Hello all, I'm new to this forum, and new to Android. However I recently purchased the just released Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0.
I want to root the device, but so far am a bit leary to try anything since nothing specifically states the Player device.
In any case, info is here:
Model: YP-G70
Firmware Version: 2.3.5
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-G70UEKI8-CL566269 / [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UEKI8
Thanks.
I still have yet to see anyone report a successful root with the 2.3.5 firmware, unfortunately(I'm also looking/trying to pull it off, but no luck so far).
Thanks for the reply. Guess it's just wait and see then, eh?
I guess so.
I know it wouldn't take long for a dev to figure out how to root it, but they need to find out about this device first! No one seems to know it exists.
It's a shame, because it's a really nice machine. Samsung should put more resources on advertising about this product, it's way superior to an iPod Touch in many ways.

And we just got root!! There is another thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141893&page=4 that will explain how.
I also have noticed a minimum of bloatware - IMHO this is far superior to an Ifruit.
Is there anyway to make a backup of your firmware? I tried to flash mine, but it bricked and now i need the original one but there isn't one for download

You should be able to use the Kies 2.0 software to reload the firmware. Not sure but I think this would work.
I have the same device as you and I rooted. it with superoneclick 2.2. Hope that helps!
Got Bricked
Need help! My Samsung Galaxy Player YP-G70, the Korean version hs only download mode on the screen everytime I plug it into the computer. I tried to update it to a gingerbread from a froyo using odin, but it got screwed up. Please help. Any tech god out there that could help me.
korean Samsung Galaxy
Hey everyone, I also have a Korean Samsung Galaxy YP-GB70 and I tried superoneclick (2.3.3) and easyroot. With superoneclick it starts off well enough but the program freezes at step 7 and is unresponsive, then I see 2 adb running in the task manager altough i dont know if this is normal. With easyroot, it runs and there are some lines that say something about not being able to copy superuser.apk and something about read only files, it reboots the galaxy player but when it restarts it's not rooted, all the drivers are installed (did it with kies) so I don't know what the problem is...help and thanks in advance

Just recently I purchased a Goophone 4GS, simply a Chinese knock off of an Iphone, but I must say a very good one at that indeed. The phone is very nice and I like it a lot but came with all these Chinese apps installed that make it not only difficult but frustrating to use. The simplest solution is to root the the phone and install the apps I want and in English as well.
Before everyone starts pointing me to this thread and that post, I have spent every night for the past week searching and reading every bit of information on trying to root this phone to no avail whatsoever. Root Rec 3.2 does not work, permission denied, superoneclick either hangs or or comes back with the same.
Z4Root does nothing, Gingerbreak just hangs, Anyandroot says wrong version.
More searching even going to translating the Chinese forum made no difference to the outcome, following their procedure, and all the others nothing seems to work
I have downloaded a rom That I would like to use but I need the phone rooted first, I even tried to install the rom, using the initial setup (surprisingly) in English but keeps telling me new rom no E signature process aborted.
Now I'm new to this game but willing to learn, and have come a long way in a week, so If I ask stupid questions please remember I'm still a NOOB.
If anyone can suggest a procedure, or try this or that please help, Speak up and save my sanity, before end up rooting the phone in a different way.
Thanks

I believe the version is a heavily modded version of 2.2 Froyo OR 2.3 Gingerbread.
An Update I tried a few more packages tonight, CF-Root, and 234root.zip.
CF didn't do a thing, 234 I could not open, non signature error, So I even tried installing 3e refectory installer, but all failed.
Desperate for ideas now, even tried renaming the new rom as backup file to fool the system but no work.
Desperayte for answeres Please!
Thanks

Hi All
Just so I put an end to this thread for others with the same problems the solution is.
The phone is set with an IOS operating system and when you go to root the phone the programme cannot find the correct version. So solution is.
Go to rom.gooapple.com and download an earlier version of the rom . I used 12.02.13.zip and worked.
When you enter the site do not use translator, find the rom and press on it, will redirect you to another site 115 Chinese . Under the picture there are 4 buttons press the white one and download should start.
Once downloaded install it to your SD card go to setup and update from SD, the new rom will then be installed on the phone. Then use the Chinese Root-Rec and it should root. I even checked it with superoneclick and it worked.
So when you check your version on the phone if its running IOS XXXXX then you need to change it to android.
Good Luck.
Thanks to those who assisted me, and I hope I can assist someone else.

Goophone 4gs root
Hi! I'm a newbie and not a techie one. Really.
I have a goophone 4gs, mt6573 (although my antutu says its goophone y5) running android 4.1.1 and i want to root it... pls help.
Hi all
Im a newbie (and a noob by the looks of it)
Based in the UK and own a S2 which has 02 firmware but is unlocked
Connected to Kies last night to update to ICS
They go and brick my phone
My question?
How do I get my S2 back up and running?
At this point I dont really mind what it is running but would prefer ICS
I have ODIN Downloded but I am not sure how to get the ROMS/Firmware
Unzip/Zip the file
And how to get it on my phone
It currently goes into the boot mode when you hold Vol Down/Power & Home key
When powered on it comes up with load emergency jargon and connect to Kies which I have done numerous times to no avail
Any help would be appreciated ;-)
Rooted?
Is the phone rooted? I've never used odin. I have used Heimdall, which is pretty much the same.
Its not rooted
Just want to get it up and running asap
Any suggestions
Here's links for branded and unbranded official firmwares.
Unbranded firmware
Branded firmware
Those threads very clearly explain what you need to do to flash official firmware using Odin. Once you've done that you should be up and running again and can take it from there.
Thanks ever so much
I have a hour free now so wish me luck ;-)
Will report back and let you know how things went
OK Rather confused
All of the info is posted as you have stated but which one do I need to do?
Their are so many their and I dont get this whole root thing!?Do I need to root first?
Or do I not root as their is no need?
No root required to flash the stock firmware.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
I've gotten my GT-I9100 bricked.
Had successfully flashed Resurrection Remix ICS v2.1 ROM along with SiyahKernel v3.3.1. Everything was working fine until some suicidal impulse gripped me to format the SD card from the settings.
The phone did so, 'said restarting device', and then only the Galaxy S2 logo would appear followed by a back screen; which would flicker now and then.
It refuses to load into recovery mode; I have yet to administer the jig.
Any suggestions on how I might be able to get the phone to boot into recovery mode would be extremely appreciated.
Thanking you for your time.
I was wondering if anyone could give me a little help with my Note 10.1.
The model I've got is a prototype and has a couple of differences from the final release model. Most notably, it's missing the IR output and the S Pen is more like the Note smartphone's.
On the software side, it appears to be running a Korean rom of ICS 4.0.4, though the system language is set to English. The build is N8010XXALF2. I've done some searches but can only seem to find ALF2 under SGS3 software. Also, the system serial number is all 0s
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on whether/how I could update to JB. The Note claims it has no updates available, Kies on Mac says it doesn't support updates for it, and Kies on Windows perpetually tries to install some tiny update which just fails.
Is there some way I can backup the currently installed rom so I can try to install some others and then restore to the status quo if the installation fails? The download mode seems to be intact so I guess I can install stuff from Odin, but I haven't tried yet. I'd like to minimise my chances of bricking the device if possible, as everything's in working order at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any help!

If its the prototype then there is no update... If you try any upgrade software you will end up with a brick...
The general public wasn't supposed to get the prototype and it's a completely different animal from the finished Note 10.1... You may as well try a Note 2 rom on your Note 10.1 and see what happens....
As it wasn't put in production there has been NO developement of the Android system for it... You're stuck with what's on it...

That was what I feared. Thanks for your help I was hoping that since it seems like a late prototype that I could get newer software. Maybe I'll try it if I get a new tablet

It's actually got the final Exynos 4 Quad, so it seems like quite a late prototype. The dual core was very early in development. The fact that it thinks it's an N8010 means it was probably late too.
I worked at Samsung a couple of years ago and have a number of friends who work there
Let me first explain the thought process that went on before this all happened:
I wanted to stream my Spotify from Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 to my smart TV via BubbleUPNP. But I couldn't do this for a number of reasons: my tablet wasn't a rooted device or running Android 4.1+ or had the Xposed framework. So I set to work trying to root my device and upgrade it to 4.1 in the process.
I used Odin to root my device and install the Xposed framework. This all went very smoothly and was impressed.
But the biggest error of all came when I tried to upgrade my Android version by Odin to about 4.1
+.
I managed to get what I thought was the correct ".tar" file. But part way through I was faced with an error message saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" so I tried using Samsungs own "Kies" to recover my device. But I soon found out this would be no help because "gt-p5100 does not support initializing." so this application was useless. I then done a bit more digging around on the internet and found out that I can simply restore my device with the correct file on Odin again.
I don't quite know exactly what happened next but I'm presuming I made a ridiculously stupid error and downloaded and loaded the wrong file onto my device. My device now thinks it's a 7" "GT-P3100."
With the tablet being completely useless because the touch screen no longer works because of the confusion between the models and I cannot find the correct files to load onto Odin for it to work either, mainly because I've given up on things to even search.
I am asking this because I've tried for hours with no luck and need help restoring my tablet back to a "GT-5100" so I can then root it on Odin and upgrade the OS to 4.1+.
Please also note I could not simply upgrade my OS by going into setting/about device/etc.
I can see how this stupidity can being funny to others but my simple accident has cost me dearly and I would appreciate some help from other.
Thanks,
Mike.
Hi,
Normally flashing firmware from another device that's not yours is a brick, especially with Samsung.... But hopefully because it's another tab 2 firmware, you can fix yours. But definitely exercise caution in the future.
The place most are getting Samsung firmware, especially older models is sammobile website.
Other than that, any links I found on XDA for it are dead.
You obviously know how to flash with Odin, so try sammobile and find your correct firmware.
If you have further issues, you should ask for help in your device section, here,
> Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 > Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Good luck!
Okay I was worried it could be bricked, but if I managed to get an error message on an install to then be able to simply change the model with the wrong file, I hoped I could almost mess up an install to get back to that stage to then be able to completely re-install my original correct files.
Thank you I will try Sammobile. I think that might've even been where I got the wrong file from in the first place.
Thanks a lot for your reply it fills me with hope knowing there might be a way to rectify my mistake.
First of all, I'd like to say that I know very little about how Android, electronics or mobile phones work in general, so everything I've done has been from internet tutorials. Please don't use any jargon as I probably won't know what you mean. ELI5.
A few days ago, I tried to root my phone and it didn't work. As a result the phone went into a boot loop and I didn't know how to fix it. The long and short of it was that I ended up flashing the stock firmware onto my phone and basically doing a complete factory reset. After some time trying this I managed to get the phone to start up and I was able to access the interface and all that. Unfortunately, my WiFi wasn't working (the button would simply turn off whenever I turned it on) so I had no way to download the most recent updates or apps or anything like that. After following several tutorials on how to fix this, such as flashing the modems and bootloader, I still wasn't having any luck. So I tried something that proved to cause even more problems - I tried to install a new kernel. Now my phone won't even boot past the logo. I probably didn't install the right one, but what can I say, it's not very clear which one I need.
Now I'd like to point out that as a layman who just wants his phone to work again, half of the time I don't understand what I'm doing or whether or not I'm doing it right. In other words, I realise that I've probably messed up my phone, but what can I do? I can't take it to a technician because I don't have the money for that, I can't buy a new phone for the same reason and I can't phone up and ask for a replacement because the warranty expired ages ago and I don't have the original documents here.
I've installed the Team Win Recovery Project on my phone and I have Odin installed on my PC as well.
TLDR; yes, I know I'm an idiot and I don't appreciate you telling me. I'd like to reset my phone to how it was before - the normal firmware, the normal kernel and all that, but I'd still like to have root access and keep the TWRP recovery mode too.
Model: Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
Model name: GALAXY S4 LTE

You'll probably need more information, so if you do just let me know and, if possible, where I can find it.
I have some good news. I managed to flash the firmware again and now I can access the phone again. However, the WiFi problem persists. I've tried looking on the internet for a solution, but I can't find one. I've tried flashing the modem and all that stuff, but it still doesn't work.
Oh, and by the way, I no longer have TWRP and I don't think I have root access anymore either (I had to do a data partition wipe as well).
I'd really appreciate a reply from someone. I've tried everything, but to no avail.
