[Q] HTC Hero (Sprint) Screen Problem - General Questions and Answers

A while ago I started having issues with my phone where the screen would seem to go off while I was using it. When I say go off, not as in the lock type of way because you can still do what you were doing but you can't see it. This is going to sound weird but sometimes I have to literally squeeze my phone or hit the side of it for the screen to cut back on and not it's just got to the point where it doesn't stay on at all. I know the phone is old and all but now I just use it for app and music purposes but I like to use it. No I've never drop my phone in water or something and no I didn't really drop my phone much or hard atleast since if it fell, it fell on carpet. I have all the tools and stuff so I can open it up if any help is able to be given. Sorry if I post this in the wrong section so this is my first post.

Without looking at it is seems that you LCD screen is on its death bed. You need to get something like this.

well hopefully this is the right place to ask this. to the point...
recently my daughter got a hold of my phone and decided to drop it in the bathtub.
after taking it apart and letting it dry out the best i could i tried to turn it back on.
at first i got to the lockscreen at which point it was completely unresponsive.
however now i can get it to respond to the unlocking and passcode and it seems fine...except to see the screen i have to look at it under the right lighting and just the right angle.
any possible solution to this problem? im hoping the phone can still be saved. thanks in advance

have you tried putting it in dry rice for while so it can completely dry up?
You're probably going to have to replace the LCD itself then. Much cheaper than buying a new phone.

Phone screen won't come on!

I'm not sure if it's lag or what, but my phone screen won't come on. I think it's a ribbon that was disconnected or something though. For about a few hours if I were to press power to see the lock screen, all I saw where a bunch of rainbow static. Then I powered my phone on and off because nothing would work and now it's jut black! Does anyone know what's wrong? I can't boot into clockwork so I don't think it's a rom problem. Does anyone know the problem or have any idea to fix? Anyone I should ask specifically?
maybe water? even having my phone in the bathroom while i take a shower cause me that
It's not water, I never bring my phone close to place with water :/
can you boot into the screen where there are 3 droids with the skateboards? (i not sure whats the name)
I think I can boot and my phone still works, because it still rings when someone calls and it still vibrates when someone text it, but I just can't pick up or reply (because the screen won't come on). I should be able to boot into that thing, but I can't anything :/
well bro sorry i cant help you :/ maybe it could be the screen, the ribons or somethings loose. did it fell?

Seems like either broken ribbon that connects the screen to the "motherboard', or dead screen itself. That's exactly how 1 of my phones died (it was too complicated to disassemble and fix it myself)
But once I had similar problem with my TP2, the screen first become unresponsive to any touch, and then it went just black after restart (and every next restart). However all keys did work.
Hard reset somewhat helped, the screen actually came back, but it was still stuck on setting up Windows Mobile (if you know WinMo: the part where you calibrate touchscreen), apparently "touch" part of the screen didn't work.
I thought it is ribbon or screen assembly, but since all the keys worked I flashed another ROM and what do you know: all problems went away. It worked fine for as long as I had it. I never figured out what caused it/was the problem.

Yea I think that's the problem here. I think I'm just going to borrow a friends mt4gs to use and navigate recovery and do a back up and just buy a new one and restore. Thanks for all the help guys

[Q] Trying to control Android phone from browser, BIG problem.

Few days ago, my phone got screwed by water.
I have a Droid Incredible, rooted with the latest CM9 and has TSF Shell on it as the launcher.
Anyways, the LCD Display does not work anymore. I know the digitizer works, because I can unlock my phone. I have memorized a little on my phone. Now, I can turn up and down the speakers, lock it again, answer or decline phone calls, that's a good thing. This morning my LCD display worked but now it does not. There is some kind of backlight however hence the bottom 4 touch buttons still work to get to home, back, menu, and search.
Now this is what I want to do, considering money is tight, and I'm not getting another phone until late next month.
I want to install AirDroid on my phone, and set it up to work with my browsers, whether on my laptop, tablet, or ipod, so I can remotely control and view it.
That's the problem.
Issue one: I have no clue how to install applications DIRECTLY, to the Sd Card itself. I can put the apk on there but with no sights of how to do this, I'm a bit lost. I have however remembered where the install button is when I want to install a third party application.
Issue two: If I can get past Issue one, my second issue is on HOW, I would set it up. I would probably need to install it on my mother phone and track movements, since she has the same phone as I. I'm not sure however how well that would work.
Some extra information, I dropped my phone into a 12 foot pool and had to dive down to get it. It survived, as I put it in dry rice for exactly about 40 hours. Everything was waterlogged. The camera has water trapped inside, the battery compartment dripped and dripped, the display had water literally inside of it, which took the longest to dry out. I took my phone apart thinking it may be a loose connection of some sort but I made sure it wasn't, and it's still not working great.
Sometimes, I can catch the Droid Incredible boot flash for a couple seconds and that's it. There was obvious signs oh screen damage this morning as I was using it and there were a few digital lines horizontally on the screen.
My question is, how would I be able to do this? It's possible I'm sure, I just don't know how it would work.

Phone Wiped Itself in my Pocket!

This was extremely frustrating...
I was at Disneyland last weekend, enjoying myself on the rides. My phone was in my pocket, with the screen facing my leg as usual.
After getting off a ride and walking to meet some friends, I pull out my phone only to find it on the 'Welcome to Android' screen....
... what the f*#$...
My guess is that sometime between the last ride and walking to the bathroom, my phone's screen turned on, then my leg proceeded to 'attempt' the pattern unlock 10 times, resulting in a wiped device.
If you haven't tried this before let me warn you, it takes EVERYTHING with it. Even wiped my 128GB SD card!
Luckily, my photos up to the night before were backed up to Dropbox and I didn't really have anything else on the phone yet (I only got it 2 weeks ago), but DAMN!
Correct me if I'm wrong but the only way to disable the '10 tries and it wipes' is by rooting and installing a custom ROM? I honestly only put the lock in place because the phone kept unlocking itself in my pocket and doing all sorts of crazy things.
I really don't want to put it in a case with a screen cover and putting in with the screen facing out is uncomfortable and dangerous.
So ridiculous I really have no words... Of course HTC's twitter support team ignored my @replies...
it wont disable but it gives you more trys, i haven't tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-pattern-attempts-t2711498
Yep, stupid feature. First thing I did with my M8 was disable that. You don't need a custom rom, but you do need root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708628
Scroll down a bit to the -- Common Tweaks -- section.
You could also disable motion launch gestures. That way you'd have to push the power button to wake the screen. Not ideal but it should prevent this type of thing from happening. Or, at least greatly reduce the chances of it.

Sorta think vzw pushed for this "feature" thanks to their desire to get government contracts.

[OPO] Touchscreen issue after foam party

Hello,
So maybe you already laughed a little bit by reading the title of the thread.
I had a foam party yesterday and I was stupid enough to have my oneplus one in my pocket. After about 15 minutes I finally realized that it would be a good idea to put my phone away. When I came back home in the night everything was fine but when I woke up today the touchscreen wasn't responding (only physical buttons worked). So I tried to hard reboot the phone and then everything was working again.
But after some minutes of use, I noticed that a part of the screen was reacting strangely. I went in the setting to activate the "cursor route" and I saw that there is kind of a band in the middle of the screen (about 1 cm) where the tactile is not working.
I removed the back cover and noticed that is was a little bit wet inside .. so I put my phone into some rice.
I tried to see how the screen is responding in my recovery (twrp) and the problem is also there, so I'm pretty sure it's an hardware problem.
Do you have any tips or things I can try to do ? I just want to avoid the Oneplus RMA because I don't want to be without phone for 2 months ..
Thanks in advance !
PS : I'm running CM 11S (latest OTA) and I'm rooted.
Stop using the device at all, you're potentially doing more damage every time you use it while it's wet/damp. Leave it in rice for three days without touching it. After three days is up take it out and inspect the touchscreen again.
okey, so I leave it off in the rice. 3 days without phone will be hard
If I have to replace the tactile screen (without LCD), do you know if I have to use thermal tools ?

Lol, so it's a hardware problem that you soaked your phone ? Sounds more like a user problem.... Good luck trying to pass that on a RMA...Well good luck with trying to get a RMA period... lol

It'll be much longer without your phone if you don't though. And what @Cholerabob is right, what you've done to your phone isn't covered by warranty, warranty doesn't include damage caused by the owner.

If you read my post better, you will understand that I said I don't want to pass it on RMA. Of course I know that I will have to pay about 150e because it's my responsibility and it's not covered by any warranty. That's why I want to change the component myself.
And yes, it's an hardware problem because of a user mistake.
Try to make constructive answers next time at least.
