[Q] Rollback 2.3.5 to 2.3.4 on i727R - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hey guys, I was wondering if there might be a way to roll back my version of Android 2.3.5 to 2.3.4 in order to take advantage of a jig to reset my counter.
I noticed a slight crackle the first day I had my Rogers S2 but it soon went away. Sound played fine and I could not reproduce it despite many tries so I thought nothing of it. I rooted a while back and the crackle sound is now appearing occasionally. There doesn't have to be sound playing through the speakers, it just happens. Sometimes it seems to happen when I touch the charge port at the bottom but it's not reliable.
Anyway, I figured it was time to send the phone back and reflashed to stock using Odin but now my counter reads 1. I had rooted though the one-click method originally so AFAIK it didn't effect the counter but the Odin flash did.
So...does anyone know if there are any old bootloaders available for a Rogers i727R or if there is a way to roll back Android to an earlier version that will allow a jig to reset the counter? If not, has anyone had success returning a phone to Rogers with a counter above 0?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been addressed..I have poured though the threads but couldn't find anything about rollbacks on Rogers i727R's...

Didnt the rogers skyrocket ship with android 2.3.5? If so then no u can not go to 2.3.4

yup, it did...
From what I've read, it seems I'm SOL in terms of resetting the counter. Just thought there may be a way to revert to an older version of Android.
I guess I could just try to send to back and see what happens. I've only had it for about a week and a half and the crackle issue started before I rooted..not that they'd care if I've already voided the warranty I guess...

[Q] Captivate... Isn't a Captivate Anymore?

After a month and a half of anticipation for FroYo, I was excited to find out a method of updating that wouldn't result in my warranty being voided. However, considering that I live in the US, the update wasn't available for me through Kies yet. So, with some digging around, I found a fairly straight-forward way of installing it anyway; I read it on several different news sites and I think I found it originating on this forum somewhere.
Then I realized that the method of doing this was for the i9000, and I have the Captivate i897. Still wanting to upgrade to FroYo, I quickly Google'd the method for use on other models. It seemed like it would work from what I read. So, I went through the steps; edited a few registry entries, clicked the 'update' button in Kies, and waited. Then, to my amazement, it worked: I saw my phone boot up with a newer splash screen. One minor problem so far: it said it was the i9000. I wasn't worried at this point, since I figured it wouldn't make a difference (and if I thought it would, there wasn't much I could do at this point anyway). But it did make a difference.
I was greeted with the familiar LauncherPro, as well as all of my apps. But, it was very laggy and was in landscape, even if my phone was in portrait. Playing around with rotations revealed problem one: the accelerometer was calibrated differently between the two models, showing a 90 degree difference. The lag was fixed with a Factory Reset in the Settings.
I then decided to browse around in the update. One, I had no more AT&T bloatware, and two, I got the free Samsung Apps, including Asphalt5. But, there were a few unwanted apps, too. For example, there was now an FM Radio app, even if the Captivate doesn't have one. That would be issue #2.
Anyway, considering that this was FroYo, I decided to see how well Flash actually worked by watching a Flash animation I found. It works fairly well, besides a few frame drops. Then, I decide to go back to the homescreen. Pressing 'Home' went back. Pressing 'Back' went back again. That is problem #3: the home button acts as a second back button, leaving me with a menu button, a search button, and two back buttons.
Between these issues, it is inconvenient to use the phone. Seeing this, I was wondering if I could 1.) Downgrade back to 2.1 Eclair (without rooting or anything) or 2.) Install the Captivate i897 variation of the Kies update once it's released in the US with even more Registry hacks. Thanks in advance!
[And sorry if this question has already been posted, but I didn't see it after a bit of searching]
Look for the odin one click in dev section(takes you to stock jf6). If you want to try froyo, cognition (for the captivate) its by designgears(he also did odin) it has a good faq(read it!) and great roms. I know it seems like a pain but go through the whole tread too.

This will take you back to a stock captivate if you want
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Also there is allot of info on how to run an i9000 rom on the captivate as well as a beta reorient i9000 kernel for froyo in the development forum here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=706
but take your time and make sure you know what you are doing with everything you try.

After about two hours of frustration, ODIN finally gave in and fixed my phone! ^_^ Thanks for your help.

Not sure why you didn't read the dozens of threads in regards to putting a i9000 rom on the captivate. You could have seen quickly that all the issues you have seen are well documented and most suggest hacks or different kernels to fix your issues.

I am trying to find out where you heard this And what you are talking about.
Unless the update comes over the air; or Samsung makes an official announcement that says "update your captivate via Kies" or "update your captivate via odin"; then no method you read about will be official or save your warranty.
Any flashing of your phone - that is not directed by Samsung or AT&T will void your warranty. Unless you put it all back undetected.
i still love my cappy

Samsung had a press release about a Kies update, but only for certain parts of the world at this point. However, there was some Regedit trick that forced it to download the i9000 firmware regardless of location. The firmware didn't work very well, so I used ODIN One-Click, then flashed Cognition instead.
So, my warranty is now dead.

just flash back to jf6 or jf7 if you have issues. hopefully the official version will be out before you need to use the warranty. believe me as long as it looks legit at a glance the repair centers dont care if it is an odin flash or official update via ota or kies. they just replace parts, reflash and move on to the next one.

[Q] Noob question regarding to odin and clockwork

Hi,
I am very new to android and Samsung captivate. I am thinking of installing froyo on it.
I was reading that with Odin and Clockwork, this can restore your phone to original factory state after you have rooted or do anything crazy with the phone.
My question is, with this factory state restoration through these programs, does this also "unvoid" the phone warranty? Is this method untraceable to ATT or samsung?
Good question, I'm curious about that as well. Anyone know if odin leaves a trace that AT&T can track?
Is there anyone who knows about this? I want to install the custom rom, but I want to make sure about everything first.
In my admittedly general experience, AT&T doesn't do a lot of RMA snooping beyond trying to start it up. I wouldn't take that as gospel, but I've returned two (dumb) phones to AT&T, and all they did was try to start it up, take a new phone out of a new box and do a direct swap.
I am not sure what happens when you send them in, but I have returned two Captivates back to the AT&T store. One for reception problems and the other for the random shutdown issue. Both were flashed...then reflashed with Odin and there was no issue with the return. If it has to be sent in, there may be more thorough methods they use. But in store it's start it up, they looked through a few menus, but that was about it.

[Q] Has anyone returned/exchanged a Skyrocket at ATT with custom flash counter?

I'm just wondering has anybody returned/exchanged a Skyrocket to AT&T with a custom flash counter YES?
I'm having issues with my GPS locking in place and I think my phone might be defective. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until i flashed a few custom ROMs. And since the USB jig doesn't clear the flash counter anymore... i'm not sure what to do.
I'm thinking of just calling AT&T and telling them my GPS is having issues, but i'm just curious if they are going to check the flash counter and void my warranty claim.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Well I did technically speaking but it was hard brick so it didn't matter at all. haha

Do you know what hard brick means? And yes they never asked me a signal question.

Yup, means that it was totally hosed.
I guess the AT&T reps don't really look into the phone too much, they just send it back to Sammy? Well that's promising, i'll be sending mine back then.
Did you go into the store or just have them mail a new one?
Corporate location aka in store.

As a former AT&T employee, they honestly don't give a ****, and aren't knowledgeable enough to know what to look for really. If it looks stock, witht he stock boot animation and no SuperUser icon, you're competely fine.
98% of the employees (+/- 5% for pulling that number our of my ass) have no knownledge af the devices outside of what AT&T trains them, and even then it's not much. Last year when the Inspire and Atrix came out, I had to stop my coworkers from telling people they were LTE phones, and even after that they were telling them it was "LTE upgradable as soon as LTE comes to the area" due to sheer ignorance. They just don't give a ****.
I have returned 2 phones with CWM installed. I have also returned 1 skyrocket with stock but the flash counter showed multiple flashes. No issues.

I walked into the store where I purchased mine just this afternoon and swapped it because it has been having all kinds of issues that I was tired of dealing with.
1) Battery life was poor
2) wifi reception was poor
3) battery indicator stuck at 100% until it would drop drastically later, once it even stayed at 100% until it dropped to "your battery is severely drained, shutting down"
After the young lady did the factory wipe/reset she noticed it was running ICS and lectured me that she could get in trouble, but then let me leave with the new phone.

How is it running ICS?
We don't have any ICS roms...
And the best way to return a device with a counter...
Smash it first.
He meant a rom called Ice cream Sandwich. And smashing phone before return is not the best way. You guys need to get older and just use usb jig. If you don't have than Odin it back to stock. this way it will be fine.

The USB jig doesn't reset the counter on this phone, it only helps get the device into download mode.. I flashed Odin with stock TAR and it still says custom
I spoke with the AT&T returns folks yesterday because I'm within the 30 day window and my battery life was sucking. I asked the guy if there would be any issues with the return since I rooted the phone (I "rooted to test ways to improve the battery life" )
He said no, no problem with it being rooted. For the record, I flashed this Rom and my battery life has improved drastically so far

[Q] Anyone experience earpiece issue?

On my skyrocket from AT&T I was having an issue with the battery indicator getting stuck at 100%.
I updated the phone to the latest OTA update, no root or anything on this phone, all completely stock.
After update phone info is as follows:
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I727UCLA3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.11
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCLA3
After I did the update the battery indicator has not come back (awesome right?, not so fast.)
Now I have an issue with call quality, my best attempt at describing it is like the ear piece sounds blown out, it kind of has a vibrate when people talk, Its not just one persons phone either, its any call I get/place.
I'm not sure if I should try a factory reset, revert back to 2.3.5?, Go to AT&T for a new one.
If anyone has had this issue and knows how to fix it please post. I apologize ahead of time if this is already posted somewhere, I looked for a few hours on google and couldn't find it anywhere. Also even if you don't know how to fix it, could you please post if your having the same issue so I know I'm not alone and have some ammo if I do have to go to AT&T.
Visit AT&T Store
Of course I'm 4 days outside my 30 day trial period so I would have to get a replacement mailed to me if I can't get it to work.
Lady I spoke with there was very nice (as always) but didn't have any idea what to do (as always) and advised I try and factory reset it. What the hell, mine as well.
Also got her to tell me that if I root and custom rom it and it still dosn't work I can still RMA it. So she went against what all their documentation says so now I can do what I want
Figure ill factory reset first, if that dosn't work I'll ODIN it back to the original 2.3.5 if possible.
Ill keep updating this thread though incase anyone else has a similar issue.

Haha, just because she said that doesn't mean anything. Read the contract, that trumps what some lady says. Anyways, you can flash back to stock and warranty it, so it doesn't matter what anyone says

As the title says you absolutely correct. Lady probably didn't have a clue lol.
I called their warranty support line and am going to drive to their wallingford exchange place.
I was talking with my father before I called and figured if I went in and said get a manager, and told him/her if I don't have a new phone in my hand in 10 minutes, your losing a customer in 10 minutes, I bet I would get my phone
Regardless I'm getting a replacement, I did try the factory reset, didn't work. Also tried downgrading the device to 2.3.5 stock, and this also did not work.
Think its hardware, the static is only on the ear piece. Speaker phone, head phones, and bluetooth do not have the issue so I think its a odd coincidence
To anyone that may have been checking on this, it seems I got a rare case, there was actually a hardware problem on my device. Just a coincidence that I noticed it right after an update, I took it to the Customer Service place AT&T has in Wallingford, CT and the lady tried to re-flash the phone (what she said was standard procedure, she HAS to with every issue.) This didn't work so she gave me a new one.
All in all, only bad part of the experience was that it happened at all. New phone is working great.
Glad tohear that you got this taken care of.

[Q] Black Screen..only a quick question about warranty

Hello Everyone,
I had a quick question about my verizon galaxy s3 warranty. This Saturday, my phone screen went completely pitch black while i was at my friend house. Everything else works except for the visual; I can also unlock it and open apps6/9*-. I took out the battery and put it back in, it never came back on but i can still get calls and text messages; all the good stuff lol. In case someone ask, I was on Jelly Beans rom build 18 with stock kernal.
Here is my main question, can i return this phone back and get the warranty for my phone? This is what i have done so far to hopefully get the warranty. I was able to flash it back to stock without any problems. The flash counter, its pretty dang high lol..i think around the 100s lol. Since they can't see the counter, will it pass? Do they have other means to see the flash counter before I go over there?
I really do not know what happened. I had downloaded Twitch to my phone and while watching League of Legends. All corners started going out until it reached the center. Like an old TV from the 70s or 80s.
Also, this has happened before. I flashed back to stock and it came back on but this time it decided to stay off.
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if my words are a bit out of place. I wanted to type something real quick before logging off and getting back to work.
Thanks in advance
I believe Odin has an option to reset flash counter. There is an app that does it but since u can't see your screen that won't help
