One of the biggest problems of Galaxy R, is that apps for counting data traffic (like Watchdog 3G and netcounter) do not work.
For any of us who is on a dataplan, this is a serious problem.
So, any workaround, any idea?
The telephone operator, yoigo, in spain give us in his web page the data trafic use.
Using an app, called my androigo, we can see easily the yoigo info about our data consumption.
Maybe you would have some similar in Greece with your operator.
yes,we Chinese guys have the same problem

My operator can inform me about remaining data through SMS but it isn't as convenient as in-phone counters.
Our data plans are very expensive (100MB/5 euro for 1 month) and after that, 1 euro per megabyte, so things can get ugly really fast, especially on today's fast networks...

Yes, it's a good app!!!
It is a good app but it should specify each app's traffic usage.

Hi guys,
does anyone know if there're any mobile operators with decently-priced prepaid data plans in Belgium? I'll need to travel to there (to Brusselles) this May and I prefer purchasing local, prepaid cards for Internet access instead of paing a fortunae for data roaming.

Hi there
I'm from Belgium
We have 3 big operators.
The biggest with the best support, but the most expensive one is Proximus
The second best is Mobistar
And the third one, is Base.
For mobile internet, I think Proximus or Mobistar are the best choices, but not sure it's possible to get Prepaid mobile internet.
You should check their sites
http://www.proximus.be
http://www.mobistar.be
http://www.base.be
I will be visiting China in the near future. I will use Skype or Gizmo5 while in the hotel from my PC to callback to the U.S.
But I am taking my HTC Dash (GPRS, EDGE, no 3G) with me and still wanted to be able to receive Outlook email while out and about, browse Internet using mini-Opera, maybe use Gmaps a little bit. I went to T-Mobile's website to see how much data usage was when roaming in China. It's $15 per MB which seems really steep. (Also, 1MB??? How much can you really do with only 1MB?)
So instead I'm looking to purchase a prepaid SIM. I will be visiting Beijing, Changsha, Guangzhou, and spend 1 night in Hong Kong. If anyone has any experience on what would be the best plan to get, please let me know.
Also, about how many MB's do you think I'd need for a 2 week stay? Like I said, I'll be checking my email, using mini-opera to browse for news & such, some gmaps usage. I'll use WIFI whenever there's something open I can connect to. (Is it quite easy finding open WIFI spots in those three cities or do you think they'll be scarce?)
Also, if I use the java version of Gmail to check my mail, instead of downloading it to Outlook, is that a better way to conserve on data? Will it make much of a difference?
Thank you,
Tim
Hi, I am going to study to Ireland for one year, so I will need to get Irish phone number and I want to get some suggestions by users, not only by provider's website.
Most important for me is to have fast mobile internet connection, so I don't want anything without 3G network. For example here in Czech Republic, I am used to 3G network, which is now almost in every bigger city, for 150 CZK/month (~ 6 €) and FUP 150 MB/month (this is what they say, but some time ago they did not checked it and maybe they still don't, so it's like unlimited , but I think, that for using in mobile phone (rarely tethering) it is enough).
Of course I'm also interested in prices of call and sms, but it is not primary objective
so i got a pre-paid sim in brasil with CLARO, signed up for their "unlimited web" option, which is actually limited to 300MB over 30 days, and soon enough I could use the android web browser freely. Strangely enough android market, gmaps, gmail, etc wouldn't recieve any data. The E icon for edge only lit the up arrow, the down arrow never would light unless i was using the android web browser...
I cannot understand how my nexus s can freely brows the web, but no other app can get data. I took my sim and put it in another phone, a nokia, and it worked fine with its map application, and facebook... I took the sim from that nokia phone, and i had the same data issues.
mind you, the phone worked fine on Tmobile USA , and works fine here on WiFi...
I talked to Claro, but they were as surprised and clueless as I was. They suggested a few things including creating a new google account here in brasil, it didn't help.
I got sick of trying to figure it out and just bought a pre-paid sim/plan from another provider (TIM) and it worked like a charm... everything worked.
But does anyone understand this situation?
I'm aware my nexus S doesn't have the 3g bands for claro, but it was on Edge, and regardless of bands, the web browser had a good data connection.
most probably , your network had some ports( being used by google apps) blocked. and the one for the browser ( a different one -8080 i suppose) was still opened.
but the same sim on another phone, everything worked. and Claro sells galaxy s phones, and other android devices... I didn't test it with them, but they would have seen this issue before if the ports were blocked, right?
I have a Nexus One and my wife has the Nexus S. We also use Tim prepaid but don't have any data plan. The cell service is so bad in Rio I am not sure if we would be throwing money away with a data plan. How has it been for you? Wifi is available in the malls and a lot of restaurants as well as all along Copacabana Beach. So far we're making due.
probably the default APN for that provider needs a proxy server and provides no direct internet connection. In android only the browser uses the proxy address that you set up in the settings, for everything else it must be direct connection.
Nokia phones usually use the configured proxy for everything, so it works. That, or it was using another APN. In spain, for example, orange and most providers have 2 apns for internet, one gives you a public IP and full internet connection, the other needs a proxy, you get a private IP address and nothing works. Both are usually included in the same data plans, so you have to use the right one with Android.
by the way, an "APN" is the what the phone "dials" to get an internet connection, more or less. So depending on the APN you can get different kinds of service.
Good to know cus Im thinking in changing my operator to Claro. Now Im on Tim with no data plan...
As soon you solve this , or not, tell us please!!
e se quiserem trocar figurinhas sobre o Nexus S, vamos trocar emails!!!
Claro MG
Hi Folks,
I have a Nexus S and also a Data Plan from Claro.
Since I live in Minas Gerais ( Claro 3G here is 2100MHz ) it´s working fine.
Yesterday I went to São Paulo on a Business Trip and ( Claro 3G in SP is 850MHz ) my EDGE connection just worked fine.
I could send e-mails and even navigate a bit with Google Navigator.
It might help you an app called APN Brasil found on market. All my apn settings are based from this app.
So far so good.

I've had good experience with TIM in south zone, I get 3G just about anywhere outside of a building. It's not fast by USA standards, but its decent.. definately worth R$0.50 per day.
Hello Guys & Gals..
I have not been around the threads very much because I've been 100% satisfied running Stock-Rooted.. I have my theme, battery is incredible for my usage model and everything overall is just running fantastic..
But,
I wanted to ask those of you basically in the North American / South American Hemisphere ( but anyone feel free to chime in )
what Mobile Carrier are you using for your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / Pro..
Are you getting 4G LTE ? if so, have you checked what band your Note 5 is linking to ?
How much are you paying ?
This Mint Mobile Service seems VERY Polarizing with consumers.
Their prices are almost unbelievable.. ( at least here in the U.S. of A. ) but, again.. you hear good and bad about them.
What Say You?
What Carrier works for you.. and if you don't mind sharing, what are you paying for the amount of Data you recieve ?
Thank You All !

Isn't 40$ per month is a huge amount ???
@SunilSuni
It's quite a lot. But in USA where service providers have very, very high prices for everything (and many hidden suprises like data throttling when downloading big files, forcing You to pay extra for using mobile hotspot ...) it may be a good deal

Right now in India all network operators provides same offers
For 399 indian rupees we will get unlimited local STD and roaming calls (non commercial purpose)
And daily 1.4GB 4G data with 84days validity
Previously we used to pay 250INR for 1GB 4G data with 30days validity but things have been changed after Jio (the great Mukesh Ambani is the chairman) enters Indian market.
Airtel is best in terms of 4G speed
Here, in Romania, I have:
5Euros unlimited 4G + other things (but meh reception) (Telekom)
and
7Euros 30GB 4G+ internet +unlimited voice/sms (4G everywhere, 4G+ in big cities) (Orange)
But you can get prepaid and have 50GB of internet for 5euros
At home (for 7euros) i have 1gbps internet
No Way...

Guys..
If I'm Converting Correctly... That's Like $5.00 - $6.00 U.S. Dollars
If So, YES!.. We Are Being Ripped Off Here In The U.S. of A..
My service provider name is Play. Im a part of something called "family plan" (3 people). It goes like that
We (every person) can pay either 40zł (10,81$) per month or one of them can pay 120zł per month . What do we get :
Unlimited calls
Unlimited SMS
30GB of data (for all of us to share). When we download more than that internet speed will slow down to 1mb /second
HBO GO 2 years for free , Tidal (music) for 6 months free and Showmax for 6 months free as well
And Play has a 4-provides power, so we have access (via national roaming) to all other provides (T-Mobile, Orange, Plus) signal (unfortunetly data speed will drop to 1mb/second again)
But if you choose prepaid especally in some virtual network provides you can get a even better deal
Sent from my whyred using XDA Labs
And we also (here in europe) get way better speeds than what you guys get in US.
At home i get 980mbps download, 499mbps upload.
on 4G+ (not using RN5pro) I can get 350mbps download, 200mbps upload. (you can probably get even better speeds with better phones)
Then It's A Crime In Progress..

The One Thing I Can Say Is,
Once You're In A Plan It's Yours For As Long As You Want It.. Even If It's Been Discontinued.
Hey I have MintMobile and xiaomi mi max2 since a year. No problems no issues, 4G works great
