. I'd prefer a lower # that way I could drop down the lighting severely in the dark to save my eyes and battery lol.
Granted I haven't been on it that long but this latest release seems just as buggy if not less than CM10 for me.
(I do want to add that I am a CM10 fan too... It's the ROM that I ALWAYS end up back on after giving other ones a shot. I'm thinking I'll stick with AOKP now tho)
I'm an admitted AOKP fanboy, but it is not as stable as CM10 yet. I've had a lot of random reboots - but typically only when I'm tweaking things. Under normal usage, it has behaved well. Gotta respect the unicorn.

For the auto brightness if you look one up from edit other levels it says Screen dim level which allows you to set minimum of 1.

I just tried to use nexflix threw my Samsung mhl adapter kept doing random reboots.. I'm running milestone 1..yesterday build 4 I was running Netflix was flickering on my tv screen. Please get this fixed.

BMC, if you're still watching this thread could you look into fixing the MMS issue? In particular one cannot send a picture without the quality being degraded horribly. I've had to switch back to GoSMS so I can send pics but I don't like all the services it runs.

Anyone running it? Has it caught up to our 4.2 ROMs on here like Slim/Liquid/Carbon yet in terms of basic functionality? Build two had too many issues still.

Hey bmc, I noticed in your thread on rootz that in call volume adjustment was still listed as a bug.
I think that was fixed in cm10.1 around the time they switched to caf audio if you're trying to find the patch that fixed it.
I really want to try the auto hide navbar, just waiting for that volume fix.

funny thing is that we are using caf audio as well and still experience it, meaning that something else outside of the audio HAL seems to play a part as well. Still trying to track down what that part is and if any patch was missed for it. Also what I have done to compensate until it is fixed is I have increased the in call volume to be a reasonable level and usable. So although its not adjustable it's at a level that is decent enough for normal use.
