I have the wrong baseband version on my nexus s and now I don't have 3G anymore. I tried to go back to stock rom but it won't let me. Is there a way to go back to the original baseband sttings because I am now on I9020A instead of I9023. When I tries to flash the stpck rom it didn't go past the verifications becaise it thinks that this is a I9020A instead of a i9023.
i think we have the same problem.
in bootloader i see
BOOTLOADER VERSION - I9020XXKL1
BASEBAND - I9020XXKI1
my nexus is i9023 not i9020! how can i change it?
Don't bother. It's normal. Both the phones have the same baseband.

Yep, it was stated the same on GB. I presume they change it to 9023 in Settings/About phone just to avoid confusion.
Same problem over here.
Anyone knows a solution??

I went through the same problem not more than a week ago. The problem is your using stock recovery. So just flash a custom recovery like cwm and then flash a stock rom. Then install a custom rom right after. You will loose cwm again after this because you just flashed a stock rom so just download rom manager and flash cwm with it. All the best mate.

I already have cwm installed but when i try to install a stock 2.3.6 rom the installation is abborted; status 7. Also if I try to install 2.3.3 or 4.0.3 it gives me that error
Do you have the latest version of cwm?
The baseband XXKI1 is fine for I9023 regardless if it says I9020 or not, I9023 and I9020T are the same.
I9020A needs a different radio.
I have the latest cwm 5.0.2.0 but I have baseband I9020AUCKF1. I hate being on gprs
You have the wrong radio.
You said your phone is a I9023 so you need XXKF1 or XXKI1
Flash it through cwm
Do you have a link of the radios? I don't want to brick my phone again :S
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Everything you need is here!
Look through the android development forum for the new radio XXKI1 but the XXKF1 radio in the link I gave you will do fine!
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396532
This is for the XXKI1 radio.
I recommend you uprooted your phone, find stock i9020a rom and then installing it... Then you can root it again or something...

Do NOT do this.
The phone is an I9023.
Try flash the radios and see if that works, it may just be a corrupted file PR something, reflash and see how that goes.
Then IF that doesn't work try flash gb stock rom for I9023, 2.3.6 grk39f PR something like that bit try the radio first.

hey all,
I finally got my self a Nexus S, but still have my Nexus One(that I still love) and I have a couple of questions that Im hopping you guys can point me in the right direction.
I have spent most of yesterday looking for threads on this and unable to get what im looking for.
1). Were do i find an updated Radio for the Nexus S
2). Looking for a rooted 2.3.3 update
the reason I have asked is because on the N1 thread there is a simple step by step guide to update the Radio, Hboot and 2.3.3 rooted updated, and was easy to do.
please help.
thanks & sorry if there is a thread that i missed
Here is a link to the thread with updated radio from CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975105
tried both and they say installing and then bad
Check to see if the baseband was updated in about phone. Also make sure you are using Install Zip from SD Card and navigating to the file, also check the md5 to make sure it downloaded correctly.

I didn't know about that. I flashed the kb1 radio.img through fastboot on CM7 RC1 with netarchy 1.2.4 (not 2.3.3 compatible). I flashed the kb3 radio from the thread I linked and it updated fine.
oK how do i update to 2.3.3 rooted
1. Make sure you phone is rooted
2. Download a comptable kernel for 2.3.3
3. Flash the new kernal using recovery ( when phone is off hold volume up key and power key together)
4. Download 2.3.3 rooted rom from the development thread.
5. Flash the rom from recovery.

Ok so i really want the new baseband on my g2x, i was waiting to see if a flashable would come out but so far nothing
i would like to know if these are the steps to get the baseband and root
1.Go back to stock
2.Get stock recovery
3.Download LG update tool (which i think is found here , http://www.lg.com/uk/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp)
4.Let it do its thing
5.When its done flash cwm
6.Flash a rom with root
And done? and i would like to know if that baseband can be used on 2.2.2
Watch and follow this video to get you back to stock.
http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/23/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2x/
Then run the update.
Then NVFlash
Then rooted rom by Xboarder.
Then do whatever you want.
do i have to re root after i flash the rom

Go to the dev section and downloaded xboarders rooted rom that includes the update and root. It is a zip that can be installed the normal way after you NVFlash.

I nandroided to stock, unrooted, flashed stock recovery, updated to 2.3.3, using the horrible lg update tool. Then nandroided back to my to cm7 w/ Jul 15th baseband. All is well. Gps is fast as hell, locked in 10 seconds indoors to 4 meters.
Side note: i f#@ing hate the lg updater tool;( 45min of upluging and repluging my phone to get it to take the update. Horrible, i rather use odin.

After returning to stock, you run the LG update then you will have the new baseband. Then NVFlash. Then load the rooted rom.
Then you have new baseband and a rooted rom.
I manually updated my dad's phone to ics with the ota file. He has the tmobile version and it's not rooted or anything. So i booted into recovery and installed the ota file. It installed just fine but now he has no service at all. We placed the sim card in another phone and it works just fine so its the phone itself. When we go into the network operators menu it gives us this "error while searching for network"

Try the stock OTA. It usually comes with an associated radio.img for your phone model.

actually i had same problem yesterday.followed the stock rom advice and it worked properly.
as long as i have rom manager.4.8.3 i did a rom backup before installing ics update.
i lost the service in ics and then tried to restore the rom 2.3.6, same "error while searching for network".
all i did now is flashing again cwm 5.0.2. i downloaded nexus s stock rom 2.3.3 from rom manager too.
i flashed the rom and everything went back to normal.
thanks for the advice.
Last night (27-3-2012) I had a notification pop up on my stock 4.0.3 (rooted with AIR kernel) Nexus S. It was a notification for an OTA 4.0.4 update. I downloaded it (it was about 17.5 megs) and when I tried to update it, it gave an error saying the package couldn't be verified (or something to that effect). I tried searching the SDcard and system folders for the update but couldn't find one. I tried to go to settings and recheck for update but nothing comes up. My wife has the same phone (a Nexus S) and she didn't get a notification and nothing pops up when I do a check for update. I'd love to find the update file and upload it for you guys but I just can't find the bugger. Anyone have an idea where to look? It was late and I didn't take any screen caps cuz I though Google was finally rolling out ICS 4.0.4 but I can't find anything online about this latest update. Any ideas?
EDIT: This is for GSM Nexus S's, NOT Nexus S 4G. My wife and I each have a GSM Nexus S with T-Mobile.
EDIT 2: See Meisze's post for the link. I'll flash it as soon as it downloads and I'll post some info.
EDIT 2.5: I tried to update but got Status Error 7. I'm going to flash the full 4.0.3 update, then the lite 4.0.4 update and that should work.
EDIT 2.5.5: ok, I get Status Error 7 when i try to flash the full stock 4.0.3 update. I'm going to flash 2.3.6 -> 4.0.3 -> 4.0.4 and see if that works.
EDIT 3: WARNING YOU CAN BRICK YOU'RE PHONE! I bricked mine in the process and just got it working again. I was trying to flash the 4.0.4 lite update and it kept saying Status Error 7. So I restore a backup of the phone from 2.3.6. Without rebooting I then flashed the full 4.0.3 update (ot error 7) and then the lite 4.0.4 (again, no error 7). I reboot and nothing... No Google/lock logo, no recovery, no fastboot nothing. I used Adams tool and get into fastboot. I tried flashing CWM recovery and still nothing.
I fixed it by doing this.
1. Used Adam's toll to get into fastboot. Adam's UnBrickable Resurrector program for Linux http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397393 I used Backtrack 5 (Based on Ubuntu)
2. ran fastboot boot recovery.img (Flashed latest CWM touch recovery 5.8.0.2, renamed to recovery.img)
3. In CWM ran the stock 2.3.6 full update
4. Rebooted and everything was back to normal.
5. Went back into CWM, Flashed stock 4.0.3 full
6. Rebooted, everything still fine...
7. Went back to CWM flashed stock 4.0.4 lite
8. Rebooted and everything is working great.
Funny you mention it because I saw this today...
http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-xoom-wifi-receiving-android-404-update
I found it from miui China : http://www.miui.com/thread-504894-1-1.html
Niiiice!
I flashed it.It is booted now.
To flash it you have to be on 4.0.3. stock unrooted
it is android 4.0.4 IMM76D
baseband I9023XXKI1
kernel 3.0.8-g6656123
so it has a new kernel
browser now works as it should have worked in 4.0.3 now it is fast smooth and no white pages.
Recovery works

Not necessarily. The link posted here is only for an upgrade from 4.0.3. No one has posted a link from 2.3.6 so it is possible they are pushing only the upgrade for now. These rollouts take time so you aren't guaranteed a notification until it is fully rolled out.

Writes bootloader and radio only. Then I get file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory

Had to first install the complete 2.3.6, and then the complete 4.0.3, and now the 4.0.4 patch goes through without errors.
I have an LG P500 from a friend who upgraded, and it has the V10 baseband.
In order to install the ROM I want, I'll have to upgrade the baseband and install a custom recovery.
If I need to return to my previous setup, how to I return to the original baseband and recovery?
The phone itself is not under warranty, so the recovery image probably does not matter much, but does the baseband matter?
I mean, if I install a V10 baseband from a different country and use the original ROM, should I expect problems?

Custom recovery like CWM is a must but No need to switch basebands, there are baseband fixes available which you need to flash after flashing ROM.

Thanks for the reply, but according to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530&page=43
the fix does not work for JB and doesn't work with some of the recovery images, which may be recommended for the ROMs I want to install.

CWM 5.0.2.0 is most stable and recommended for P500, all ROMs and BBfix patches are compatible with this version. I've using it for more than a year now and never faced any issue.

Have you used this ROM? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833218
This one specifically suggests using CWM 5.0.2.7 (although it may be that the newer CWM is more stable on the new baseband)
I have searched the forums some more and found this site: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/
You need to remove the :9002 from the URL you get at the end, and it should download the original ROM for your location/provider.
I am still interested in an answer to my original questions.
