hei,i mean connecting only through wifi...without using network provider.....
As in like AD-HOC (I think that's it) Gaming so it's just a device to connect devices, Nice idea, Interesting although I don't know... You could Always try wifi tether with mobile data disabled

You could just download wireless tether from the market. Works just as well.
I'd upload it for you but I'm not at home. If its not done by the time I get home, I will.

Wifi Tether is adhoc whereas the wireless tethering app acts like a real wifi hotspot connection.

May I ask what's the difference?
And will verizon be able to tell the difference (or whether I am tethering)? I'll mostly using for light surfing (web browsing, emails). Not interesting in watching TV over 4G.
Good question, I love the tether feature and only use it once in a while but when I need it I need it

Ad-hoc is computer to computer where as the wifi hotspot app handles connections like a real router. I believe this to be the case anyway. So, for example, when I was in Las Vegas I tried to set my laptop to stream videos to my xbox through Windows Media Center. I fired up my trusty droid thinking WiFi tether would help me out. But, it set-up an ad-hoc network and WMC will not stream to extenders over ad-hoc. I was kinda bummed.

The experimental ones in the website for it are infrastructure I think. The ones in market didn't work for me

Well as the title says, is it possible to connect the nexus to an ad hoc connection if yes, how?
I create one on my laptop (router not working, using broadband meanwhile), network it's working because my iPod is able to see the network and to connect but I,m not able to see the network on the Nexus S.
Is it possible to connect to an ad hoc connection on android? Am I missing something to be able to connect to this network?

Android doesn't support this yet. Get wifi analyzer and check it out. It can see the network, but it can't connect.

didn't know that .. Guess I'm without a fast connection until new year

Try changing your ad hoc wireless encryption to WEP.
Hi all,
I have been trying for a while now to get the wifi tethering app and the native hotspot app to work in ICS on my NS4g (i have flashed all the ICS roms and even back tracked to older 2.3 roms) but nothing seems to work. The other devices can see the network and connect, but there is never any type of data exchanged. (the wifi icons never show an active online connection) I can use my GF's Evo with the unlocked Sprint hotspot to connect every device I own (tablets, laptops, etc...) but my Nexus will not work at all. I can get the ad hoc tethering to work with the old wireless tether apk, but only my laptop recognizes the connection.
Is there any rom, app, or fix to get my Nexus S 4g to tether in infrastructure mode? I love this phone, and the lack of tethering is persuading me to jump back on board with my OG Evo.
Any help, insight, or recommendation would be appreciated. I've been searching online for weeks looking for a solution and have come up empty.
Thanks
Jason
Have you tried open garden ? On the market

Yes I have tried it. That app only supports ad hoc connections
Wow I do not have this issue
Try the one in the phones settings with a simple name ssid like "cranberry" and have it be open.
That's what I do. Also wifi has to be off.

I do that and it connects, but I get no internet. The bars never change colors showing there is an active internet connection...

Use native ics tethering and do not encript with a password(leave wifi open).

I didn't see this in the forums before but I was wondering if it is possible to tether a wifi hotspot on the nexus through it's wifi. I ask this because I travel 3 weeks at a time with my company and can't use Netflix, live, etc on my xbox. They have wifi and ethernet there but both have the stupid welcome page and you have to agree to terms to use the internet.the xbox doesn't have a browser that allows me to accept the webpage and I'm in North Dakota with work and I'm in constant roaming the entire time so no 3g natively of my phone to tether. So that brings me back to my question is there anyway to use the wifi they have open a browser window on my phone accept the welcome and then tether to my console?
I wonder if you can accept the TOS, jot down the IP address then quickly disconnect and force your Xbox to the same IP address given in advanced networking? Also you can tether with a laptop for sure, not sure with the phone.

Guarantee you could use your phones browser connected to the wifi to accept the terms of service. I've done it several times with things like that.

You can't use Wi-Fi and tether at same time, the chip can't do both at same time

If your wifi is connected you can tether it to a computer through usb tether. I know that for sure cause I do it all the time.

Is there a app that will let me share my droids WIFI connection with my pc with windows 7. I ask this because my friend has my pc wifi chip and out of town, so no Internet on pc and I don't have a modem with ethernet and I accidentally flashed a new radio to my DROID so no data for me.... Anyways help

FoxFi can be used for Bluetooth and Wireless sharing of internet.
PDA Net allows for a tethered connection, but an application must be installed on the connected computer for it to work.
