Yeah it's too bad that the Market is the only place to get apps, huh...
You can find the emulator on 4shared.com, who pays for apps anymore? Lol

I emailed the dev and this was his response
A great number of users are complaining about the compatibility and running performance. Considering the bad ratings, I temporarily unpublished it. I am doing a rewrite of some of the core modules. Don't worry, N64oid will be back much better in 1-2 months.
Thanks for the understanding! I won't let people down
Ya people are retarded. Brand new app and they expect it to be flawless. Hate complainers. I actually did download I from a sharing site first but was impressed and decided to buy it. Plus 15 min refund window basicly makes it impossible to try it out. I never had problems with the app on my xoom of evo. I play it whenever I can at work

I don't think he was serious but the amazon app store is nice.
I don't blame him for doing this. People were all bent out of shape that it was $6 and he didn't have every rom working flawlessly. They rate bombed his app in the market.
The truth is that even if you only had 3 games working well, that should be worth your $6.
Oh well, now because everyone cried we can sit here with the app in it's current version, and wait 2 months for him to release a finished product instead of having something useable with updates all along the way.
Unrelated, but I just got a notice from google saying that one of my apps (a space invaders emulator) has been removed due to copyright infringement, even though it includes no roms.
I wonder why people complain about it about its sluggishness.
I mean, its not the developers fault that the people don't buy high-end phones.
They expect a 3D emulator to work on a 600mhz proccessor?
I mean, too many apps on ur phone also makes it slow.
Why bother leaving a low rating when its not the developers fault. The emulator runs flawlessly on the Evo, nexus s... (1 ghz+)

Dude are you seriously that cheap! Android apps are most of the time a dollar maybe two. The ones that are more are usually well worth it. Six dollars for something that lets you play N64 games anywhere you go is cheap, and you know you didn't pay for any of the 1000 games you have to play for it. Plus With the huge number of free apps, paying a dollar for the one out of every twenty apps is crazy cheap.
Sorry for the rant, but stealing a android app is like stealing from a guy with a morgage and a family vs a movie is coming out of a mega corporations pocket. Most of the Developers in the market and on here make all this awesome stuff because they like too, with the added side effect of making money. Support the developers so they will keep make cool stuff!

I wouldn't even worry about that guy. He'll probably need the Android Market Security Tool eventually with that kind of attitude.
Please don't pirate these apps...it only demoralizes the devs that work hard to make profit from it. Stolen copies = less updates.

If they enter into the app development world, they've got to know/expect that people will pirate their apps. It's inevitable. If they get butthurt about it and stop updating their apps because of that, then they probably don't have what it takes to compete in this arena.
Having said that... I've paid for the apps that are on my phone.
If you buy a game loft game their policy says you can only play it on the phone you used to buy the game. So if you ever upgrade to a newer phone they will expect you to buy the game all over again.
I bought 3 games from them at 6.99 each days before switching from a G2 to a sensation and can't use them, I contacted gameloft only to be told their policy won't allow me to upgrade my phone and still use their games.
That sounds wrong, I contacted them when I got my Sensation and they gave me all my old games again.
As someone who is looking into a few Gameloft titles but works for T-mo and upgrades my devices about every 3 to 6 months are there more users that can either confirm or deny this?
By rights once you pay for the 'game' you pay for the licence to play it. So changing handsets shouldn't really be a issue - However changing platforms may not be the same as licences are different with iOS and Android. This might be also true in handset make.
Because the game will be coded differently for different handsets then you may need to pay for that version of the game. E.g. I couldn't buy a game for a Apple PC then decide to change to a Windows laptop and expect the supplier to change my version (However some developers may do this but good luck getting through to them)
So in short as long as you go from a HTC where you bought the licence then it should be fine upgrading to another HTC and getting the games - However you may need to obtain the game files yourself. Either copied to a SD card or otherwise.
Hope this helps.
G2x hd2 and sensation only bought em once and emailed then copys for each device.

i can comfirm you only have one chance at the game, if your phone must be hard reset you will lose your game i bought asphalt 5 along time ago and after every hard reset i enter my google acct and its back in my apps on the market not anymore after i change phones that it must buy it again they have a new policy just check the website also google it and you will see how many people are mad at this you cant even use titanium backup anymore wants you restore and start the game it tells you this is not the original copy
Gameloft needs to change this policy.
if a customer purchased the game and got a new phone in the same platform, they should not be forced to purchase the game again just to be able to play it on their new phone.
I can understand, if say, you were on android and switched to Iphone.
different platform, I wouldn't have a problem paying again since it's on a different platform.
it's like if you bought a game on your PS3 and now got an Xbox, you'd of course would buy the game again that works on the new platform.
being forced to pay again just because you switched your phone(on the same platform) is ridiculous.
they can look you up by your phone number and see your purchase history.
this should be a non issue.
Wont be buying any gameloft games from now on then.
The process of activating a game which you bought from gameloft is send your IMEI to store in server of GL. So, hard reset ->okie, change another phone -> not allow. I think you should contact with support center to find out the solution.
Here's confirmation for you. Read this months back.
http://www.androidguys.com/2011/04/21/gameloft-policies-handcuffing-customers/
Here is a copy of the email reply I got
Unfortunately, you can not re-download the games from one phone to another one. According to Gameloft policy if you buy a game, you can re-download it to the same phone with the same phone number within 3 years of your purchase. If the phone model or number was changed by the customer's own initiative, Gameloft has the right to refuse re-sending the game.
You can not re-download or transfer games which you bought on one phone(G2) to another phone (htc sensation), because we produce each game-build for one particular phone to ensure the best quality and to prevent piracy. If you want to have games on your both phones, I'm afraid you will have to buy them again.
Sorry for the inconveniences. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
So I wrote back and told them that was not cool and got this reply
I'm really very sorry, but I can do nothing in this case. Before purchasing Gameloft games you should have read our terms and conditions at http://www.gameloft.com/conditions/.
I'm sorry for all the inconveniences.

This is true, but gameloft games are so cool!
This is one reason why the iPhone appstore is better than the android market. In the appstore, apple controls how the devs sell their products and they define how many devices (5) you can install your apps. So on your iphone you buy 1 gameloft game and have it installed on your ipod touch, ipad, ipad 2 and your other iphone. cost effective. That is also the reason why most game devs dont develop apps for iphone and ipad but develops them into separate version (HD) so they can milk customers more. In Android, the milking it more rampant and clear. sad.
I just bought Modern Combat 3 through the android.com website
because my Xperia play is not being allowed to buy it for some unknown reason.
Anyways. I bought it online thinking I could download it on the phone once it was purchased and to my DISMAY. It's still not showing up.
Furthermore when I try to install through the website on my phones browser it says "incompatibe device" and it's showing up as greyed out.
Also when I try to open it on my market via the website . It loads the app for a split second then pops up and error message saying
"That app does not exist"
I SAW IT LOAD UP! They are lying!
I have a rooted R800X. Verizon firmware 2.3.3
So I'm trying to find out why other users of this forum are allowed to buy and play it on their Xperia but they are black listing me saying its "incompatible"
Oh P.S alot of their other games aren't showing up in the market either
It's almost like they are trying to keep us from buying the games on the 99 cent sale day.
not all games are available in every area and gameloft often takes there games off the market so its an old dead link thats 'loading up' you will have to google it and find a "modified" version that someone has uploaded
Some games from Gameloft require 2.3.4 & higher even though they don't say that on the Market or their site...
Can't get the game here either. Called gameloft and they said the games compatible on my r800x and the problem is on the android market side and they have nothing to do with 3rd parties that sell there games. Oh and the wapshop the game is still 4.99. The promotion is only for the android market. I live in Los Angeles and can't get the discount bull****!

not showing up on the Xperia with 2.3.3

How on earth can you say gameloft are liars, you checked the market and the game said it was not compatible, buying it off the web market wont make it magically compatible with your device. If you were then stupid enough to buy it even after the market told you your device was not compaible it's your own fault.

P.S the game is compatible with my device so explain how they aren't lying?
They finally budged and sent me the game after 2 phone calls
and it seems to be working fine
So actually they are cheats. by not telling people on the facebook page that the game is on sale
also cheats by not letting verizon users see the games in the market
also liars by saying its "not compatible" when i am playing the game right now

There is a different version of the game for the xperia play. Gameloft has always done this. The website version of the android market said it wasn't compatible because of this. Any game from gameloft on the xperia play should be purchased from gameloft themselves (just go to gameloft.com on your phone). 10 minutes of research on these forums could have told you that before you tried purchasing it and then throwing a fit about it.

because they know of Gamelofts scam tactics. thats why gameloft trys to keep off the android market because of how they try to use DRM to scam people
making it a royal pain in the azz when you put ROM's on phone. you have to "request" all your apks to be given back to you.
what a load of BULL CRAP! - Screw that.

Androhero, sometimes I respect what you do on these forums, and other times i find you to be an offensive narrow-minded jerk.
Gameloft is clearly trying to play both sides of the fence with android, and has been since the beginning, they don't like the amount of pro-consumer defences in place on the market. I'm not sure i understand how you can defend them as zealously as you have.
I bought modern combat 3 for 0.99c on the market despite it not being compatible with my handset, and heres why:
a. I have the moral high-ground when it comes to sideloading the app from various sources.
b. It's cheaper lol.
c. I have the advantage of having an sgs, I can have it sent to my sgs via the web market and then simply sideload it to my play, no dodgy websites involved.
I can understand, but don't completely agree with limiting markets by territory, i believe that in many cases Gameloft purposely allows and disallows various apps not for technical issues, but that in their eyes it makes more business sense for them to do so, even though its the end users that suffer for it.
I operate in this way and don't expect to have Gameloft help me at all, I know im bending the rules, and i'm ok with that, as i dont believe anyone could really call my actions dishonest or sneaky.
How do you feel knowing that Gameloft segregates us from the rest of the android market, likely because we are more willing to pay full price for games and they are taking advantage of that, its certainly not because of all the extra effort they put into xplay compatible controls .........LOL!!!.........
anyways enough of that, i don't really actually expect to play this game, but i do like specials.

Maelstrom, dude i know where your comming from, but you need to understand gameloft do not directly sell there games on android market, infact they sell the games to google and google sell them on the market, it's then up to google to decide what devices are compatible and not, i'm sure amazon played a big part in MC3 not being availible for the R800x, but bottom line it's nothing to do with gameloft, he should be calling google names, gameloft even went out of there way to provide him with a free .apk even though they were not legally required

AndroHero I respect you and what you do on these forums but I have to say this
I've been researching and I found that Verizon and the R800X have been denied games before this MC3 thing.
And I believe after researching it's part of Verizon with their Vcast Malware.
YES I'm calling it Malware. I believe it actually is blocking us from getting specific games on our devices by means of hardware lockout. I believe this is why the google market will not show it to us at all.
I think gameloft was aware of this so that is why they are sending the games directly.
Did you also know if you buy the gameloft games through the VCAST store. Once you switch carriers the games will no longer play anymore
Yup thats right. Because without a "DRM network check" Verizon has their apps setup to always force close with an error.
So even if you pay full price for all the gameloft games from the Verizon Apps store (The only place you can get some of them)
You are getting your money stolen basically and being forced to say with Verizon
So maybe I was wrong to call Gameloft liars. Maybe it's not their fault. I dont know but I do know that this isn't fair to us Xperia Play owners. We are being excluded every day and it's REAL CRAP!

I'll tell you why people keep buying Verizon, at least in our area. Because of service coverage. My daughter works for a company that is the call center for AT&T. Interestingly enough, almost all of their employees have Verizon as their personal carrier because AT&T's coverage is so poor. Same with most of the other carriers.
That's also why Verizon can get away with screwing its customers in so many ways. Captive audience.

Thats not true, Gameloft does sell the games themselves on the Android Market. Gameloft specifically is the one who sets the permissions which can be done both within the programming as well as when the app is loaded on to the market. Gameloft locks their Xperia Play games to their WAP store for one reason, as mentioned by another poster. They believe that people who own a "gaming" phone will pay extra for the version of the game that works with their phone. They have even gone so far as to have programmed different versions, even though they don't need to. The only reason MC3 even shows up was likely due to them accidentally not locking out some models of the R800 (You need to specifically pick R800i, R800x, R800at etc in the dev console), or they changed their policy, but still locked out the R800x thanks to Verizon wanting to have it exclusive on their V-crap store.
A lot of these mistakes happen with their games, look at Assassins Creed with its graphical glitches, Eternal Legacy with its crashes, Shadow Guardian and the fact you can't actually complete the damn game due to a bug in one of the puzzles! Not sure if they use cheap programmers, or they just rush job stuff out the door to squeeze every last penny out.

Its like this all over the country. There is no place in the US especially any place near a metropolitan area that any other carrier has better service. The difference is tremendous between them and everyone else. Also, up until a couple months ago the only way you could get the Play was through Verizon, unless you didn't care to have 3G service. Incidentally Verizon is owned partially by Vodafone, I'm assuming though Vodafones business practices are different?
So... in the end... this thing is still a Phone and thats what we all have a need for. Game controls and video games etc are just gravy.
As for the OP. Gameloft clearly doesn't allow their Market apps for a reason as discussed. It doesn't work, you can complain to them as to why they aren't allowing download on the Market, but the fact you wasted a buck on it and it won't work isn't their fault, they told you it wasn't gonna work and you did it anyway.
Then in the end even though you basically tried to skirt their rules (however immoral they may be) they still helped you out by giving you the game working for your phone anyway. I'd say the customer service really isn't so bad after all (they gave me a free game too for the whole Shadow Guardian debacle).
Hey all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I had an idea a few weeks ago and decided to see if anyone would be interested in making this a reality.
Basically, I've been giving away free help to locals who are having issues with their android-based phones. Mostly it's factory resetting or telling people they can't use their Verizon phone on AT&T. But they really appreciate it because its a human interaction. I feel like one of those Mac geniuses (except I'm not trying to sell anything, my help is free, and I would like to think I know a little more about my product).
So the goal is to offer free tech support locally to anyone who buys an android phone. The idea being to compete with apple care, but make it a free service. I know a lot of you know a lot more than me about android, and there are times when I could use some help.
If anyone's interested in joining some sort of group dedicated to helping people with android locally, let me know! Hoping I'm not the only person who wants to help out the noobs
Thanks!
Ben
Ps - The way I started this was posting an ad on my local craigslist offering free tech support to anyone who owned an android. Gotten about 5 hits in the past week and I'm in a very rural area.
Bump. 157 views and no replies at all? Any thoughts at all about this idea?

What happens when you hard brick their phone?
You fix it lol. I've done it. Just have to read before you jump into anything, all the info is out there (thanks I'm no small part to this site).
Also, update: just got our second member! Woo Think I'm going to organize this via Google + for now.

Bump. Decided to try to run this through google+. Maybe that weird social network will end up being useful after all

Not always possible. What happens when you accidentally pull the cord out of the phone while flashing bootloaders (say, when upgrading a cappy to ICS). Or do you not mean that kind of help?
Herp derp Captivate Tapatalk 2
Ooh no, I do mean that kind of help. While I've never played with the captivate, I would imagine either be ready to fastboot or (easier) be really careful with other peoples' phones.
I think I've decided to scrap this project. While I have started to get a few locals interested recently, they really don't know enough to be useful without a lot of help, and after working full time, I just don't have enough energy for this. If someone else wants to take over the lead on this, I'd be happy to help, but I just can't take on this much extra responsibility right now.
And let's be honest, we've already got Android geniuses: our devs right here.

I have a 12 year old sister and she's not really "normal"
She's a bit slow in social terms and not much of a fast learner. Her father bought her a laptop for Christmas and I was really wanting to get her every Friday and just show her some tricks and tips and help her with her homework. Would be nice to influence her in some way because I believe she really needs it.
But I'm not much of a teacher when it comes to technology. I can do just about anything technically but I can't really explain even how to stop "Do you want this to be your default browser" popups to people who aren't so tech savvy.
What should I do? I've already showed her a YouTube series to watch for "Beginning with Windows 7" or something but she still doesn't really understand. I got it to where she can text me through Gmail but I still have to go up there a few times and click on my name because she doesn't understand how to open the chat window back up.
Any ideas? She doesn't really have a good computer. I couldn't even get those cheap "iSpy" games at Walmart to run stable. I plan to show her how to use Google and Wikipedia for school but what's something fun for a 12 year old girl? Besides Facebook. I doubt her Father would allow that.

Is she really your sister? In the OP you say she's your sister yet when you refer to what should be your father you always say "her father" what gives?

Different Father, same Mother. But we lived together when I was younger. So she's basically my Sister.

Apologies for jumping the gun there mate. I have a very young daughter myself and the recent headlines with the kidnappings of those 3 girls didn't help either, its enough to make anyone edgy.

Really? I never watch the news anymore. They dramatize serious subjects and it just ticks me off.
But yeah, I figured I could spend more time with her. She really has no one to really teach her anything, no offense to our parents. But she's getting to the age where I think she should consider taking things like education more seriously. I dropped out and getting into college was hell. My older Brother graduated but is nothing but a labor slave. Her Father and our Mother has their issues as well so she really has no role model. I think I should be more involved so if she does want to do something with her life, she doesn't have to go down the hard path like I have.

Maybe those websites like addictinggames.com or onemorelevel.com.. maybe find a blog or forum related to something shes interested in?
Don't know why the thread posted here by the way. I meant to post in XDA General

The minimum age for Facebook is 13 I thought so it may not be appropriate for her. And if by not "normal" you mean she's developmentally disabled her actual age she acts might even be younger than 12 and she would be vulnerable to predators on Facebook and other social media sites so be careful there. Opening her up to the world of the internet might not be a good call if you don't have appropriate parental guards in place on the pc she's using. Predators look for kids just like your sister, the most vulnerable are the easiest prey. I would at the least only let her on-line supervised by an adult and make sure she can't get on-line by herself.
And you can only teach her as much as you know. So the best bet is to learn more yourself and then you will be a better teacher. I have grown adults at work who have used pc's for at least the last 18 years and they still ask me do the simplest of tasks for them so she may never figure it all out. Turning it on and playing a game may be all she can do, hell that's all my boss can do.

I already did those steps before he gave it to her.

Does she have any interest in programming by some chance? Or the general concept of it (being able to tell computers what to do)?
Could try learning some Java/Android coding (for Android coding, probably want to learn some Java first). Seeing example code you written actually run might be pretty cool
What about voice recognition software like Dragon? It could be fun for her and also help her with technology?

Was actually thinking of that but I haven't really read anything about it besides commercials ? Does it "it just works" or is it complicated?
I think I could show her a few things. But I really don't know what she likes. She has like a billion pets but that doesn't really relate to teaching her how to use a computer.

I have no idea if it is complex or not, try their website... good luck with helping your sister.
12 year old boy.
Actually,I just remembered that Dragon comes with the new Swype keyboard on play store. You can get a free trial, if you like them buy the app and see if it's worth getting the desktop version?

Excuse me.. This is Nexus 4 general thread. Here you cant discuss or ask for help regarding grooming your siblings.
This thread is meant for general talk on NEXUS 4 and related to it.
I am not being rude but just clearing things. Sorry if u gt hurt.
Your right this is meant for the nexus 4, but as the op said he thought he was posting in xda general. I will ask a mod to move this to the appropriate forum.

I've moved this thread to the General Discussion area... If you have somewhere else in mind, simply press the report button in the OP and list where you would like it to be.
I meant to post in XDA General but since I have this app to default to my favorites and Nexus 4 General is all that's there, I reckon it bounced me back here when creating a topic.
I apologize, but yes this is intended for XDA General.
I was shopping around last night and this morning and I'm thinking of getting her a used iPod from GameStop to play games with and stuff. Really the issue is that she's growing up and everybody still babies her like her 10 year old sister. I think the laptop is the only thing she's really proud of as her room is piled with dolls and Barbie's. The iPod is only $80 and maybe a $20 iTunes gift card. I don't know what music she likes. She doesn't even know who Justin Bieber or One Direction is.
