Does anyone have problems with the mobile data on this phone shutting off by itself? On stock 2.2.

T-Mobile --> iPhone --> AT&T Infuse === Whammy!
I am on AT&T and when on stock Infuse, I didn't experience any data loss.

First off, I'm a T-mobile USA customer. I just bought the T-mobile Sensation 4g. This is my upgrade from the T-mobile HD2 (3G phone) which I still have.
I get decent 3G internet connectivity on the HD2 but no internet connectivity at all on the Sensation 4G (not even the slower EDGE data speeds). The 4g icon shows on the Sensation but I cannot connect to anything requires internet connectivity. I can only make phone calls. I checked all the data settings on the phone and everything looks to be in order. The mobile network is connected, the network mode is gsm/wcdma auto, the network operator is t-mobile, the apn is epc.tmobile.com, and the "enable always-on mobile data" box is checked.
Can anyone help / advise me on this? I'm not sure if it's a sim card or data plan issue. I searched the threads but did not find an answer.
If I were you I would take it back to t mobile and get a new one

I didn't buy it from t-mobile (but from a private seller). I put another person's t-mobile sim card in the phone and it connected to the internet and accessed websites immediately. This is why I'm thinking it's either my sim card or my data plan (it's definitely not the phone). Again, my sim card in my HD2 (3G phone) gets internet connection just fine. I don't want to upgrade the data plan if I don't have to. I'm grandfathered into my current plan with unlimited text and web for $59.99 (no contract). I don't trust customer service (they will say anything to get you to switch to a higher priced plan and a 2-year contract - they're calling me almost everyday now to try to switch me to a contract plan - I won't even answer the phone when I see the number). I'd rather for someone who knows what's going on to tell me the truth rather than t-mobile customer service lying to me just to get me to spend more money (lol).
check your HD2's APN settings
write them down and change your APN settings on yr sensation
apn settings are the same on both devices (epc.tmobile.com). Thanks.
What data plan are you using? When I switched from a BlackBerry to an Android device I had to call tmo and get on the right data plan.

I got the smartphone unlimited web data plan. It came bundled with my even more plus phone plan. I was using it with my HD2 and got decent 3G speeds no problem. Is it possible that because the HD2 is officially a windows mobile phone that my data plan may not be "android compatible"? Note that I was running android on my HD2 and getting data just fine without having to do anything.

That might be the problem, I think all android phones need the "android data"

You need to change your data plan. Call customer care and tell then you now have an android phone. They can adjust your plan accordingly and without a change in cost.
I had this same problem when I picked up mine. It's an easy fix.

ok. looks like i gotta call t-mobile. they scare me. they called me last week, said my plan was no longer available, my service would be disrupted and then tried to switch me over to a contract plan (not asking me if i want to switch but telling me i'm "eligible" for another plan and actually tried to just switch me right over the phone - i hung up the phone). That's crazy. They've been calling me practically everyday since (automated call - once you answer, they put on a live customer service rep). I don't plan to switch. So I'm gonna call them and try to get my connectivity issue sorted out and hoping they don't start badgering me to switch plans. I think they just want to get me out of my "cheap" plan (500 minutes, unlimited text, smartphone unlimited data - $59.99). Even though they discontinued the even more plus plans, I should be grandfathered. Anyway.........
Data Issue Resolved
Thanks everyone for your input. It turns out that it was the data plan. I was not aware that t-mobile has a data plan sepcifically for android devices (go figure). They switched me to an android data plan (at no extra cost). I'm now up and running data just fine on my Sensation. As trivial as this was (to you guys) it was very important to me. Again, thanks.
I'll visit a retail store in your area and inquire about their Best Value Plan ever. $49.99/month unlimited minutes, text and data. It's only available in retail stores.

they don't have a specific data plan. it's all the same stuff. it's just their way of getting all of us older customers off of our non-tiered data plans to their "Android Approved" (i wish there was a sarcasm font) tiered data plans at a higher cost. what they did is see that you had a newer phone on an older plan & blacklisted your IMEI until you switched over. If you would have put your SIM back in the HD2 it would've worked perfectly.
Is there a way to avoid paying that god awful data plan when using a android smart phone? I recently bought a HTC Inspire 4G to use as a second phone but AT&T wants to double charge me on data. I already have data on my first phone I don't want it on my second phone. What can I do?
Unfortunately, AT&T forces a data plan onto any smartphone. They just want money.
T-Mobile does not force a data plan if you swap in an activated SIM, so that is a choice if you're willing to give up the better service.

The reason is because the only Android device I've ever had (aside from the Nexus One) was the Infuse that worked with MMS. When I owned an iPhone 3G and 3GS, and Blackjack II I never had problems receiving or sending MMS until I moved to Android. I'm on a GNex (unlocked). I have had mobile data disabled on my phone (always) because it costs way too much for me and I am always in WiFi anyway.
Thanks!

For the infuse, you need mobile data to be enabled in order to send or reciece mms...some phones will automatically turn data on just for mms...but not the infuse ...WiFi won't work with mms

Hello,
I dropped my GS3 and had to send it in to Samsung to get the screen and digitizer replaced.
I have my old Motorola Droid and I wanted to transfer my service to it while my GS3 is being repaired.
I know that since June 28th if you have a 3G phone on Verizon and upgrade to a 4g phone, you will be forced into a capped data plan.
Since I upgraded to a GS3 before then, im grandfathered into unlimited 4G.
If i activated my Droid, hence switching to a 3G a only device would i run into any issues with losing unlimited data when i switched my service back to my GS3 once it is repaired?
No because your just changing phones and not changing service. Activate the droid and patiently wait for your S3 to come back.

No since all you're doing is switching phones and not upgrading or anything like that

Exactly. I did the very same thing. Switched back and activated my OG DROID while my S3 was being jtag'd back to life. Switched back, no issue with the plan.

Above replies are correct, though if you temporarily dropped back to a feature (i.e., "dumb") phone, you would lose your unlimited plan - Verizon would claim that they need to change your plan to a non-smartphone plan in order for the feature phone to work with their network.
That's their claim, at least.

I've been having alot of trouble with the mobile hotspot lately
It either drops 4g and 3g connectivity or its really slow on "4g" connecting at less than 1mbps
Not sure what the problem is . I'm running unrooted 4.1.2 JZO54K
You may just have a poor signal. You should consider rooting and flashing a custom ROM like cyanogen, plus flashing a new radio/modem.

sis you already conduct a speed test?
I have conducted a speed test. I think it does a duplicate IP. I have had similar issues when I tether using my rooted galaxy nexus on both stock mobile hospot and wifi tethering app
