so I scratched the hell out of the glass somehow... apparently a small bit of ash on the table was all it took... So my question is: Has anybody successfully obtained a new glass from Asus?
Not sure if it's also call "touchpad" but try here.
Maybe not since it's only 11euros

i believe that part is referring to the mouse pad on the dock...

Yeah that make more sense.
There are no replacements, believe me i spent 6 to 8 hours searching yesterday, now im just selling my tablet for parts my glass was cracked. The only way is to find some one with a broken transformer with that glass still intact and buy the glass from them. Sorry to here about your transformer
possible fix?
Well how deep are these scratches?
If they are just a mess of em but not too deep you could always try an aluminum silicate compound thatcould fill in shallow scratches .. i know 3m makes some stuff as polish
The scratches aren't incredibly deep.. I set the tablet face down on a desk on top a piece of paper... I thought the paper would protect it, but there was a few specs of sand or ash or crumbs or something on there and when i picked it up I got 5 or 6 scratches in the screen. Not deep, but definitely can be seen with the screen on.
I found a product called "apple sauce polish"... http://applesaucepolish.com
anybody tried it or anything similar and care to share their experience?
I think it read wouldn't work
This compound is advised against the use of applesauce on glass. I cant really find what its made of but the site lists use mostly on plastic covers...
Uhh here look up some 3m 06070
This stuff here is pricey but it'll last forever if you're justgonnause it to fix tablet/phone scratches..
I scratched my Transformer probably the same way. I don't care about the scratches, they are barely visible, but it made me think and I'll probably won't be buying Transformer Prime - if those things are so easy to scratch it's resell value will be poor (who wants to buy a scratched one?) and my Transformer resell value just dropped significantly probably. In that case buying new tab;et every year will be too pricy for me.
PS. I wear glassess and they appear to be harder to scratch than Gorilla Glass, I've done everything to them and they don't have a single scratch.

Remember this. Your glasses are a smaller target than the tab screen.
Still. The problem is I didn't do anything to the tablet that could've caused scratching and it's scratched. I did a lot of things to the glassses that should've caused scratching yet they are still perfect. And apart from the bigger scratch which cought my attention and could've been caused by some grain of sand caught in the wrong place there is a lot of almost invisible scratches on the border of the device (outside the screen) too. So it's not a single unlucky scratch. In a few months it will probably look like my old cellphone (which was scratched not by me - I bought it that way because it's only for testing apps).
Put on a screen protector, I think it will make the scratches invisible. Matt even better.

Yes, I'm considering that now, but if it in any way affects sharpness I won't do it. The cratches are almost invisible anyway, the problem is resell value only (which already is down, haha).

Get the clear one than, you will not notice there's a SP on the screen. Problem solve and cheap
Thanks for the advices. I'll just have to read a lot about those screen protectors and test some.
Ofcos the best part is that you can remove the SP anytime. I am using one that cost less than $5 and I cannot find any quality differences on SP brands somehow. I think they are all the same at least to me, others might have different opinion.

I've had my Z3 now for a couple weeks, came from a z2.
In my one year with the 2 I had no chips, obviously some scratches and scuffs but no chips.
My Z3 already has two chips on the top bezel one in the front and a smaller one in the back, is this a common issue?
I buy this phone because I hate cases so the dust/waterproofing is the big draw for me.
Sad to see these chips so soon..
Got the same issue here. Very bad though

Protective case is the way to go.
This may sound like comparing apple and oranges...
Imagine your car vs keys...nasty...or rubbing dust-sand on car...that is why people makes-uses protective cases...
Can u post some pictures? I intermittently use a case and sometimes not. I am leaning towards not putting a case on bcos a case seems hiding the beauty but this post bothered me. Do u own the black one?

Actually I think with a protector like that, dust still finds its way in and scratches the phone anyway.

I use a similar transparent case for mine but the feel in the hand with it bare is just awesome. I put it in the case when charging bec people/I might accidentaly kick the wire and send my Z3 flying. Lol

Dunno... My phones are always naked and I never have any issues. There are scratches and what not, but that's what makes it special.
I have foil on the back and not a single spot on the metal body...
I'll never put a case on the I s thing, never did with my z2 either.
tempered glass front and back and that's it.
I also make sure my phones always in a pocket by itself.. Wasn't asking for advice on cases simply asking if this problem is wide spread.
Seems odd these company's change materials from one flagship to the next when the previous one clearly had a more durable finish.

Sorry for off topic...
But nothing in the world happens by itself, if you scratch aluminum (not so scratchproof material) it will show marks. Never heard that on Z3 is used some kind of extra soft aluminum...to put it short...good luck...
Looking for anyone who's been able to locate the official Samsung screen protector here in the US at a physical store (Best Buy, AT&T, etc) or a reputable online store.

I'm amazed at the lack of official accessories for the launch.
Then again, look what happened to best buy/target.
I guess we will just have to wait...
I received mine. Haven't installed it yet. But it's in my grubby little hands. Mobilefun VERY early order.
Ok, installed.
Fits better than many of the aftermarket ones based on what I've seen for reviews. Sides are curved already, little cutouts at the corners so they don't pull up.
After several hours of bubblepushing, I've got it almost perfect. I also think letting it get nice and heated up on the wireless charger helped, tho one of the sides still has some bubbles and the curved screen makes it really tough to push them out. They get shoved around. I suspect all would have similar issues.
it feels less rubbery than say a Zagg, not as smooth as glass. The curves do NOT make it easier to install but if you take your time, and have plenty of patience, it should go fine.
Inside the box, you get 2 screen protectors, a 2 inch square microfiber cloth and some dust removal stickers. No cleaner, no instructions but the case had nice foam padding.... It does not state wet or dry install. I went with dry.
I scrapped the stickers and mf cloth and used real cleaner and a much bigger microfiber cloth. Also got my bathroom all steamy to clear dust particles because there's nothing more OCD than a big piece of lint under your screen.
Now, you're going to want to know if it'll work with cases. Here's the rub. I only have the official S-VIEW case and it seemed to be fine there, didn't push up the sides "YET".
I've had it out of the case for HOURS after the install and just put it in 10 minutes ago.
Samsung got the fit nearly perfect, not unexpected. It is their device.
It's NOT the cheapest one out there and it seems rather hard to find for now, but so far, I'm "ok" with it. Time will tell.
I'll post at a later date/time if the sides start pushing up or the remaining bubbles don't get worked out. I cannot test it with any other case as I almost always use the s-view one.

I think you can get them for CA from the same website, from what I gather everything is shipped from the UK anyway.
Edit: Yup, found it: http://ca.mobilefun.com/official-samsung-galaxy-note-7-screen-protector-60374
Is there an orange-peel effect on this original Samsung screen protector? Since it's a bit rubbery like Zagg.
No orange peel effect, it's not like the original Zagg, more like the HD one. Feels like hard plastic and not glass tho.
followup notes.
Still attached to the sides fine. Have taken the phone in and out of the sview case several times now to put in the Gear VR. Not once has it pushed up the sides.
The remaining bubbles have worked their way out now. I switched tips on my spen as suggested and it feels fine.
I think it's a keeper. Plus they give you 2 so I have a spare for when/if I tear this one up.
What tip you did you switch too? I got my screen protector on the way.

The white one felt the best. YMMV.
Hmmm, I dunnooo.......
I have serious doubts about this being actual OEM. But if it works, HEY, why not (key takeaway)....been trying to get this since before release. If China can make Burberry bags that are identical to their "genuine" counterparts well then........
Anyway, if the ones from "Mobile Fun" really are OEM, I am curious to know how they got them, seeing as though Samsung themselves haven't started selling this item yet.
I think the design is ingenious, with the corner niches to allow for adherence to the beveled corners and curved sides.

I should add that I'm using an IQ Shield. First one was total garbage, they sent a replacement, just applied the replacement they sent me (looks like it might be a winner, though it's curing now so will update with results.
Requires extreme patience, minimal spray and a hairdryer but it IS possible. Sorry to take off track.
Waiting for OEM SP's to be made available in the States.

UPDATE* Second IQ Shield is better, and let me tell you, I followed the instruction video, and card perfectly, BUT, the edges are starting to lift again.
Ordered the (as advertised) OEM Screen Protector from MobileFun.com ... So this will have to do for now, until the Samsung one comes in.
And lastly, I see everyone blaming the manufacturers of screen protectors, they are all garbage, because it's near impossible getting the curved edges and beveled corners to stay down, even with a wet install.
The Note 7 has a sharp curve, as opposed to a slight arch (like on previous Samsung curved screens), hence it is that much harder to keep down.

Hi there.
I've got the problem that I have to decide between two devices. P9 or H8.
The H8 looks, imo, better and feels better. A bit thicker and heavier. That's what I like, until now I use the one M8, there I know what I've got in my hands
The biggest deal breaker so far is the back side. Made of Glas. I hate this kind of coolness, that seems to be more important than durability.
Additional there is in Germany no warranty for the first months to get front or back replaced if broken.
So what's your experience with the phone? Already dropped it out of hand or pocket? Perhaps landing on back or front? Did it survive everything so far, or was a side broken?
Next point is the price, honor 8 399€, P9 519€....
If it would have a metal back.....
I'm looking forward for your answers!
Greetings
Patrick
You can read something from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/screen-strong-t3456686 it gets scratched easilly with micro scratches (As EVERY device with back glass. I know this because i had the xperia Z1 and my friend has S6 edge which got scratched too) and I guess as long as you get a case and dont drop it you should be fine.

Thanks for the link.
Well that means that I will call my market and NOT take it. They shall sell it someone else.
A case and a tempered glass is not the problem.
But a crack from a minor drop, and easy scratches and so on, not thank you. That's not worth a saving of 120 euro....
Damned.
..
Well if you dont have both hands left you wont drop it. That's up to you but i also prefer to buy phones in classic shops instead of dealing with sending my phone for repair through mail (in case of RMA). This is why i bought Honor 8 instead of OP3.
It's not just because of my left hands
I also got a child with 1,5 years. And believe me, somehow she always gets her hand on my phone. And yes, I am sometimes a little bit left handed. My M8 fell down several times, always in a case, but never something (noticeable) happened. But it's getting sooooo slow, I need to make factory reset at least once a month to get a smooth phone back. That's annoying. And that's the point why I need a new one. Or want a new one. Depends on the point of view
And after I know that I definitely WILL let it fall down sometimes.... I go for some phone without a glass back. Seems to me a bit better for my money
And yes, I ordered the last phones on Amazon. But we hate each other now, so I will buy it at a store, or a bit cheaper at O2. But never ever again Amazon for electric stuff.
But I leave the point of this thread.
The glass seems to be ok, as long as you use a foil on the front and a case and never let it fall down.
Point one and two ist fine. Point three impossible. So I have to choose something else... Really a bit bad, cause I like the optic....
Point to add to this...
I've had my Honor 8 for a few weeks. I've never dropped it or set it face down. I don't put it in a pocket with anything else.
I've got a LOT of scratches on the face already. It's really disappointing. I looked online and to get a tempered screen protector (which looks like garbage because they don't cover the whole screen) I'd have to wait until mid October. I'm sure the screen will be in horrible shape by then.
I love the phone but they cheaped out on an important part.

Did you check out Amazon for screen protectors? I found a few on there BUT the best one in my opinion is the Skinomi FULL BODY wrap. Yeah the ones on amazon ship to me in October, no earlier. I'm pretty disappointed because I don't use cases or screen protectors on my phones, but my Nexus 5X was fine for 8 months so far with no scratches. I've had this one less than a month and it's starting to get bad.
I recently purchased a Mi Mix 2 from ebay, supposedly in perfectly mint condition and unused. Well I quickly discovered that the glass has 2 small scratches as if something heavy fell on it or as if the seller dropped the phone on its face... I'm getting nowhere with ebay or buyers protection so I'm looking into my other options.
Is it possible to exchange the glass alone (not the entire IPS panel)? Forgive me if that's something obvious, I've never done that before but willing to learn and getting help from friends with more experience.
I found offerings for example on aliexpress that seem to be what I need but still I have no clue whether this would actually work. Also I don't know how to remove the glass, is this process the same for all models? Can it be done?
If you do manage to replace the glass you'll probably be one of the first to do it. The ceramic body would probably make it quite difficult and without a teardown on i-fixit or wherever I personally wouldn't want to go at it.
Can you not just put a decent tempered glass protector on as usually the adhesive slightly fills imperfections and will make them invisible once it's applied?

Keep in mind that you are looking at only the glass. If glass and digitizer are glued together this will still be a tough fix.

Honestly I don't care if you have a dome and it's the best ever. This is my experience with the dome. Sum it up. Low quality trash. Brand New sealed ordered from Whitestone out of the box it had a pretty deep scrach in it. And for how much junk Zagg is at least there product does not come out of the box scrached. Attached is an image under magnification.
Check out the glass before you install and before you remove your current protector. You are not buying quality here. I had high expectations for this but after this I'll just go back to brands that preform simple steps in quality control.
Lots of people are pleased. I for one say a scratch out of the box of a new product at this price point is 100% un acceptable. And this is the only brand that I seen this in. In my experience this is the lowest quality glass out for the note 9. Yeah Zagg has some poor design choices like edge adhesive and on the elite the black borders. But the glass is flawless and clear. Unlike this Whitestone.
If you can't spot a scratch that deep I now question the quality of the optical adhesive they use. I work in the optoelectronics industry. I use optical adhesive pretty often so I'm going to check out the other tube and see how it stacks up against the stuff I use.
Full review will cover the unboxing, install as well as that moment that I discover that scrach with my reaction lol. Also high res images of the scratch along with precise mesurements of it. And why I have it at work I'll be going more into the glass using some of the equipment we have here.
If the dome you got is flawless that's great. I'm happy for you. However that's not my experience with this product. my review is a sample size of 1. There are way they could of protected the glass like other manufacturer's do but they cut that corner and lowered product quality to keep cost down. After all the reviews I bought with confidence and received a damaged product. I have contacted Whitestone about this but I will say that Zagg offered to send out a elite free to replace the one I took off and said that I should not be punished for buying into the hype and the note 9 deserves a quality product to protect the best display on a smartphone. That says alot about Zagg by eliminating the shipping. We will see how Whitestone handles this. If they send out a replacement that is a representation of what others have prazed I would be more then happy. But I think they are going to try and play the pay to ship that back, then pay for shipping on another product so we can ring even more money out of you. But sorry guys. You burned me one time. You won't burn me again.
Again. I haven't seen anyone else with this issue. As far as I know this is a single case. There may be more who knows but I'll be 100% honest in this. The picture was taken under magnification to show it's not just a scratch in the oleophobic coating. From a picture you can't feel the scratch catch your finger nail when you rub it. If Whitestone decides to take care of this issue I will update this post with how they handled it and there response. Until then for all those who are ocd about there displays. This is what a scratch looks like.
Update
Whitestone is in communication on how to make this right. I have discovered another issue. This is with the oleophobic coating. One spot has some heat damage. I sent them this picture to see how this could happen in there process.
Working in the optoelectronics industry for years. I look forward to offering them some input on how to keep things like these from hurting there brand to new potential customers. First product from them and as of right now the last. I pay for the premium product I demand a premium product. I will keep this update with there solution on this matter and what they think can cause the issues.
The scratch I believe was cased when after inspection when placed in the bag. The bag is not optics quality and being so is may contain debris. Example out air cans we use are not normal dust cans. They are filtered to sub micron purity. There's quality and then optical quality. When placed in the bag the scratch was formed. Protective film would ensure that never happens or optical quality bags. Corner was cut and the product suffered. That's a fact. As for the oleophobic coating. I would need more info on there production line. I have a theory of what could cause that. I have seen similar issues with microscope optical coatings on production equipment.
So far they have replied quickly and seem eager to make things right and assure me that the product meets there quality standards.
I think when finished I will have the most in depth review of this. Since I had to take it to work for pictures I was able to test the included adhesive, cure light optical power and make exact cure times required for a full proper cure. Mesure the thickness of the adhesive layer under the glass and other stuff. It's probably going to be about a 30-45min video I will post on YouTube. If interested I am willing to do the same for other protectors if there is interest. Since most reviews are just stick it on and it fits so it must be the best. We can dive into things a bit more and actually look at the product.
Update.
Told to use the warranty form online. Pictures were sent to there hq in Korea. They made a coupon code that will wave the shipping. Excellent support.

Mine was scratched pretty deeply as well out of the box. I just don't feel like going through the installation process again, so I guess I'll just keep it as long as I can without it driving me crazy.
I advise everyone to inspect the glass of the protector before installing.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's not hard to put on. Maybe next time you would take your time and you won't have user error.
Update they messaged me me back seeing how we can fix this. I told them what I think caused this on there end but I have another issue and asked them about there quality control. Needed info as if I tell my subs to buy something it's of quality. No excuses for this.
I'm not mad about the scratch. Gave me content and for the first time ever the dome is getting looked at. And if we cannot get crazy I can fire up the Scanning electron microscope and we can dive into it lol.
Just for reference. Was your scratch 1/4 inch under the bixby button and to the right 1/4 inch going vertically?

That's amazing. Any chance in showing some glass defects?

Factory ones. Ones that the eye cannot see. Perhaps in the glass areas and also th frame . Especially the area where the glass meets the frame , the so called gap.

Yeah I'll get see I day or two and I'll start a thread for it.
My experience from the Dome Glass... I ordered the 2 Pack from Amazon, I got the package a little bit wet from the LOCA glue. I successfully installed the glass on my N9, but it had a small scratch on it that I noticed after I turned on the UV light to dry the glue. After about one week little cracks appeared in the glue I contact Amazon and they replaced it (had to sent it back). Now I have the new one on my screen for 3 weeks and everything is good. I hope it will stay that way.
When it works it's the best screen protector I have ever had (and I had them all).

There support was fast. From what I seen I rate this a 3 on a scale to 5. The oleophobic coating is absolutely trash. But we'll see how it is on the replacement since I know there is a defect in this units coating. I'll give my final opinion on it when the replacement comes in and will compare the quality of the glass and coating to some other brands.
