How do I connect to an ad hoc network using Nexus S - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well as the title says, is it possible to connect the nexus to an ad hoc connection if yes, how?
I create one on my laptop (router not working, using broadband meanwhile), network it's working because my iPod is able to see the network and to connect but I,m not able to see the network on the Nexus S.
Is it possible to connect to an ad hoc connection on android? Am I missing something to be able to connect to this network?

Android doesn't support this yet. Get wifi analyzer and check it out. It can see the network, but it can't connect.

Try changing your ad hoc wireless encryption to WEP.

As in like AD-HOC (I think that's it) Gaming so it's just a device to connect devices, Nice idea, Interesting although I don't know... You could Always try wifi tether with mobile data disabled

Tethering wifi from a wifi hotspot?

I didn't see this in the forums before but I was wondering if it is possible to tether a wifi hotspot on the nexus through it's wifi. I ask this because I travel 3 weeks at a time with my company and can't use Netflix, live, etc on my xbox. They have wifi and ethernet there but both have the stupid welcome page and you have to agree to terms to use the internet.the xbox doesn't have a browser that allows me to accept the webpage and I'm in North Dakota with work and I'm in constant roaming the entire time so no 3g natively of my phone to tether. So that brings me back to my question is there anyway to use the wifi they have open a browser window on my phone accept the welcome and then tether to my console?
I wonder if you can accept the TOS, jot down the IP address then quickly disconnect and force your Xbox to the same IP address given in advanced networking? Also you can tether with a laptop for sure, not sure with the phone.

Guarantee you could use your phones browser connected to the wifi to accept the terms of service. I've done it several times with things like that.

You can't use Wi-Fi and tether at same time, the chip can't do both at same time

If your wifi is connected you can tether it to a computer through usb tether. I know that for sure cause I do it all the time.

Active wifi teather

Is there a app that will let me share my droids WIFI connection with my pc with windows 7. I ask this because my friend has my pc wifi chip and out of town, so no Internet on pc and I don't have a modem with ethernet and I accidentally flashed a new radio to my DROID so no data for me.... Anyways help

FoxFi can be used for Bluetooth and Wireless sharing of internet.
PDA Net allows for a tethered connection, but an application must be installed on the connected computer for it to work.

Tethering to a PSP?

Hello,
I have a rooted Thunderbolt (stock rom), and I use the 4G on it to tether to both my Windows 7 PC and also my Roku player. I use the app "Android Tether" on my TB. I'd now like to use my PSP's WiFi capabilities to connect the two as well.
But I'm having some trouble. When I go into "Network Settings" on the PSP, I scan for access points. It DOES find the Android Tether network, but it's grayed out, and under the "Security" column is says "not supported." I have tried switching to both ad hoc mode AND infrastructure mode, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there any way around this?
You may have to do it without the security settings in place on the tether side.

The PSP doesn't support a certain type of WPA encryption. WEP should work fine. The PSP just didn't have the hardware for newer WPA connections.

That's what I was thinking and that's why I suggested disabling it just to see if it works.

It does, it's just kinda touch-and-go. I think WPA-TKIP connections works, but not WPA-AES or something like that. WEP is much simpler. I finally just gave up on tethering to it at all.

If your actually looking for help you can start by giving some info for your phone. More than " its a motorola". List phone model, what software, if its rooted or not, are you running a custom rom, if your are what rom. These details are very important without them you will never get an answer.

my phone can make a ad hoc network just fine it only has problems making a wifi hotspot. it does not matter what teathing program you use. what does it matter what phone it is? but its a motorola electrify(rooted but it did the same thing stock). my firend has the same phone it does the same thing it makes a hotspot you connect it works for a few min then disconnects the phone says no 3g then after a few sec it reconnects. if you teather using ad hoc it works fine. i have connected the phone to a nook, ipad, ipod toch, and other android tablets always the same thing the only thing that works is ad hoc. so if i can not make the note connect to an ad hoc network i can not teather
