[Q] Kernel Construction - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
I wanted to get a look into how you guys build kernels for new devices and phones, as I want to eventually build my own. Do you have a guide or series of pages I can read that gives me the basics?
Side Question: I am running cyanogen mod on my tbolt, what kernel out there do you recommend for speed and that functions well with cyanogen mod.

[Q] recently rooted looking for custom roms

Hey there, i rooted my NS, and was looking for some suggestions as to what the best roms are to flash? I am running stock 2.3 and rooted. Thanks, wester
I swear by the MIUI Roms

Same as above for SuperAosp.
This is the thread you want, although it has not been updated with the newer ROMs.

You're using Nexus S. The freedom is in your hand.
I'd just try any ROM out there. If one of them seems to be good, make a backup with CWM, then try the rest -- this way you can always switch back and forth. Once you have tried them all, you'll know which ROM suits you most
CM7 is my daily use rom. but i plan on trying out infinity today, have high hopes.

Alright, let me explain what a kernal does, so you'll understand why exactly they don't work.
The kernals main and only feature is to maintain the hardware and how the phone works, entirely. It's not actually Android User Interface (AUI), but what makes the AUI work and give the usability of the phone to the user.
Each phone has a different base kernal, making it impossible to used on a phone with different hardware. The only kernal available for AOSP/CM is the one that it comes with. If you choose to use the Sense ROM's, some of them work with the OC/UV kernal RomanBB posted linked here.

[Q] cyanogen just released CyanogenMod 7.2 RC1

is anyone going to port this to our skyrocket? well i know we have a released for our phone but it has alot of problems will this release fix the problem?http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-2-0-rc1-is-upon-us
Simply put... nope
We don't even have a fully working kernel yet.
no. The day we get a decent enough cm7 kernel is the day MIUI and cm7 start to work

new kernel dev needed

Since we lose intX and his kernel, anyone can take over his kernel and continue to update? Lets take a look the dev forum, except mohans rom and kernels , almost all thread is cm ,aokp roms.
Don't think you're gonna find help this way. Since the only incentive is interest, you'll just have to wait.

I've been thinking about building a custom kernel.. there are some extra modules I'd like to include anyway.
I've built the Linux kernel thousands of times, including cross compile for arm and custom patch sets etc.
But for some reason when i tried building an Android kernel a few months ago it just wouldn't boot no matter what. So don't get your hopes up.
I'll give it a shot though when i get a chance. You mainly want some extra governors? Under volt?
I'd rather start with a fresh cm base and merge in specific things as i go.

Ill be doing kernel builds and theming soon. I can do rom builds but we have enough devs for that at the moment with the rookie thread bringing in quite a few new devs. I have done things going on with my 4 daughters but as soon as I get that worked out ill be moving to kernels. Will be about a month before I have my first custom kernel released.

As long as this doesn't turn into a my ROM is better than your ROM or a playground for people trying to get 10 posts.....it can stay open.
I'm running beanstown build 20 on my Note 2 and i love it!
I wanted stock android with some of the features that touchwiz offer. Very well put together ROM.
thanks for all answer ,im using stock rom right now  please give thanks to my post please :victory:
Jellybam
If you have one of it's many supported devices, I highly reccomend Jellybam. Jellybam has many features from many ROMs, and is not disimiliar to PAC-Rom, but I find many more options to customize, like custom notification background, and even custom halo color etc.
Overall, for my P3110, the ROM is quite fast, even without over clock, and the Deva update it quite frequently, plus these updates are stable and most of the time quite major and useful

Just recently picked up the Carbon rom and loving it! I use them for the customization and the fact that they boost performance and battery life
The phone I own is a first gen LG Optimus V. The ROM I use now is MiRaGe CM7.2 ROM. The reasons I rooted and flashed was to get better performance, over clocking, USB Tethering, removel of all bloat ware and useless apps, and to be able to make Nandroid backups of my installed ROM, apps, and settings. Before I did all this, I ran stock Froyo 2.2.1 and was plagued with all sorts of problems the LG Optimus phones were known for. And I was 100% o.k. with voiding my warranty too.:good::laugh:
my device is alcatel currently using experia by shinjarey, long battery life and smooth.
I use original rom

My old HTC Desire used Cyanogen Mod, my current HTC One X and S3 are using Stock Roms still.
My tablet at the moment using Ubuntu Touch, might go for another rom as the Ubuntu Touch is missing some key features I want in the tablet right now as it is a Dev release. Will hopefully go back to Ubuntu Touch in a later release when those features are there.
