I checked the box and the label under the battery, googled for "secret codes" ... but I just can't find my NSs' mfg dates anywhere - "my NSs" being two factory unlocked i9023s, carrier id EUR, running 2.3.4 (GRJ22).
While we're at it I'd also like to find out where they were built (the actual factory, not just the country).
Why do I want to know? GPS works ok-ish (still not great, but what can you do) on one but is nigh unusable on the other and I was thinking, maybe one particular batch or plant has shoddy quality control.
Thanks for any pointers.

Register it on the Samsung website. When you enter in the HEX it will give you a manufacture date.

Thanks, but is this US-only perhaps? Neither Google's nor Samsung's local sites mention anything about registering.
Its under your battery. There is a number that looks like 11.04 that number is the year/month it was created.
So in the case that it is 11.04 It was made in April 2011.

No, there isn't. Model number, Serial number, FCC ID, CE number(?), IMEI ... that's it.
Kudos for trying, though.

Wow, great ASCII art!
But ... nope, nothing at all to the right of the S/N ... I suppose the labels differ by model/market/mfg plant/whatever. (Interestingly one of mine has "Made in Korea by Samsung" and one just "Made by Samsung".)

Factory unlocked i9023s (European variant with SLCD). That and more really should have been in the first post from the beginning, sorry. It is now.

LG and T-Mobile in all their wisdom have yet unleased another G2X model number upon the world. It is being supported by the LG Update program for rom updates also. Some people reported that TMO was giving this model away at a Chicago trade event and on a Twitter contest. Is the illusive white model? Or is is just the same same we have now with another label slapped on its insides? It would be interesting to know what the actual differences are between the model numbers. I will begin.
LG-P999DW - Original released version that most people have.
LG-P999DWP - One of the units reportedly a refurbished unit. But how does it differ from the LG-P999DWDU?
LG-P999DWDU - Another reportedly refrubished unit. Again, how does it differ, if at all, from the LG-P999DWP refurb units.
LG-P999WA - The new mysterious designation supposedly given out as freebies. Is there any hardware differences between previous models. Why oh why another hardware designation for the same device? Any of you with one of these bad boys/girls (gender neutral device for the PC crowd) let us know if you have discovered any differences between what you have and what we have.
Any other model deisgnators out there for the same hardware we have all come to love, loathe, adore, hate, etc.
Thanks TMO and LG. You gave us something else to talk and ruminate about while we are waiting for you to step up and give us 2.3.6 and then ICS (we love Ice Cream).
Thanks for this. I was wondering which was which the other day buy didn't feel like reading through other threads
how am i supposed to tell which one mine is...

The battery cover tells you nothing. They are all labeled P999, even P990s. The only way to tell is to connect your device to the LG Updater. It will connect to the device and tell you which model number you have. You are okay as long as you don't press the "start update" button.

That doesn't help either as the "DWP" and "DWDU" units are labeled "DW" on the sticker. The only way to tell for sure is to use the LG Updater to identify the device.

I wasn't aware of this, and yeah I was referring to what was printed under the battery after taking the battery cover off.
So anyway, how can I find out which model I have under the updater tool? I plug it in and it detects it, but doesn't tell me which model I have anywhere. Should I be looking somewhere specific?
-edit-
Nevermind, I guess you need to be running stock or OTA firmware for the updater tool to tell you what model you have. I tried with Cyanogenmod flashed and it told me there was an update but it wouldn't say what I have

Here is a screengrab with the area circled in green where the updater tells you what phone model you have. This appears after the updater connects with the phone and checks the current software version.

Yeah. It's in hex. The 1st 2 numbers after the B reflect the month the dock was manufactured in. Since we ain't got a single digit number that reflects 10, 11, or 12, they're using hex. A = 10, B=11, C=12, and so on and so forth.
If you can't deal with the emotional impact of having a hex serial number, you should get an ipad.

K and S part were for something else. It's their system. Who knows what it's for. So far, we just know that the second number represents the month it was produced. It stands to reason that after 9, we have A.
O is not hex either, the first 2 chars are though, B=11 as in 20(11) and the A is 10 as in October. the OKAS will be something else entirely, probably mfg line identifier or maybe even hardware identifiers

If you have access to the phone, I believe you can look at the sticker under the battery. I think the Developer editions read "DE" or "DEV" on the sticker.

Yes, thank you. I'm already aware of Swappa and its ESN checker. I'm not worried about whether the phone will work or not.
Rather, I wanted to know if there were hardware/software indicators that would let me know whether the phone is actually a developer's version. The ESN check doesn't tell you the make/model of the phone. And IMEI.info gives incorrect information (says it's a Nokia 1616).

Well, I got this far... Apparently somehow my device was already listed! Guess I'm starting to get senile, because I don't remember having listed this phone...
Nevertheless: my old phone (Moto G2 2014) is listed also. Though I opted in in 2014 I never got an invitation.
The phone I'm typing this on is listed as a regular G4, but it actually is a G4 Plus! (but they have the right serial number...) Furthermore it says I'm in the US, but actually I'm Dutch. I have no option to opt-in for MFN for this particular phone, though I'm opted in for MFN in general (for my old Moto G 2014?)
Nevermind. I'll get along. This is absolutely not a user friendly site. At least not when you're not from a country where they expect you to be... And The Netherlands is a very, very small country!

Hi,
This thread will probably die unanswered, but if you think you can help me identify my phone, you're amazing.
I got this phone by buying it from a friend of a friend. Not a good way to start off, I know.
The reason I first wanted to identify it was to find a custom ROM. But I've now understood that this may never happen.
Things I know for sure about the phone:
It has 4G
It has 2 SIM slots
Charge is done through normal micro USB
There is 1 micro SD slot
It has "3D Sound" (if that's any helpful)
It has 1 back and 1 front camera
It has an audio jack (definitely not the iPhone 7)
It runs Android 4.4.4
Things that don't really help
The brand: "Zuka" -> didn't give many results on Google. I did a reversed search by taking a picture, a Chinese reselling website showed up. I can't post links yet.
The sticker behind the phone's battery. It displays 2 IMEIs. I've checked both but it turns out they're probably fake, because the results corresponded to old LG flip phones. I'm not sure what to trust at this point!
I cannot post the Chinese website link unfortunately. It gives info about the processor, memory etc. (1.66GHz eight-core, 2GB RAM, 4800mAh power...)
Anyway, that's probably all the info I can give. If I forgot something, ask me! Sorry if my English is bad, I'm French!
If you have an hypothesis of what this phone is, post it below!
Thanks!
You could try to get more info by installing some hardware identification app from play. If you're rooted you can also check the build.prop for more info.

There should be a model number to identify it but from what you're describing it sounds like a clone, which means it actually can't truly be identified as "that" or "this" device.
The reason why it has misleading IMEI information is probably because, as I said, it's a clone which means it was not manufactured by a typical manufacturer(where it would get its own IMEI and model number), it has probably had the IMEI from another device written to it.
You're right, you'll probably never find anything to get a clear picture of what it is or what you can do with it.
In my opinion, I'd put in a junk drawer and get another device that CAN be identified.

Thanks for your answer
That's close to what I was thinking of. This phone has nothing official. On the sticker where I found those 2 misleading IMEIs was a line saying "S/N: Zuka". That's it... No serial number whatsoever.
Not to mention I don't have any package coming with that phone, of course
Anyway, I'll keep using it for now because it works, has 4G, a decent battery life, and is rooted! :good:
