Backup & restore not working (help pls) - Sony Xperia XA Questions & Answers

Good day.
I cant restore my backup in sd card after unlocking bootloader. Is thia normal bc of the unlocking and rokting of the device?
Is there anyways yo make it work?
I tried installing other app from playstore to try restoring my backup but my backup file is not showing in other apps.
I wanna get atleast my contact backups :/
Any idea? Thanks in advance

Titanium backUp is best app for backup and restore and even you can create zip file for flash in recovery.
I unlocked and rooted my device and titanium work well.

[Q] Seamless move to different ROM with help of Titanium (how to?)

OK, so i have one mod and now i want to migrate to another mod.
I have a paid Titanium backup app and i know how to restore apps and their data, but i have a few questions:
1. i have customized my Titanium by having filters and backup schedules, how do i transfer these things to new mod? Reinstalling this app will get these settings lost
2. on a new mod - destination mod, how do i properly restore all the apps? Do i set to recover missing apps and app data only?
3. is it possible to get all the widgets and shortcuts on screens like i had before?
Do you mean ROM not MOD?
Not using titanium, but an easy way to back up your apps, and restore them on a new rom
If you download ext4 recovery from the market.
Find it on your phone install recovery touch beta 8
Do a backup of your current rom, and then when you flash a new rom.
Go back to recovery, choose restore
advance restore
restore only data.
It will restore all your apps etc, but keep the new rom.

Thank you, but still, there should be some other way to do that, since i might not restore all the apps, but just some of them, and i really want to have Titanium installed with the custom settings i as already use
As I understand Titanium backs up its own settings to he sd card. At least that's what mine does, I don't remember if I had to enable that in the settings though

Yeah, you have to enable it in the tb settings, otherwise it won't backup your tb settings.

I wouldn't rely on Titanium specially if you have ICS. I would use nandroid or CWM backup and restore data. You will get your Titanium as is too. You can always delete unwanted apps but if you can't restore that a diffrent story.

Im not 100%, but i think so
I'm not an expert but had done a few restore now after trying ics n goin back to gb. So with titanium, u do a restore missing apps n data...u can still deselect the app u don't want to restore
After that, u can restore some system data (in green) individually which includes ur txt msg, account info. Some can mess things up..like I restore the bookmark from gb to ics, n it crash in ics when opening bookmark
But others seems ok. To get all ur icons organized like b4, I restored the desktop one....these shld all b done just for the data if u r given a choice.
That's kinda my experience n it seems to b working ok now after I restore back to gb

Anyone ever tried nandroid backup with gingerbread, then upgrading to ICS and then trying to restore the data partition?
I'm only asking because in this case (my case) most of the restored apps keep FC-ing. Everything else is restored perfectly - call lists, sms, mms, contacts list, favourite lists, backgrounds, sounds, ringtones... - you name it, it's there. So everything besides a lot of apps after restoring from nandroid works perfect even after upgrading from GB to ICS.
SO... any suggestions how to fix the apps FCs problem restoring from nandroid data partition? Thanx
Yes you can save titanium setting to ad card and it will restore by itself. Go to preference and tick first option auto synchronized TB setting. All done

Unfortunately, i did that but it didn't work. I have the setting ticked, but i installed ICS 4.0.3 ROM and now i have a fresh Titanium Backup without any settings i had

1. you could always use a secondary backup app like System Tuner Pro to backup your applications (particularly Titanium backup) then installing System Tuner Pro first then use it to Restore Titanium to the right working order.
2. I don't get this question.
3. Sadly, No

I don't think it is a good idea restoring GB data partition onto ICS. It is known to screw up the system/applications. Your applications need to be optimised so if you flashed it, the optimisation process may be skipped or cancelled out when you flash the data partition.

[Q] Contacts Restore corruption, please HELP.

Hi to everyone.
I am Tommaso, from Tokyo and I need help BIG time.
I backed up all my contacts on my SD card and deleted them from my phone.
When I restored them some "fields" were missing, amongst them "organization" which is vital for sorting: Now I get a long list of numbers (*) and then the remaining contacts sorted by name (correctly). (*) In these contacts the "organization", "Job Position" and others are missing while others as "notes" and numbers are still there.
When I try to send an email, and I try to look up an email address, instead of giving me a list of names, it opens File Expert, with a file address: fe://home and nothing else.
To back up I used Go Contacts (the stock app is disinstalled): export to SD card.
In theory, besides this original backup, I should also have a second back up with Titanium because it is set to backup & syncs with dropbox everything, every night. However, this happened last night and I forgot to freeze the image so I am afraid that tonight's back up might have replaced the correct version.
hTC Desire HD.
GB 2.3.5
Sense 3.5
CoreDroid 9.2 GB 2.3.5
I would really appreciate someone's help. You can imagine how dramatic it is, so TIA for any help.
Tommaso
Idea
Why not first use the back up to restore your phone first then
Go ahead and check the things inside the back up
Sorry if i am wrong it sounds like you are actually checking the contacts on the back up itself rather than letting the phone restore the back up and then viewing the contents
if i am wrong sorry for the speculation
I would like to ask also try using other Apps to restore Back up and restore
I would ask also what is the file output that you have ?
for your back up ?
Thank you for your post!
I did as you suggest: I physically restored the contacts to the phone.
Ok, I will try to install another app but it is unlikely anything will change: I backed up using Go Contacts so restoring with Go Contacts should have worked.
Go Contacts backup file is "vcf"
Titanium backup file I don't know what it's called or where to find it.

Did you say that your Titanium Backup for the contacts was already overwritten?
If you have set up Titanium to backup your apps/data automatically on a schedule, you should preferably set the backup history to more than 1. This is in case there is an error in one of your apps, and the automatic backup saves the erroneous version, you can restore an older backup from the history. Otherwise, your last backup will also be corrupted.
If your think your Titanium Backup for Contacts is fine, you don't need to look for the contacts file separately. Just go into titanium backup -> clcik on the back/up restore tab on the top -> look for Contacts -> Click once -> Click on Restore.
Repeat the above for Contacts Storage.
Not sure if I addressed your problem.
Thanks for your help!
I tried to restore from titanium back but I could only find GoContatcs. I cannot find "contacts storage". As I said, I have no idea if AND where GoContacts stores the contacts separately so i don't know which file to look for to restore.
I restored GoContacts (app+Data) but 0 contacts were restored.
Thanks for the tip. I am now setting Titanium BU to 2 backups. But I still need help!
Restore ROM Manager Backup
If I restore a previously backed up ROM, will this include contacts?
To restore a previously backed up ROM, do I need to FIRST factory reset the device? Or does the restore simply overwrite my present ROM? Do I need any other precaution/procedure to restore a previous ROM?

[Q] Restoring Titanium backup

Hi,
Before changing ROM from stock to Paranoid Android, I did a backup with Titanium and restored everything successfully. The only thing that I can't restore are the contacts. A popup tells me that it was done with a different ROM, but I ignore the prompt, and continue with the restore. However the contacts are not shown in my Contacts app or in the telephone directory. Unfortunately with the stock ROM I hadn't synched with Google, so I'm asking for any ideas how I could get this backup to restore... One option maybe is to go back to stock, do a Google synch, and then move back to Paranoid Android, but that would involve too much work... I don't know maybe the Titanium backup could be converted so as to be readable in Excel and I copy them manually??
Thanks for your help!
Try another tbkp version...
Me too, but now i use google contact and my contact already restore after login in playstore

Hi, what do you mean using another Titanium backup version? The backup was done with the same Titanium version. The problem is that it was made with a different ROM and wouldn't restore in the new ROM.

[Q] Textsecure backup issue -nandroid

Hey, I'm in a bit of a bind.
I updated cyanogenmod yesterday, and stupidly didn't do a nandroid beforehand or use titanium backup. I had to wipe because it was boot looping.
The only thing I really want is my textsecure SMSs. After it bootlooped, I did a nandroid of the broken system and then wiped and reflashed hoping to extract out of the nandroid.
I first tried the process using Titanium Backup, and then Nandroid Manager. Titanium backup crashes when trying to restore anything. Nandroid Manager app can successfully restore apps from the nandroid backup, however if I try that with Textsecure, Textsecure just force closes when i try to open it.
Considering I still have an intact backup of my old system, just not able to be booted into, do you think there is any way I can get my TextSecure messages back. My last titanium backup was over 9 months ago, so I'd rather not lose that.
Device is a OnePlus One. Using TWRP and CM12 Nightlies
1.Power on your phone
2.connect to pc go in sdcard which is internal storage
3.Then find titanium backup folder copy into your pc
4.Grab other phone install titanium app in it
5.put that copied titanium backup folder
On new phone and copy paste that exect folder on same location its will ask you to over write press yes
I dont what app u using textsecure sms but if you install that u will be able to get every thing back

don't forget to hit thanks ☺???
Thanks for the reply.
The titatnium backup I have is easily accessible, however its a really old backup (from last year), what I'm trying to get is the two day old textsecure data out of the nandroid backup.
I dont about text secure app is its a app or system app
These app create backup in its self in there text secure folder in root directory
But they are encrypted u cant get those msgs specifically recent msg becoz they are encrypted in root directory app data
Only solution to fix your phone
Extracting data from nandroid backup is very tricky and u not might get successfully
Thanks

I managed to get it fixed. I'll put some details in case anyone else gets this issue in the future.
A lot of the apps, at least ones with some kind of database were force closing after using the Nandroid Manager app to extract the app out of the nandroid. Other ones included pocketcasts.
Trying to use fix permissions in TWRP just caused a bootloop and i had to restore again.
I did however find that the "Fix Permissions" app by Stericson allowed me to fix the permissions of individual apps, I tried it on pocketcasts first and it stopped FCing, after restoring Textsecure, I fixed the permissions on it and it now works.

Hi, try an app called migrate from the play store. Works very well.
I need restore app for backup beacose this app have key to restore account
Migrate, uses root access to back up all your app with thier data .
Restoring it is a breeze. Just Flash your backup file in TWRP reboot then restore using the app.
ok but i have to get the apps out of the backup

Nope , you dont. Just restore the app in question with its data via the migrate app itself. You have the option to restore only what you want or everything. I used this for my banking app as well. Worked every time.
