Phonepad Keyboard App

So yeah, I spend the whole day searching for a better phonepad keyboard. But everything that pops out is for qwerty. Texting is a major communication tool in our country and yeah, english is not the norm so I can't use Swype even though I'm dying too use it. So a better phonepad keyboard is the solution.
I wanna change it since the Optimus 1 keyboard is too cramped for me, I'm looking for one with bigger keys.

What exactly are you looking for? A number pad style keyboard? Blackberry style keyboard (2 letters per key)? Or just a better QWERTY?
I'm not sure but I think the HTC_IME keyboard allows various styles to choose from (all of the above 3 I mentioned). There is also Swype which eliminates the need for large keys (because you don't press the keys, you use motion gestures).
Me, I personally love the stock Android keyboard. It seems pretty good at knowing what I'm pounding out.

A number pad keyboard. The ones that you see from older phones

Search for the IME mod keyboard. It's got a phone keypad style keyboard.

Download the 1.5 vers. I use it on my phone and it works great !

Oh no. Wait, I had a bit of a problem.
I don't know what is the setting called but I'm pretty sure it's present in tis app.
When I use the phonepad keyboard, for example I press "2" so the 1st letter that will come out is "A" I noticed that the time that "A" is highlighted is quite long compared to the native android keyboard, thus slowing my typing down. It does not only affect the phonepad keyboard but also the compact qwerty. How do I edit this setting? Thanks!!

Sorry, you cannot edit that setting.
Try instead Better keyboard. It also has a keypad-like one.

Hello, last friday I just bought a Transformer and I am very happy with it, im from Argentina and we use some words with "ñ", anyone knows if this is possible with the keyboard dock?

Press & hold the N key on keyboard, they slide to the proper one

That was the first thing I´ve tried, it only writes a lot of ñ!
Maybe it works on the onscreen kb, but I bought the kb dock for use it

On the dock you have to type the ~ then the N key

nope, still not working, it first wrires the ~an then the naked "n" (~n)

Works here. It even highlights the "~", like it's waiting for me to push the "n" to make it "ñ".
You sure you've selected the Asus keyboard as active input method? Dock keyboard can still be used (with limited functionality) even when a different keyboard is selected.

Does the dock has an alt key? Can you try alt + 164
alt (hold) 164 (release)

Have you rooted your device? If answer is yes, send me a private and I will you explain how to modify one file in order to get ñ by presing ALTgr + n

[Q] is there any good input methods for XOOM?

get XOOM recently, relatively satisfied with it. the screen's big and seems nice!
But inputting on PAD is quite different with phone, which input method do u guys use on XOOM? is there any good ones to introduce? Thank U

I meant to hit quick reply...it's too early in the morning!
Ok, so I use Tablet Keyboard, which can be used as a split keyboard --easier to use if you're holding it as well as a one piece that is almost exactly like a fullsize pc keyboard with numbers/symbols on top. It works great.
I also use flexT9 keyboard from the makers of Dragon Naturally Speaking--you can swipe, draw, speak and tap with this keyboard and its just a keypress to change between the modes. The swipe works especially well but you need to train it a bit for voice and to get your own entries into the dictionary.
I recommend both...there's a free version of Tablet to check out but I use the paid version.

Hi all,
when using my TF with dock I bumped into a problem - the keyboard dock does not work well with 3rd party input methods (e.g. Go keyboard thumb layout). I was looking for an app or some other way to auto-switch current input method when docking/undocking.
When searching and googling I found a guide to auto-display input method chooser dialog when docked/undocked (Here).
Another related guide was about re-mapping keys on the dock keyboard (Here)
Well, my aim is to create an overall keyboard utility that would enable easy keyboard auto-switching and possibly re-mapping less useful keys (e.g. brightness) to something more practical.
I've started working on the application (well, spent a few hours over two evenings ), at the moment it is very simplistic. I just replicates the behavior from the Tasker guide, so that it shows the input method chooser dialog after docking and undocking (plus a config to enable/disable this). I did not want to purchase Tasker just for this.
I know that it is an intentional android security measure that apps cannot switch input methods at will, but if someone has an idea how to overcome this (for rooted devices), please, let me know.
Anyway, here is an initial version. Hopefully, someone else besides me will find it useful. Any comments, suggestions highly appreciated!

I use tasker and confirm this works the same.
Your app does have 1 big advantage over tasker. With tasker everytime I close the tab&dock into their clamshell shape, when I unfold them and the screen turns on, tasker makes the pop up come on even though I did not undock the tab.

Brilliant! Now can you make an option to allow it to auto switch between says Asus keyboard layout when docked and Thumbs keyboard when undocked pretty please?

I've found that the keyboard choice dialog does come up when (un)undocking, but that it's "dead" (it ignores selections - NOTHING happens) - I have to tap outside the dialog to make it disappear, and then bring up the dialog "manually" via the settings menu.
Any solution?

I have same "problem", but I just wait one minute and dialog unfreeze.

using autostarts you can disable that pop up.
using the guide in this thread i remapped my dock keyboard so that i could use whatever soft keyboard i wanted ( i use smart keyboard pro) and the dock keys wouldnt change.
my problem was that the only way i could get the @ key on the dock keyboard to work was with the standard asus keyboard chosen on the tablet, any other soft keyboard and the @ key wouldnt work.
all solved now though!!

I am lost in all these threads and guides and what not..
What I need is: how to make dock type in Cyrillic Serbian, like the on screen keyboard? I do not need the automatic change of KB, I just need the possibility to type in Cyrillic. When I select serbian, dock stays US and onscreen is changed only..
When you do the remapping from the already mentioned thread, is it possible after that to change to US easily?

Hi i was wondering if there is a way to configure my dock keyboard in a way that when i press Ctrl+Shift it will change the input language??

Look around for a keyboard manage app. I know one existed, but I don't remember if it was a ROM specific feature or not.

Also, some keyboards (SwiftKey, TouchPal) control the handling of changing languages.
