If your actually looking for help you can start by giving some info for your phone. More than " its a motorola". List phone model, what software, if its rooted or not, are you running a custom rom, if your are what rom. These details are very important without them you will never get an answer.

my phone can make a ad hoc network just fine it only has problems making a wifi hotspot. it does not matter what teathing program you use. what does it matter what phone it is? but its a motorola electrify(rooted but it did the same thing stock). my firend has the same phone it does the same thing it makes a hotspot you connect it works for a few min then disconnects the phone says no 3g then after a few sec it reconnects. if you teather using ad hoc it works fine. i have connected the phone to a nook, ipad, ipod toch, and other android tablets always the same thing the only thing that works is ad hoc. so if i can not make the note connect to an ad hoc network i can not teather

[Q] ASUS Eee Pad and ad-hoc wifi

I know that generally Android does not like connect to ad-hoc wifi but was hoping against hope that someone with an Eee Pad can check if that is still the case?
I'm definitely getting one once i can get my molesty hands on some stock somewhere, but when out and about, my trusty Treo Pro only creates an ad-hoc wifi network via wmwifirouter (works excellent with other portable wifi devices i have).
well, I'm using Barnacle with a rooted Atrix 4G and the transformer can't connect to the ad hoc network.
I can't connect my Transformer to my HTC Hero running an ad-hoc WiFi hotspot. However, it works fine over bluetooth....

Ah ha, at least bluetooth tethering works. At least that's an option i have. Thanks for checking guys.
Argh! Does this mean I can't use the 'Wifi Hotspot' app built into my phone (DHD) to share its 3G connection with my Transformer whilst I'm out and about?
Because I was kind of relying on that.
I may have to cancel my pre-order :-(

It's an Android issue in general, nothing specific to the Transformer specifically. The latest wifi tether for root users i think now does Infrastructure mode and also bluetooth tethers as well.

You can tether it through Bluetooth, which is better IMO. Every time I use Wifi Hotspot on my N1, I start having crashes and memory issues. I had rather use BT for this.

I don't know about that particular phone, but if the hotspot is infrastructure mode (like what is built into Froyo), the TF will be able to connect to it and use it. If it is Ad Hoc, then there will be trouble, Android in general does not support connecting to Ad Hoc (could have changed in Honeycomb now, I but I don't think so). I've used my TF with the Infrastructure hotspot on my Optimus phone, for example, it works fine. Figure out what kind of hotspot your phone does.

On Windows Mobile, use wmwifirouter and choose the bluetooth tethering option. See if that works.
Someone a few posts up mentioned that he's tethering his TF via bluetooth to his Android phone.
It definetely depends on the phone. wireless tether to my buddy's HTC Evo worked yet didnt with my HTC Hero. Luckily, the bluetooth does work exceptionally well so theres no worries!

I installed the trial of Wmwifirouter, but the bluetooth tether option is grayed out. Maybe a limitation of the trial?
I just can't believe that there isn't a better solution for this. Surely there is a utility or a workaround for those of us in tethering hell!!! GahhhH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would this be feasible on a honeycomb device?

has anyone tried to tether with the EVO?
I saw a patch for another tablet somewhere to enable ad-hoc wifi. it was a zip for cwm, but most definitely it was built for earlier android version. i'll look for it nonetheless and report back.

Any way to tether with 4G?

Just got my Nexus S 4G, running it 100% stock and not sure if I will ever root/ROM it yet. I can tether fine using built-in Wifi hotspot. As we know, the tether kills 4G and forces 3G when active.
I only actually have 3G at my house, so I can't test any other methods, but I am wondering if any other tethering tools will allow 4G tether? For example, Barnacle wifi or PDAnet USB... tools I've used in the past on rooted phones. And if either of these methods does work for 4G tethering... is root required? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has 4G available nearby and has tested these methods on rooted/unrooted phones.
Thanks!

You can root and leave everything else stock. Rooting on this phone is trivial.
Non-root tether apps like Pdanet and EasyTether all run as regular apps on the phone. If running a normal app like Pandora preserves 4g status, then the 4g status should remain with those as well.
As for speed, you can look at a comparison that someone ran a few days ago across the popular USB tether apps:

using the same wireless tether app, but don't worry i figured out the answer. Most androids tether thru adhoc but for some reason the evo is different and uses infrastructure mode, thats why my xoom can't pick up the nexus s signal but it can from the evo.

That's not entirely correct. Most newer phones have the capability to create an infrastructure network. It was more hit or miss on older phones.
The built in hotspot app does create an infrastructure network on the Nexus S. The 3rd party wifi tethering app creates an ad-hoc network though on the Nexus S for some reason. Unfortunately the built in tethering doesn't utilize the wimax radio currently.
The hardware on the nexus s does support creating an infrastructure network though, so I don't know why the wifi tethering app is creating an ad-hoc network if it has the capability to do infrastructure.

Maybe shoot the dev an email. The hardware supports infrastructure and the AP can clearly do it. It may be a simple error in logic preventing the Nexus s from being detected as a device capable of infrastructure.

[Q] Wifi Tethering? ~SGH T989~

Hey all!
I rooted my rooted Samsung Galaxy SII T989 for T-Mobile yesterday, and went to install wifi tethering with barnacle today. I was about to install when I saw the button "Wifi Hotspot" in the notifications bar. I clicked it, and used my wifi tethering. So my question is, what is the point in using barnacle? I can apparently now use T-Mobile's hotspot service for free, so it seems pointless to use a third party application. So my question would be: what is the point in freezing the wifi tethering process, or installing a new one when you can just use the normal tethering app?
Additional note: I'm using the Darkside Evolution Rom
It's all the same, same with HTC portable hotspot it does the same as WiFi tether or barnacle from the market

Wireless Tether for Root Users

I have this on my Photon Q, and for some reason, some days it works fine, and stays connected, and other days my computer will connect to the wifi tethering of my phone, then after about 1 min it will disconnect. Its not my computer, it is the phone, the phone stops broadcasting with the tethering app.
Does anyonw know a fix for this? Yesterday i stayed connected without issue, but the day before, I fought with it all day long trying to keep it connected. I either have to restart wifi tether, or sometimes I actually have to restart the phone.
I know this i an issue with the phone, but I wonder if some setting in my computer is making the phone disconnect?
Also, if anyone has any better tethering apps, please let me know.
Have you tried an app like "KeepConnOn"?
No I will check into that thank you
I use trev e mod. So far works flawless.

I did not come up with mod. So I'm not taking credit for it. All I know is that it's somewhere on xda. A buddy of mine sent me the apks. Sprint has blocked almost all the tethering apps from market.

ah yeah, i've seen treve around before. he created some apps to identify and disable logging added in by the carriers, etc. thanks for the tip, PdaNet works well for usb tethering, but it's nice to have a wifi option too.
Here is the link to the trev mod in xda--http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
Only thing though this is the same as wifi tether for root users and i downloaded mine from the play store. The one above i believe you have to install busybox and the one from the market you don't.

Please help

Not sure what to call this in the subject line but there are certain site this happens to, not going to name them for privacy issues but let's just say there not illegal or perverted sites by any means. Anywho I go to these sites and no matter what the browser or what the user agent after time the device blocks them from me gaining access. The only fix I've found is a complete wipe and factory reset. I've tried just about everything else I can think of... Wiped cache, dalvik, tried different browsers... I'm running stock 4.1.2 rooted. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sorry,I didn't notice.that your GN10 is a wifi version.
I tell you this method because I used to have similar problem but my GN10 is 3G+wifi version.
And I use my GN10 as a Hotspot.
After flashing ARHD 5.1 and up version the wifi tethering messed up.
I can connect to the GN10 wifi tethering but it wouldn't allow me to connect to most website...except google sites (google,youtube,etc..)
The method I told you fix the problem.
So, may be you can try installing foxfi on the phone that you use as a hotspot.
