Yeah. It's in hex. The 1st 2 numbers after the B reflect the month the dock was manufactured in. Since we ain't got a single digit number that reflects 10, 11, or 12, they're using hex. A = 10, B=11, C=12, and so on and so forth.
If you can't deal with the emotional impact of having a hex serial number, you should get an ipad.
LOL, I kid I kid.

K and S part were for something else. It's their system. Who knows what it's for. So far, we just know that the second number represents the month it was produced. It stands to reason that after 9, we have A.
O is not hex either, the first 2 chars are though, B=11 as in 20(11) and the A is 10 as in October. the OKAS will be something else entirely, probably mfg line identifier or maybe even hardware identifiers

No it is clearly an O for Oscar, look closely at it, or call asus and register for an RMA

I checked the box and the label under the battery, googled for "secret codes" ... but I just can't find my NSs' mfg dates anywhere - "my NSs" being two factory unlocked i9023s, carrier id EUR, running 2.3.4 (GRJ22).
While we're at it I'd also like to find out where they were built (the actual factory, not just the country).
Why do I want to know? GPS works ok-ish (still not great, but what can you do) on one but is nigh unusable on the other and I was thinking, maybe one particular batch or plant has shoddy quality control.
Thanks for any pointers.

Its under your battery. There is a number that looks like 11.04 that number is the year/month it was created.
So in the case that it is 11.04 It was made in April 2011.

Factory unlocked i9023s (European variant with SLCD). That and more really should have been in the first post from the beginning, sorry. It is now.
Is there away if I decided to buy the Transformer, that I can see the serial number? I mean when I go into Bestbuy, is the serial number right on the box? If so what should I look for? I want to be able to root my device, this is the only thing hold me back from buying one, and am kind of leaning towards the GTab because of the rooting ability.
Sure. The serial number is printed on the sides or the back (possibly both, can't remember). I think mine has it printed on the back but I vaguely remember seeing it on the sides too.
It's a rectangular white sticker with black writing all over it and barcodes. The serial number is in the format BXONNNNNNNNN... where the X is the month which I'm sure you already know by now. The ... means I was too lazy to actually count how many alphanumeric chars there are in the serial number string. But the front always starts with BXO.
Happy hunting!
Oh and starting B6O they use black tape to hold the box on either side instead of green tape which is B5O and below.
GTab is crap compared to the Transformer, don't settle for anything less than the best. Unless you're talking about the Galaxy Tab 10.1, I think you're talking about the ****ty Viewsonic G-Tab.

Last I heard they were not able to root using B7O. Apparently there's a team working on a way around it but you'll have to google for more info. They locked the bootloader since B7O.

Go through this thread. People are posting what they have found is rootable and not rootable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208339
I live in Canada, picking up a Transformer and would like to root it. I'm scared I might pick on up and find out it's not rootable.
No. Depends on your model. Check the serial sticker on the tf near the bottom. From what I gather those starting with B70 and B80 can't be rooted. Do a search and find out why.
not quite right some b70 can be rooted but its about 50/50 mines a b70kas0224 and from what i have heard they switched the sku at about b70kas240
Is there a way to find out? Yeah researching on the internet isn't going to help.
As the other user stated SOME B70 models can be rooted but anything B80 or later cannot be rooted at this time.
The number doesnt refer to a version number but purely the date of manufacture (B70 = July, B80 = August) and half way through July the key was changed which made the existing root method redundant.
I dont think any of the developers who made the original root method have a newer model so they cannot do the same thing for it. If a developer comes along and purchases a newer model then a root method may be created but right now my first statement holds true.
Your only way to ensure you could get hold of an older model which can definitely be rooted (B60) would be to buy one from a store and ask to see the unit before purchasing it. You could then look at the bottom where the serial number is and check if it starts with B60. If it starts with B70 then its 50/50 whether its the rootable model or not and you couldnt make sure without the check method (via linux) in the development forum.

The number is just the serial number. If you're picking it up in person you can ask to look at the box. The serial number is on the box also since the store might not let you open the box to look at the tab itself. To be safe anything starting with B60 or older is rootable. Like already mentioned some B70 are rootable but it's 50/50.
The serial number shows B60/B70 etc? I thought it didn't :S

Nice with the discounts!
I guess you have to leverage if 20% and $5 cheaper worth the rooting procedure at this given time (if B70s & B80s can be rooted at a later time)
I managed to secure a good deal:
$389.99 - EEE Pad Transformer 16GB TF101
$89.99 - Keyboard Dock
$5.99 - invisibleSHIELD screen protector
$0.00 - ASUS OEM Sleeve (combo pack with PAD transformer purchase)
$549 AFTER TAXES...
+++ I got a free Class 10, 32GB microSDHC card - birthday gift card used at BestBuy!!!
So, $549 for a 48GB EEE Pad!!!! (Still rocks compared to iPad 2 that I was considering ....)
How long do you expect a root for B80s? and same here,I was considering an iPad 2 aswell. Only think I like about the iPad 2 is it has more apps/better partnership with developers and it's responsive UI.
btw at CC,it's $399 for the 16,how'd you get it for $389?

There isn't an eta it could be a few days or it may never happen. Don't buy a new unit unless you will be happy whether its rootable or not as you may end up disapointed. If you need it to be rooted then make sure to get one from a shop and check the serial number first.

Behind the box, look under the serial, it should start with B50XX,B60XX or so...
From what I learned, only those models with those serial numbers are rootable...and Canada Computers seem to be carrying them.
^^^B40 also but I doubt there's any still around. Early B70 too but I wouldn't take a chance, its 50/50

Nopes you can't it's locked.
Hi I was wondering if anyone unlocked their phone using the code that's stored on the phone. I'm sure it will work but I don't have a sim from another carrier to try it right now.
To get your own phones code do this.
adb shell
strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p6
It should output a bunch of stuff but one of the lines will be UN_lock_code=12345678
After that put in an unsupported sim and it should ask for a code. Put in the one from the adb shell output.
Ok I have tried this.
1) You need root
2) It can be done from Terminal Emulator
In Terminal, type:
su
strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p6
I successfully got to the output code but got a 9-digit code (0333*****).
I put in a different sim card and was prompted for a code, but it needs an 8-digit number. I tried it without the first zero but that did not work.....
Anyone used it to get a number that works?
Not me, Im unlocked already always have been, Vodafone have never simlocked any phone ive had from them, Which is strange because other users have
I get 9 digits too.
I ran this to see what it returned. The code was not even close to the actual unlock code I used to unlock my phone.
There are several sellers on [UK] ebay offering unlock codes for only £1.19
At the moment most say they only work for IMEI numbers beginning 3599010417xxxxx
Might be worth a punt if my IMEI is added to the list

I think i have just worked out how to get the correct code from the number supplied by above method.
Can you please confirm by checking the output code using method above and actual code you used.
Code is :
number obtained using above method - (last 3 digits of imei x 10+digits 8-12 of imei added to the end to make a number 7 digits long)
Hope that makes sense.
eg
imei = 359901041286633
number obtained using above method = 150574005
150574005 -63301286 = 87272719 (Unlock code)
This gives a number 9 digits long though....
We need an 8-digit number for the unlock code!

786987654 -3450512 = 783 537 142 = 9 digits !
There MUST be a way of getting to the real unlock code from the IMEI and the UN_Lock code in the OP. The UN_lock code works on the Sensation without any altering!
You may well be close with your theory, but if it is giving us a 9-digit number it cannot be right ...

That is just an example. You need to substitute the numbers with your own imei and the nine digit code needs to be the one obtained from your phone using the method in post1of this thread.

When you say 1 digit out is it 1 digit higher/lower or as i suspect is is the x10 bit that i got wrong?
Maybe it is just a "0" in my case and something else for your carrier.

They told me the same but it hasn't worked for anyone I've read of that's tried that. Just keep pushing. Tell them that it's bad business to sell defective devices. I mean tbh that's what it IS basically even if everything works perfectly except the serial/unlock issue. Honestly they should have a pretty direct route for doing this after enough people have to get these tokens generated. Their aware of the problem so it's not like it's a unique situation
Just wanted to chime in, just purchased an unlocked T-Mobile Oneplus 9 from Airtalk Wireless. Mine has a 6 character serial number. Hopefully it doesnt take even longer to get an unlock token since I am missing 2 characters.
Took a month but I got Oneplus to send me an unlock token .bin going to try and unlock the bootloader a bit later.
