Rooting the GT I9003
@shalin99
I just rooted my phone using Super One Click after some effort.
The first two times the rooting hung. I couldn't even get logs as the window froze not allowing me to copy. However, the last line I saw was some /tmp/debugfs string.
At any time if your rooting window also hangs, kill the process and two other instances of adb.exe and restart the program.
After this, I rebooted the phone and rooted again, which went through. I was able to grab this log. Am attaching this if it might help.
Once rooted (after seeing the OK message), start the Superuser program on your Android and update it. The one that comes with the SuperOneClickv2.3.2-ShortFuse.zip package is outdated.
Good luck with your effort. If you need help, let me know. Am not an expert, but can try to help, since I have been through the process. If it helped, please press "Thanks"

the good news is you're not updating to something else, just adding, sorta like an extra app
odin is quite simple, and I'm sure there are steps available on how to use it, along with where to download it (get version 1.83).
once you do that and get amit's universal cfroot flashed, it's just one click to root it from recovery!

Samsung Galaxy Player 5 Rooting?

Hello all, I'm new to this forum, and new to Android. However I recently purchased the just released Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0.
I want to root the device, but so far am a bit leary to try anything since nothing specifically states the Player device.
In any case, info is here:
Model: YP-G70
Firmware Version: 2.3.5
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-G70UEKI8-CL566269 / [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UEKI8
Thanks.
I still have yet to see anyone report a successful root with the 2.3.5 firmware, unfortunately(I'm also looking/trying to pull it off, but no luck so far).
Thanks for the reply. Guess it's just wait and see then, eh?
I guess so.
I know it wouldn't take long for a dev to figure out how to root it, but they need to find out about this device first! No one seems to know it exists.
It's a shame, because it's a really nice machine. Samsung should put more resources on advertising about this product, it's way superior to an iPod Touch in many ways.

And we just got root!! There is another thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141893&page=4 that will explain how.
I also have noticed a minimum of bloatware - IMHO this is far superior to an Ifruit.
Is there anyway to make a backup of your firmware? I tried to flash mine, but it bricked and now i need the original one but there isn't one for download

You should be able to use the Kies 2.0 software to reload the firmware. Not sure but I think this would work.
I have the same device as you and I rooted. it with superoneclick 2.2. Hope that helps!
Got Bricked
Need help! My Samsung Galaxy Player YP-G70, the Korean version hs only download mode on the screen everytime I plug it into the computer. I tried to update it to a gingerbread from a froyo using odin, but it got screwed up. Please help. Any tech god out there that could help me.
korean Samsung Galaxy
Hey everyone, I also have a Korean Samsung Galaxy YP-GB70 and I tried superoneclick (2.3.3) and easyroot. With superoneclick it starts off well enough but the program freezes at step 7 and is unresponsive, then I see 2 adb running in the task manager altough i dont know if this is normal. With easyroot, it runs and there are some lines that say something about not being able to copy superuser.apk and something about read only files, it reboots the galaxy player but when it restarts it's not rooted, all the drivers are installed (did it with kies) so I don't know what the problem is...help and thanks in advance

Hey, good thing for you is that the screen you are describing IS normal download mode. With the 2.3.6 update came an update to the way download mode looks and works. That custom download binary:NO just means that you haven't loaded any custom binaries to the phone (you're on the stock one), and where it says current binary, it lists which version you are on: in this case, official Samsung.
Nothing is wrong, and all is as it should be.
Thanks a million. I was worried for bit. I have an other question that hopefully you can help me out with. I have been trying to use odin and superoneclick since I updated to 2.3.6 and I can't get the phone to work with either odin or superoneclick. It worked fine with both programs before the update. I really wanna root the phone but haven't been able to. Hope you or anyone can help me out.

seems like SOC doesnt work with the official update
and try re installing drivers or using different USB ports on PC before giving up
try each at least 3 times and make sure you are not using a hub or anything
and you have a direct USB connection
Heimdall and Odin get picky sometimes
As jayRokk says, uninstall your Samsung drivers and Kies installation in Control Panel / Programs and Features (or Add Remove Programs). Reinstall Kies to be sure that your drivers are installed correctly (This is for Odin, to get drivers for Heimdall you have to use the zadig program that comes with Heimdall to install a different driver on one specific port.).
Then, you might want to try this Odin package that I put together to make it easy to get stock AT&T Gingerbread with root.:

same problem exactly
Please ....any one can help us..
i resolve it , the hard way
i searched for a compatible kernal (search for Kernel_I9100JPLPF), and installed it.... using Odin3
i flushed the kernal in , then did the rooting.
i feel the problem we are facing was initiated as follow:
- I was using galaxy S2 , and i root it successfully.
- samsung installed a new update
- i accepted the update
- the device has lost the root access , however the super user software is still installed on ! (the upgrade didnt remove it)
- when i tried to do actions required rooting , it was failing
- when i try to root , it gives errors on the command screen
so by flushing the kernal i resolved this issue . !

Well, that's a good thing that you've actually managed to successfully root your phone. Can you now please do us the favour of posting the links you've used for making that happen ? 'Cause saying that you've rooted it is good but without giving us the files you've used to do so doesn't actually help us at all. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Actually nevermind my question, i've finally and successfully rooted my phone.
I had the file on my computer all this time but was affraid of using it.
Anyway, for those who are interested, juste use this file "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXI_LPF-v5.5-CWM5.zip" (Search on google, it's easy to find, I just can't post links 'cause i'm still new here, sorry) with Odin of course and there you go.
Don't worry, it's the file i've used to root my Galaxy SII and it works like a charm.
Works only for the Kernel Version : 3.0.15-I9100JPLPF-CL644992 and the Built Number: IML74K.JPLPF of course as mentioned in the initial post.
Hope it helps.
Best regards.

Bricked S8+..... i think cant access recovery

hey everyone, im new here, just got a Samsung s8+ last week. had it rooted and all working well until today, had problems so i went to reflash twrp and when was unticking auto reboot in odin i accidentally ticked "nand erase"..... and i didnt notice until it was too late.
Now i cant get into recovery mode, i can get to the download mode but it wont flash the twrp at all it keeps failing. all i get is a black screen with samsung logo when i try to start it up. i am downloading factory firmware as i write this and going to see if that'll flash. any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance, hope this is the right place to post it.
Hey
If you can get to download mode, you just install the original firmware from smartswitch,I think you have that option to recover from that program, and install the original firmware.
Or just do it in Odin and find the firmware on SamM.
Lots of work for you,but thats the only thing I can come up with.
Then you have to root it again and everything with it.

No worry
You just have to install Microsoft visual c++ 2008 x86,after you have done that,no more errors in smartswitch.
Try that,and let us know
Long time since I used Odin now,but try the first thing first

Morning Mate,
Smart Switch (and KIES on Win 10) requires some old stuff to work. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582 My advice however would be to try and flash your carriers stock firmware with ODIN or if you want an easier way you can use KIES by doing the following -
- Install C++ 2008 SP1 from link above to get it to work on Windows 10
- Install KIES www.samsung.com/au/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/ - I'm in Australia so that's my closest but you can still get it from there no worries.
- Also select install 'unified driver' during install if you have not already installed Samsung USB drivers to your PC
- Fire up KIES and from the top menu select 'Tools' and from the drop down menu select 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation'
- Enter in your model number - for me it's SM-G955F (make sure model is all in CAPS or it will not work). Now it will present you with a S/N dialog box. This is the tricky part if your phone is bricked. Chances are you have not written down your serial number. You can get your serial number from the back of your phone towards the bottom in really small print, or you can get it from the box it came in from purchase if you happened to have kept that.
- Enter in the serial number and follow the instructions, it's easy as. This will install your stock firmware and you can start again. Provided there is no damage to the phone this method will always get you out of the proverbial as a last resort and it's faster than downloading firmware from updato.com or other places.
The fastest way is by using the SamFirm tool to download but it takes some knowledge and I have lost the link to where I got it (the link at XDA is dead now and refers you to updato.com). The method with KIES above will always work, is fairly fast and pretty easy for the newbies or experienced alike.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more assistance :good:
Thanks heaps mate, im also in australia too. have installed all the software and is updating and installing as i write this, all seems to be going well so far, thank you so much your a life saver i was starting to worry as wtf i could do with this brick haha i will keep you posted and let you know if i have nay problems. Thanks to everyone else for their help and contribution this forum is awesome. What would you recommend in regards to rooting the phone again use the twrp recovery and magisk-v14.0 root?
thanks again
I was just about to write a post about how it wouldnt work.... twice in a row it kept failing when it went to install and initialize... 3rd time lucky it ****ing worked! i have a stock phone now all working sweet. Thanks so much to everyone you guys are literally lifesavers!
LEGENDS! Happiest man alive right now.
