[Q] How to backup my DesireS 2.3.5 with hboot 2.00.002 BEFORE unlocking? - HTC Desire S

hi,
how can i backup my contact, sms, apps, data, etc... before try unlocking my device?
the suggested methods are complicated and i'm worried about losing all my data...

For contacts and calendar items your Google account is the easiest AFAK.
For SMS there are some apps in market.
About app data you can try temp root with Superoneclick and install Titanium backup

GoSMS has a backup feature for texts. Works great, simply restore the backup you made when necessary.
If you have saved your contacts under your gmail account, they are backed up on the cloud.
For apps, try Astro file manager it can save them to your SD card but not their data. Some apps do store data on the SD card therefore may be available still after but this varies from app to app.

thank you for answers!
contact moved from phone to google account and sync...
smses backuped..
apps backuped.. but no app data..
soon i'll try downgrade!
@amidabuddha
titanium backup seens dosn't work for me, with or without superoneclick..

try MyBackup, i think it works without root

Why don't you try to attain TEMP Root (Shell Root) using the unlockroot program from http://unlockroot.com/index.htm, and once you have root, install Titanium Backup and back up everything from it (Make sure you set your Max Backup History as more than 1) ?? Superoneclick is also a very iffy method... I hope this unlockroot thing works out for you... I haven't tried it out myself, so i just hope it's actually of some use to you.
Titanium Backup works on every android ROM buddy... even on the ICS, i dunno why you should have any issues once you have root access...

I used my backup mate really easy to use and backs up almost everything without root access.
Doesn't save app data but wasn't a biggie for me as it was a new phone I was rooting.

Cant update stuck on UCKD5 HELP!

As the title states my phone is stuck with baseband version I997UCKD5. Everytime my phone trys to get a update it tells me that it cannot connect to ATT servers. My phone is rooted, is this why its not updating or do I have a defective phone. I have tried to find the answers for with no luck so if someone could please point me in the right direction that would be great.
this is typical att. it is not the phone. can you connect to odin? if you can then backup your apps with titanium backup then use odin to flash gtg's rooted ucke3 package, then backup the new rom with cwm (just good practice). if the apps are wiped then use titanium to reinstall them. it is not always a good idea to restore system data with titanium but i dont think there are significant system changes to prevent hat from working, id try it then if everything force closes id wipe user data in recovery and try it again without restoring system data.
I had the same problem even when i was UNrooted. I rooted my phone and updated to that Infused ROM. I then used the [ODIN][UCKE3] Return to stock download to return to stock and then I had the new update. Everything turned out fine, I had no problems afterwards. I then proceeded to UNroot the device and a day or 2 after that I recieved a new update but alas my phone STILL cannot connect to the servers.

yes, backup just in case. i dont know if gtg's package wipes but it probably does, actually id bet on it.
sometimes if the firmware is different restoring system data causes issues, what that means is you would lose your call logs and things. but if the app+system data restore causes issues you can just clear data in recovery mode and restore app+data rather than apps +all system data.
do you have contacts sync'd with google? att? if not export the contacts to a v-card on the sdcard. then import after the flash. but i recomend the gole contacts sync if you have want to set it up, sometimes simply setting it up on the phone doesnt work the first time. but once it is working it will restore contacts to any android phone you ever own and you can edit and merge contacts from the gmail website to keep it organized.

sorry i think i miss read something, i thought you meant "incase" hand you lose you apps to backup with titanium which would imply it would be before but now i see it says "if" which implies after the fact, sorry if my confussion caused you problems.
so you didn't do the backup before the flash? and all that apps are present but some force close? is this right? just for clerification
if the apps are still there you may just need to clear app data, this can be done in titanium or in setting> apps > manage apps> all go to each app individually and clear data. this will lose progress on games but not usually much else.
you may prefer to use titanium, to get titanium to work go to settings> apps > manage apps > 3rdparty/downloaded scroll down to titanium and clear data (this wont hurt the backups they are on the sd card)
if that doesnt work and you have access to the market then delete titanium and reinstall it.
im about to be away from my computer, if this doesnt get resolved contact me through pm and i will get back to it tonight. i will make every attempt to keep whatever apps you still have.

[Q] Saving data when switching roms

I want to switch roms in order to try out a new one but i have some apps and *messages* that i can't afford to lose. I don't want to use boot manager. If i backup my current rom will everything be the same if i want to revert back... even my messages?
Yes, everything will be the same if you do a nandroid backup in clockwork or 4ext.
Even messages.
Okay I am going to try now. thanks
Should check into "SMS Backup & Restore". I use this when flashing to carry over my text messages between ROMs. Use Titanium Backup for apps and app data, works well. I recommend the paid version, less hassle for restoring apps, set it and forget it!

+1 for this. I use the following apps to keep pretty much complete backups of my phone:
SMS Backup & Restore (runs nightly)
App Backup & Restore (runs nightly)
DropSpace (runs nightly)
Dropbox (to dump everything into)
Basically configure DropSpace to back up app settings and APKs, camera pics, navigation (trips, etc) and drop it all into your Dropbox account. App Backup & Restore saves the APK's from your Market apps, so after flashing a new ROM you can just browse your DropBox folder and install the APK directly
Obviously on top of this I always take a nandroid backup (which gets synced to my Dropbox) when flashing new ROMs.
+1 I'm doing the same thing, but I have no idea how to back up contacts...

Do you store contacts on the phone? I don't have any on the phone. They are in my two Gmail accounts.
You can move them from the phone into your Gmail account. In People, go Menu --> Move and follow the prompts.

[Q] 2.3.3

is there any way whatsoever that i can root 2.3.3 without downgrading. Im trying to root a friends phone but i dont want him to lose everything
Downgrading is pretty much your only option with 2.3.3. When You temp root before downgrading, you can always back everything up. Use titanium to backup apps and data and there are other apps for backing up text and such. Once you downgrade/root, flash a GB ROM and restore all the apps and such.

I think you can use MyBackup (free from the market) to backup contacts, along with a few other things.
He shouldn't lose anything so long as everything is backed up to google. Yes you might lose call log and some text msgs but this has happened to me so many times I'm over it.
You can backup your pictures by backup the DCIM folder on the SDcard.
I have written a guide on rooting ,backups and flashing roms here:

i use mobile backup 2 to backup contacts, calendar, text, and call logs. worked great for me

Question Root without phone resetting? Or backup app+it's data via adb or similar?

So I'm changing phones, but there's one app which I would have to backup including it's data. If I'd be rooted I could use Titanium Backup, unfortunately I'm not rooted.
Is there a way to root without wiping the phone or is there another way to backup the apps data (and restore) via adb or something else?
Google backup and restore is pretty good, it should restore your apps

But I need the actual data of the app, does that come with Google backup and restore?
App in question is WhatsApp and I need the app including the registration etc on the new phone. Titanium backup can do that, but obviously needs root
Whatsapp has its own backup and restore feature I use it all the time. It will restore all your data, chats etc but you have to log in first

I know... that's exactly the issue though. I'm asking for a way to backup 1:1 so I don't need to do the login. Which Titanium Backup can do since it's does it with all the apps data, but that obviously needs root which I don't have. Hence I'm asking for help here.
I found this which doesn't need root not sure how deep it goes though

For that I'd need a way to remove everything from the backup besides WhatsApp though. As that does a backup and restore of everything, all apps, all file system etc IIRC
Trying adb backup now, there seems to be a java tool that allows you to open the backup file on pc

Unfortunately WhatsApp wasn't included in the full backup for some reason
I just tried an app on play store called Swift Backup and it worked!
I made a backup of just whatsapp then deleted it and it restored it without signing in

I'm living in the UK for a few more months, but still use my German number on WhatsApp. The number has since been retired so I can't get SMS/calls on that one anymore, so I'm unable to sign in.
I wish I would've rooted the phone....

Is that the Samsung moving phones thingy? Does that move apps including it's data so you don't have to set them up again?
I usually avoid the moving data from phone to phone during setup, because I take setting up a new phone as an opportunity to clean up data/apps. So I only reinstall those I actually need
EDIT: Just tried it, sadly not:

Backup with ur whatsapp. Its too easy. Anyway, in case u cant do it, think u have to reset only single app (whatsapp - like ur screenshot), so u cant?

As mentioned in here, using the backup inside WhatsApp still needs you to sign in again on the new phone which isn't my goal. I want to backup ALL of WhatsApp including the sign in, so I can just move it to the new phone without logging in.

Then u have 2 options:
1 - Root your phone.
2 - Ask dev of Whatsapp to do something for u (for all too.lol). But i think it'll never come true. Its too risky for any apps.

Yeah thanks, I know it's possible with root which I don't have and doing it wipes the phone which makes my whole reason for this pointless.
This whole post was just asking if there's any way to do it without root. If you can't help don't reply?
