Hi there,
I know it's a pretty common problem, and a pretty frequent question, but my case is a little bit different from what I could find here, let me explain :
I own a TF101 (B70 or 80, so no NVFlash for me), and even though I can recharge its battery through the official cord (plugged into the AC Adapter) - meaning that the cord is working - I can't connect it to my computer.
And here's how my problem seems to be a little bit different from all the posts I've seen out there : It's not that my computer doesn't recognize the tablet, it's that the computer doesn't see it at all. There's no sound when I plug it to my computer, there's no "unrecognized device" pop-up, no "unrecognized device" in device manager either... Nothing. Everything is as if I hadn't plugged anything in.
So, yes I installed Asus whatever on my computer, that software that includes the tab's drivers. I also tried unistalling it and just install the drivers available on Asus website, I tried on my laptop before and after a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 64bits, I also tried on a desktop computer... And I tried disabling/re-enabling USB debugging as I saw on other topics, nothing worked.
It worked before though. Then I installed root, Custom Recovery and the PRIME rom, then I went back to a stock ROM because of that problem, thinking that reverting would solve the problem, which didn't.
So, now I'm on 8.6.5.21WW stock, no root, and still can't connect my TF to my computer, wtf did I do wrong, and what can I do to make it work (knowing that I can't really send it back to Asus) ?
Thank you very much, sorry for wasting your time, and sorry if I didn't express myself properly, English is not my native speech.
Have a good day.
Did you tried to reboot the tab when the cable plugged into your Desktop ?
I yes, shutdown your tab, press power on button and volume up together.
Did you hear a sound from your Desktop ?
I tried rebooting the tab while plugged in, nothing.
I tried Power + Volume up, not a single sound.
So...
1) The USB Ports on your Desktop are disable.
Try a manual new peripherals detection, if not working : Try with another Desktop...
2) Your Asus cable is faulty. I've notice that your Tab charging well with this cable, but that not seems that the cable is not damage for the Data.
Can you try with another cable ?
1) Well that's the thing, I tried on 2 different computers and it doesn't work. I tried on every USB port of both computers (and these USB ports are working, plugging my mouse, usb key and external HDD works)...
As I said, manual detection gives absolutely nothing, the tab isn't even seen by any computer that I've tried on.
2) I don't really get what you're saying, but no, I can't try another cable =/
I really don't want to buy another one if I'm not sure it'll solve the problem... I'm a little short on money x)
And I'm a misanthropist **** that has no friends, no one can lend my one.
It's rather strange...
For the point "2)", explanation :
An USB cable is made with 4 wires.
2 wires for electrical power (+5V and Ground)
2 wires for data (Rx, Tx)
So it's possible that the 2 wire for electrical power are good but the 2 others are damage... It's a possibility.
A question more, did you tried the connector slot on the Tab AND on the Dock, if you have it ?
Yes, I tried plugging it docked. No luck either.
And I get your point regarding the cable. This is indeed a possibility, but is there a way to be sure it's the problem ? As I said, I can't afford buying a new one for nothing. I'm not even sure if I could afford buying a new one even if I was sure it would solve the problem, actually x)
Thanks anyway pal, Belge hein ? Si tu fais un petit tour en France à l'occasion, je te paie une mousse
No way to test the cable with another peripheral. It is proprietary cable.
A suitable solution for you to test it's to go to Fnac, Carrefour, etc or where you bought it and test your cable with another Tab...
Volontiers pour la mousse...
Je vote aussi pour le câble défectueux (tu peux en "racheter" pour 30€ sur le store asus, çà te servira toujours). Et je suis un peu loin pour te préter le mien
Sorry for the french, here's the translation
I also think the cable is defective (you can buy one for 30€ in asus store, which will always be usable). And I'm too far to borrow mine

Hello,
Problem: then i connect my Wizard via USB cable it shows no signs of any connection at all, but battery is charging. I still can sync via bluetooth and IR and it works just fine, but USB is totally dead. Maybe my wizards usb slot is broken ? Any suggestions what to do ?

Have you tried another cable?
I have a P3600 (Trinity) with a mini USB socket. Every now and again, the charging light comes on but the USB fails. I reckon the socket or cable end is getting a bit worn/tired out, and only the +5v and ground contacts actually connect. The two centre data lines don't, hence the Activesync error, but the phone is still charging Fiddling with the socket or just pressing it down toward the back of the phone will make it work.
If this doesn't work, maybe the socket has completely had it.
Update to this: Feb 25:- The USB connection has now failed completely. Charges the battery, but ActiveSync cannot connect, other phones are fine using the same cable. No amount of fiddling will get it to work. The device is now assigned to the ever growing pile of electroscrap used as demo machines. Now on a company hand-me-down MWg Zinc II. Not an HTC device, I know, but I won't be leaving the forum.

Hello suddenly my nexus s stopped connecting with data with the pc it only charges, tried with 3 diffrent computers with diffrent os , no menu popping on nexus and nothing connected on the computer(like i didnt connect anything), i removed the battery left it for some time installed stock rom still nothing. It was acting normally for a second and the other it stopped any help appreciated!
Are you sure you're using the cable that came with the phone? I have an LG Wink featurephone here that uses the same connector at the phone end -- its cable will charge my Nexus S (using the computer, obviously, but also when used with either the LG or Samsung charger) but no USB connection happens when I use it. Only the cable that came with my Nexus S provides a USB connection when I connect to the computer. I guess there are pinout differences between the two cables.
If you're sure you're using the right cable, I would guess that it's gone bad if it doesn't work on any computer. You can buy an (overpriced) replacement from Samsung or maybe a cheaper one on eBay or at a retail store. If the latter, be sure the seller lists it as compatible with the Nexus S.
it happened with the original cable ppfff i dont know...
same problem

I have no idea what the problem could be.
We are not alone with this problem: code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13553
Now installed stock rom as well but still the same problem.
If i starting the NS in the bootloader mode the phone is not recognized by the computer.
It would be great, if someone knows a solution!

My phone charges just fine. And my USB connectivity was fine until I manually installed 2.3.4.
~I had usb connection problems after upgrade to 2.3.4 a bit different but I managed to get the USB back by formatting the SD card.

I was on 2.3.3 when this happened, i tried to flash 2.3.4 then and again it didnt work but the strange thing is that when i was moving the mini usb the first times up and down it was shown for a moment as a broken usb device. Then this stopped and was not shown at all on the computer and finally the phone charged super slow when connected to electricity
Beginning to believe that it is a physical prob with USB connector on phone. It seems to start/stop charging when wiggling usb on phone but no mounting. Doe anyone know best way to resolve , T-mobile but bought from Best Buy? so to Best Buy? FOR SUPPORT /EXCHANGE? suggestions?
I've seen loose connections before. My suggestion ain't the cheapest but the plug, on the cable end, shouldn't wiggle. I went to a corporate sprint store, the ones that actually have working display phones, and got their usb to micro usb data cable. The thing with that cable is when you plug it in the phone side, it goes into the jack firmly. You can almost feel the little locking tabs click into place. There should be no play or wiggle with that cable as long as there's no damage or abuse with the jack on the phone. IMO, that's a good data cable. It's never given me problems before.
Also, sometimes the cable is only wired for charging. A true data cable will be wired correctly and be able to both charge and transfer data. Usually the cables that come with the phone are crap quality. I don't know if my suggestion will help but it won't hurt to have a good cable for data transfer and flashing. The last thing you want is a flaky connection from a cheap cable when you're flashing roms. Russian roulette with bricking a phone in a worse case situation.
Did you try reboot the computer and the phone? How about a different usb port? How about unplug any other usb device in case it's conflicting for some unknown reason? It sounds like so many people with windows 7 are having problems. Usually always happens with a new os that's released. Xp, for flashing devices and programming different hardware devices, has never given of a problem. I have a small partition with xp on it just for that purpose only.
off to Samsung for repair for me...
After time on phone with them and a factory reset belief is that the usb connector is defective. BTW Best Buy just hands off to Samsung 1-800 #
So Back to a barely functional G-1 for a while, glad I could find it!
So is Samsung or the carriers replacing or fixing units?
My USB data died shortly after 2.3.4 ota update.
Wifi FTP is fine for data transfer but I want USB debug to work...
Shame on google and Samsung, this bug has been around for months.
no shame on anyone...
I went through a factory reset with Samsung on phone that isolated the problem to what is apparently a loose usb connector, nothing to do with software... only hassle is sending it in for repair, as` mentioned problem needs to be dealt with Samsung customer service (not carrier or Best Buy), they were fine on phone...
Hello there
Ive got a problem. I wanted to Root my SL101 (Firmware 4.0.3 Android) with Peri or THe 1 Click Solution. But the original usb cable only charged my device when I plugged in to power socket. BUt USB on PC didnt work. PC never found device, didnt search for driver and no "BLing" for USB device plugged in. So I ordered a new usb cable (not original, cause asus sl101 already 3 years old). The new cable worked. USB found on PC. Data transfer worked. Charinging over power socket worked, but no charging when connected to pc. When I enabled USB Debugging, it said "Device removed" and then "device started". But there was no deivce seen on computer. No "internal storage". So there is no possibility to transfer data and Root won't start cause it doesnt find device. I installed all driver (ADB driver, also tried Asus Pc Suite), but it doesnt work. Is my device broken or is it because of the cables? Are there any working cables on internet with better quality and supporting USB Debugging? The non original cable is from vhbw.
Is this a common problem with Asus Sl101? I searched for related problems. SOmeone also had problems with Asus original cable. It also charged plugged in to power socket but not with PC and Pc never fund USB conection, never searched for drivers. He ordered a new cable (original, cause his case was years ago) and it worked.
Any ideas how to get it work? Its not really important to root it though, but I wanted to buy Titanium Backup so I can save my apps, and I need root for it. There are f course plenty other apps needing root. Any advices?
Not sure about the data transfer error apart from lack of drivers, but the PC will not charge the tablet while it is running - at least for the TF101 anyway, the only way to get the PC to charge it is to either turn it off while its plugged into the PC and leave it overnight for trickle charge, or I think also if the tablet is in sleep mode, it will also trickle charge - but you have to use the main charger to get a fast charge into it - PC will only trickle charge

First of all, thanks for answering. I tried it, but when I plug in USB, Asus SL101 turns on. I won't charge turned off. It turns on automatically when I plug in USB to charge. And when its turned on plugged in on PC USB, as I explained before, it won't charge.
Somene know where I can get a working cable? Maybe an original working one? Asus SL 101 is maybe 2 or 3 years old know. Shouldnt there be still original ones left in shops? Actually it doesnt have to be an original one. A working one is fine, too. (Working means for me: USB, Charging, USB Debugging). So anyone knows good stores/internet offers (amazon, ebay...) for sl101 cables? Cause I really dont know which one is a good one.
Plug it in to USB and then turn it off, you won't see it charging, it is a very very slow process when you charge from PC (If it works the same as the TF101) - leave it overnight plugged in and turned off
Sounds like your cable is working fine, you get a data connection with USB debugging - so data side of the cable works, and you get a charge when you plug it into the charger, so power side of it is working too
It's likely drivers stopping you using the media transfer mode
eBay would probably be your best bet if you want another one
asusparts.eu sell some stuff too - fits SL101
http://www.asusparts.eu/en/Asus-KIT-AC-TF101
Ya actually I didnt want to complain. The cable really works fine, but I cant root cause USB Debugging Mode is found by PC, but showing no storage icons on computer. So Root Software dont find device and no data transfer works while it is in debugging mode. Could it be because of my device? Actually it was from germany and the firmware also was DE. But for updates, I had to change it to WW code. Maybe its cause of firmware. I really dont know. Its strange cause for everyone it works, only for me it doesnt work. So original cable was to begin with not working on usb pc. So I hoped the fake one would work full. *sigh*
Thanks for the link. I searched for only the cable (on the given link) and I found it without adapter. But its a pity, Im in germany and if they send the cable to me, I have to pay 46$ for the cable. For US people its 25$ (cause they dont have to pay oversea sending costs). If its also not working, so it would be a problem.. even warranty is expensive (sending back ~20$).
Is there a way to downgrade SL101 from 4.0.3 to Firmware Version 3.2 without using USB Debugging and root?
Case closed, Watson (I always wanted to say that)
I found the error. The cable is working now and USB Debugging working, too. Root was successful. I opened device manager and deleted Asus Epad Sl101 driver and plugged sl101 in. So windows had to search for drivers and it installed the right drivers. I dont know why preinstalled ADB Drivers didnt work, but now everything works.
Thanks for your effort
Great, yea sounded like a driver problem, pleased you got it working :good:
hi, I sent the radio for a warranty because the touch screen did not work. They sent me a new radio, this time the USB is not working from the beginning, I tried a few pendrives, a wireless keyboard, charging the phone, nothing works. I checked with a multimeter and it shows 2.26V on the radio and the same at the end of the USB cable (so the cable itself is good, I also checked the cable and it's okay) anyone can knows where is the problem?
I d send it back, the only accounts I ve read about usb not working have when the SoM has been recovered a la @marchnz's method and someone has been heavy handed inserting pins into the SoM.
I've had several issues with USB on these as well. If someone tries to charge their device off the port, it tends to blow out components instead of signaling a brownout and shutting off the port.
I've used the pins metod to upgrade my SOM to Orero and my USB stop working. I've fixed my SOM with a thiny piece of alluminium inserted in the pins i've used for the upgrade.
Is there an hdmi to usb type c adapter that works to see the magic 5g network on tv?

Hey,
Its secure enough i think, it fits almost perfect.
there is a small plastic nipple behind the phone to support it.
you can turn the dock sideways without the phone falling out.
it is very tight in the usb port.
the only suggestion for improvement: insert a little foam on the left and right under the phone for a perfect hold.
Usb ports and chargig port works too...
So u can use display out, charging and a wiered Controller at the same time ( funfact: use a usb network adaper on the second port for best ping )

I use HDMI, mouse & keybord tru USB type C multi hub (hdmi, 3xusb3.0, type c & sd card) and Sentio app (free from store) starts up auto upon hdmi connect, for a near perfect effortless, pc experience on my TV.
Strong build and fast.
Since updating to 3.11, the hdmi tru my hub doesnt work anymore. Phone shuts off or simply nothing happens. Anyone else having that trouble ?
The hub works fine with all other inputs.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, i’m new here..
I have a problem with the redmagic Dock that when I use the hdmi via the phone’s usb c port I can’t charge the device with the Dock’s usb c port , it Will Stop the signal to the tv/monitor and start to glitch..
Shouldn’t it charge The device at the same time?
And help or insight would be greatly appreciated .

I plan to buy redmagic dock and using hdmi via type c, too. Can u answer some of my question.
1. Can u discribe the glitch u said? Did u use redmagic for connect internet and charge same time with hdmi hub charge, too?
2. If not, can u test charge seperate and both redmagic dock and/or hdmi hub to see with situation glitch happen.
Thanks
Hey poking in here, I have the RedMagic6Pro and using a switch "covert" dock (like the new genki covert dock but half price lol) it works great with the switch and I got it to work ONCE but ever since can't get video out. Is there an option for this? Thank you!
