New SD card coming.g in the mail - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Ok, so finally accustommed to a galaxy s 4g after switching from a vibrant I got my rom installed, the cwm, the lighting zap and everything else. How ever my brother bought me a bigger microsd card for Christmas and its in the mail. Im just curious. Will I be able to put that SD card in and I'm good to go or do I have to reflash cwm or something?

You should copy all contents from your current SD card to the new one, in case settings and APPS are stored there."pretty sure they are"

What's the best way to format the new.card for use with the Roms were using.

If you're on a windows computer you can just go to my computer and right click your sd card, format and pick fat32.

So there's no ext4 formatting like for the system partition. What if you're on a Mac? Wouldn't you format as Unix file system or just ms-dos. This overwrites the ext4 partition on the card?

You could format it ext4 on Linux (not sure about MacOS but probably), however, the kernel in your phone must support ext4 - like you mentioned with the system partiton on voodoo kernels. You might have to go on and manually change the mount table on the phone so thay it mounts it ext4.vs. vfat/fat32.

I just got my 32GB cl 4.
I moved all contents from my old (including a backup of my EFS) to my external HD.... formatted it (using the phones storage settings).
Powered off my phone.
Put in my new microSD and rebooted... the necessary Android files show up automatically... I then moved all my important files over as a copy/paste from the external HD.
Rebooted... then went into recovery and made sure voodoo was enabled. It was... no issues.. running great.

EXT4 partition and making your sgs4g ext4 are 2 different things
the partition makes a ext4 partition in your sdcard so that your sdcard can be ext4 as well
the sgs4g ext4 converter makes the OS ext4
Is there a point to partitioning my sd card with ext4 now that my OS is ext4?
Im sorry . So one more question. Im I mistaken then to think the system cache and data would be on the sd card and not the phones internal storage

If formated it I dont know if thats the same thing
no its not the same thing. format it. then go to cwm. partition the sd card from the advanced menu with 2048/0. then put the files on it. then try again.

Formatting is not the same. Parition it to 2048. To do this get into cwm advanced>partition sd card>2048
Let it do it's thing then linda should convert for you.
Damn jager you type fast
Ok tried it now it says go to /tmp/recovery.log for more info
I thought that was made in windows when you formatted the card. If I didn't do that with my starter pack should I make a backup of my SD and then format card in cwm? All is working well with octane, but would this make it better?

[Q] File System question

I performed a Factory Reset / Wipe and was under the impression this cleared everything off the Xoom that I had added. Upon looking at the /mnt/sdcard folder I see folders of Apps that I had previously installed.
Question
Can the /mnt/sdcard be formatted ? If so how ?
Not super familiar with the whole file system setup so If this is a noob/stupid question could you please explain things for me.

There are two ways that I know of that I personally have done just in the last week or so. First you can unmount the SD card from the Xoom and place it in an Android Cell Phone, and go to settings/storage and from there unmount the card and click reformat SD card. Or you can hook the Xoom up via USB and clear it from within the PC/mac. Hope this helped.

Nope that would be for the micro USB card this is the /mint/sdcard which is part of the internal memory

Fastboot -w wipes all user data including /mnt/sdcard I lost some pictures of my dog because of it
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
The simplest way I know of is thru the Backup/Restore options in CWM, just doing the wipes won't do it. I use the Team Rogue version of CWM tho, i don't remember off hand if it can be done in the other recovery's (i.e. Rom Managers version or the one from solarnz that is most popular).
I just, personally, like the way the menus are laid out with Team Rogue's version and not having like a dozen No's with one Yes when confirming an action, nothing against the others.
Thanks guys I will try the Fastboot -w when at home and able to use it and Team Rogue's Recovery when at work.
Its been awhile but what is the option in Team Rogue recovery I dont see one to wipe the Internal data

Help! I am new to partitioning sdcard

Hello friends I am on rasheds cm10 and I want to partition my sdcard so how much of it we need to do
I have 16gb sdcard
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
I think it comes down to personal preference more than anything. I've got 2048 ext4(which some people might say is too much), 0 swap and the rest as fat32.
Also on a 16gig card.
I'm using link2sd and I know that A2sd, D2ext and Int2ext work but some scripts might not work with ext4 and the size of the ext partition might be limited.

Actually partitioning 1gb of memory is enough for our phones. And use swap if u want to have more ram. I personally perefer using ext4 as it is.the fastest out of the ext partitions.

Hi I have 1 gb for link2sd and i think that this amount is enought.
To partitioning I used mini partition tool, in this case I used ext3 because with ext4 I had a problem with another phone.
Also, keep in mind that the 1st partition should be formatted FAT32, the 2nd partition EXT, and the 3rd partition as SWAPFS (optional, only if you want to enable swap). Do not create the partitions in some other order.

Good question. Go through the normal partitioning process but set both Swap and Ext to 0mb, maybe?
EDIT: Seems Amon Ra will let you set things to 0mb.

Using minipartition tool, select partitions, delete them, later select all unallocated space created and create a new singular partition.

Just go into storage settings in normal mode and format the card, it will delete all partitions and make them as 1

With Junior Einstein method you can't delete a partition but you can only delete files that you can find in (and only) data partition.
And no, not in all partitions, this procedure delete files only in data partition, and yes, Junior Einstein method wipe the fat32 storage partition, allenwalker1998 said only data not the partition and this is correct; at the end the partiton is formatted, not deleted.
To remove/change a partition you have to use a specific tool that can be one like minipartition tool or something else.

If you use mini partition tool, you don't need to format your sd card to partitioning it. You have to use the command resize (for your actual fat32 partition) and later on created free spece use command create a new partition. I personally tested this and all my data are safe, this procedure will NOT erase your data but anyway you need a pc also to use minipartition tool and have a backup before any modification is a good idea.

Extend EXT2 partition without losing data

Hi guys,
I have a rooted HTC Wildfire S with a stock ROM and I have setup an 2nd partition formatted to EXT2, which I use for a really cool app called Link2SD.
Problem is I've underestimated an appropriate size for this 2nd partition and I'm come to the situation of having 10MB left. As I have a 32GB SD card I would like extend this partition, but without losing the data, is this possible?
I have ClockworkMOD as my recovery and this is what I used to initially partition the SD card. However, what I would like to know is if I will lose the data on both partitions of the card if I attempt to do this?
Much help appreciated,
Will

If you are on linux then your ext2 partition will be detected and you can see the contents inside it and backup it..
If on Windows there is a software called EXt2IFS something like that..
Install it.. It will be able to detect your ext partition.. Then you can backup..
Related to your extended partition thing..
Yes you have create partition again.. This will end up reformatting your card and partitioning again..
Thank you very much for your reply. I have another question. When I tried to backup my EXT2 partition in the past for something else using Linux, it said I needed root permission. I managed to gain root access by right clicking on the enclosing folder and selecting open as root user option. However, when I tried to restore the contents back to the SD card all my linked app files that LinkSD made weren't working. How do I get around this if I decide to use Linux again?, Though if I use the Windows program, will I be able to get root access at all?

Well buddy seriously to say i wouldn't recommend to restore that ext partition.. As you are saying you want to restore your config of Link2sd.. Well to say it will not work cz the system links get disturbed due to removal of partition or modify..
well best to say i would recommend to take a backup of your ROM then partition the card..
Well to say i would recommend to you first switch off your phone.. Put it in card reader then partition it..
Restore the backup then see if it works.. I think you are on stock rom..
You can try this method:
1. Make a backup of your current ROM Using the recovery..
2. Switch off the phone then put it in card reader.. Re partition your card using card reader..
3. Then restore the backup..
See if this works..

Cheers pal. I will let you know how it goes later on, because I'm not near a PC at the moment to copy the nandroid backup from CWM to my HDD. I'd rather be extra safe and make a backup of a backup as the re-partition will most likely wipe the whole SD card.
