How can I put stuff on my internal flash drive? I can't seem to access it. I want to put my music or other things on it, I can only get into my external.
You can't access the internal memory.

I think that's something in the upcoming update... someone mentioned the partition tables not being set up properly. Not for sure though...
Go do a google search for motorola medialink I think it is called, this will allow you to sync your music and photos to your phone's internal storage.

As for your internal storage (get your terminology right!), it is ONLY used for app storage. You can't access it or store anything else there.
Don't be too hard on the newbies, it's an honest mistake.

Not being hard on him, just clarifying things. All mistakes are honest, otherwise they'd be called choices.

Wow that was kinda harsh, I am sure he did not mean to imply anything insulting.
We have just have had a rash of issues with newbies jumping in way over their head lately, and those of us that have been here helping out are starting to see a new pattern of the same stuff coming up over and over, and over again, without doing any research on their own. Hence the shortness of the replies lately, that we tend to give now, to a lot of things. Please just excuse us for that, it is not meant as a knock, just that we are a little frustrated with how frustrated people seem to get with things not being farther along for this phone than they are. Those of us, working in here, feel everyones pain, but we also are working hard to make this phone better.
However since you did just get the Atrix 2 you are technically a newbie in this forum, and that is not a slight or a nock, and I knew what you meant earlier about internal storage vs your sd card, and like I had stated medialink is the best choice, but however everyone is correct, that the internal 4GB is just for app storage, and a few other things that only the phone can access.
To be more successful, we all need to work together and not have fighting and so much back and forth, sometimes just let things roll off your back. We are just a frustrated as the rest of you here, about getting things we all want, and we are working towards that, including people like 916x10, remember we give our time freely to make this device better for everyone here, if you eliminate some of us, this phone will die a quick death with development.

I'm gonna take the high road on this one and let that ride...hopefully there won't be a next time
And its not difficult to search the ATRIX 2 forums there's not a huge number of topics and before doing anything for me atleast its common sense to read before doing anything to your device and even then its a your own discretion

It can still be called an internal flash drive, however, because it is flash memory. Unless you have a cool phone like me with a SATA drive in it.

I would think they would have to go that way, since the Atrix is running 16 internal, 1GB RAM and capability for 32GB microSD. What I'm hoping for in this device is something of an "Atrix as it should have been" kind of device. The various rumors have it as having Gingerbread 2.3.4 installed. Was that the case on this device? I'm hoping they rework the exterior (including a kickstand) and go with Gorilla glass for the screen in the production versions. Did you look at the battery yet, as to capacity? I guess basically what I'm hoping for is something like a Thunderbolt or Sensation on steroids as far as features and performance go. I eagerly await your further impressions on this device.
I did not realize we need kernel source for this to work!! My apologies. but when kernel SOURCE does drop this will work! So consider this a future plan and if kernel source never drops?! I'll be selling my phone and have a cheap 64 gig usb flash drive for my ps3/comp! loL So I'm good here!
I wasn't happy when reading that the one x has only 16 gb in storage(technically around 11!)I have over gigs backup in titanium alone! so I looked all around and found a solution that is gonna work for me and it will only cost around 40 bucks USD for all parts needed and will give me an extra 64 gigs to have on me all the time!
First your gonna need one of these or something simillar. My plan is too always have this storage either in my truck or pocket ready to go when I need it!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64GB-TOSHIB...53?pt=US_USB_Flash_Drives&hash=item1c2906d66d
There are alot smaller and lighter drives out there but I wanted cheap and packs alot of storage so this was a good fit for me!
Now in order to access this drive on the fly your gonna need something like this as well or they also have just the fitting without the cord you just gotta look around a little. I prefer having a little bit of cord personally but up to you!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221018356464?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
and this will pretty much solve my issue of not having enough storage. Both pieces are small and like I said the cord and drive are so small you can keep it in your pockets and the best part is you won't need pc access nor working wifi to be able to get to your files/unicorn porn!
I hope you guys can make this work for you as I'm quite satisfied with this solution and will work with alot of phones not just the one x its just a matter of if you dont mind carrying 2 things in your pocket/vehicle/desk drawer/ass etc all the time!

Like I said especially if you play games? those games sometimes add an extra gig of data after all is said and done.A couple big games and your space is done. I don't personally own a tab just a pc and phone. Don't really see the need for a tab as of right now and can't afford one either!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we still waiting on the kernal source for the AT&T HOX to enable USB OTG? It might be working by now for the international version but all I've read so far is that OTG isn't (yet) enabled for the AT&T HOX.

Damn this is awesome! I can't wait for kernel source even more now, the future looks bright. I can have every game I want installed to that, my whole music folder for long car trips and movies for flights! This is working already for the international hox? I don't want to get ahead of myself, I just want to make sure this will become a reality for our phones.

Well you don't have 16gb you have 9.9 after partitioning. I don't put any music or movies on my phone,I stream those and I've filled this internal card without blinking. A couple of nandroid backups, a rom zip or two, titanium backup backup and pics and vids from a 8mp camera will fill er up fast. This is the worst fail about this phone. C'mon a 32 should've been no question when you don't have add on capabilities.
when I do need to access my huge music library or my movies, and under certain circumstances, I use my seagate 500 gb wireless drive I got for my iPad. http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/wireless/goflex-satellite/. That's if I don't have 4g or wifi available for streaming from my pc.
The jury is still out. We don't yet know if the usb port provides power. I hope it does.

Would powered USB hubs provide a workaround if it doesn't? I did a quick search on the international HOX dev forums for anything USB OTG-related, and found an experimental kernel that required you to connect a powered USB hub in a particular way such that the hub power brick was plugged in near the end of the process. I have no idea how it relates to the AT&T version, but shouldn't the int'l HOX give us some indication of what we can expect from the USB port?

Only thing I could think of besides cloud solutions but now theres alot of factors such as if that port is even gonna have enough juice to power peripheral devices/flash drives. I would think it would?? but who the hell knows companys are always out to screw the buyer more and more every day! Plus like I also said even if it doesn't end up working?? you definetly can use that flash drive on other devices and for 50 cents a gig you cant beat that!

Hello Fellow Galaxians.
I am posting this as a quick tutorial. I answered this same question in another thread but since it got a bunch of traction I thought I would put it in this forum instead.
I am not taking credit for the file. I cannot really tell you who created the file. I am telling you how to use it and that it works fine.
PROBLEM - SPECIAL LUCKY HTC OWNERS GET AN EXTRA 48 GIGABYTES OF DROP BOX WHEN THEY USE THEIR PHONES.
HTC made themselves a marketing deal last year. You might have noticed it, but HTC users who load up their phones are welcome to launch a preinstalled Dropbox app that gives them an additional 48 gigs of dropbox storage. This is 2 gigs normal + 48 gigs extra = 50 gigs total.
No other manufacturer has this marketing deal.
SOLUTION - FLASH A FILE AND TRICK DROPBOX INTO THINKING THAT YOU ARE USING AN HTC HANDSET. GET 48 GIGS MORE STORAGE!
Q. - So how does this work?
--Simple, you are flashing a special version of the software that makes dropbox think you are using an HTC phone.
Q. - Is it safe?
--As safe as any other flash you do to your phone. Do a backup. Do one. Have you done one? Better do one now!
Q. - Is it forever?
--Once the dropbox server sees you are using this version of the software, you get the extra space for two years from the time of install
Q. - If I reflash does it stick?
--Yes, dropbox doesnt know if you are using a different phone in the future or the same phone without the special HTC signature saying you are okay for the extra space.
**EDIT: I have read some users lose their space, but cannot confirm it. I dont know... If you were to reflash or move to another rom, you should be able to reflash the package. BACKING UP. BACK UP. DID I SAY THAT ENOUGH??
Q. - Will this work on (my phone model # inserted here?)
--Yes, it should work on any model or phone. I make no guarantees, i have only done this on my rooted, stock rom VZW s3 but in theory yes. it should work. THAT IS WHY YOU BACKUP RIGHT??
-=BACKUP NOW. DONT DO IT, DONT COMPLAIN IF BAD THINGS HAPPEN=-
SIMPLE STEPS TO FOLLOW:
1. Force stop your current drop box app
2. Clear all data
3. Remove the app
4. Download the zip file from this link
5. Be sure to put it on the root of your sd card or internal storage
6. Boot into recovery
7. Flash the zip from step 4
8. Reboot your device.
9. Android will show updating, let it do its thing
10. Sign in to the new drop box app
11. After a few minutes get 48 gigs free for 2 years.
PROFIT.
**NOTE:
If you are new to dropbox, there are a few things you need to do in order to get this working. They are basic like liking them on facebook, tweeting them... Nothing hard, and it will take you only a few minutes.
**CLICK THANKS IF THIS IS HELPFUL TO YOU**

You probably flashed this or another apk at some point to get the original 50GB free storage(As did I), but from dropbox forums they say that if you flashed an unauthorized version, they flag your account and remove the storage. I know this because it happened to me. When I asked if I could get back my storage I was met with "we do not offer that promotion on Verizon wireless"... Just so you all know.....:|
Thanks, that was easy! Got 50 Gb of storage now!

I bought 16gb microsd from kingston, sadly it shows only less than 15gb on my DS 14.8 to be exact
Rom is fallout.
Why does it only shows 15gb? :/
It's normal, my 8gb card shown only 7.5 gb only.
When the card is first formatted it has a partition on it for system/back ups just like a hard drive on the computer. Any SD card will have less useable space then the stated size because of this.

I haven't found one. My GS3 has actually only 14.4gb out of 16 available. I think it actually all depends on your device and the size of the card.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Ok from reading some threads and forums, i found this.
This is totally normal. The advertised size of memory cards/hard drives is the unformatted capacity of the drive/card. When you format the card the File Allocation Table (FAT/FAT32/NTFS) AKA the file system- takes up the difference in space that you see.
Manufacturers sell the drive based on 1GB=1000MB, 1MB=1000kb 1KB=1000bytes....and so on.
Hard drives/Memory Cards are formatted like this: 1GB=1024MB, 1MB=1024kb, 1KB=1024bytes...and so on...
This works out to be approximately a loss of ~74MB per GB of advertised capacity so do the math:
16GB advertised space * 74MB = 1184MB or ~ 1.2 GB
16GB - 1.2GB = 14.8 GB which is what your seeing as your MicroSD card's usable capacity and it totally normal.

After format of a 32 gb micro sdhc are 29,8 gb available, every storage media has this "problem"
It's hard to believe that no one can regulate this for such a long time. Every operating system uses 1024 base and every bloody producer uses 1000. It's plain cheating for me.

There's nothing wrong with your card. A gigabyte is actually 1,073,741,824 bytes (not 1,000,000,000). So, a card labeled "16GB" is in reality ~14.9GB.
(16,000,000,000/1,073,741,824 =14.9
In other words, the device is using the real definition of a gigabyte to calculate the value being displayed.

The thread was still active and not closed, therefore still open for discussion, a suitable answer had not been found, other people could just have easily have come across this thread as we both did.
Is it really such a big deal to warrant your input regarding this ?

The thread was answered on 12th September last year by the OP himself (after searching the Interwebz). The thread has the word "Solved" (actually solve, but we'll let him off for that), indicating it is ... wait for it ... SOLVED
Threads don't get 'closed' on XDA unless they warrant it - for the mods to 'lock' every completed thread, they would have to employ 5 people full-time just to deal with that.
As for "Just came across it", I'm not sure how you did as it was on page 68 before you ressurected it.

I just came across it, as I was looking for it via the 'GOOGLE' search button, because I wanted an answer to the question my self, I had recently purchased a 16gb only to find it was actually 14.8gb, there wasn't a satisfactory answer on this thread, so I continued my Google search and found the answer I posted.
I apologise for any problem it may have caused you, from me resurrecting the thread, at least by you bringing this to my attention, it has well and truly resurrected a thread that would have otherwise have probably died again after my resurrection post.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Okay so I understand that when you buy a 16GB card you only get 14.8GB but mine says that it only has 12.6GB free as if there's something on it? but it's completely empty???
Stupid question, I know, but since my micro sd slot on my note died, i have serious issues installing apps, and had to cut about two thirds of what i had installed.
The current partitioning of storage on my note looks like:
{

note (pun not intended) that "device storage" is where apps, and apps only get installed, and "USB storage" is everything else. app2sd was great, when I had a functioning sd slot, but not really an option now, since it doesn't recognize the usb storage partition as a card, even though it mounts at "sdcard0" :-/
Been looking to upgrade anyways, and since the n5 has a 32GB option (yay!), just looking for some confirmation on what the storage looks like. Hoping it's just one big section where everything gets put. Only having 2GB set aside is quite a pain :'(
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: oh, and before someone replies "but you have 200MB free", it seems to take about 10x the space of the app to update it. I don't know why, and since i'm planning to replace this soon, it really doesn't matter. The last few updates to chrome have all failed to install unless I ditch something small, update chrome, re-install what I ditched. Even restarting has ceased to work
It'll be one big partition. The beauty of no SD card.
My Nexus S has no SD Card butt only 1Go for apps ... hope it will be bigger on N5

See, this is what I'm looking to avoid. I don't wanna go from one bad situation to another. I know it hasn't got into a lot of hands yet, but if someone could post up a screen of the n5's storage like I did?
If it's the same as my Galaxy Nexus then there are no limits as to how you use your storage. Fill it up any way you like - all music, all apps whatever
On the 16Gb Model you get 12.55gb available.

Thanks, this is what I wanted to know!
I think the OP wants to know how much storage is the partition where you can install your apps. On my one x for example it's 2 GB. I hope N5 will not have more then 2 GB. In my country only the 16GB model is available so I'm more worried about the FAT partition. But that's 12,55GB if you are right. Would be great!

Yep! From what few images there are of the storage settings screen of the n4, and GrenW's post here it seems like the nexus phones are a "1 partition for everything" type setup
I might just buy one anyways. My note has been really starting to act up lately

Yes I saw that also, it's different to what I'm used to at my one x but is definitely better this way. One partition for all.

The Nexus S still had a segregated partition because its architecture was originally designed for the launch of Android 2.3 which did not support single unified storage. From the GNex onwards, all the space on a Nexus device's data partition is shared between apps, app data and the "sdcard" folder.

Awesome to hear! Went and ordered one. It'll be like a month and a half wait, but it'll be worth it for the storage arrangement!
Thanks!!
