Firmware update for brand new G7P - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hi all. I received mine in the mail today. Lots I like such as size weight build and speaker quality. Camera pretty decent too.
As I was setting up I noticed there was a flash of upgrade available but when I went to settings nothing happened on update. I swear I remember seeing to do the update there was a thread on how to do it but could not find it. Anyone remember?
Also I tried to side load the hbogo.apk from my atrix phone. Installs fine but then comes up with not compatible with this device. Am I missing something here as well. I'll keep reading.
I'm coming from the Asus TF.

Download and install Samsung Kies onto you pc and then connect your GT7+ to the pc with kies running. It will detect the GT7+ and tell you if you need to update the firmware and give you teh option to update it. Easiest way I know how to do it as I don't think updating is supported over wifi or 3g.
As for your app it sounds like it does not support Honeycomb and that is why it won't run. Your other devices are more than likely either running Gingerbread or Froyo.

sdelliott31 after you manage to upgrade your software on 7+ would you please come back to us with some information about the new firmware.
apparently it should be a 147MB file size bringing version EKL1 Android 3.2 Honeycomb and its for Wi-Fi US model.
can you confirm this? or anyone else?

I can't confirm the size but mine updated to the EKL1 update. I also had a pop up saying there was an update available the first time I turned on the device (a new one as I returned my original for SOD).

No gps fix?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Mention of GPS strangely absent.
been running JH7 since it came out with SRE.
WTF is this? JH7 doesn't fix GPS nor does it come close!
(battery life is AMAZING THOUGH!)
Well, since GPS is not mentioned, I doubt this is meant as the fix for GPS issues...
But it IS a good sign that AT&T is actually working on our device, since they are releasing this FW to the public.
Very odd. They guaranteed a GPS fix by end of Sept. We already have used JH7 and it doesn't fix our GPS. I can't imagine them putting out another update before the end of September...
Is it possible that the update from AT&T will somehow include more file update or be different from the JH7 version that we have? Beyond that, I can't understand how they are finally releasing an update but NOT fixing the biggest issue. Especially since they apparently fixed it on the Vibrant and know how to fix it.
Looks like I got it. I definately have to test Exchange now. Maybe it'll work properly.

Check the GPS....
actually, before I get too crazy, let me verify something:
I had JF6, I made a backup image using ROM Manager/Clockwork Mod. I then applied the JH7 found here, had problems (no sideloading), and restored the image. I am ASSUMING that put me back on Baseband JF6, but I don't remember checking afterwards.
Is it possible that the JH7 I have is left over from my manual update? I don't wanna lie to everything thinking I got the official push and really didn't.

You can flash back to JF6...
I will do it if need be but it will have to wait until tonight.
My GPS works fine and I have none of the other issues that this is supposed to fix, so I couldn't tell you whether the update will fix those or not.

Did you have to look for updates on your phone or was it sent auto? Were you running stock when you got it?

They are pushing it, but you should be able to get it if you search for updates and your phone meets the criteria...
I'm running a backup now. I'm need to test a few things. I just happened across this thread and had a quick look at my basband number and it shows JH7. I *should* be stock. But that assumes that when I restored back to my original image, it also restored JF6
I'll get back with you. I don't feel like I'd be one of the lucky ones to get the update first (unless it goes by purchase date, I did get mine early).
LOL...fail. I went to check for update, said no update and that I can not check for another 24 hours. WTF? why cant I check for updates when I want.
Noob question: Is it necessary to un-root and un-lagfix before attempting to download or install this update?

Me too, lol, I'm already running JH7 that was leaked. According to the AT&T site they are looking at your firmware version and that's how they determine who's getting it.
Hmmm, debating if this update is even worth it. Doesn't fix GPS, and it's not Froyo
OTA update process usually takes days or weeks. It pushes in batches so that only limited number of phones will download the update so that the update server don't get overloaded. No, maunally check for update does not speed the process up at all or change your position in the queue. Basically, you have to wait for your turn.
Sooner or later someone will figure out the URL to download the update directly. Only when that happens, you can go and download the update and manually put that file to internal SD card, boot the phone into recovery mode and apply the update.
If that's too much work for you, wait for your turn.

same question here. Anyone know if I'll lose root/non-market apps if I apply this update?
One thing I did notice about the leaked version was the new YouTube app styling. I kinda liked it. Came in handy at the gas pump.

Root for Samsung Replenish with Gingerbread?

So, sprint just released an OTA update to 2.3.6 for the Samsung Replenish (SPH-M580). Thing is, for me (and others, I'm sure) the update somehow both automatically applied an obnoxious Sprint ID skin as well as crippled the Sprint ID service. This leaves users with an ungodly 2.2/2.3 hybrid which manages to look even worse than Froyo, and no Sprint-sanctioned method of fixing it.
So, rather than sit idly by and wait for Sprint to slowly/never patch this (neither Sprint nor Samsung had anyone who could help me), I've decided to root the device.
A few questions:
1. Here, someone achieved root back in mid-2011. Would that method be viable after the update to 2.3?
2. Would other exploits (i.e. gingerbreak via SuperOneClick) be viable with 2.3.6?
3. Is CWM or Cyanogen compatible with this handset? The whole reason I was looking forward to the update was certain UI features that I noticed on newer gingerbread devices like the SGS2 (power options on notification screen, paged applications drawer, zoom-out on home screen), and none of those are available thanks to Sprint.
Hopefully this gets more than 2 replies; sometimes it seems like nobody owns this phone on here.

Wow, just found another UI goof - in some apps (XDA included) the loading icon is a rotating circle, but it's in a non-square space, so it ends up looking like a goofy wobbling ellipse. Urgh.

Agh, can't anybody help with this?
I guess nobody anywhere ever had this device.
Can someone direct me to a forum where I might find help? :c

Im on the same boat as you, but my phone is on Boost. I've been looking for hours and can't find anything. I'll let you know if I find any leads.
Are you on Froyo? If so, I think someone posted a batch file a few months ago that would work.

Has anyone figured this out yet? Is there a comparable root for another Samsung device that would work with the replenish? Seems like someone should have figured it out by now...
I have a rooted Replenish on 2.3
I have a rooted replenish on Phoenix 0.2 the Download and instructions are on android central just search replenish
forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-replenish/148702-acs-rom-phoenix-rom-0-2-a.html
It wont let me post the link because im new here
Odin may be only option right now
I have a coworker with a Replenish. Rooted it with KMS originally (was a PITA, but if you timed it right, it worked), since he updated it to gingerbread I have not found a working solution.
I downloaded the Phoenix 0.2 rom from above and will test it out when I see the phone again. I'm guessing from what I read in the comments relating to that ROM that it will work fine.
Note about flashing using ODIN: From what I know, ODIN is the tool samsung uses to push firmware to their phones. This will overwrite the boot loader and if something goes wrong during flashing you can brick your phone. Make sure you are using a good powered USB port on your computer with a good working USB cable for the phone (preferably the one that came with it that has the samsung sticker on it). I've bricked a phone before using a crappy USB port on my computer, so be careful :-/
your savior!!!!!!!!! lol XD

Need rooting for dummies
I need help. I have read, re-read and read again every and any instructions I have located for rooting a Boost Samsung Replenish and am still completely confused. I need step-by-step instructions from A to Z which most do not have and to complicate things more, instead of using Odin I am using Heimdall since Odin can not run on Mac. I have been unable to find any instructions on using Heimdall to root my phone. Please help. Phone information below
Boost Samsung Replenish
Model SPH-M580BST
Android Version 2.3.6
Band Version S:M580.06 x FB03
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7
Build Number GINGERBREAD.FB03
Hardware Version M580.06

Isn't ICS availble for the US wifi only?

So I'm reading this everywhere and it says I have to use kies to upgrade the software. After reinstalling kies and formatting the tablet, kies is telline me that my device cannot receive software updates via kies. What gives?
How do I do this, this is very frustrating. Why can't Samsung just update their crap over the air like everyone else. Do I need to manually download the firmware from here and install it via the sd card?
Thanks.
tab plus wifi only US live oTA but!!!
its available. mine just came OTA when i turned it on this morning 6210 tab plus wifi only. but when i tried to install it it didn't work. its up on the sammobile site too as least but i don't have a pc (have a mac) to run that ridiculous kies app. go to galaxy tab plus general here on xda and there is a thread running about the new ics out (unrooted)
Same here. I've had a couple of firmware updates in the last week or so but I'm still at 3.2. Either its prepping my tablet for ICS or they were true 3.2 updates.
I chatted with a Samsung tech rep and she said that they were upgrading customers in batches and not everyone at once. Never heard that one before. I suppose if you wanted to keep the load on your servers happy, batching would make sense...
Anybody else hear about this?

[Q] Should I let OTA updates install?

Hi there, I just got this tablet with its awesome screen a couple of days ago and as the title says I'm not sure if I should let the OTA run.
I already have a GS2 so I was aware of the eMMC bug and I also have an overly cautious nature so I said no to the updates and turned the auto check for updates feature off.
I got the P6810 version.
Currently it is on a ROM the firmware websites don't recognise:
2.6.36-P6810DTKL4-CL602212
I have no idea what version it will update to as if I ask it to check and agree to the disclaimers the download size is listed as less than a megabyte.
I have read quite a few of the threads here but none of them made things completely clear as to what to do in this situation. One of the posts said not to do a wipe with a Honeycomb based ROM which is what this is.
By the sounds of it we should get Jelly Bean in a month or so, well it is rumored and that would be great. I'm not sure I really need a rooted custom ROM but I definitely need to be off Honeycomb!
Thanks for your time.
I was having problems with my wi-fi connection and had to set it manually, I thought that perhaps the update might address that so I let it update.
It was 0.07Mb and has taken it to:
2.6.36-P6810DTKL5-CL604290
Now it says no updates available but the firmware sites say there are a few newer versions including an ICS based one. I guess I need to do that manually or via Kies, which I don't really trust.
I'll wait for advice from more knowledgeable people.
I would and have trusted Samsung Kies before for updates... not on this device, but on my Notes... and it did just fine...
good luck

Thanks for the reply Jimmbomb, I had a bit of a think about it and figured if it died I'd just be without it while it got fixed or replaced. Given I wasn't used to having it I probably wouldn't miss it so I gave Kies another try. This is unlike my phone which I need to work and, after it wiped and failed to restore my data and settings, I haven't updated my phone. I know I really should but once burnt twice shy.
I haven't used Kies for over a year, in that time it has improved significantly and actually did what it claimed to!
My initial reluctance to use it was based off my initial experience with it, it seems like Samsung have listened to feedback and fixed it up which is good news for us.
Now we just need to patiently wait for the JB release, hopefully it will be like the update for the GS2 and include the fancy features, smart stay being the one I expect will be most useful for a tablet.
I was wrong, Kies still has some problems.
I thought I'd plug my SGS2 in to see what would happen, it doesn't detect it although windows has no problems talking to it and letting me copy files via explorer.
I did the 'troubleshoot connection' procedure and all it does is reinstall the USB driver, since doing that neither device will connect to Kies!
Time to uninstall and try again I guess, SO frustrating given the size of company Samsung is.
Yep.
Samsung fraks it up on a number of fronts.
I think they need to learn that putting 5000 versions of devices on the market and then providing crappy support is an approach to business that leaves a bad impression.

How come I can't get 6.0 OTA? Says no updates for Shield (stuck on 5.1.1)

Pretty much what the title says...
I have a Shield Tablet and I tried the system update, and it won't let me get 6.0... it says I have the latest update which is at 5.1.1 anyone know what can this be and how I can get aorund it?
and lastly, I put in a request for the 6.0.1 with vulkan, but I'm curious why I can't get 6.0... is this a known problem?

Is your device rooted and whatnot? If so sometimes the update feature is affected and you might have to remedy that first. If not, it could be a roll out time line situation serial number order type of thing. I don't own this device yet personally but tomorrow when mine shows up I'll make sure and see if I have an update available(Nj).
no, it's a stock device and I got a while back... Would be nice to push it to the device via adb maybe? and it's a great device. you'll love it. Price is great, build quality is decent and it's very powerful!
I have the LTE model in the US and no update for me either.. I am not sure why this one is taking so long after the WiFi version. Every other update was released at the same time..
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using Tapatalk
Hard to answer without knowing what device you have but I am going to throw a guess and answer to go with it.
My guess, you have the US LTE version.
Answer: The US LTE ROM includes AT&T software and is also released via the AT&T network. NVIDIA had said the US LTE ROM takes several additional weeks from release for the Rest of The World version to become available when 4.0 was originally announced. That clock was most likely reset when the first 4.0 version was pulled and a new version (thus restarting the clock) was released on the 18th.
As promised when it arrived I checked for the update and sure enough it was there. I do hope we can help figure out what your issue is.
