[Q] How to upgrade I9020A from stock 2.3.4 to 4.04 ICS?

I am using the AT&T version of Nexus S, still on the stock Gingerbread 2.3.4. I am yet to receive any notification for an upgrade to ICS?
Where I can I download the ICS OTA file for i9020A as well steps to flash ICS?
you'll find in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445621
flash this first:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...1.signed-sojua-GRK39F-from-GRJ22.ce37d3b1.zip
(you'll get 2.3.6)
and then flash this:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespoa/IEzMw3FU.zip
(you'll finally get 4.0.4)
because in i9020A, there's no zip file to upgrade from 2.3.4 to 4.0.4
You should be fine flashing from 2.3.6 > 4.0.4 in stock recovery. It's only once you're on a 4.x version of Android you can't manually flash updates on stock recovery. So you couldn't manually update from 4.0.3 > 4.0.4 on stock recovery (but that'd be if you had the I9020T/I9023 version of the phone).
Let us know how you get on!
I'm in the same boat, and I've tried flashing 2.3.6 to 4.04 using CWM recovery, and I get a status 7 error. I've been advised to try doing
2.3.6 > 4.03, then
4.03 > 4.04.
Which files should I be using for each update? I'm using a stock unrooted I9020A.

there's no zip available for that, the only zip available is:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespoa/IEzMw3FU.zip
(2.3.6 > 4.0.4)
but if you can't flash it in CWM or stock recovery, it means, you should flash full ROM 4.0.4 package:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29064280/b309e4f81f42.unsigned-sojua-ota-299849.b309e4f8.zip
remember, you must do "wipe all" procedure before flashing above package...
Well done....
Thanks for the details....patch worked perfectly.
nexus s I9020A wont update from 2.3.4 to ICS
My nexus s (AT&T) still has 2.3.4 from when I bought new in August 2011. I have read all the forums I can find and have tried downloading the file updates on this forum and a couple other forums but none of them will even complete downloading. On the download page in browser settings all of them go immediately to failed everytime I hit retry download. I have waited and waited for any update to appear on my systems upda te screen with no luck since I bought it a year ago. Any guidance and help will be greatly appreciated.

fastboot flash a custom recovery then use that recovery to flash a stock 4.04 image
Why not update to JB? It's so much better.

Failed OTA upgrade from ICS 4.0.4 to Jellybean 4.1.1

I have a Nexus S that I bought new from Future Shop in Canada. I'm with Telus Mobility as my cellular service provider. When I bought the phone, it was running Gingerbread 2.3. I rooted the phone and flashed CyanogenMod 7 on it, but I had stability problems, so I flashed back to the official ICS image from the XDA forums. I've had no problems with the image, but just yesterday the Android 4.1.1 (Jellybean) System Update has shown up on my phone as being available for OTA update. When I clicked Restart & Install, the download ran fine, but when it restarted to do the install, it booted to the android and exclamation point. I had to do a battery pull to get it to boot, and then it just booted back to 4.0.4. I've tried the OTA updatemultiple times, but it still fails. Can anyone help me figure out why the OTA updateis not working?

I would do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29073020&postcount=1
Just make sure you are choosing the right stock for your phone i1920A I assume. Factory Images "sojua" for Nexus S (850MHz version, i9020a)
This should clear it up. Then get the 1 MB update. Then do this to get 4.1.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29067584&postcount=2817
Thanks. That's exactly the information I was looking for. It turns out the problem was Clockwork Mod Recovery v5.0.2.0. It seems to have been causing problems with the OTA update.

[HELP] UnRooted S5 Still Wont Update

I recently rooted my phone yesterday actually with towelroot by just flashing to the ncg kernel stock then rooting then back up to the NK2 kernel stock. My phone wont update to the new Lolipop update with root so i unrooted by simpily using the SU app and it claims my phone is unrooted but when i try to update the OTA it downloads and reboots my phone syas its ready to install then it says no changes were made cannot install update at this time or something like that.

can i update a rooted device?

my device is currently rooted and i just recieved an update from samsung. i am using a super kernel v1.4 and i would like to update to the lastest version which requires this update from samsung. can i update my device ota or must i download the firmware from sammobile and reflash everything then install everything else again. if i am able to update the phonr ota can i also just flash the new kernel to replace the old one? i want a clean install.
OTA won't work on a custom device (Rooted / Kernel / Recovery), I'm surprised you even got the notification for an update tbh
You'll have to update manually when the firmware arrives as a flashable ROM
