My wife just dropped her infuse and the screen completely cracked north to south.
Now, I must find a new screen (its just the glass that broke) and a guide on how to do it.
Where can I find the best price on this/these parts?
Where can I find a good step by step guide on this repair?
So I come to you, oh wonderful XDA infuse section, please help me get my wife to stop whining
I found these, which would I need?
Just the glass?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digitizer-T...615?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415fd83ae7
The whole digitizer?

Might be better off considering getting an Infuse off craigslist than getting a digitizer for ~180.
Buy a $300 phone over a $150 digitizer? That doesn't make much sense.

I think digitizer installation and everything comes to about ~180. And you can get an Infuse for like 250. You can sell yours for parts for about 150 or so, and maybe spend another 100 for a phone off craigslist.
Buddy of mine dropped his Samsung phone, wasn't an infuse, and managed to get it working with just the glass. Said after he put it together the touch was off for a few minutes but then it just started working right.

I've got no problem putting it together. I replaced iphone screens for most of my coworkers. I've just never done it with a samsung phone, hence instructions are needed.
I don't see the point in spending $150 more. Infuses are still going for the $300s on craigslist.
Selling yours for parts will get you about 150, add another 150 to that (the price you would spend on the digitizer plus glass kit) and get one off craigslist. You'll spend about the same amount, plus you won't have to deal with the hassle of the install.
I've heard that the glass it's bonded to the digitizer and therefore is a pain to swap the glass only... This phone is not as easy to work on as the iPhone...that's for sure.
Good luck

I may end up doing that. It depends on what the wife wants.

So I broke my screen a while back and was pricing them when I ran across this page on E-Bay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AT-T-Samsun...-Screen-Assembly-/230715379939#ht_3312wt_1163
Are these people insane?!?! How in the world could they even begin to think they could price it at that? Sad part is, there are 2 different stores on there with the same price, $694.99. I don't get it. Luckily I found one for $169.99 on another site, so no big deal. But still, that kind of price tag just pissed me off! Ok, my venting is done.
Wow that's an insane price! It better not have any lines or blobs. lol For that price, you could get a Galaxy Nexus. It makes me wonder what these people think when they set a price like that...

You can buy the whole dang phone on AT&T's website outright, no contract, with their no commitment pricing for only $549 ?!?!?!
Ebay is a scam and I've never found anything that went for less than what I could get it someplace else for. Search for the phone itself (on Ebay) and you can find it all day long for less than what these idiots are trying to sell replacement screens for, not to mention most site are selling this phone for mid $500's. The best thing to do is not buy from these people and put them out of business.
For what its worth, most of the time you can get this phone on Craigslist for $300 - $400...
So I contacted the company by chat to ask what the heck they were thinking. They replied back that when you see a price like that, it means they are out of stock, even though it says more than 10 available. Makes no business sense to me. "Hey, lets put a HUGE price on something we don't have, and then say we have 10!" Won't get any of my business. Why not just say "out of stock". Geez, what are people thinking these days?
Looking at their past sales history, it looks like they were selling the part for around $190, which is a lot more reasonable.
I guess the moral of the story is, if you're willing for pay $190 for just the screen why not just invest in the Mobile Insurance Plan... pay the $199 deductible and just get a new phone?
No way I would pay $199.00 deductible when you can get the screen for $169.00 elsewhere. Plus, it comes with the AT&T logo so for all they know my warranty will still be in tact. Ordering it tomorrow. The E-Bay price and circumstances just caught me way off guard.

You void your warranty once you take off the white security stickers that cover the screws you need to take off to replace the screen. The same stickers that turn either blue or red when they come in contact with water.

I have taken apart the device, and no such stickers need to be removed. I was a bit surprised as well. Yes, there is a litmus strip in there, but it does not need to be removed/tampered with. Unless you strip the screws during removal and or replacement, it would be almost impossible to tell anything had been touched.
Wow then I am surprised. They always cover the screws with stickers. Well on my blackberry there was always at least 2 covered. Well if thats the case then better for us.

Same thing with my old man Captivate too. (Galaxy S1) No stickers. Few screws and the thing popped right apart. Guess Samsung doesn't think too much about warranties in their final steps of build processes. Ohwell! Haha

Wow. QFT. Broken already? That's gotta be some kind of record.
Okay, in all seriousness, you do NOT want to swap the digitizer on your own. I used to do my own phone repairs; not anymore.
To do your own repair, you first need the right tools (drivers and such) but let's assume you have 100% of the tools you will need. You also need incredible dexterity and a propensity for light hands. Lastly, if you do finally get the displays swapped out (after a couple hours or so), you need to make sure you have the correct adhesive.
"What adhesive do I need?," you say? "Well, that depends." I have about 8 different electronics adhesives sitting on my workbench and I've never once been able to finish a repair without trying at least two different adhesives.
"What shall I do, deduction?!," you shout back. Worry not, friend! HTC is happy to do the repair for you! Chances are, your warranty on the phone is 100% in tact. (Unless you are hiding the secret S-OFF that the rest of us have been clamoring for - if that's the case, hand it over!) Simply call up HTC's US line for repairs or customer service and they will be happy to take your money in exchange for a top notch, warranty backed digitizer replacement.
Chances are, HTC's price will either be very close to the "street" price (i.e. one of those sketchy "we repair iphone!" cell-phone stores) or quite possibly below the cost of the part itself! I had this happen recently with a different manufacturer, Samsung. My Galaxy Note sustained a badly broken digitizer and the part itself was selling for ~$220 shipped. I just received the phone back from Sammy with a new digitizer costing me a total of $197 after S&H.
Anyway, YMMV and all that. I am curious to hear back what HTC quotes you for new glass - would you mind reporting back to us with a hard dollar amount?
Cheers and good luck!
Yea I replaced a LCD & digitizer on my old inspire. Not fun lol

Alright here's the deal. I was walking today and my phone slipped from my hands and onto the ground, thus cracking the screen. I bought the phone on July 25, which is 29 days from today. Tomorrow (August 24) will be the 30th day. Technically, I'm allowed to enroll in mobile insurance within 30 days of my purchase date, which will be tomorrow. I plan on going in the morning to enroll in insurance, and then request a new phone.
Any tips or pointers I need to insure that ATT follows through with allowing me the insurance and buying the replacement for $200?
Call them do not show them the phone and you can enroll anytime bit i think you gotta wait 30 days after enrollment in order to file a claim
After I enroll, I'll probably just go to the ATT store and see what they say. Because having a broken phone sucks, especially to this degree. I didn't see anywhere saying you had to wait 30 days, but who knows. If I show the phone, they won't let me enroll. I was having my dad (Whos the account holder) enroll me tomorrow morning before I go in.
Id just try to sell it for 250-300 then pay early termination fee to att and then open a new line and get the hox since now its price has dropped a lot. At least this eay u wont end up with a refurbished phone

Just look online for a replacement screen. Then youtube the replacement. I haven't looked at the steps my self but If were a betting man I would say a heat gun and a jeweler screwdriver would be all you need.

It is difficult to replace this phone's screen because it is attached to something. Iknow a guy he replaced the screen but ended up breaking the volume key
AT&T claimed it would be insurance fraud, so I had to call HTC and send it in to them. No idea how much that's gonna cost.

That's what I've heard, which is what ATT would've charged for the insurance claim
it almost makes sense to add a dummy line for $10 bucks a month and pick up a refurbed one for $20

True. Only problem is its my dad's line (I'm 19) And then we'd have to cancel a line.

Yes, everything works except for the fact that the glass is shattered and bits are falling out. I guess that means it might be cheaper since its just the outer glass, but I'd rather HTC charge a little more and fix it all right.
I'm glad I'll get MINE back, and that everything will be fixed correctly through HTC. Plus its not a super long trip from MO (My location) to Texas (HTC)

Until you get it replaced or whatever, cover the screen with a screen protector, or better yet, some clear packing take. Don't risk getting injured!
just dropped mine too, the screen was shattered. but I've had it for over 3 months. so who should I contact? At&t or HTC? I know that I'm probably in for an expensive repair already

If you bough insurance when you got the phone, ATT. They will charge you $200 for the deductible.
If not, go HTC. They will charge around $220 (From reports I've heard), basically the same as ATT. You could go somewhere local and get it fixed for cheaper probably.. But I'd rather have HTC do it professionally, cause they'll do it right.
Fix it yourself. If you have some skill its only costs you under $20 for glass panel and digitizer. If you aren't sure how to separate the glass panel from LCD. You can buy the whole screen includes LCD for $80 from ebay

You could do this. But. I've yet to hear of a single instance where self-repair was successful.
Mines cracked as well. I ordered a new screen. Seems like no one out there can confirm that a replacment for sceen only is workable. I'm affraid I've waisted 20 bucks.
I'm going to go ahead and order the LCD and try to just replace the glass first. I'll leave an update in this thread when I find out.
My N5 has a cracked screen (just the outer glass -- not the screen itself) and at my age I no longer have the eyesight, dexterity, or patience to do the repair myself. So I am looking at taking it to a repair shop and expect a sizable charge to replace the screen.
So if it's going to cost close to $200 for the repair, maybe I should just order a new one. Mine is a 32Gb, but I would be just as happy with a 16Gb model for $350 (I only got the 32Gb because that was what was still in stock on release day). I could then sell my cracked N5 to someone who could do the repair on the cheap and either have themselves a very nice phone or could resell it.
What could I get for a white 32Gb N5 with cracked front glass? $100? Maybe $150?
Searching around Ebay it looks like people are getting $150-180 for the 32GB model with a cracked screen. Just the screen seems to cost $130-$150, but I would take it to the repair shop and see what they would charge before making a decision.
What country are you in? Look for an LG repair store, they will do it for around $110 if I am not mistaking.

With the price of the Nexus 5, I think the cost of the repair is almost pointless...
Even if you don't quite break even with selling the broken one on eBay, you'll have a brand new device with a full warranty and one that wasn't dropped, opened and reassembled. I think you've made the right choice!

Yeah, I didn't realize that having a phone with a cracked screen is actually considered "cool" in some circles, so the ones going on eBay will probably not be repaired. This will work out OK for me and I'll end up with a new phone as you said.

Authorized and official Lg service center will charge you $150 or less for repairing it.Call Lg help desk once before you are making your decision.
I dropped my phone the other day and it kinda of spider webbed it just at the top and I was wondering does anyone on here repair the LCD isn't broken. Because everything still works underneath the cracks like I said it's not much but it's enough to get a new screen and I was wondering if the XDA family could help me out with some prices, just throw me some prices out there so I have an idea
I smashed my in a parking lot about a month after I got it. Had to get the whole screen replaced and it cost me in the neighborhood of $350... Just the glass was broken but I couldn't find anyone that could just replace the glass on this phone. It ended up being a s*** show with a replaced chasis and 3 weeks to get it back. I recommend using insurance if you can.
350 for a screen repair?!! At that point, you might as well save up another 50 bucks and go to swappa and buy one. The Edge on Swappa now goes for 410-440 for T Mobile. It's cheaper for other brands. AT&T can get below 400 bucks
It wasn't in Dec of last year... but remember it's not a repair, it was a replace and ended up being a nightmare... Shop around, that wad just my horror story
