I can't get music from force closing when I try to stream to my phone. Tried fresh ROM install, tried nandroid backup that it used to work on. Fixed permissions, cleared data, uninstall reinstall, different kernels, different apk downloads, installed as system app, installed as user app. Tried everything and in different orders.
Any ideas?

Are you blocking ads?
Yes. Never thought of it. Will unblock.
Edit: problem solved. +1000 internets to you

What are you using to block ads? A specific app or your own host files? I'd say it has to do with which host files you use as they're all gonna have different addresses blocked.
EDIT: Just tried it using AdAway and the default hosts with no problem. Was using a custom host file I'd gotten from somewhere before.
AdFree is what i use, i refreshed my cloud today, syncronized perfectly with the phone
For myself I used the ad blocking feature of ROM toolbox. Not sure why but turning this off did the trick. I haven't played with any other settings.

So on my dad's droid 1, rooted, he had Adfree installed and working just fine. He was using an application the was ad supported then set his phone down and 2 mins later picked it up opened the same applies and there were ads on his screen. He didn't disable anything in that time. Adfree says there's a hosts update but will not longer download or block ads. Prior to this he had installed autokiller memory optimizer. We thought it was that, so we uninstalled it and adfree is still not working. Cleared cache and data for adfree, tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still no go. I'm at a loss. Any help is appreciated.

Adfree works by blocking known advertisement addresses via the HOSTS file. If an app is simply pulling advertisements from somewhere not specifically listed to be blocked in the HOSTS file, the advertisements will be shown as usual. It is somewhat of a cat and mouse game to constantly keep up to date on where advertisements are coming from, to then block them. Nothing is awry with the phone, it is completely normal.
As for Adfree not downloading the latest HOSTS file update (I believe that's what you said), could be numerous things. Check and make sure it is still being allowed Superuser permission.

I'm jkbhs03's dad and it's my phone that's having the problem. Maybe I can explain a little clearer than my son did. Anyway, I've had Adfree working on my Droid 1 for months. This afternoon I downloaded Autokiller Memory Optimizer on my phone to see if it would speed it up a little. That's when I noticed my ads returned. I opened Adfree and it said an update was available for new hostnames. After selecting "download & install hosts", Adfree stays stuck on "connecting...". I assumed Autokiller Memory Optimizer had something to do with it, so I uninstalled it from my phone. I still had the same problem with Adfree. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adfree, but I still have the same problem. Superuser has granted Adfree permission and I can't figure out what went wrong or how to fix it. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try Uninstalling Ad Free, then re-installing it?
I had this same problem, but a little toggle on Adfree made it work for me.
On mine this is what it looks like..
After you open your app, I should check the 2nd option (Use 127.0.0.1) and at the end the symlink from data/data/hosts check that as well.
thats whats been working for me, if it doesn't work i'll try to help you out more.
Tried both of those and still no luck.
Yeah adfree isn't working for me either... hopefully they'll fix it tomorrow.

Confirmed...app is broken. Update/install hosts file no longer works on new or existing installs.
Roger that. No go. Just when I flashed a clean rom. Lol

You guys are right, right after posting this I got a notification setting new hosts and now I can't update them its a problem from the app dev just wait a day or two and they'll fix it
Seems to be fixed just now.
It was looping like 10 minutes yesterday, now it takes 3 minutes on that screen and it shows "Update Successful".
Tried it again this morning, and Adfree updated in about a minute or so. Ads are gone again. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Same, back working again as well.
Should add that the 'Droid Overclock' app provides a minimal ad-blocking ability as well which can work in a pinch while waiting on Adfree to update. It isn't nearly as flexible and the app does have a minimal cost, but thought I would mention it.
Thanks all!

Same Thing Happened To Me, Never Found The Source Of The Problem, But A Definite Fix Is To Do A Nandroid Backup!! But As A Alternative You Can "TRY" To Install **CACHE-MATE** And Run The App, That Method "WORKED" For Me!! Good-Luck!!

Can anyone help me get this working please?
i have installed ..granted superuser..checked 2nd option and checked symlink option ......it says connecting and please wait while your hosts file is updated......this just says connecting and i give up after leaving it for 10 minutes each time
if i just check the box - 127.0.0.1
i just get this
failed to replace your hosts file error message
any help appreciated
tried to add some screen shots from my phone but wont allow me as im a new member
im having adfree problems also. im running the salvage 9.5 rom and adfree was working til it recently updated. it says there are new host but when i update i get this error "java.io.EOFException". anyone know what to do?
I reposted this from the "General" forum
Every since I upgraded to AdFree 0.8.41, it is not working. I tried rebooting my phone (as the app states after upgrade), uninstalled, reinstalled AdFree, and rebooted, no help. Updated again after re installation, then tried rebooting again and no help.
This app worked after I initially installed it.
The host file (\system\etc\host) looked the same throughout the process. I thought about deleting my host file, then uninstalling and reinstalling AdFree, but wasn't sure if that was a good idea.
Is there something I need to do after the update to get it to work?
I have a rooted Bionic with stock ROM.
Thank you,
Tony
Try Ad Away. It's better, in my opinion.
There are rumors that AdFree or whatever it's called is removing certain sites from the hosts file it creates. The sites that are removed of course have something to do with getting paid, if you know what I mean.
Of course this is purely rumor, but trying a different app might be worth a shot.
For apps that only use internet access for ads, like games, use Droidwall to block them from connecting completely.
Supersonic Evo 4G | MIUI | Tapatalk
I'll vouch for Ad Away, haven't tried DroidWall yet though...probably give it a try now ^^
Just curious:
Let's say I purchased an app from the Marketplace, and it was later delisted. Using Windows Phone Device Manager, I can back up the individual files for my apps, but is it possible to also restore them? Say I had to do a hard reset, or uninstalled an app, not realizing it was delisted. Is it possible to put the app back on my phone? Additionally, it's my understanding that pirated Xbox Live games will not have achievements available to them. Therefore, if there IS a way to restore apps that I've uninstalled (or otherwise lost), will it enable Xbox Live functionality if it's backed up from my phone and restored to my phone?
I did a search of the forums, but didn't find an answer, so I apologize if this has already been asked. Thank you for your time.
This won't work. There's more to an app than just its install files; it also needs to be registered with the AppMgr (this is what does things like put it in the app list) and also needs a security chamber (basically, a user account) created with custom permissions (each app runs in a different chamber).

So there's no way to ever reinstall a deleted app if it's no longer in the Marketplace? ... Damn. That sucks.
Still, thanks for your reply. Much obliged!

There should be if you check your dl history on the WP site. You can redownload apps from there and if it works anything like the Xbox marketplace, this will include delisted apps. Haven't had to do it myself yet, so cannot be sure but worth a try.

FYI, the Marketplace does not work like that for WP7. If you try to redownload an app that you previously had (free or paid) that is NO LONGER on the Marketplace, with the Reinstaller App for example, it will not find the files to do the download.
However, if you know who the developer is/was, might be able to contact them and have them send you the XAP....
So if You own the Samsung Blaze, you obviously no its loaded with bloatware you never use.
I've read you got to be careful what apps you remove, if rooted (isn't freezing threw Titanium Backup the same thing as uninstalling basically? but if you ever wanted too, you can just unfreeze to get it back?
So these are pretty much the apps i want to delete or freeze:
all share, game base, lookout, kies air, my device, mobile life somethin, more for me, pro apps, news and weather, social hub, task manager, voice talk, voice search, 411 and more, calculator, clock, email, files, local, media hub, memo, navigation, t mobile mall, t mobile TV, t mobile video, slacker radio, tags, talk, yelp
Are any of these apps not safe to delete!?!?
now, if it safe to get rid of these apps, should i just freeze threw TB or find a app with root permissions to uninstall completely?
help will be thanked and appriecated
Those all sound safe for removal. Its pretty easy to know what and not to delete. But why remove Task Manager? Its pretty useful.
I deleted everything you listed except: all share, kies air, social hub, task manager, voice talk, voice search, calculator, clock, email, files, local, media hub, memo, navigation, t mobile TV, tags, talk.
And my device is working fine. I uninstalled completely using ES File Manager.

I used TB Pro, you can ditch a lot of stuff:
Lookout, allshare, gamebase, my device, mobile life, more for me, pro apps, social hub, 411, media hub tmo mall, tmo tv, tmo video, slacker, yelp, and a few more.
System manager application is CarrierIQ under a guise, if you plan to TB uninstall it, you have to freeze it first.
Reboot after you uninstall system apps or else you might get repeating force closes.
Sweet thanks for the reply you guys. Is it just the obvious system apps you can't uninstall to render your device useless like dialer, contacts and what not. Or what else can? Or is it just like the hidden stuff you can't see in the app drawer like system UI and stuff like that?

Yes and no. You wouldn't want to delete Messaging app for example. I once deleted that on my previous phone, thinking I can just replace it with a third party messaging app from the Market (now called Play Store), but I kept getting force closing problems, and had to restore back to stock. So yes, don't delete stuff like the dialer.
I took everything out except WIFI calling. Some people report not being able to boot up after removing bloatware but I never experienced that.

Yes, but if you don't want to update, it's safe, right? And also, you can just get it back from the Play Store.
You can see what you removed in TB in the backup/restore section .....
At the bottom of the list. You'll see a thin white line through the name of the application.

This is probably a stupid question but...
I've been trying for the past 3 days to download this app from the Google play store, but it says it's incompatible with my device (Xperia SP).
I've used Market Helper and it didn't work.
I've tried editing my build.prop and it bricked my phone (lol) I recovered it but lost all my contacts
Anyway, I've resorted to sideloading it. The problem is, since I've installed it I'm getting push ad notifications and popups on my home screen, browser etc.
So, is there anything I can download to stop the adware or somehow remove the adware without uninstalling said app?
Thanks

That makes no sense. What do you mean by removing that without uninstalling ? Your statement is self contradictory.
If you are rooted you can freeze that app using Titanium Backup.
Why don't you try AdAway ?

Hi, I mean I want to keep the app but I also want to stop it from putting ads on my phone and notification bar as well.
I just downloaded AdAway and turned off notifications from that app in the settings so hopefully that will work.

You are welcome.AdWare is supposed to block and remove ads and notifications on your phone. If you are still getting ads or the app itself is putting ads and notifications then it's not serving the purpose either it's not working or malfunctioning (broken codes).
Is that an Ad-supported app ?If it is,then that's not an issue.AdAway will block those ads.
