Jelly Bean the next Android Os - Android General

people the next operating system may be Jelly Bean what do you think will be new and cool with this next os
i thing one will be the ui will be green and very transparent

Damn I was hoping it would be Jawbreaker

Well Jawbreaker dosent sound as apealing as Jelly Bean in my way of thinking lol

I was hoping for Strawberry Shortcake..

Here's my thread on it haha http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962615 I guessed jelly bean a while ago!

I think it should be called the prime, because we don't know when it will come out.

Btw, what new things did Ice Cream Sammich bring anyway?

I though, GOBSTOPPER!!!

ics brought a new ui experence a there is allot of changes look at some of the roms

it has to start with a "J"... Jelly bean was on my mind for last 3 months... let see what comes out..

Jellybean, or whatever it will be called, will most likely not be a major upgrade.
Android 1.5 Cupcake = Widgets, market, revolutionary!
Android 1.6 Donut = Lame-ass API upgrade
Android 2.0 Eclair = Woop woop!
Android 2.1 Eclair = Just live wallpapers? Lame (although this completely replaced 2.0)
Android 2.2 Froyo = New looks, JIT compiling and push. Huge improvement.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread = Slightly updated looks and minor performance increase
Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich = Major revamp.
Android versions differ between major and minor. I expect a slightly updated look, maybe some performance improvements and a better (Chrome-based) browser. The Android version after Jellybean (Kaiser Roll?) will most llikely bring more new and shiny stuff.

I'm guessing "Jelly Roll" rather than "Jelly Bean".
A Jelly Roll is a substantial dessert, (as are all previous version names, with the possible exception of Honeycomb) whereas a Jelly Bean is just a piece of candy, a tiny snack.

I am hoping that now major version will be kept a yearly thing now.
Like Gingerbread, that wasn't really an upgrade over froyo..
Just like Honeycomb was 3.0, 3.1 and then 3.2, ICS should just be version 4 and version 5 be Jelly Bean.. It also might stop people thinking Android is fragmented
But yea, I think 4.1 should be out by MWC as well, well from leak picture a few weeks back anyway.

what is the fascination of Android to give mouth watering names to the OS series

Jack Daniels
Jackfruit
Jaffa Cakes
Jaffa orange
jaffas
jalapeƱo
Jalapeno peppers
Jalebi
Jam
jam doughnuts
jam tart
Jamaca
Jambalaya
Jasmine flower
Java coffee
Jawbreakers
Jellied eels
jello
Jelly
Jelly Babies
jelly doughnut
jelly roll
jellybeans
Jellyfish
jerky
Jike
Jolly Rancher
Jub Jubes
Jubes
Juice
juniper berries
juniper leaves
junk food

JellyBean sounds funky LOL.

HoHo
Muffin
Milkshake

Jelly Roll is good, maybe Jelly Doughnut.

I wonder how long it'll take them to get through the entire alphabet. (What dessert starts with 'Z', anyway?)

ICS Ported to the Nexus One.

Title says it all. If you hadn't heard, Google has recently released the SDK for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, giving developers a whole new bag full of goodies to work with and create the future of Android. ICS has a score of new features, and we're all eagerly awaiting the source code release to get some custom ROMS cooking for other devices besides the Galaxy Nexus.
One enterprising developer going by the Youtube handle dr1337md has managed to port ICS to the Nexus One, what is by current standards a pretty outdated device. He's published a video showing off his work, which looks pretty solid. The OS does have some kinks and isn't all that quick on such a dated device, but it is promising to already see the update working on another device. Check out the video and enjoy a little more preview of Ice Cream Sandwich.
What can this mean for our Droid Charges? Hopefully something good will happen from this!

oh gooooooood ICS on the Charge... how wonderful that would be :] i'm a flashaholic, i just love flashing ****. it keeps my phone from ever feeling "dated". I hope ICS really does get ported soon after the source is released!
Soooo cool!

Jelly Bean = 4.1

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...uted-shows-android-jelly-bean-is-version-4-1/
jelly bean seems to be an "incremental" upgrade from ics, which I don't mind since ics pretty much gets it right and is a gamechanger. interesting to see google partnering with nvidia though...not sure how well that's going to go
Anticipating the release. I hope it brings along some new features, which puts it further ahead of iOS.
i hope jelly bean bring impovement to android phones
I hope phones get Jellybean in a timely manner. The majority of new devices that have come out this year aren't even on ICS yet.
This is another reason why I only buy Nexus Phones. I am sick and tiered of not having ICS and then something else comes out and I am behind by 2 OS now
Im hoping the nexus 7 also has a 3G w/phone version. And minimal bezel. I'd be on board.
4.1 was to be expected. ICS was a pretty major upgrade merging phone and tablet there will likely be a few minor releases until Google adds something big like lapdock mode.
nVidia refused yo release their Tegra 2 Source Code for the G2x, what if they do the same with this device?!

Android 4.1 ports?

As Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) has just been released and has already been ripped from the GNex, I am wondering about the portability of it. It seems pretty close to ICS, so will all the mods and fixes the amazing Sensation devs came up with for ICS still work with JB with minimal tweaks? Not asking for any sort of ETA, just wondering if porting will be similar to ICS.

Jelly bean vs ics

What is the difference between these 2 Android versions?I know jelly bean is for tablets and ics is for phones but is there any need to use jelly bean?

Stupid Swype, the title is meant to be jelly bean, but I don't know how to change it :s

check this video out
And your info aren't correct. ICS is for both phones and tablets. The same will be for JB ...
JB is an upgrade for ICS fixes stuff and adds features ... see Here for more details.
uumm, jelly bean is not only for tablet..
It's an upgrade and some bugfixing as well as performance improvements over ICS.. You may or may not need that, but it's good to have..
It's not really a major leap, unlike from 2.3 to 4.0..
You only need to use newer version of android if you are the type who always want the latest and greatest.. while it's not as smooth as ICS or JB, Gingerbread is already enough for most users, especially if you are not power-user..
If you are asking that question, chances are, you don't even need ICS, let alone JB..
No offence but Google it, there are some really good articles and videos on Google, especially those that visually show the new project Butter.
And don't fear you're not alone with the Swype issues, just need to reprogram the brain to spend half the time saved by using Swype to re-read all input....nowhere near as easy as it sounds
Swyped from my DesireS
thanks

Never tried Swype, but SwiftKey 3 has never given me a problem..
Looking forward to Jelly Bean
It is the best keyboard I have found but because I say jerky more than jelly, it remembers that I'm more likely to say jerky

ics i think
For now i am enjoying the ics on my note and i am waiting for the 4.0.4 update. I am satisfied with the late release of ics on note. I have n7000 and i got the update in june. Its fluid, stable just like how ginger bread was when i got my note. Jelly bean will take time to roll. My question is why all of a sudden we need jelly beans. Why not let the developers at ease so they can really make something special for all the devices at once. In current days new os is a guarantee to hi end device.

Where is the next gen Android 5.0 ?

With WWDC 2014 from Apple, it makes me wonder what Google and Matias Duarte have in store for the next generation Android OS ?
It seems it's been a long while since Google did a major Android update, being 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich back in 2011 three years ago.
Right now stock Android seems style wise like a mixed bag of sorts, still some of the old dark Holo theme, while also the newer brighter card style stuff from Google Now launcher. And it doesn't look or feel consistent anymore, like a some of the old ICS stuff with KK stuff, but not 100% one single design road.
Do you think Google plans a major update and all new look, design, and feel to Android with a 5.0 release soon ? Or will Google just keep tweaking Android a little bit every year, with point releases like a 4.5 this Summer or Fall ?
Google I/O is in two weeks.
PS: Matias Duarte is their designer guy. He doesn't do much for the actual development, as far as I know. He's the John Ive from Google.
