[SOLVED] Please help *Security Warning* in Hboot - HTC Desire S

Hi please could somebody help me, I have a Desire S which I got on contract from 02 with a 02 branded rom on there originally and hboot 0.98.0002.
I had S-off, 4ext recovery, upgraded to hboot 2.00.0002 and a custom rom installed.
I have flashed a offical RUU RUU_Saga_O2_UK_1.31.206.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.14_M_release_178935_signed.exe
and now I am stuck in hboot and it says **security warning** hboot version 0.98.000
I tried to flash the above o2 RUU again but it says bootloader version error, So I tried RUU 1.28, 1.47 and 2.10 with a gold card in the phone but the same error all the time.
I have also extracted the rom.zip from each of these and put it onto the goldcard renamed to PG88IMG.zip but then this says MAIN VERSION OLDER and will not flash.
Now I am really stuck on what I need to do, do I need to flash a 0.98.0002 hboot? as at the momment I have 0.98.000, if so how can I do this?
I have lost 4ext recovery, and back to S-On.
If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful.
Thank you in advance
Cheers
edit: I think the bootloader I currently have on the phone 0.98.000 is incorrect ? , it should be 0.98.0000 or 0.98.0002? . As the hboot is S-ON is there anyway I can flash a hboot through using adb, or does it have to be S-OFF, if so is there anyway I can S-OFF in bootloader or fastboot alone, as I can't do anything else.

I think that the O2 RUU that you have used has an older hboot version (0.98.0000) than the version that was on your phone when you s-offed.
But with the Goldcard you should be able to flash it. So try another SDcard to create a goldcard, as far as I know not each one is suitable.
Do not try RUU for other brands/regions you may end up with a bricked device.

Hi thanks for your reply, I currently have 0.98.000 hboot on the phone now which is S-ON. My gold card seems to be working as it doesn't say any CID errors.
How can I tell if my device is bricked?
I can only get into hboot, and fastboot/stock recovery. The phone won't do anything else and I can't flash any rom as it says about the bootloader version, but on the bootloader it says **security warning** at the top. Is there anyway I can flash a newer hboot? or won't it let me as it is S-ON, if its S-ON will I be able to flash a hboot or even 4ext recovery to flash a rom?
If so how can I s-off just using bootloader and fastboot?
I thought goldcard is only to bypass the CID checks so you can flash a debranded RUU.

It is not exactly clear: have you tried to extract the rom.zip from the O2 RUU, rename to PG88IMG.zip and flash in hboot?
Also you have to be completely sure that your version is the O2 one.
Follow the guide in my signature to make fastboot working on your PC.
Then connect your device to the PC while in the hboot. There should be 'FASTBOOT USB' written on the phone screen.
Then open a command prompt on your PC and type:
Code:
fastboot devices {your serial number should appear}
fastboot getvar all
Post here the output that is printed in the cmd.

Hi, I have done the fastboot commands you said and below are the numbers I got:
fastboot devices - serial number which came up is: HT15NTJ00403
fastboot getvar version-main: 11.10.401.4
Can you help me?
Do you think my phone is bricked?
Thank you for your help with this

Try to put last rom.zip on sdcard with PG88IMG.zip name from version 2.10.401.8 RUU and maybe you will have new hboot 2.00.2002 and then have to unlock hboot from http://htcdev.com/.

Cannot tell that it's bricked but now your software version is 2.10.401.4.
So you have to use a European RUU with the same version or higher. Probably you have debranded your device without an intention to do so.
Try with the RUU. If this is not working maybe you can try to flash hboot through the fastboot.

Hi, I have tried RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_225161_signed.exe using the RUU on the laptop and tried extracting the rom.zip, renaming as PG88IMG.zip and flashing off sd card (goldcard), but the RUU said bootloader version error and flashing the PG88IMG.zip says main version older error.
There isn't a 2.10.401.4 version, but there is a
RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed.exe
I would of thought the 2.10.401.8 should of worked?
also would I be able to flash a hboot being S-ON do you think?
I'm not sure how low my battery is also, If I plug it into the charger will it charge the phone on the bootloader do you know?
Thanks

Ok so we have a nice mess here.
Your hboot and radio are still from the O2 RUU, but the main version changed to the European one. The cid is still O2 one (but with the goldcard it should not matter).
The security warning gives a chance that you are still able to have root.
So if you can enter the recovery you may be able to use adb as root.
Do the procedure, described here
If you can get the misc.img, after opening with Hex editor change the numbers to 1.31.206.1. Save the file, copy it to you SDcard and from adb flash it back:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
Then try the O2 RUU again.
Do not make attempts to change the hboot yet. Try the above and post back
The phone should be charging when you connect it to your PC.

Hi there, I have tried adb devices but it doesn't come up with my device which is strange. Maybe because my device is S-ON?
Do you think if I took it to a mobile repair shop and had it jtagged to restore original software would do the trick?
thanks

Both adb and fastboot commands are working on S-ON devices.
To use adb your device should be in Recovery mode (you can enter there from the hboot menu).
Of course you can bring it to a repair shop if you do not want to mess it yourself.

Obviously adb is not working in Recovery on S-ON devices. Sorry for misleading. I have just tried on my device, the adb works while booted to OS but not in Recovery.
I am afraid that doing anything further can brick the phone completely and the repair shop is your best option.

I can't get adb to see the device, fastboot will do though but won't flash hboot, it says remote signature fail.
Looks like im going to have to send the phone off to be J Tagged. I have found a shop that does this for £24.99 and they know there stuff.
But if anyone has anymore ideas please let me know.
Thank you amidabuddha for your help, I will keep you updated on any progress.

[Tutorial] [Discontinued] How to restore stock ROM and S-On after AlphaRevX S-Off

I am sorry to announce, but I am pulling this tutorial. Tutorial is not meant for branded phones and recently I am getting few of those asking for help!
Sorry unbranded device owners, but my intention is to have brick free world!
Have a nice day! And safe flashing.
P.s. FYI, new boot loader can be unlocked using htcdev.com and locked again using the same.

good to know if somthing goes wrong and must be done in warranty time
can I use your guide for my thread ? I will give you credit.. thanks.
Why not do it the easy way since you're already S-OFF?
Take the ENG HBOOT found here and put the PG88IMG.zip in the root of your SD card
Boot into the bootloader (Volume Down + POWER)
Go into FASTBOOT mode
The bootloader will automagically detect your new HBOOT and install it
After rebooting your phone you can install any RUU you want. That will bring HBOOT back to the installed original
Make sure you make a good backup up front and be carefull what RUU to flash. The newer ones will overwrite HBOOT with version 0.98.0002, which, up to this date, can't be put to S-OFF yet by Alpharevx. I recommand you install the oldest RUU version you can find. A list of original ROMS can be found here
Good luck!
@nodeffect
Feel free.
@jorgen2009
such approach won't work with Alpharev hboot. They appear to have kinda locked it by making it appear ar 6.x Hboot version. That means, that bootloader will bypass upgrade. Been there, tried that, didn't work

The original ENG HBOOT didn't work if i recall correctly. Redownload the ENG-HBOOT and you'll notice the version has changed to a number higher than Alpharev's. It DOES work now, in fact, my phone is S-ON again as we speak
Will have to try that again.

just check again in fastboot, ENG HBOOT version has changed to 6.98.2000 iirc. After running the RUU it should be 0.98.0000 again as ENG HBOOT can be overwritten in contrast to the AlphaRevX HBOOT. If you only want ENG HBOOT don't flash the RUU obviously

With thanks to user Murchelago for providing adb method to restore stock boot and HTC for providing RUU's here is step by step, how to return to stock after Alpharevx S-Off.
Prerequisites:
Debugging mode on
Root access
Hboot.img (attached)
RUU for stock restore. Can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
How to:
1. Put the hboot.img you want to flash in the root of the sdcard.
2. In cmd run the following commands (after each command press enter):
adb devices
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot bootloader
3. RUN Downloaded RUU
4. You are on stock again!
After running ADB commands and rebooting into bootloader, you will get security warning. This is normal, just continue with flashing RUU.
Worked for me perfectly 3 times without any issues. However issues might occur and I can not take any responsibility for them. Use this tutorial on your own responsibility

I can confirm that you CANNOT just RUU a device. As the name implies, ROM Update Utility.
I followed everything on the first page and can confirm that I've successfully reverted back to HBOOT 0.98.0000.
AFAIK my phone was flashed with the hTC_Asia_WWE_1.31.707.2 on stock.
I tried to RUU using the oldest firmware that I can find, HTC_Europe_1.28.401.1. But it gave me the error 131 (AFAIK) customer ID error. About language and stuffs. Model ID, etc.
So I tried to RUU with the oldest hTC_Asia_WWE_1.31.707.2 (the oldest that I can find that is an ASIA one.). Then it gave me the error 140 (bootloader error). The readme doesn't have any information on this one, even on the net for HTC Saga.
So I tried to RUU with the "LATEST" hTC_Asia_WWE_1.48.707.1 that I found and everything works well. I really am not quite sure why I was not able to "downgrade", just "upgrade".
AFAIK i just updated my radio to the latest 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M found on the hTC_Asia_WWE_1.48.707.1 when I was S-OFFed. It may have something to do with it.
Just an additional info. I'm now S-ON and on-stock hTC_Asia_WWE_1.48.707.1_20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M

To change it use this procedure
Give some info how did you came to this situation. It is strange to have this version with the old booltoader.
Yes, I want to give you more details but I'm not fluent in english. So I try to tell you better I can.
Phone had Endymion v3.1 rom. I noticed today that I couldn't take pictures. So I try to install another rom. After format all partition (without sdcard) and a full wipe, I flash hboot with original hboot 0.98.002. The phone has rebooted by mistake (poor handling). Unfortunately, phone become S-ON and can't do anything.
I look the procedure but don't understand:

1. I downloaded only zergRush.zip and copy file into zip into c:\downgrade. Is it correct?
2. I can't connect phone in debug mode. How can I do?
Thanks.

1) Try to S-OFF with Revolutionary

You cannot flash hboot with S-ON. DO not try to flash European RUU either. Yours is RUU_Saga_Bouygues_FR_1.31.1020.2_Radio_20.28c.30.0805U_38.03.02.16_M_release_179953_signed.exe
Since you deleted everything and no adb your last resort is a goldcard. Find someone with the same software version as you to give you a cid number. Make a Goldcard put it in your phone, run the RUU on the PC and hope for the best
I can't unlock the bootloader because, I get:

same problem buy a xtc clip
hi fullbert
i had the same problem as you are having now,i also did everything the same way as you did ,i even went to http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=revolutionary but no one even took the time to answer/help me, think there are only bots in there. so the last thing i could do was buy me a xtc clip and i managed to get my phone S-OFF again.
problem with the RUU roms is that you cant install because of the INFOversion-main: 12.10.401.5,it always says main version is older.

(Help!) Attempted wrong firmware upgrade from 2.3.4 HTC Sensation Z710a

ok so i wanted to install the ICS on my android but it needed the 4.03 firmware but the 4.03 firmware needed a firmware from 3.x.x so i when to find one and now my device is bricked i can still flash to ROM but thats about it. i can turn it on and it just sits there with a white screen with a label saying "HTC". i have tried restoring from my ROM back ups since i got clock mod installed in the recovery menu i tried every thing i wiped every thing and when i flash or re flash a rom my HTC goes into a booting cycle. and my CID is supper cid and i remember my HBOOT being 1.18.000 but thats about it. i had stock firmware of 2.3.4
My phone had firmware with vodafone australia.
my SD card is intact but i think internal SD card is corrupted or what ever where ever the firmware gets flashed to.
and i cannot seem to find the original vodafone HTC Sensation 2.3.3 firmware so i could restore it and then update it to 2.3.4.
and i tend to get an error from:
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcbllk1p2
this when i try to do factory reset from clockmod

What md5 checksum do you want to check ?? There are many utilities to check md5 checksum on computer. Run superwipe script , then install Android Revolution HD 6.2.1 , You have the correct firmware for it. I can see.
I have a same problem.
Didn't read the thread very well and I upgraded the wrong firmware.
Now, I just see the ''HTC'' logo and after that it's only rebooting over and over again. I downloaded the firmware I needed, thought I will just replace it with this ''broken'' one, but I'm getting errors all the time. And after that, again rebooting.
HTC Sensation, S-Off, first firmware was 2.3.4.
Error is: ''CID incorrect, update fail'' in HBOOT.
Only way I can stop rebooting after that message is to take out the battery.
Anyone got any other solutions except the first answer?
Thank you in advance, sorry about my bad english.
NOTE: I'm a noob at this, just wanted ICS on my phone. So, please, explain it in ''moron language''

Pull the card out and boot it into hboot mode. Then to recovery. Mount your sd card. Plug it into your computer. Delete the incorrect firmware. Find a superwipe zip. Flash Zip. Then flash correct firmware.

It looks like you have a valid version of the Firmware (HBOOT 1.27.1100). However you need to understand that that version ONLY supports ICS ROMs, so it won't support your old ROM even if you recover it. Also as usual you should SuperWipe when changing things this dramatically.
As you still seem to be able to get into Recovery try the following:
i) Download the Superwipe Script from the ARHD thread, in the Downloads bit in he first post.
ii) Download a full ICS ROM, take your pick (my preference is Virtuous Inquisition 3.5).
iii)Copy the files over to the SD-card from your PC.
iv) Delete the PG59IMG.zip from the SD-card. (ADDED IN EDIT1)
In recovery, run the Superwipe Script. Then Install the ICS ROM. The first re-boot will take a few mins.
To check MD5s just get a free MD5 checker for your PC and also get one for the phone, when it's backup up and running.

You haven't detailed what your HBOOT is at the moment, what does it say if you go into BootLoader ?
As it's mentioning CID, I assume you didn't SuperCID the phone, not an issue just get the right one for you CID from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
After you update the Firmware you'll need to:
i) SuperWipe
ii) Install ICS ROM
iii) Remove the PG58IMG.zip file from the SD-Card.

In this thread ''[Firmware][Feb 22]User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24 & 3.30 Unlocked'' I downloaded ''HTC China & H3G'', version 3.30 by mistake.
HBOOT installed the PG58IMG.zip file and after that he's just rebooting.
I have T-Mobile Europe carrier but my HTC is unlocked.
Now, I don't really know what firmware to download or how to check for the right one. Also, I don't know how to SuperWipe or anything so I need someone just to write all the steps. From Wipe to ROM. I found nothing on this anywhere else and I searched all night. I'm new to Android (Have Sensation for about 2 months) so thank you for your help people! Really appreciate it.

So I'm following the steps from gol_n_dal to see what will happen.

I think I need to setup super CID, but I cant as I cant boot the phone to connect via adb on my windows PC... Is there anything I can do to fix?

Tried that, still stuck in the loop. I think half the firmware update has ran, then it has failed, so i need to roll back...
Download both the 3.30 and 3.12 FW. Open the 3.12 zip on your computer and replace just the Hboot file with the one from the 3.30 zip. Then flash the customized zip so you'll have the 3.30 fw with the 3.12 boatloader (1.23 not 1.27) and then flash a 3.30 Rom.
Some phones arent booting with the 1.27 bootloader that comes with the 3.24 and 3.30 fw.

You can superCID from fastboot. Put it in bootloader, connect USB, bootloader should say fastboot USB.
Follow sticky guide in dev forum.

I had the same problem when I first tried to flash a rom, you just have to find the right firmware for your CID, find yours here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767, and if you don't know your CID just superCID as shown in the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 and skip steps 5,6,7, just manually boot into bootloader.
If you want you can also see what I did on this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516373

Are you s-off ? If you are S-OFF , then you need not have any file.
Just boot into bootloader.
Open a fastboot terminal in pc.
and type
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot getvar cid
After this you will get a reply like this CID : 11111111
If you are not S-OFF, then first install adb and fastboot in your pc from here for windows or from here for linux and follow this guide.
How To get your Hboot Version - 3 methods below
1. Run the revolutionary Utility you just downloaded from http://revolutionary.io/ and if it has found your device it should read
"Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* Applications -> Development)
4. With the phone switched on (not in HBOOT, just the regular home screen), plug in your USB cable and select HTC sync mode.(IGNORE any warning messages on your phone telling you it cannot find HTC Sync )
5. Launch revolutionary.exe. It should detect the phone and ask for your beta key. Type it (BE CAREFUL, as its case sensitive) or copy and paste it in.
If Revolutionary fails to find your phone verify you have all the drivers installed, try disk drive mode or charging mode (Linux users can use disk drive mode. Confirmed to be working by others)
6. Once you have entered your beta key correctly, follow any on screen prompts or actions from revolutionary and wait for it to S-Off,
7. You're done. Your Device will Successfully have S-OFF....if it hangs on method 3 and doesn't S-Off. See post 2 below for solutions.
IF REVOLUTIONARY SAYS FAILED YOUR PHONE IS NOT SUPPORTED. Go back and check hboot using the methods above. some users are told its failed and they still have S off now. If you have S-off your hboot will now be 1.17.1011 and revolutionary will tell you now your device is not supported
8. Revolutionary will now ask you to Install clockwork recovery mod after S OFF. Type N and install it manually below (the recovery provided is v4.0.1.4 doesn't charge when device is switched off, the one below v5.0.0.1 does charge)
9. Your Device now is S-off.

By fastboot terminal I mean :
Open command prompt in windows.
CD to the directory where adb and fastboot installed ( generally platform-tools folder in the sdk).( Boot your phone into bootloader mode. and connect to pc)

Try fastboot flash any recovery image first.
And i think you can use other Ruu.
Btw, you can dump that Saga on me, if you live in KL. I'll help you.

I'm having hard time to setting up adb to start.I've downloaded a recovery image.
There's nothing on top of PVT.
After some reading i worry thaat i'll screw it up if i flash the recovery without S-off and unlock bootloader.
I read somewhere that i could download a file from htcdev kernel section and flash but how to flash?i downloaded it.which program i should use to flash the file?
Get a newer RUU and flash. Check the CID and download the correct RUU for your CID.
And stop worrying so much, otherwise you won't fix anything. Flashing with different radio won't do a thing, as well as flashing a different RUU as long as you have goldcard. But since you don't have, just look for the correct RUU.
It seems like its hboot 98, just do the revolutionary ?
Sent from my HTC Desire S CoolDroid v6.0 via XDA Premium
Also a good solution. Just need to move to FASTBOOT screen.
Bluehawk, just go on with www.revolutionary.io , it will root and s-off the device. No need guide link, just open the web, and it will show you the guide, step by step, newb friendly. But remember to choose the right option, imei and sn.
By then, after complete revolutionary, be happy and fastboot flash any recovery image.
Kinda lucky situation, already hboot 98, easy to handle i think. Unless the device soft/hard bricked already.

Hye guys, first of all im amazed to see so many replies/solutions given by u guys.
Alright,i've do tried to s-off using revo but i couldn't get my device detected by revo, sigh.Tried many times but it still BLINKING ON WAITING FOR DEVICE.Tried on another pc,same result.I've installed all the driver and updated my device in device manager. On my phone,If enter vol-|power on hboot/connect usb/my device manager detects as ANDROID BOOTLOADER INTERFACE and when i entered fastboot it detects as MY HTC.I don't know where i'm doing it wrong.Or its some chip fkd up?
Now,i've installed adb/fastboot on my windows7 and adb seems not working but fastboot going good. Here's some info i've got while typing some commands:
Fastboot device - HTC14ctxxxxxx (simply typed it xx,security purpose?idk lol)
CIDNUM - HTC_621
Emmc should be Sandisk
Version-main 1.31.950.2
If possible i really wanted to S-off it so that i could flash custom recovery etc,not much hassle as official i guess. So yeah, revolutionary not detecting my device.Maybe i guess because the phone had not set to debugging etc or so prior it went dead?
So should i download a RUU and flash?which one should i go for with above cid?can i flash with fastboot command?which command should i use to locate a RUU?
Sorry guys,i'm new with android and htc.hope u guys could pardon my noobies.
Revolutionary might be running in ADB mode by default, and that's the reason it's not detecting your phone - you can't boot to the state when ADB is functional, ADB daemon starts running when the kernel is booted already. Since Revolutionary is an executable, it's not possible to manipulate it into starting directly in fastboot.
In that case, I guess, you're left with flashing the RUU.

did you change to fastboot usb?
here's my step to revo, I pull the batt for 5 sec, put it in, and boot into hboot/bootloader . Top option is fastboot, i selected it and it will change to fastboot usb. then plug in usb . and it detect my HTC DS.
note : HTC Sync installed, and HTC Fastboot driver installed in order to get it work.
EDIT : Jack_R1 is right maybe. For your HTC DS, it's taiwan made, so search for oldest htc asia ruu.

My suggestion.
If you don't want to run into any problem try to make goldcard. It is easy. Use google search, and search for android gooldcard how to.
If you have a laptop, or cardreader it'll be a easy step.
Also before you run the RUU boot the device into fastboot. By volume down +poer button.
Don't worry.
I've messed my phone before and fix it without breaking it!
What you shouldn't do is pull out and rapid back in the battery while the phone stays at the white screen.
You can burn out the emmc chip that way.
[email protected] for the link buddy.I'll try it once i've prepared a goldcard, just incase.
[email protected] the midst of making a goldcard.Since i cant make goldcard on my phone,Tried readcid and goldcardhelper downloaded and plug my sd direct to laptop card reader but non working.I'll find someone who own an android phone and make golcard in their phone.
Appreciate you guys!Simply the best guiding forum!
UPDATE:
Got hold of a Samsung Galaxy SII,insert my 2gb unmount erase and did GoldCard Helper.I've got 2 CID as below:
mmc1:aaaa XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
mmc0:0001 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Which one should i use to create goldcard image?
Finally, the phone is up and running good!
I tried to make goldcard but not sure of the cid i should use to create image.
Went on to flash the RUU as per suggested by anaz and the phone came to life!I really appreciate everyone of you for the guide and advise.Thank you guys!

1) SuperCID My Phone Using This Tutorial

2) Then Proceed With S-OFF using this tutorial

3) Relock Bootloader Using Hasoon2000's All in one toolkit and flash stock recovery (I Need Stock Recovery Image For Htc one s S4 Processor) I Will use this tutorial for steps 3/4
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SZuAjz4PIjU
4) Run The RUU (will I be unbranded if I SuperCID and S OFF my phone so I can run. A unbranded RUU ?)
I Also Need A RUU Which Is On JellyBean Not ICS
5)Unlock Bootloader and Root
Please can ou Anwser These Questions Please <3
ill I be unbranded if I SuperCID and S OFF my phone so I can run. A unbranded RUU ? I am currently branded to three uk
And can someone link me to stock recovery Image for htc one s S4 Processor
Is There Any JellyBean RUU if So Please Link me to them and tell me if I can use them after I have done SuperCID and s off
And let me know if there any problems in my method I am going to use
Thanks One S Community
Do the steps 1 & 2 just as you mentioned.
Then, once you're s-off, you don't need to relock your bootloader. But you need to flash stock recovery before you flash any RUU. You can download it here, and flash it in fastboot mode ('fastboot flash recovery ville_recovery_signed.img').
Being s-off you can easily change to any CID by typing 'fastboot oem writecid xxxxxxxx'. You'll find CIDs in this thread, also keep in mind that using SCID might brick your phone in case of an OTA coming in. But it's easy to change...
Then choose any RUU which is closest to what you need and run it from your desktop/laptop or click me for latest EU RUU.
As you're already rooted, there is no need for step 5. You'll still be s-off and unlocked afterwards.
You should be good to go then.

What should I change my CID to and will I be unbranded ? And can I use the ruu you provided the latest one .and I don't understand what you mean with the OTA Updates. I'm branded to three UK and for 8. Change T-MOB010 to 11111111 and save the file as mmcblk0p4MOD. Would I just find H3G and change it to 11111111
You don't need stock recovery to run an ruu, all you need is a locked bootloader
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Ok then. Just to make shure, you're on an S4 device?
Three UK means you're just around the corner... United Kingdom.
So everything 'EU' will be good for you and you should choose HTC__001 then (HTC Europe). If this works, you'll be unbranded.
If you're s-off you basically can flash any RUU you want, even the most exotic one (if there is any :laugh. And to get the point 'any' means older ones as well, e.g. ICS based ones. Being on HTC__001 or 11111111 with ICS on the other hand means that your device will find an Over The Air update to JB. If you choose to install it, it will install JB without problems on HTC__001 but a possible lot of trouble being on 11111111. As a result you might brick your phone, according to some posts here on XDA. So you should choose HTC__001 (8 digits).
At this point keep in mind, never ever use the latest TMO US JB RUU, as this may install write protection to mmcblk0p4 on one s phones!!! (Maybe not if you're already s-off, idk at this point...)
And yes, you can use the one RUU I linked to in my previous post. It worked here, why should it not work on other phones?

Crap - it's way easier to flash stock recovery than changing cid and unlocking/relocking bootloader. And it works.
I'm going to run the ruu you provided me with will I have any problems with that and what should I change my CID To? Also I'm going to flash stock recovery and lock bootloader so there no probs

Sorry for being a pain it's just I don't want to brick my phone and could you explain this as I don't understand it
view plaincopy to clipboardprint?
adb pull /sdcard/mmcblk0p4
and hit enter.
NOTE THE SIZE OF THE FILE BEFORE THE NEXT STEP!
6. Open the file (mmcblk0p4) with your hex editor.
7. Look for offset 00000210 or 00000214 and you should see "T-MOB010" with your IMEI number after it.
NOTE: "T-MOB010" is the T-Mobile US version, depending on your carrier this will change, but it will still precede your IMEI. See the link at the end of this post for a list of other CID's.
MAKE SURE AT THIS POINT THAT THE FILE IS THE EXACT SIZE IT WAS BEFORE YOU HEX EDITED IT!
9. Now go back to your command prompt and type
view plaincopy to clipboardprint?
adb push mmcblk0p4MOD /sdcard/mmcblk0p4MOD
Shall I note the file size so if it. Example.txt(4642kb). I would note the file size and I would just change my CID to HTC__001 ?
And don't I need to get the fast boot files and softbin3 and stuff but the site doesn't provide me with anything could you link me to them ? I have literally no clue
And in HxD. editor will mine look like this http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...3a77c716b8/51864687/1/0/8/2/7/9/0/hexedit.jpg
Wouldn't I change my CID To H3G__001 but I want to be unbranded

Hi,
In the order listed, these are the following steps you must do: (this guide assumes you have the HTC drivers installed and a working folder with adb and fastboot files. if you need them, ask)
1. SuperCID. (using the previous link you mentioned, or this link)
2. S-OFF (using the previous link you mentioned, or this link)
3. Get a stock recovery. I have provided one from the Jelly Bean RUU, download it here. MD5 Sum: ed56807cb765ada1d49e7e6e246aea63
Place it in your working folder (the place where adb and fastboot etc. files are).
4. Flash the stock recovery using the command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. Change your cid to HTC__001, using the command:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
You have to be in FASTBOOT USB mode in the bootloader for the command to work.
5. Run a Jelly Bean 3.16 RUU from here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/securek...28_10.27.50.08L_release_301814_signed_2_4.exe
6. Done!

Hi,
I forgot to link the instructions for S-OFF, my apologies. I have corrected that now.
You should not be in fastboot mode when doing supercid, I didn't realize this. You should be booted into Android. I understand the catch-22 you are having here, so you may want to flash a custom ROM like CM10 for the time being, and then do SuperCID with USB Debugging enabled in Settings.
The md5 file is used to check for corrupt downloads, you download the file and use a tool to check the file's MD5 sum on the PC. Then you match it to the one I gave you and see if it matches. The purpose of this is so that you don't accidentally flash a corrupt file.
Also, the CID you need to find is not T-MOB010, but H3G__001 (two underscores there, to make it 8 digits). Change that to 11111111 (8 digits, again)

Alright so
1) Do SuperCID : 11111111
2) S - OFF
3 Do ' fastboot oem writecid HTC__001 '
4) Flash Stock Recovery
5) Run RUU
looks like I'm sorted
But can I ask what shall If my device doesn't match this PJ4010000.zip ?
You can forget step 4. It's not needed with S-off.

Can anyone tell me if this is a lost cause? Thanks.
This is the RUU I used -
OTA_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.8_1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_301852xf01hejl416oev96.zip.
Does anyone know if this is definitely the wrong one?
To all: Guys, no need to use S-Off for RUU. I DON'T KNOW WHO THE F*** CREATED THE PROCESS OF S-OFFING FOR RUUs AS WHEN I RESTORE STOCK LAST YEAR, IT WAS A SIMPLE BOOTLOADER RELOCK, AND RUU WE GO. IF WE S-OFFED, WE S-ON USING ONE-TOUCH STUFF.
To folaxstar: Well, you got as far as him. However, you got the COMPLETELY WRONG RUU. Technically, IT'S NOT AN RUU AT ALL. It is a Android 4.1 Sense 4.5/+ update for European unlocked HTC One S.
Do a "fastboot getvar cid" without the quotes (of course). You should get a CID that looks like the following: T-MOB010(T-Mobile US, as an example, it might not match what you got). Someone could determine the correct RUU.
