Just curious:
Let's say I purchased an app from the Marketplace, and it was later delisted. Using Windows Phone Device Manager, I can back up the individual files for my apps, but is it possible to also restore them? Say I had to do a hard reset, or uninstalled an app, not realizing it was delisted. Is it possible to put the app back on my phone? Additionally, it's my understanding that pirated Xbox Live games will not have achievements available to them. Therefore, if there IS a way to restore apps that I've uninstalled (or otherwise lost), will it enable Xbox Live functionality if it's backed up from my phone and restored to my phone?
I did a search of the forums, but didn't find an answer, so I apologize if this has already been asked. Thank you for your time.
This won't work. There's more to an app than just its install files; it also needs to be registered with the AppMgr (this is what does things like put it in the app list) and also needs a security chamber (basically, a user account) created with custom permissions (each app runs in a different chamber).

So there's no way to ever reinstall a deleted app if it's no longer in the Marketplace? ... Damn. That sucks.
Still, thanks for your reply. Much obliged!

There should be if you check your dl history on the WP site. You can redownload apps from there and if it works anything like the Xbox marketplace, this will include delisted apps. Haven't had to do it myself yet, so cannot be sure but worth a try.

FYI, the Marketplace does not work like that for WP7. If you try to redownload an app that you previously had (free or paid) that is NO LONGER on the Marketplace, with the Reinstaller App for example, it will not find the files to do the download.
However, if you know who the developer is/was, might be able to contact them and have them send you the XAP....

Hi folks,
I'm just wondering of there's a reason why I can't access some apps I was able to find before in the market?
Quick Settings, Launcherpro beta, Adw launcher, Zeam, etc, are nowhere to be find now...
I've got some of them on my download page on the market app and I also wonder if I can still access the updates.

Thanks for the reply. Ill try to find out.
Maybe your market access keys are incorrect because you have installed a custom rom? For example, test versions from Huawei have test keys installed that will not list all applications. You need to use proper release keys provided by carrier.
Thanks speckles, you point a different possible problem. Even if I don't have a custom rom: just a Milestone 2.1 rooted.

Well, I think that I have the proper one for I didn't changed it. Can you tell me how can I check this? (I've got still a lot to learn.)
I have been reading a little on old and similar problems, often related issues with protected app, like paid/protected app on rooted phones - and regardless to the models, countries, carriers, and maybe even to the versions.
I am not sure to be concerned, I mean it's a bit different in my case. For instance, I have Tapatalk pro installed and which is protected but I can still find it on the market (I mean outside of the download tab).
So far, my problem only concerns some free apps.
There were from long time app that I wasn't able to find on the market (like TV.com), by example when using appbrain. But now, that's the first time I can't find apps I had already downloaded and that I've got installed. (I spotted the problem while recommending apps to a friend who's got a Desire since a few days. He was himself unable to find them, like Quick settings.)
Edit --
Scanning a barcode pointing on the apps in the market do not work as well.
Some solutions points to the build.prop:
Root your phone and modify your /system/build.prop with the fingerprint of a build that actually works. Then clear all data and cache from the market and google apps, reboot, set your clock to 23:59 and wait 5 minutes to force a refresh of the data before starting the Market app. You'll have to supply your Google account details again but this should work around the problem.

Useful as well:
From MasDroid, on XDA -14th April 2010, 08:59 PM
I've read about this issue which was recently explained by a developer of XDA (nprussell).
Apparently everyone is in the same boat so to speak. He states that many "protected" apps are missing from the market. There are generally two reasons why apps will be missing from the market:
When a new ROM or handset is released, the manufacturer (i.e. HTC), sends the build to Google for verification, which includes a 'Fingerprint' (a unique line of text which governs its market access) in one of the build files. Generally, it states the name of the phone and Android version in the fingerprint. With Root & System write access, this fingerprint can be changed, but although it's been claimed that the Desire has recently been Rooted, we still don't have confirmation from any developer of it being able to gain System write access.
Only until Google approve the build, then fingerprint will be added to their allowed database to view these protected apps on the market.
The other cause for apps missing from the market in builds is because of permissions of certain apps. For example, the barcode scanner app requires permissions to use the camera/auto focus. They are NOT protected apps. If the XML permission files are missing from system/etc/permissions, then Google Market will simply block these apps from showing.
HTC need to chase Google up on this and Google need to activate the Fingerprint.

I have tried to replace my build.prop (using one from a Telus Milestone) but nothing has changed. Maybe I need to erase the market's data as told in the second quote but I'm not sure to know how to do it.
I have the same problem. (Htc desire Vodafone/the Netherlands/original ROM) There was an OTA update few days a go. After that most of the installed apps couldn't be found. It seems that this affected a lot of people...check the comments on launcherpro an adw launcher websites

If you have edited your build.props, then it can take upto 24 hours for them to be published to the market. So wait a few days.
If it still doesn't work, try Eris Market Fix after doing a nandroid backup. Again, you may have to wait about 24 hours before noticing any changes.
I think i have same problem here. Finland/HTC Desire/Stock ROM.
There should be LauncherPro in market right? Had to dl new one from LP's site.
I have got everything back and I'm still using the same build.prop. So I believe that the market had been fixed.
Hope it's the same for you!
I know that you can push free apps directly to your phone (even those not in the Market on CM6!), but I can't find any way to update those that are out of date. They show up on the "Updates" list on the phone, but when I view them on AppBrain.com they just say "Uninstall." Any way to do this easily?
I'm a bit confused, they show up on the "updates" list where exactly?

OH, my mistake. I think I misread your original title. I don't know of a way to push updates remotely. But I do know that in froyo updates can be set to automatically apply without user intervention (which is what I figure you are really after, the lack of confirming each individually install).
Maybe hypershell could be utilized in conjunction with something else...I believe thats what titanium backup pro utilizes to bypass the user clicks.

I'm trying to find a way to update my apps in CM6 that aren't showing in the Market. I've already confirmed that I'm able to install free apps that aren't showing up for me via AppBrain (sent ChompSMS straight to my EVO and it installed without the Market). Now I just want to update my existing apps.
Transformer just arrived. All set up and using my existing Google Account.
However, if i click on any paid apps in the market it states 'Sorry, details page for the requested item could not be found' ....
Its let me sync all my other apps, including paid ones, and it recognised my ID ...
what am i missing ??
There are a couple of other threads open on this, it seems that from yesterday some users are starting to experience the same market issues. I have the same problem and it started this morning, i don't think its a problem with your account or set up. I have emailed Google apps, awaiting their reply or a fix from other users.
If I were a betting person I'd say we're not far off an update of the market that will add a proper tablet specific section, just like itunes has for iphone/ipad apps, as any time an app is reported a few times that it's crashing/FC'ing in honeycomb, it seems to get blocked for tablet installations. So maybe it has something to do with a google reshuffle of the way apps are viewed.

You could be right but it is not affecting incompatible apps, it is any paid app, i have installed a few from your thread prior to this issue and now cannot install new ones you have added as compatible e.g. backup pro.

Yeah but I'd assume paid apps were on different servers, as they would have more encrypted data, so possibly one section could be affected while the other remains untouched during an upgrade.

Mmm... possibly, will have to wait and see, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just started getting this today too :-(
I was getting this quite a bit last night, but it wasn't only for paid apps. Some free ones had the problem as well. My workaround for a paid app that I hadn't yet purchased was to buy it on my computer and it was automatically sent to my device.
I got it only once today, don't remember which app. But it has worked fine generally.
I got this message on a few different apps last night. I was able to get around it by either hitting the back button instead of OK in the popup. Or by going to the market through the browser and pushing the app to my device. The market app for HC is really lacking at this point. You can't even review apps. Hopefully they will update soon.

I'm getting this too.
Temporary solution is to download any app from market.android.com and have it manually download from your browser to your tablet.
I can't install from the market web app - get a notice that I "have not opened the market recently on this device" (which I have - I'm in it now..)
So i am just wondering, there are so much different apps for android on the market, and most of them has a lot of access to phone's functions. Now for example i am always logged in to Gmail, and theoretically can a random app scan and copy my gmail's data and send it trough internet? Really curious..

This question is not really an issue of Android security this is a question about general security. Can an app look at your gmail app directly and copy data and send it out...not exactly no, an app can't forcibly connect itself to another app to scan data.
However...
That question is actually not relevant because such a task is unnecessary for malicious apps. Lets say you install a malicious app that wants to copy your gmail data. What it will do is not watch the app itself but it will watch the network packets being sent to and from the app, logging and tracking those.
This is not the only way to get the data though because any data saved on your sdcard is accessible from an app if you give it permission to do so.
The MOST important thing to look at when installing an app is the permissions the app is requesting when it installs. This can be confusing as well because some apps will request full internet access because they need it but this can also be used by a malicious app to steal your data.
The important thing to do is research. The more you learn about the app the better off you are.
-------
Just to clarify, this applies to all apps of any kind on any platform including but not limited to Android, iPhones, Blackberry, Windows Phone, WebOS, Windows PC, Mac OSX, Linux or etc. - ALWAYS learn as much as you can and are comfortable with before installing anything...if you are not comfortable with a particular app or learning more about it then don't install it. That is not to say it may be malicous, it is just to say it could be a bad idea for other reasons. (for example, if it is a developer tool or a configuration tool that you don't understand or haven't researched enough to understand...then you could potentially damage your device with something that is a legitimate tool)

Good answer, you are right!, but you say do a research before installing, but it's not really possible unless you are a programmer and checking whole code The best rated apps still have many different permission requirement and i have no idea what they are doing.
For example app can request a new password change for example on paypal and steal packets which come to my gmail about new password.^^
Security Apps
Hi,
in my eyes the best way is to use programs like PDroid. You cann adjist the rights of every App regarding send SMS for example.
LBE Privacy Guard may be also an Option. (runs not on my Device - SGS+)
(i use Pdroid 2.0)
you should also read the comments in the store, and the needed rights from the app before install. The best Apps to trust are open source apps.

Research generally involves a Google search...
Editor's Choice in the market are safe bets, you know, the blue icon.
But then there are the millions of other apps, and frankly, I tend to toe the app name plus xda for instance, Google will show you xda threads about the app, if the posts are normal, you can be sure it's not malicious.
Stuff like that...
Also, fake market comments are really easy to spot and are a dead giveaway

Hello, I need xda's help.
This is for a learning tab that uses in academy. This app makes that we can download apps, but these apps are gone because this app intercepted downloaded apps. In addition, this app intercept apps that app was in tab. Like internent, chrome, maps, google+, youtube and so on. And it makes that we can't use another aps in class. So this was a describing this app. I want that first, we can download apps and we can use it for permanent. Secondly, I can use another apps in class. Thirdly, we unlock apps that was blocked. Finally, this was a very hard for me. This three apps has administrator rights. If we want to release it, this tab is restarting. This app is asssociated with chungdahm learning. I want you to we can use another apps for permanent, next, use another apps in class, thirdly, I want to unlock apps that blocked. Finally, to release administrator rights. I will link it for Dropbox. It has cdi launcher 2.4.20, cdi guardian 2.2.9
Sorry but I'll upload cdi utility later. So I want you to modify these three apps.
But it's ok that you modify these three apps for that we can use another apps for permanent. Thank you. And if you modified it, can you send these three files for [email protected]? It is my gmail. If you give me an email to this, I'll give you a file for you

Contrary to the popular belief, XDA is not a site that will help you to "hack" into anything. If certain apps are blocked at your college, it will be for a reason.
I am sorry, you will have to look else where.
