My external speaker is on its way out I guess from overusage. you have to hit the phone to make it work again.
Does anyone here fix this and how much
I have the same problem , can't help you on the repair but I don't have don't hit the phone....I can just apply some pressure on the speaker itself to get it to come on.

same thing happens to mine, i have to tap it to get it to work, but that only works sometimes. and even though its under warranty, I cant return it because i have a little ding in one corner.
I followed the instructions from the link found in post #3 and the speaker hasn't cut out anymore. Although it appears a bit daunting at first to be pulling the phone apart, it really wasn't too bad. It was well worth the effort to get rid of such an annoying issue....thanks for the post.

For some reason, my i-mate JasJar refuses to work in vibrator mode. I rarely use it, and am not sure when it stopped working.
A couple of days back I put it in vibrator mode and later noticed that there were quite a few missed calls/messages.
Any ideas on this anyone.

I assume you have tried to test whether it is a specific problem by going to "notifications" under "settings" and chosen "vibrate", then pressed the play icon and it didn't work.
In this case I'd make a backup and look what happens after a hard reset. If it never worked for you with this rom, flash an original one.
If the problem still is there by now, it most certainly is a hardwareerror. So open the unit and remove the vibrator. Be careful with its plug and use a tool or your fingernails as a tool, if they're long enough.
If you haven't a tweezer and short fingernails, ask your GF to do it or try if can come on to girls with asking them to help you with this
Anyway, once out measure the resistance of the vibrator. It should be within a reasonable range, meaning not about zero and not above some, hmm, perhabs dozens, Ohms.
I don't know if this thing gets connected to full battery voltage, but testing it with something about 3V should not harm it, if you don't have something to measure resistance. If it doesn't move, meaning vibrate, you have the reason why it doesn't work.
If you want to be sure you now measure whether it gets juice or not if your phone should vibrate. I don't know what the chances are, but it is possible that the circuit that enables it got damaged.
If the vibrator seems to be fine you should do this anyway.
What's up if the vibrator's working and full battery voltage is on it's connectors when the phone should try vibrate I do not know. But the chances of the problem being easy to fix are then gone to about zero
In this case I'd make a backup and look what happens after a hard reset. If it never worked for you with this rom, flash an original one. - Did this, without any luck.

Be careful with its plug and use a tool or your fingernails as a tool, if they're long enough. - It sounds easy enough - but could you help me here? - open the unit - i have never gone beyond replacing batteries so how do i know what to look for?
Thanks in advance

Well, there isn't a button to press that will just open the case for you, but if you're not cursed to have more thumbs than fingers you should be able to do it.
You just need the proper torx screw driver and something to unlock the plastic hooks that keep the phone closed after the screws are gone. I used a cut out part of the blister package from my SDHC card, a good friend of mine always uses old credit and membership cards. Just be sure to use something made out of soft material that won't bend too easily when lateral force is put on it. If you use something made out of metal you will most certainly leave scratches.
If you don't really know what I'm talking about, go to the Wiki page, found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
There is a section "Hacks and Tweaks", in which is a link to the service manual. Get that and read through the pictured manual to disassemble te device. Now take a look at your phone and the narrow gap between the parts of the housing and you will know why I brabbled so much about that. And also the size of the torx screw driver you'll need.
In service manual everything is described step by step, with lots of photos. You have to know for yourself if you're gonna do that or leave it to someone else. It looks more horrifying than it actually is, the quality of the housing material is good and what you wanna do is relativly easy but if something should happen you are hereby told that nobody else can be held responsible.
Since I don't know you, I can't really recommend you to do or leave it, but it's really not a big deal and the bucks some guy at a shop will charge you for less than five minutes of easy work are better off to be donated to your favorite rom cook
don't vibrate
I had this problem when I opened my 64 mb uni and I managed to make it work again. It took many tries to get it work again.I think the way you put it in his "socket" let it vibrate or not...
Now it's the same problem with my 128 Mb uni which came back from retronix (upgrading ram) with vibrator "HS".I opened it and didn't manage to make it work again, i'll try later but i'm sure it's not faulty, just the way they put it back.
EvilJogga is right, service manual is usefull, I was afraid to open my uni's, now i do it with "eyes closed".
Sorry for my bad english, good luck !

I had the same problem with Radio ROMs 1.17 and 1.18 - changing it back to 1.15 returned the vibration.
Hi all
I swear this is some voodoo stuff going on with my phone. I replaced the lcd by myself about half a year ago and it was working fine until last week, but I assume this has something to do with it.
Thing is, the screen freezes whenever I'm not pressing its bottom down. Like I can get it running and do whatever I want while squeezing the bottom of the screen (just below the softkeys) and the back of the phone together but as soon as I let go, the screen freezes and I have to take the battery out. Don't ask how I figured it out. The softkeys still vibrate when I press them but I have no idea if the phone is still running fine or if it's actually the system which freezes. The former would make more sense to me though.
I also had the touchscreen issue which I didn't ever get around but I don't think it has anything to do with this.
I have opened that sucker up and taken a gander, I assume some connector is loose or something is grounded poorly but I couldn't see anything. I appreciate any kind of help.
Thank you.
Try to remove the LCD and fix it againg with proper guidance

Yeah well, the lcd has only one connector and it is properly attached. Could anything else go wrong with it? I will fix it again if I know it could help somehow but it was a real pain and I don't want to screw anything without a reason.
And that is the same link as in my post but thanks anyway. I was just mentioning it in case it could be related, I don't really care about it any longer.

A while ago I started having issues with my phone where the screen would seem to go off while I was using it. When I say go off, not as in the lock type of way because you can still do what you were doing but you can't see it. This is going to sound weird but sometimes I have to literally squeeze my phone or hit the side of it for the screen to cut back on and not it's just got to the point where it doesn't stay on at all. I know the phone is old and all but now I just use it for app and music purposes but I like to use it. No I've never drop my phone in water or something and no I didn't really drop my phone much or hard atleast since if it fell, it fell on carpet. I have all the tools and stuff so I can open it up if any help is able to be given. Sorry if I post this in the wrong section so this is my first post.

Alright. so once if I buy this and fix it, my screen would be working back to normal ? Thanks for the reply tho
Hello,
So last week I woke up and my power button stopped working. I looked around for similar issues and found quite a few stores selling a power flex cable (I attached a picture of it because I am a new member and cannot post the URL for the site, but it's easily found using google)
Since it was only six dollars, I ordered it without much thought. Just looking at the cable, it looks like it would fit into a connector rather than needing soldered onto a board, so I figured it would be pretty simple.I finally received it, and after looking around at a bunch of teardowns and the service manual, I do not see this cable or connection anywhere I was going to just open it up and check it out, but didn't want to risk not being able to turn the phone back on.
I am looking for advice! Specifically, if there is a way to power the phone back up without having to use the actual power button, I'd love to know.
FWIW, my phone is not rooted and factory stock
Thank you!
Bumping because I would really like to get this fixed! Not sure if this may go over better (or would be appropriate) on the i9300 forum.
Any help would be awesome!
Back up your phone in the way you see fit. Try and fix button. If you fix it yer done. If not buy a jig. The jig will get you into odin mode. Plug phone into computer. In odin make sure that auto reboot is checked. Flash something like a recovery. Once it finishes flashing it will auto reboot. Enjoy.
Use the home button to wake and a gesture gesture app to put a custom action to turn the screen off. Or put a screen off action on your home screen. Wherever you want

That part has to be mislabeled. I just took my phone apart and there is no way that part will fit. Observe:

Ugh, that is what I thought and was afraid of. I have no idea why in the world they are even available, lol.
I'll buy a jig just in case the phone somehow turns off and I am SOL.
Anyways, I appreciate everyone's input! TY
Alright so here's the deal. I had an incident with some liquid. The phone worked for months after that. Then weird things began to happen. First the mircophone went out. Then, after I tried to clean the mic, the screen went blank and I couldn't get anything to show up. After doing some looking around, I found out that the daughterboard at the bottom routes the screen and has the mic on it. SO, I replaced the daughterboard. And now I can get the screen to come on, well, sometimes. And the digitizer is just as touch and go. Occasionally it decides to work, and most of the time it doesn't. So I guess what all this comes down to is, does this sound like a screen & digitizer issue, or is the motherboard (and thus the whole phone) shot?
ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!
Your phone is fried
As soon as I hear phone problem and water in the same post, my advice is usually the same. Move on. ?
Unfortunately with water, it can get time consuming and costly.... You fix one thing, only to find something else doesn't work.... And so on and so on. Water is evil, and in most cases, lethal.
You've seen replacing one part has only partly helped. To me, if a phone gets wet and serious issues follow. Save your time and money for a replacement.
Sorry for the bleak outlook... But fixing water damage is a rough process usually.
Good luck in whatever direction you go! ?
Thanks for the input. I've unfortunately already purchased a G2 to replace it. I've tried, but it's not worth the time and money. Loved my Nexus 5 and I'm sad to see it go.
