I'd really appreciate it if someone on here can figure out a way to get the Wii Controller app running on the EVO with or without going around whatever the problem is with Sense UI. I'm using a stock rooted EVO running the latest rooted updates.

Just posted under the other thread, this one being the original I thought the information would be better here. I most recently tested "Wiimote Controller" (free version) on Avalaunch's Deodexed 2.2 ROM, and keep coming up with a failed to initialize error, same thing happens with stock.
Still looking for a way to get this to work... bump.

I looked into this a few weeks ago, I found the actual developer of the wiimote app had posted for help trying to solve the issue, it sounds like it's something as basic as sense using a custom function for bluetooth syncing and the developer doesn't know which function call to use as a replacement. The function could very likely exist, he just needs to know what it is.

We need to connect him with some of the other seasoned developers, htc would probably share whatever the function he needs to use is if someone would just ask using the correct channels.. I've seen several developers in the evo forums get direct responses from HTC over proprietary code issues, I think it's all about persistance.
Bump. We despritly need this support for our EVOs...
if cyanogen can do it, someone else should be able to mimic that and port it over to us

the problem is the bluetooth drivers in EVERY rom that has HTC Sense. Period. Unless HTC fixes it, it more than likely won't happen. it's not exactly something that can be flashed or installed...

I tried Cognition 2.2b and had problems with the music player which always showed an annoying notification and the call logs that also showed annoying notifs, another problem was wifi connectivity, but its safe to assume that these cells arent the best for wifi. And at Launcher Pro it didnt show my settings options when i pressed and hold the home key.

It's all good bro, we were all new at one time. I like running the i9000 re-oriented kernel by xcaliburinhand. This way you are able to run a i9000 ROM. The reason I like this kernel is because I have no need for any of the OC/UV kernels. The captivate is already fast as hell (especially with voodoo). DesignGears probably has the best kernel for froyo, but I haven't experimented with too many different ones. haha I am also new to flashing.

Kernel: Cog's kernel that comes with the ROM
I had no difficulty upgrading from Cog 9.1.1. Just make sure all your stuff is up-to-date, and make sure to follow directions... it's all pretty "cut and paste" past that.
Best kernel goes to the setiron imo, that universal lagfix is just unreal, coupled with the overclock/340mb of memory and the speedmod nothing comes close to it in terms of speed.
Best rom is debatable, when i decided to switch to froyo i compared all of the current froyo roms and decided on killer23d's rom. If you want the two combined get MikeyMike01's rom.
Setiron's compilation just has everything you could want. Im runing it with DRS 3.0 and its awsome.
The one I am using....no issues
however I have not tried any others. I may give Cyanogen a try if they build one but I like Cognition now.
Thread would be more valuable if a person 'voting' for a specific rom would list pros and cons:

He really should add it, everyone else is adding it to their rom. Not sure why he's making his users miss out on its amzing features.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to disable Sense on the Evo Shift.
I've seen it done on the original Evo, but I heard that HTC phones with Froyo cannot use the default android launcher anymore.

AOSP roms (which will come when there is permanent root) do indeed liberate the phone from sense
It will not get rid of sense at all, but you can install ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro to have a different/more customizeable home screen expirenece.
When using those you will not be able to use sense widgets either though.

Here's some good info on rooting. It's a linux term, and in a way is similar to "jailbreaking," but they're not exactly the same. If you want to root when permanent root becomes available for the Evo Shift, I'd play it safe and not update at all.
Does anyone know who is working on getting us permanent root for our phones?

impaler, I just looked at your battery mod, lol, I know "just". It looks pretty cool, I know you have plans to test it on the Shift, but what icons will there be available for stock rom use? I like the plain battery icon but with the numbers in it like in Cyanogen 6, is that in there?

In spare parts there is an option to set the task manager to normal or aggressive. I never noticed this in my other phone. Is it along the same line as autokiller?

It should be different. Autokiller is a min free manager, which is much different from task killers. At this point in the progress of android, a task killer will not do much, except drain the battery.
What's up XDA. I have officially decided to start developing since the Sidekick 4G doesn't have alot of developers. I was about to start before but I changed my mind because I didn't feel like learning java (which i'm learning now). I already know VB, Python, Lisp, and a little C and I already use Linux Distros all the time. I am working on a Red Gingerbread Themed ROM called FreshBlood. It will probally be released in about 2 weeks. I'm in the 11th grade and don't get out of school until 4:10. I get home about 5:00 and go out straight outside to play basketball, football, or hit a J. On weekends, it's Rockband and CoD modding. Therefore, my projects will take weeks, even months, to complete.
I just need to know a few things:
1. What's the best Linux Distro to setup my workstation
2. I'm using a tutorial I found on google. Where can I find good a tutorial for Java
3. What other tools will I need. I think I have them all
1. although I personally use and prefer archlinux, the guides for compiling refer to dependencies for Ubuntu 9.04,9.10, and 10.04, so those would be the easiest to use if you don't want to have to hunt endlessly for packages.
2. unless you're making an app, you won't be using Java. I would suggest searching around the forum for the mod that you're looking for, and most people will post the source of their mod, or at least explain how they did it. for this you'll need to look at baksmali and smali.
3. you'll need baksmali, smali, adb (android sdk), patience.

Wow, this is all overwhelming but I'm pushing to understand it all.
Do research and make about 10 test roms before you even think about releasing a official one .
Basically, the results of desmali'ing a file, is the mnemonics/syntax field of that document. ANything that is not there, should be regular language (method, void, etc, regular java). If you know java, that file + what you know, is desmali files.
You still working on this? Not trying to rush at all. Just curious.

Hopefully it's great. I went back to stock until a rom that is more stable is released. I've tried them all. Eventually the touchscreen stops working off and on. And a lot of other issues. Sucks that stock is the best thing for this phone right now. Good luck. I'll give it a try when your done.

Man, I just broke my laptop charger so once my battery dies, all development will stop. I won't have the money to buy another one til' next week. Hello guys, Just testing out a new rom.
It is made off 4 Kornerz ROM from Diablo67. It is call 4KMods, It is running original kernal but is compatible with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570308 which is the underworld Sense Kernal.
Edit:The release of the 4KCM7 ROM is here only because it is going to be the "Light Weight" edition, CM7 itself is not fully functional as of this post, but will be my main priority for initializing the same Webtop experience from the Atrix/Atrix2/Razr/etc..
^^Also, the 4 Kornerz ROM base I am working will be more of the "Working Class, get it done right" ROM, meaning everything works 4G video etc..

Currently looking in to a way to include ubuntu or similar to the ROM, as well as a terminal or terminal shortcut to boot into it, or even use it and boot to in for use with "WebTop" Desktop dock or similar.
I found WebTop mods that may be able to boot up on the Evo, might just include an ubuntu build script for easy install/download?

Just put CM7 into my Kitchen, and I will also be doing work on that, CM7 will be easier to do the built in ubuntu with as it is just pretty much a base, BUT I'll do minimal mods as far as CM7 goes.

As of now it is just me testing the Kitchen, as I get more experienced, I will be changing the ROM into something new and exciting but I love getting peoples opinions on things so..

Well I am also learning scripting and such, Maybe add a "Webtop" Like feature as well..
idk does anyone have any ideas as far as features they want there Evo to do?
I am open to anything, and if i can do it, I will.

Yeah, I was thinking using CM7 as a base if we were to include a "WebTop" Feature which I think we should call "The VIP Korner" Since you know I based it off 4 Kornerz ROM.
The problem is IDK what to use as far as scripts, where would I get a script that will download AND install ubuntu for you, Like an all-in-one script to do it and then include a terminal app to run it?

I would love to help, but sadly I know close to nothing about development. Would there be an issue with having terminal pre-installed, and then have the script within the ROM, and have the command to activate the script in the OP?

There would be no issues with that at all. In fact there is a rom like that for the HTC thunderbolt, but I have no idea how to port..
Why no ICS love? Whole lotta Gingerbread baking going on, not enough Ice Cream licking...don't be scurred! You wanna do something special, use ICS as a base and get creative!

I am not using ICS because it is still unstable for our device we are working on.
I will be using CM7 as the end product but I'll still be working on 4 Kornerz because to be honest I am loving the 4 corners he has put in the launcher.

How about 4Korners ICS! That would be tight! Have you flashed any ICS recently? The only thing not working is video recording, FFC, and 4G. Really unless you are a narcissistic a-hole how often do you really use it? If more people devved for Android 4.0 maybe these issues could be solved to...that's all I'm saying...We are 6 months into having ICS for our Evos and still dont have a fully functional complete ICS rom , its time to quit piddling with Gingerbread and move on....how many Sense 1.0 roms do we really need with a new launcher or rosies and mods...its like beating a dead horse...two guys can't be expected to do it all[Drew and Deck]

For one thing brother,1.0 is the most stable right now,thats why we recreate it soo much,everything works.Yea everyone wants something new,but look at the roms you mentioned,like CM7 and Synergy,none of those are fully functional,this video dont work,that 4g is borked,theres only soo much you can do with something thats not made for our devices yet,so everyone always comes back to mr.dependable,thats 1.0.At least Sandix is doing something he likes,maybe he doesnt like ICS or Bliss,or maybe hes just learning and Sense 1.0 is the easiest to learn from,he asked me if he could use the design to work with,so i told him yes,because hes wanting to learn,i like to help people that want to help themselves.
Gingerbread would be good for me. Wish y'all luck ... oh yea why don't y'all bring liquidrush ,liquidE or liquid metal rom back to life. Using a gingerbread rom as base. ??

To everyone,
I will be moving downloads to mediafire, I'll zip up the 4kmodkornerz rom and upload there (200mb limit for free users..)
Also, if anyone would like to donate so I may purchase a premium account there (downloads are decent from mediafire) and its pretty cheap or if someone could host them on their own website or something I'd be very thankful.
bimmerman7 I can only speak for myself. I have tried a few ICS roms and while nice none are as fast as GB on my EVO and I have children and do use my camera and video recording quite a bit and it has nothing to do with being narcissistic it has to so with having videos to show the kids grandmothers and being able to talk face to face with a child who is away in school. I would like a fully working ICS but I bought the phone to use and I do. I personally appreciate both types of ROMS and their developers but at the end of the day there are things I need to do and the guys that are pumping out stable fully working ROMS have my gratitude the most.
