ICS Ported to the Nexus One. - Verizon Droid Charge

Title says it all. If you hadn't heard, Google has recently released the SDK for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, giving developers a whole new bag full of goodies to work with and create the future of Android. ICS has a score of new features, and we're all eagerly awaiting the source code release to get some custom ROMS cooking for other devices besides the Galaxy Nexus.
One enterprising developer going by the Youtube handle dr1337md has managed to port ICS to the Nexus One, what is by current standards a pretty outdated device. He's published a video showing off his work, which looks pretty solid. The OS does have some kinks and isn't all that quick on such a dated device, but it is promising to already see the update working on another device. Check out the video and enjoy a little more preview of Ice Cream Sandwich.
What can this mean for our Droid Charges? Hopefully something good will happen from this!

No it's not an official announce at all. Didn't come from Google.
And as Honeycomb is 3.0 Ice Cream will be at leat 3.x or 4.0.

maybe even 5.0 ... srsly ? u guys all thought gingerbread is 3.0 , and now u still talking about 3.x and 4.0 ? my god
Am I missing something in that article or the statement "multiple sources inform us" along with the fact that there is no link to those sources, is the equivalent of "my uncle, who knows a guy whose cousin works as a maid for the guy who takes out the garbage and happens to be married to the lady that opened the door at the Starbucks for me the other day that happens to know the janitor working in 3rd shift at Google told me that"?
LOL
It must be something like that...but my uncle said it is for real 2.4

Honeycomb (3.0) is tablet orientated. Sources close to google have confirmed Ice-Cream will be 2.4
Is there any ROM for 3.0 based on the preview released by Google?
Can't wait to see the screeshots
Lol 2.4? Let's hack that.
Is it necessary to release this version if Android 3.0 still has the phone mode?
The XPERIA Arc thing was a build.prop error, move along.
ye ye ye 2.4
summer is too late
ok very interesting
nice! hopefully that much improvement like 2.2 and 2.3
Well, even if its not confirmed, its still great!
Well, even if its not confirmed, its still great! I LOVE ANDROID
BURN APPLE BURN!
Jk, I still like you Apple, Androids just better.
hopefully it wont have as many bugs as 2.3 seems to be having. It feels like 2.3 was pushed out to get the Nexus S out, and it will be quickly replaced by 2.4 coming in May.
Which phones can support Ice Cream?

Honeycomb is pretty awesome!!

DJ_Steve is the man! Got that Honeycomb 3.1 running on my streak thanks to him and Hellzya! This really makes the device much sexier. The density issue is small for me since I don't have a problem reading small print, but it doesn't work for my dad at all.. luckily most web browsers support a zoom feature as that is the primary reason we have the tab. I have no questions... I'm a noob yes... but only to these boards. Not to rooting or anything like that. I love android... hell even jailbroke a few ipods. I'm just not a programmer or anything like that. If I were I wouldn't hesitate to offer help for all this beautiful android hacking.

I have CM7 on my Optimus v. I LOVE THIS THING. It's made everything about this phone, especially the battery life, better. Rooting is fun. lol. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK OOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUTTTTTTT!!!
HoneyComb is awesome!!!!
Yeah, honeycomb is awesome.Only problem is that Google decided to become [email protected]*ckers on the matter and don't release the damn source code so that it could be ported to phones.Yes,Ice Cream Sandwich will have Honeycomb's features and is near to be released, but is it the spirit of XDA to wait for official stuff?Nah,I don't think so.
Come on Google,Android is supposed to be open.I don't want to buy a tablet. Not yet at least,I don't like the Tegra 2(The Exynos on my Galaxy S II makes Tegra 2 devices look like cheap toys, that's why ).And when the Tegra 3 will be out,Ice Cream Sandwich will be out too.

Why wait? Have some HC goodness with a GB-CM7 HC themed ROM.
I love the way youtube looks on HC. I just wish more apps worked on it. I many of my favorite apps crash on me in HC, but they aren't things I can't live without. Besides, whatever doesn't run there typically does on the phone so I still get my apps one way or another. One day we will have android installed in our brains and I will have to root myself.

Roms? Why aren't there more?

Why does it seem like the galaxy tab gets more developer attention than the xoom? Is it easier or what? They have all kinds of roms whereas the xoom has like 2. Just a question.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
The car thing is some what right. The xoom came out as a "kit car", you'll need this and that BEFORE you can drive it. Where as the galaxy came complete. You can just drive it off the lot. So there is more interest in the galaxy.
That seems lame. I love my xoom. Just want to customize it more. I have no developing skills although I wish I had some. I used a adb for the first time with the xoom and it took a lot of trial and error. I have the galaxy s and flashing stuff is so easy on it(via Odin and cwm). Just wish the xoom would get more attention.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
The reason why we are not seeing ROM's is because the Honeycomb source code has not been release nor will it ever be. We will have to wait until Ice Cream Sandwich for ROM's to start popping up.
Thanks for the info gq. Seems pretty craptacular....hahaha. Well c'mon ICS. Can't wait for that release
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Also can't wait for Ice Cream Sandwich!
Need some rom for my xomm
last I heard, ICS isn't coming until Q3ish. Any updates?
Q3 Q4 who knows for sure. They just need to hurry up. It feels like tablets are kinda lacking in dev stuff.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
why in iconia tab they are able to have touchwiz and is not the same for us?
for you in the next future will be possible to mount web os3 on our xoom?
and that you know is there some new launcher dedicate to honeycomb? or u know if some one is developing it?
i love my xoom like it is, but i love play on it too.
andrea
I try to donate to all who develope for my devices, my way of letting them know its appriciated and to keep up the good work, if you cant spare much, no biggie, everyone likes to get donations, even if its a dollar or two.
On another note we could make it appear to be a rom, but would only be a theme, a sham. Its definatly source code realese that is the problem.
Ice cream sanwich is google bringing honeycomb to the phone right, i thought, ics on phones, but honeycomb on tablets(because of its tablet opimization). Someone please correct me if im wrong, still fuzzy on the part.
Last thing, still cant decode 3.2 apks with sdk, still getting brut error, anyone have any knowledge of when brut will be realeasing this fix?
ICS is supposed to be the best from gingerbread and the best from honeycomb mashed together with some other goodies included, hince the name it is also to be universal for both phones and tablets, that way making apps much more abundant.
I am also excited for what it will bring the demo at the google i/o conf was amazing to say the least and i am sure the just scratched the surface.
Don't forget that alot of developers were give a samsung Google I.O.
I'm sure it helped a bit not having to pay for one.

Ice Cream Sandwich for Gtablet?

Anyone have an inkling on the possibilities of Ice Cream Sandwich for our Gtablet?
I guess anything is possible. Nobody thought we'd have working Honeycomb as of 3 months ago...
Damn, us gtab users are demanding. Ice scream sandwich isn't even out yet, and there's already a demand for it.
Doubt it

Like everything else for the G Tab it will be a hack since Viewsonic told its G Tab fan base to go ef themselves.
Ice cream sandwich will be open source unlike honeycomb. There might be possible that NVidia also can release drivers because source availability. If things go in the mentioned way then we can expect Ice cream sandwich. But ICS will be merge of GB and HC, not quite sure how much value add it will provide to the end users, but for Google and Vendors it great leap because of one version works for all. Lets wait and see...

I guess Google held back release of HC code because of fear of the two separate version of Android code in the market. Google wants no confusion, and so decided to release ICS to the communities and vendors. Again, it all depends ont he company's decision at that moment. Lets wait and see...
Hope for the best always
gTablet done, IMHO
No signs of any life re extending gTablet's life by manufacturer. And in today's aftermarket $MMI conference call another two tablets coming by year's end. No details other than 4LTE. A crowded field, all playing catch-up to the iPad 1/2. If the gTablet gets any further enhancements it will only due to the great work of the XDA developers here.

Ice Cream Sandwich?

So seeing as google just had their conference as well as the release of the ICS SDK, will we be able to see some ROMS come to our device? I don't know anything about coding or any of this stuff, but ICS does look tasty.
SDK is for app develop... not for Rom developing =(
Ics source code has to be released for custom roms

dump onto the Android source site it will probably be a week it two after the nexus is released. That's the usual way it had worked in the past.

I am interested to see if CM will make use of this now! I have CM7.1 on my phone right now and love it over ASOP 2.3.4. Any one know if they will work on moving to the 4.0 source now?
Well, a off-topic comment on AndroidCentral said that XDA already has it's hands on the Nexus system dump.
I have a viewsonic gTablet too, and I have tried some ROMs based on Honeycomb "dumps" from the Xoom, I was very unimpressed (by no fault of the developers, they did amazing work on porting things) so I think I will wait on roms built from source rather than a dump from phone with different hardware.
CyanogenMod 9 (yes, that's right: 9) will be based on ICS. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before we see it on the DHD/Inspire.
I was more interested in the 4.65" 1280x720 display. The pixel density is almost the same as a iPhone 4

Why not 8? Is the CM team going to skip 8 in favor of 9?
Also, from all the information I've read, nobody still makes a clear statement on this: Is Ice Cream Sandwich hardware accelerated? Because if it's not, that's a huge shame.

CM8 will be honeycomb (3.0) if the source ever gets released... which would make ICS (4.0) CM9.
Let me google that 2nd question for you
Ha - not being a ****, just always wanted to use a lmgtfy link
They could technically make something based on the SDK (something DeeperBlue did for the Nook Color with Honeycomb), but since we expect a soon-ish source release for ICS, putting all of that work into it would be kind of ridiculous
Yes it will be hardware accelerated

I've been out of the game since I first rooted my phone, so you're thinking the Inspire will be able to run the new ICS phone OS?
I may have to start reading up on how to do this stuff again, this one looks awesome.

yes it will be able to run it, seeing as we saw it being tested on a nexus s, which has less ram and what in my opinion is a crappier processor(still pretty good though), so im pretty sure itlll run it just fine
i have my fingers crossed that di11igaf will make another amazing rom (sandwichbeast? icecreambeast? icemonster? abominablesnowman?)!!! If not, then i'll be waiting for cm9 to hit!
There is a nice ICS ADW theme out there right now. No functionality, but the look and feel is cool.
