[HELP] How to change misc_version of my HTC - HTC Desire S

Hi,
I can't turn on my phone which still on fastboot usb mode.
Phone is S-ON and not rooted, has hboot 0.98.0002.
I can't use RUU to flash my phone because the misc version is 12.10.401.5. I'm trying to change it but i cannot. Also, I can't use recovery because I've done a full wipe.
When I use commands "adb devices", there is no device. But, When I used FastbootCommanderV.1.51, I can see my device.
I can see now on phone:
***Security warning***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0002
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-boot
Mar 30 2011,17:29:31
FASTBOOT USB ...
Please, help me.

I tried RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8 but I've Error 140 about bootloader.

Problems come from bootloader which is locked. I've not recovery mode and can't do anything because phone is S-ON and not rooted.

To change it use this procedure
Give some info how did you came to this situation. It is strange to have this version with the old booltoader.

Yes, I want to give you more details but I'm not fluent in english. So I try to tell you better I can.
Phone had Endymion v3.1 rom. I noticed today that I couldn't take pictures. So I try to install another rom. After format all partition (without sdcard) and a full wipe, I flash hboot with original hboot 0.98.002. The phone has rebooted by mistake (poor handling). Unfortunately, phone become S-ON and can't do anything.

I look the procedure but don't understand:
3. tempRoot with zergRush, change version with misc_version
Click to collapse
1. I downloaded only zergRush.zip and copy file into zip into c:\downgrade. Is it correct?
2. I can't connect phone in debug mode. How can I do?
Thanks.

Wow. Anyway there is no undo here
1) Try to S-OFF with Revolutionary
2) Flash this hboot
3) Download a RUU for your region from here and run it on your PC
For step 3 is best to be sure that the RUU is the proper one. Connect your phone to PC (you need fastboot configured - see in my signature). Then type in command prompt:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
paste the output here

You cannot flash hboot with S-ON. DO not try to flash European RUU either. Yours is RUU_Saga_Bouygues_FR_1.31.1020.2_Radio_20.28c.30.0805U_38.03.02.16_M_release_179953_signed.exe
Since you deleted everything and no adb your last resort is a goldcard. Find someone with the same software version as you to give you a cid number. Make a Goldcard put it in your phone, run the RUU on the PC and hope for the best

same problem buy a xtc clip
hi fullbert
i had the same problem as you are having now,i also did everything the same way as you did ,i even went to http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=revolutionary but no one even took the time to answer/help me, think there are only bots in there. so the last thing i could do was buy me a xtc clip and i managed to get my phone S-OFF again.
problem with the RUU roms is that you cant install because of the INFOversion-main: 12.10.401.5,it always says main version is older.

People know that it's a problem with INFOversion-main,so our developpers have perphaps something about it to solve my problem, isn't it?

well no solution i tried worked and i have done a lot of flashing and couldnt use adb commands as fastboot did work but got security problem or remote not allowed main version is older and i was S-ON but i hoop the devs can help you .

I hope and wait because it's will be difficult for me to get ou use xtc-clip before july 2012. So, I wait another solution.

[SOLVED] Please help *Security Warning* in Hboot

Hi please could somebody help me, I have a Desire S which I got on contract from 02 with a 02 branded rom on there originally and hboot 0.98.0002.
I had S-off, 4ext recovery, upgraded to hboot 2.00.0002 and a custom rom installed.
I have flashed a offical RUU RUU_Saga_O2_UK_1.31.206.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.14_M_release_178935_signed.exe
and now I am stuck in hboot and it says **security warning** hboot version 0.98.000
I tried to flash the above o2 RUU again but it says bootloader version error, So I tried RUU 1.28, 1.47 and 2.10 with a gold card in the phone but the same error all the time.
I have also extracted the rom.zip from each of these and put it onto the goldcard renamed to PG88IMG.zip but then this says MAIN VERSION OLDER and will not flash.
Now I am really stuck on what I need to do, do I need to flash a 0.98.0002 hboot? as at the momment I have 0.98.000, if so how can I do this?
I have lost 4ext recovery, and back to S-On.
If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful.
Thank you in advance
Cheers
edit: I think the bootloader I currently have on the phone 0.98.000 is incorrect ? , it should be 0.98.0000 or 0.98.0002? . As the hboot is S-ON is there anyway I can flash a hboot through using adb, or does it have to be S-OFF, if so is there anyway I can S-OFF in bootloader or fastboot alone, as I can't do anything else.
I think that the O2 RUU that you have used has an older hboot version (0.98.0000) than the version that was on your phone when you s-offed.
But with the Goldcard you should be able to flash it. So try another SDcard to create a goldcard, as far as I know not each one is suitable.
Do not try RUU for other brands/regions you may end up with a bricked device.

Hi thanks for your reply, I currently have 0.98.000 hboot on the phone now which is S-ON. My gold card seems to be working as it doesn't say any CID errors.
How can I tell if my device is bricked?
I can only get into hboot, and fastboot/stock recovery. The phone won't do anything else and I can't flash any rom as it says about the bootloader version, but on the bootloader it says **security warning** at the top. Is there anyway I can flash a newer hboot? or won't it let me as it is S-ON, if its S-ON will I be able to flash a hboot or even 4ext recovery to flash a rom?
If so how can I s-off just using bootloader and fastboot?
I thought goldcard is only to bypass the CID checks so you can flash a debranded RUU.
It is not exactly clear: have you tried to extract the rom.zip from the O2 RUU, rename to PG88IMG.zip and flash in hboot?
Also you have to be completely sure that your version is the O2 one.
Follow the guide in my signature to make fastboot working on your PC.
Then connect your device to the PC while in the hboot. There should be 'FASTBOOT USB' written on the phone screen.
Then open a command prompt on your PC and type:
Code:
fastboot devices {your serial number should appear}
fastboot getvar all
Post here the output that is printed in the cmd.

Thank you for your help with this
Try to put last rom.zip on sdcard with PG88IMG.zip name from version 2.10.401.8 RUU and maybe you will have new hboot 2.00.2002 and then have to unlock hboot from http://htcdev.com/.

Cannot tell that it's bricked but now your software version is 2.10.401.4.
So you have to use a European RUU with the same version or higher. Probably you have debranded your device without an intention to do so.
Try with the RUU. If this is not working maybe you can try to flash hboot through the fastboot.

There isn't a 2.10.401.4 version, but there is a
RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed.exe

also would I be able to flash a hboot being S-ON do you think?
I'm not sure how low my battery is also, If I plug it into the charger will it charge the phone on the bootloader do you know?

Ok so we have a nice mess here.
Your hboot and radio are still from the O2 RUU, but the main version changed to the European one. The cid is still O2 one (but with the goldcard it should not matter).
The security warning gives a chance that you are still able to have root.
So if you can enter the recovery you may be able to use adb as root.
Do the procedure, described here
If you can get the misc.img, after opening with Hex editor change the numbers to 1.31.206.1. Save the file, copy it to you SDcard and from adb flash it back:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
Then try the O2 RUU again.
Do not make attempts to change the hboot yet. Try the above and post back
The phone should be charging when you connect it to your PC.

Hi there, I have tried adb devices but it doesn't come up with my device which is strange. Maybe because my device is S-ON?
Do you think if I took it to a mobile repair shop and had it jtagged to restore original software would do the trick?
thanks
Both adb and fastboot commands are working on S-ON devices.
To use adb your device should be in Recovery mode (you can enter there from the hboot menu).
Of course you can bring it to a repair shop if you do not want to mess it yourself.

Obviously adb is not working in Recovery on S-ON devices. Sorry for misleading. I have just tried on my device, the adb works while booted to OS but not in Recovery.
I am afraid that doing anything further can brick the phone completely and the repair shop is your best option.

no commands are accepted in HBOOT and fastboot
You are trying to flash with fastboot commands from HBOOT screen, and have been unable or too lazy to figure it out by a simple Google search with the words you're reading as the command fails.
Open Youtube, look for a video of any HTC phone that shows how to flash using fastboot, do the same.
Learning to search before posting will save you days that you will spend waiting for answers.
that's what you think, I often flash htc to learn better android system and specially the htc
I typed all the errors I got on google and I still have not found the right solution
So if anyone can help me ...
Identify your hboot version fron your phone's screen.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
hboot: 0.98.0002
Thank's
Strange version. It's not eng HBOOT (eng is 0.98.2000), so fastboot won't work and isn't expected to.
Get into fastboot mode, and flash an RUU (run RUU.exe). Write down and post the error from the log.
when I try to install an RUU it gets stuck on "Trying to reboot in bootloader" and the phone remains locked until I removed the battery
thank you very much

Looks like xtcclip S-OFF. IMO there's no way to go back to S-ON.
Try to flash an ENG hboot like 2.00.2002 to be able to flash others parts like recovery or any partition.

Even though you start RUU in FASTBOOT screen?
In that case, I don't know if any help can be given. If it locks up upon any attempt to reboot it - something is deeply wrong with it.
And yes, looks like you're unlocked by XTC-clip, it's the only way to get SuperCID (cid=11111111). So no S-ON will be possible anyway. Try to use the warranty on this phone.

Try to flash an ENG hboot like 2.00.2002 to be able to flash others parts like recovery or any partition.

I tried to flash some HBOOT with this command "fastboot flash HBOOT hboot.img" but I always had the same error message
if you can give me a link to download eng HBOOT and a good method for flash would be nice
thank you

In that case, I don't know if any help can be given. If it locks up upon any attempt to reboot it - something is deeply wrong with it.
And yes, looks like you're unlocked by XTC-clip, it's the only way to get SuperCID (cid=11111111). So no S-ON will be possible anyway. Try to use the warranty on this phone.

yes, I run the RUU in fastbootusb
For the rest I do sauraus tell you how he was flashed
For the warranty I think it is not possible, there is no service htc here, the phone was purchased in another country
You think that there is no solution or there is still hope?
thank you
You could try with the file attached. Rename it PG88IMG.zip, put it on the root of sdcard, reboot bootloader and hit power to accept the update. And ofc hope.
the phone does not want to turn on! and it's not mine!
Is there a way to recover it?!
thank you
P.S: I do not know if the battery has discharged completely, either because I took the battery while the phone was on the htc logo

If you have no led when charging, no vibration, nothing. You have probably fried your emmc chip while pulling out the battery. This is a known problem with the desire S and the worst case as you need to change the motherboard.
when I start charging the red light comes on, and when I remove the charger it stays always on
, but no vibration
Is there a solution to turn it on again?
thank you

Sensation not booting into android...radio missing ?

Hey guys,
Recently got a sensation, and i am stuck on the HTC screen.
I was able to get the bootloader unlocked, and installed CWM with no issues. I install roms, but after reboot, it just stays stuc at the white HTC screen.
For some reason, my phone has a unlocked bootloader, has S-ON and will not boot into ANYTHING besides the bootloader and CWM.
Ive tried many stock roms for it, with no luck !
I have also tried flashing boot.img and the PG185 file with ADB, which starts working, but for image i get a error that says FAILED - Remote signature verify failed.
So, how can i get S OFF ? And also i think my radio went MIA ! Here is the info :

I have flashed many phones like the HD2, Galaxy SII and the Galaxy Nexus with ZERO problems ! I just find this one a bit hard and i have been trying for HOURS (atleast 7-10 hours =/)
Any help will be APPRECIATED !
You should use the tool at http://revolutionary.io to obtain S-OFF then flash a 3.33 firmware from the thread in the dev section. Then you can flash a ROM. The reason its not booting now is because ICS ROM's wont boot on GB firmware, hence the need to flash the 3.33 firmware

Do you have 4ext recovery? I was having the same problem even with s-off I couldn't boot any Rom but the one I had all I had to do was flash a kernel throughy recovery with smart flash eneabled after installing a Rom and also download superwipe and flash that before flashing a Rom I did all these steps to get a Rom booted up

I dont have 4EXT...how can i flash that ?
I was able to flash a stock recovery img to the phone via ADB. That worked..and CWM is now missing.
I tried looking for 4EXT..but couldnt find it. Can i flash that via ADB as well ?

Search the market for 4EXT
or search the dev section for 4EXT (I know for a fact that there is a thread in the dev section for it, its just a few pages in so use the search function)
Jonny,
I did see it on the market, but since its a APK, i cant download and use it.
How can i flash it through ADB ? as that is the only option i think i have. Even CWM is gone now, unless i flash that through ADB too...
Ok,
I have now gotten 4EXT to work on the phone. I am still S-ON and running 1.18 hboot. I tried to flash again through ADB with no luck. How can i obtain S-OFF without having a rom ? I even tried o install a GB Rom, and the same stuff happens, HTC white screen, then reboot.
I know i am a bit closer to success !

I tried to flash 1.17 and 1.27 with no luck
With s on when you flash you will also need to enable smart flash in your 4ext recovery.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
so,
Boot into RECOVRY
ENABLE 4EXT smart flash
install rom
reboot ?
I did that with no luck. On my 1.18 hboot i tried installing a stock ics rom, and also a GB rom

How did you phone end up in that state? You can only run a RUU that matches your phone's region. To run other RUUs, you need to make a goldcard. You run RUUs from fastboot, not recovery.

The RUU comes with a bootloader. If you use the newest RUU your bootloader will update as well. I don't know all the RUUs, but there's an index thread in the development forums with a link to a bunch of RUUs. If you cant find a matching one make a goldcard. There's a thread for that in General, I think. And it should match the phone region, not your current region. So it depends where the phone came from.

Put your phone in fastboot mode, hook it up to the computer, find fastboot in the SDK in your computer, open a command line prompt, type "fastboot getvar all", paste it here, and make sure to delete the IMEI line. Also, how did your phone get in that state?

It doesn't take that long to get into bootloader. I thought of unlocking the bootloader before installing RUU which didn't work. I got an error on the step that involved token....I tried several time and still got that error. I read about that problem and thought its because of my Hboot version. U said ealier I needed to update my hboot.
I can't even turn on usb debugging or but the phone on charge default. If that was possible I could S-off and flash rom.
I can't use htcdev to unlock bootloader, I can't install RUU, I can't flash recovery because am S-on and am still stuck at white screen. I feel am losing this phone now...
1. You did not make or try to make a goldcard like I said.
2. You did not post the results of fastboot getvar all like I asked.
3. You cluttered up the forums with not one but two new threads instead of continuing in the one you already have.
Reported and giving up.

I got it in this state from a friend when he volunteered to S-off. Messed up the phone and he has no clue how to fix it.
Am S-on, can't install RUU...tried about 6 different RUUs always ending in Error 130 (wrong ID model). So am trying to create a gold card. But it seem as you said... I need a working phone. I got a working phone got the CID and Reverse CID but can't go paste it in the next step which involve opening up the website because the website seem to not to be working. Am left without how to obtain the IMG image to patch my card and use it to install the RUU rom.
What do I do from here?

[HELP] Messed up with HBOOT. Fail-PU

UPDATE: Phone is in QHSUSB_DLOAD mode. I've tried HTC Unbricking Project but it didn't detect my phone. Also I've tired the Ultimate Recovery tool Unbrick and it also didn't help.
I guess the only solution is JTAG / New phone.
Hello,
I think I'm in a real big trouble.
background story:
I was on ARHD 7.3, S-off, Firmware 3.33 Uni. Suddenly after about a month of use, phone started to lose signal. I could recover the signal only with a reboot (hidden menu options and airplane mode didn't help).
I thought it was a problem with the ROM so I've installed an Official RUU RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.33.401.153 after installing 3.33.401.x firmware. This didn't solve the problem I had, signal still was going off few times a day and each time I had to reboot. Furthermore, I've lost my IMEI Number, I got a new IMEI number 355195000000017 which I googled and found more people with that number. However the IMEI change didn't interrupt anything.
Realizing that RUU didn't help I've decided to go back to Mike's ROM ARHD 7.3. (after unlocking bootloader again and etc..)
Then the problem started:
com.google.process.gapps and acore.process.android and basically all the phone started to crash. Nothing helped, I've tried to reflash ROM, reflash Google Package, Nothing. Suddenly, the phone was bricked. won't charge, won't boot.
However a very strange thing happened. Suddenly I could boot Into HBOOT (maybe the phone didn't had enough battery power before).
But the HBOOT was getting stuck, I couldn't do anything So I've used the Ultimate Recovery Tool and downgraded my HBOOT. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653777)
The Problem now:
1. I can go to 4EXT recovery but it won't let me flash any ROM, installing is aborted.
2. HBOOT won't let me flash any recovery, boot, etc saying permission denined.
3. Rebooting bootloader doesn't work, it goes just to a black screen with backlight on.
4. I've tried to change firmware with PG58IMG it won't update saying hboot partition update failed failed-pu
5.I've tried to install the previous RUU @fastboot but it says battery power below 30%. I've checked the voltage it was around 3800~ and in the recovery it had like 50% so I don;t think problem lies here.
Information about HBOOT:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.49.0007 <--- Bad Bad HBOOT, I know I did a mistake here. This Hboot is for Evo 3D GSM.
RADIO-11.24.3504.31_M
OPENDSP- BLAH BLAH BLAH

I don't think I have SuperCID. when I type the command fastboot getvar cid and getvar all I see the CID number is 0418.
However, when I type fastboot oem readcid I get 11111111.
I've tried to change to superCID but again, permission denined.
I'm thinking maybe if I could somehow change the superCID then I could update the firmware and then I could run the RUU?
Or can I somehow via linux box flash a different HBOOT?
Thank everyone who read this long story
I would be truly grateful for anyone who tries to help me.

man is a serious problem AFAIK
did you try to reflash ruu.exe or install 3.33 universal firmware again?
did they show you failed-pu again?
edit: what hboot version is that?
edit 2: why did you use a tool from htc evo 3D forum?
since you are on S-OFF and supercid you could use any ruu.exe you wanted including GB's one
that would take care also of your hboot version(gingerbread ruu->hboot downgrade)
Thanks for your reply,
