[Q] Change Splash Screen? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I haven't seen a thread yet on changing the splash screen. Do we have a method of doing so yet?
Thanks.

bump ......

You need to flash a kernel that allows you to change the boot animation. Read the op's for each available kernel.

Thank you for the reply, but I am referring to the Samsung splash screen, the very first thing you see when you boot the phone, not the boot animation.

What an extremely unhelpful and unnecessary reply. Whether you can muster up the understanding or not, people change splash screens on their phones all the time (just check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938988, or http://forum.xda-developers.com/tags.php?tag=splash+screens). There is nothing unusual about it at all.

It's a personal preference, I like the Samsung splash, but I hate the Rogers one!

And thats fine.lets keep it peacefull please.

I am interested in changing the slash screen and boot animation.

I would like to change the boot animation of a custom rom I just installed to the ICS one, is there a way to do it without the need of re-installing the rom?

The splash screen is built into the kernel if I recall correctly.
I don't believe there is an easy way to change it. Maybe one of our kernel devs could give some input. I know faux changed the splas screen in his kernel but I do miss the ease of changing it on a whim

There is a tutorial here, but it's for the HTC Evo:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193698
Perhaps it could be adapted to the SGS2?

in this case yes, its only a couple pages. but if the thread had been long, no.

At the risk of being punished for necromancy here's a little guide by me that explains how to change splash for pretty much any android device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575106 (it deals with viewpad 7 but same steps can be adapted easily to any device with any splash resolution with just a bit of common sense )
Hope it helps people who are looking to change splash for "unusual" devices and saves them some time (I had to spend quite some time torturing the VP 7 to "get it right")

Rom Toolbox says that it can be used to change boot animation & boot logos.. Is it as simple as the description suggests, and does it work with our phones?
Sent From my Two Tin Cans & String Device on The Wookie Network

I just tried Rom Toolbox and it does not support changing the splash/boot image; no phone even close to the Galaxy S II is listed.
Nor does it work for changing the boot animation, for what it's worth...

Using an app like root explorer,
Go into system/media then copy and paste your current bootanimation.zip somewhere else as a backup.
Then after turning on read/write delete it and replace it with the bootanimation.zip of your choice. (tip) Sometimes you need to name it sanim.zip instead of bootanimation.zip and
Reboot.
[Now back to my lab to try and make a custom boot animation...mwahahahaha.]

Boot animation
Thanks ever so much for your replies:
/System/Media - Attempted those steps and none worked. In that folder there are Qmg files within this folder.
Any other suggestions? As for turning on read write im certain that its turned on as I"m using Root Explorer.
Sorry for the late reply. The splash screen is, the first image that shows then comes the boot animation.
Idk how to change the infuses splash but I kno on the att sgs2 we got to flash a custom image with Odin then run a .bat. This of start the sgs2 has do.
I did at one time try an app that did this, but it messed up one of my files and did a boot loop
.
Sent from my i777 high in the sky
you need a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip. the infusion kernel does but its named sanim.zip instead. if you are on froyo then get the defuse or community kernel infusion froyo for overclock...
on gingerbread you are looking for the entropy DD or hellraiser or infusion gb.
the stock kernel plays a .qmg file which is proprietary and can only be replaced with files from galaxy s phones. if all you want to do is get rid of the att branding then you can take the Samsungboot.qmg or whatever from a galaxy s i9000 rom.
boom.

its not nearly as easy as changing out a zip...you have to edit a database file and push it back onto a read-only partition...
buuuuuut thats only half of it as the splash screen is actually two images back to back
the other image is in the kernel and i have no idea how to f*cks with that
Then why doesn't someone hack it? Or try it...don't talk about it....today I will release Zeus with facial recognition, I didn't say when the hardware was released "idk if infuse can run this or not"....I just grabbed the files and got my dev on....I'm sure the splash screen can be changed....tho I've never tried...I'm sure it can...just grab the files you need and test test test....don't wonder...do it...

maybe this weekend... but really its not that easy.
but I forgot it may be in the kernel not param.ifs and bootloaders. I gotta dig into really old threads. I don't think its in the bootloaders like the i9000 gb bootloaders but if it is I'm certainly not messing with it. if its the kernel then I can take a crack at compiling one from someones github but I've never done it successfully.
the thing is I know who knows about each mod but haven't really ever gotten questions answered..

[Q] UnNamed Install Failed

Hello all,
Just got the Skyrocket about a month ago, it's rooted, but just got into the idea of installing anew ROM/Kernel and decided to try out UnNamed, then possibly install Faux123's Kernel.
I booted to CWM (5.0.2.6), backed up, wiped, wiped cache and tried to install from zip, but the install fails with Status 1. I have searched everywhere, but couldn't find anything about it. I am currently restoring the NANDroid backup I made prior to attempting to flash so I can use my phone.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated as I am brand new to the Android scene.

Well, back to researching other ROMs then.

Before I discovered XDA I started on Google and a lot of results came up for UnNamed and the Skyrocket like someone tagged the site/post/whatever incorrectly. As far as the research goes I want to look at what the different ROMs have to offer, any complaints or issues users are experiencing with them, etc. to make a decision as to which one I would like to install. Same thing with Kernels.

When you start calling people names, you are the one that appears immature and childish, no matter how correct you may be.
The problem is, though, you are not correct. Maybe it only appears as a "simple" mistake to you, probably because you don't care or haven't spent enough time in the forums, but for people who frequent XDA then it has become a cumulative nuisance.
Also, when the majority of users responding in the thread you started is either questioning the logic of your statement or placement of the thread then maybe you need to reflect on what you were trying to accomplish and maybe take into consideration how you can achieve better results in the future. Long story short, try to learn from your mistakes.
Okay, so, International One x won't be compatible because of hardware differences, but what about the One S roms? I just tried flashing the CM9 port for the S, and it flashed successfully but upon reboot the screen was just filled with green graphical glitches. Rebooting back into recovery and attempting to restore my backup of the stock system didn't work at all, so RUU for me... but, why wouldn't a One S ROM work? It has 99% of the same hardware... besides the qHD screen. I remember being able to flash a Droid 3 ROM to my bootloader-locked Atrix 2 and it booting up just fine. What's different here?

[Q] Power on T-mobile mark

When i start up my samsung galaxy S there's a bit of text under that says "exclusively from T-mobile". Is there anyway to get rid of this? Maybe by using a different rom or something? I've rooted my phone if thats of any help.
This has been asked a dozen times. But the answer is no. It's part of the unmodifiable boot.img.

Funny thing is I don't have the UNMODIBLE.boot.img? Flash a custom ROM and it's gone. Not really unmodifiable I'd say
It's part of param.lfs which is used by the bootloader for getting and setting parameters and such. If we ever create an alternative bootloader for the SGS4G, we would be able to get rid of it. Or if we were able to repack param.lfs, we could modify the bootloader image. Until then, and likely for the foreseeable future, this is not a possibility.

No his guide is for the first part. The 2nd part image is controlled by the kernel.
Ha, the funny thing is that I changed my splash completely.
I built the CM kernel, edited the drivers>video>samsung>whatevervibrantpluslogo.h.
That changes your kernel splash...(like the Team Acid Logo)
Then I modded my param. The only good thing about having 2 different splashes, one from param, and the other from the kernel is that if you flash something that didn't boot, if you get the kernel logo, that means you can still go into recovery and reflash your older rom, etc...

I have flashed new kernels and an old CWM... neither gets rid of him (her).
My two cents: We are all here to have independence from people putting crap and bloat on our phones! We want our phones to look, smell and act the way we want them. Thanks so much to the dedicated developers and open source that we have this available to us!
I think that if i wanted an alien in a splash screen, I would put him there... BUT I don't!
So I say shame on whomever put it in there.
