I just dropped my diamond by accident while running to my car to avoid the rain =="....
It was in a PDA case, but it still somehow popped out of the case and got scratched up...
So I am in DIRE NEED OF A REPLACEMENT HOUSING!!!
lucky for me, the only damaged parts were the metal rim around the front side of the phone and the battery cover...
I am thinking of just getting an extended battery so i can get a new battery cover with it as well.
But I can't find the Replacement part for the rim around the front of the phone...
I took a lot at the phone and it seems easy enough to replace the rim....but i need to find the part first....
Please guys, any help will be very much appreciated....
Really need this housing replacement...can't stand looking at my scratched up diamond =(
phones still in its early stages so gonna be hard to get hold of housing so quick. Usually best place is here
http://cnn.cn/shop/touch-diamond-c-277_533.html
but they only have screen and back plate at the moment
just be patient a little bit longer.
does that shop deliver quickly??
would it be possible to ask for oem parts directly from htc...?
i talked it over with htc canada today and it may cost upwards 100 CDN to fix the cosmetic damage =(
no insurance?
uh no...i've never insured a phone before....
never thought it would the belt clip would break and let the phone fall and get scratched =="
argh...
any ideas on what to do...
should just take out the rim and touch it up myself ^^"....
oh i've got an idea =D!!!!
I can buy a dummy phone and replace it directly that way...
right.....?

In a very rare occasion you can use dummy phones.
Mostly the inside is completely different, no way of using those dummies for housing parts.
Haven't seen a dummy Diamond yet, so I can't tell if it is usable, but mostly HTC dummies aren't usable.

i'm just lokoing to replace the outer rim on the front side of the phone and the battery cover....?
so maybe its possible...
ill drop by a local mall and see if its possible i guess....
loads of dummy diamond phones on ebay the last time i check it out.
i wouldn't say loads...
i saw a total of 4 =P lol
average 20-30 dollars CDN
which is fine for me if i can use it as housing and battery cover replacement
anyways heading out to check the dummy model =)
it doesn't work =(
its one giant piece, so i can't really take it apart to replace the piece i want...
How hard is it to take apart the diamond?
The invisible shield really stuffed up my screen. I can see parts flaked off the screen (looks like a thin protection layer) which is believe is the touch sensor itself. It has not affected the use of the phone but looks ugly.
EDIT: Home from work and did a search and found this: http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor-htc-touch-diamond/
Looks like a lot of work to get to the digitizer.
wow amazing find...was looking for a page like this...
aw man...the housing is one whole piece from what i can tell from the last picture...guess a DIY housing replacement is not really gonna be easy....
i'm gonna ask HTC for an estimate....
just minor cosmetic damage on mine on the corners so nothing too huge but it pains me to see it every time =(
at least this seems a bit easier than fixing the iphone....its so much work to put in a new digitizer cause of the way the housing is built
Looking for the Telus Black rear cover
If anyone finds a place that is selling the black rear battery cover for the CDMA version of the phone i would be interested.
anyone have any lucking finding a replacement housing?
I can provide the replacement housing

Like this??

Hello,
Today the round button on my Touch Pro cracked, it's a small crack, but it's definitely noticeable. So far it's working properly, both the capacitive and pressing functions. Should I be worried? Is it possible to find the housing for sale so I can replace it?
My warranty is only valid until jan 15, which is 3 days from now, but that would take at least a couple of weeks without my phone, and I don't even know if the warranty covers cracked housing.
The weirdest thing is that I did nothing to the phone, actually I don't even know how long it's been there, I just noticed it today.
So, should I keep it anyway?
Thanks.

**** that sucks i was under the impression that you cracked the softwar to remap it... not literally.. LOL again that sucks. There is a websight for mike channon, (an xda member) Who has step by step of how to disassemble htc phones. Maybe there is a parts directory for Htc and you may be able to replace by yourself! Check it out. adeus

I'll do that, I don't feel like using my warranty, now that I got used to it I barely notice the crack. If something gets worse though I will search for the replacement part.
Thanks!
Brando has a complete replacement housing (minus the lcd/touchscreen, which Brando sells separately):
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03811&dept_id=088&cat_id=0670
It's a bit expensive for just replacing one part, but it might not be a bad idea to keep the extra parts handy.

That seems like a great solution! It will definitely be an option if things get worse. Thanks a lot both of you, because I'll obviously need to disassemble it too.
I ordered the digitizer from deal extreme that was around 30 bucks, it took about 15 days from the day of purchase to when it showed up at my doorstep in oklahoma. Coming from Hong Kong thats about average I think.
The digitizer itself is indistinguishable from the original HTC one, the replacement was not easy but it only took me about an hour and a half. If this was my first phone repair ever it'd probably have taken me 4 hours or so. If you have all the proper tools and have dissasembled a phone before it should be fairly easy and quick. The worst part is that the digitizer is glued to the frame on the nexus with firm pressure I popped the stock one out and replaced it with the new one using loctite brand superglue to affix the new one.
All in all I highly recommend this digitizer and if you have the tools and the time do it yourself I couldn't bring myself to pay someone over 100 bucks to fix my phone.
Cheers for the info, I bought one from eBay which looked identical in the picture. However when I received it, it lacked the bottom buttons and top curve meaning I had gaps at both the top and bottom. Long story short I need to purchase another in the coming weeks and was looking at this one, thanks again
Forgive my extreme noobness here, but digitizer - is it the thingy that's responsible for registering touches on the screen?

Yes it is. Its top part of the screen that you touch and that part that gets scratched/ broken when people drop it.
Cool!
any change in responsiveness over stock?

It seems to be more responsive than the stock one but I bet when the other one got cracked it lost some response so I don't have anything good to compare it to now.

No it does not.
Just wanted to let you guys know
Tonight I replaced the S-LCD for my N1 with an ebay one, and the speaker with an ebay one too.
It was stressful because there was always the chance you could break it. Thankfully it was a success* and I did spend a couple hours applying new BSE and Clarivue protectors too.
Phone feels like new (its only 2 months old btw...) hehe
N1 is a great developer phone truly. In all aspects of the word. I see it now!
*did scrape my bottom "U-cover" ..the one which has the HTC logo. A little teflon peeled at the edge with the plastic pry tools (they're really not too strong though and wore quickly i might add. Recommend using a guitar pick like i saw one guy use on the online videos).
Anyways, short of buying a replacement of the $11 part, I'm really please with this phone
Is it possible to swap the AMOLED screen with an SLCD screen or are there actual hardware differences between the two models preventing that swap?

Good question. I was going to say "No, because I read it somewhere on the forums that you can't" , but then I found this thread:
http://androidforums.com/nexus-one/...ny-way-backup-wipe-before-sending-repair.html
Turns out the guy sent his AMOLED N1 to HTC to get repaired, and that they changed it with an S-LCD without changing his scratched digitizer.
I'm guessing that they are cost effective and mindful with warranties, so I doubt that they would have changed the whole Mobo for S-LCD functionality.
Again, this is just heresay and postulation.
"Got jacked.. 180 euro and all they did was replace my cracked Amoled with an SLCD... the blacks and gradients on the SLCD are awful. I was told the cover glass came together with the amoled. Mine is a little scratched so that would have been worth the extra $$. I had gone online to look around and found out after I prepaid that the front glass and the amoled are completely separate. My prepaid receipt just stated repair screen... so I could not go after them for not swapping my front glass. Anyways rant over. Very happy to have the phone back but it is not the same without the amoled."

Hey bud,
I thought about this yesterday, but short of a definitive answer coming through from other devs, i thought I'd offer to mail you my S-LCD (pre-replacement one, with some minor humidity damage, only viewable at an above 39 degree angle)...to you for free* (just paypal me the shipping. It'll probably be like $5 by weight). Let me know.
cracked screen. Do i just need to replace the screen(cheaper)? or just replace phone.
Uhhhh, what do you want to do? If you fix the digitizer screen, it would be cheaper than buying a new phone. But I think that question is up to you.
I have to agree with what he^ said. It is up to you. It is not that hard with the right tools, right amount of time, and of course common sense. I have helped a buddy replace his cracked screen over the phone and it worked out fine. Mind you if you dont have any experence doing this before. Read, watch videos, Read some more. Oh yeah and take your time. If you rush it you will break something important.

I have a broken screen as well. Everything works fine so I think it's just the actual glass. I took it to a store and the guy tells me that he can't replace it.
He tells me that the actual glass and digitizer are two different things... is this the case? I looked for replacement parts on amazon and the touch screen glass seem to be attached to digitizer.
Please advise?
Thanks

He is right they are 2 different parts but most replacements come with it as one part.
Here is the part my buddy got.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Desire-A9191-Inspire-Replacement/dp/B004TDVF6M
Thank for your help.
The guy at the store told me that he just ordered the digitizer part alone.
I have looked online and found the same product you just linked me with, the screen and digitizer together.
I will order that and the tools together and do it myself.
Would you recommend that?

Personally I have always done my own work. This way I cant blame anyone other then myself if something goes wrong. As long as you take your time and do your research you should be fine.
The digitizer and the glass are 1 part. Well they are separate parts but only the manufacturer can assemble them. So the guy at the store was correct in saying that he cannot replace just the glass. Anything you buy on the net is the touchscreen and glass screen combined into one unit. It is that way for most touchscreen phones. Thanks ThEiiNoCeNT for pointing that out about iphones.
I replaced a friends iPhone screen a few weeks ago and I can say it didn't come with both the digitizer and glass.
Just didn't want you to assume ALL phone replacement screens come together.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
can you guys point me in the right direction to find instructions on how to to do it myself and where i can get the tools...i cracked my screen but everything else works fine on the phone

Hey guys. 1st post. So I was riding my bike, and my phone fell out of my bag. The phone works fine, but the glass is shattered pretty bad. The screen protector was holding it together for a bit, but after a day, it started peedling off and little shards of glass were preventing it from sticking. I want to replace it myself.
The question I have is, what do I buy? Digitializer, Glass, Screen replacement kit? Im not sure what they all are. Additionally, could anyone link me to a vendor they have used in the past with good results? I dont want to buy any kit, as I have read that some of them are slower and you can tell its a replacement vs authentic.

as it was your first post i recommend to read the guide (how to be a new user not a noob) link in my signature..it'll help you with doing basic things in xda
also it's better if you ask this question in sensation accessories thread ..as it has lots of links to broken digitizer...
here is one good one i found
