[Q] cracked screen - HTC Inspire 4G

cracked screen. Do i just need to replace the screen(cheaper)? or just replace phone.

Uhhhh, what do you want to do? If you fix the digitizer screen, it would be cheaper than buying a new phone. But I think that question is up to you.

I have to agree with what he^ said. It is up to you. It is not that hard with the right tools, right amount of time, and of course common sense. I have helped a buddy replace his cracked screen over the phone and it worked out fine. Mind you if you dont have any experence doing this before. Read, watch videos, Read some more. Oh yeah and take your time. If you rush it you will break something important.

I have a broken screen as well. Everything works fine so I think it's just the actual glass. I took it to a store and the guy tells me that he can't replace it.
He tells me that the actual glass and digitizer are two different things... is this the case? I looked for replacement parts on amazon and the touch screen glass seem to be attached to digitizer.
Please advise?
Thanks

He is right they are 2 different parts but most replacements come with it as one part.
Here is the part my buddy got.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Desire-A9191-Inspire-Replacement/dp/B004TDVF6M

Thank for your help.
The guy at the store told me that he just ordered the digitizer part alone.
I have looked online and found the same product you just linked me with, the screen and digitizer together.
I will order that and the tools together and do it myself.
Would you recommend that?

Personally I have always done my own work. This way I cant blame anyone other then myself if something goes wrong. As long as you take your time and do your research you should be fine.

The digitizer and the glass are 1 part. Well they are separate parts but only the manufacturer can assemble them. So the guy at the store was correct in saying that he cannot replace just the glass. Anything you buy on the net is the touchscreen and glass screen combined into one unit. It is that way for most touchscreen phones. Thanks ThEiiNoCeNT for pointing that out about iphones.

I replaced a friends iPhone screen a few weeks ago and I can say it didn't come with both the digitizer and glass.
Just didn't want you to assume ALL phone replacement screens come together.

Cracked round button

Hello,
Today the round button on my Touch Pro cracked, it's a small crack, but it's definitely noticeable. So far it's working properly, both the capacitive and pressing functions. Should I be worried? Is it possible to find the housing for sale so I can replace it?
My warranty is only valid until jan 15, which is 3 days from now, but that would take at least a couple of weeks without my phone, and I don't even know if the warranty covers cracked housing.
The weirdest thing is that I did nothing to the phone, actually I don't even know how long it's been there, I just noticed it today.
So, should I keep it anyway?
Thanks.

**** that sucks i was under the impression that you cracked the softwar to remap it... not literally.. LOL again that sucks. There is a websight for mike channon, (an xda member) Who has step by step of how to disassemble htc phones. Maybe there is a parts directory for Htc and you may be able to replace by yourself! Check it out. adeus

I'll do that, I don't feel like using my warranty, now that I got used to it I barely notice the crack. If something gets worse though I will search for the replacement part.
Thanks!
Brando has a complete replacement housing (minus the lcd/touchscreen, which Brando sells separately):
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03811&dept_id=088&cat_id=0670
It's a bit expensive for just replacing one part, but it might not be a bad idea to keep the extra parts handy.

That seems like a great solution! It will definitely be an option if things get worse. Thanks a lot both of you, because I'll obviously need to disassemble it too.

[Q] Anyone have to replace their LCD screen?

Mine shattered today and I need to replace it. Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on what site to use to get a new one and how easy/hard it is.
They are expensive I paid 50 for mine . Your best bet is ebay

I replaced mine, pretty easy. You can check out youtube for video tutorials, and yeah, the digitizer is pretty pricey. Just make sure you have some adhesive available and take your time.
I will be needing to replace mine. The part should arrive soon, this is what I ordered;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QXQXYI/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
It comes with a new bezel attached and with power/volume buttons pre-assembled. Rather nifty if I do say so myself.

That's a very handy assembly. I spent probably 2 hours getting the tape in all the right places to put it together.
Digitizer
I had to repace one on the G2x I got off ebay awhile back. I would suggest that you check out the youtube video on disassembly. You have to be careful when you get to the part where you lift out the motherboard. You have to lift up the old digitizer cable connector as well as the lcd screen will be somewhat stuck to a gasket around the face. Once you get past that it should go fine. The best price for a digitizer is on ebay, just make sure you get the one with the frame. Good luck.
Eddie
Also make sure you buy one with adhesive on the frame cause mine didn't have it and its getting a hole bunch of dust specs

Send it to LG. Factory tech replacement with original part for around $70.00. If I had that option that is the route I would go.

I just replaced my wife's digitizer. I got the white one from California on ebay. Simple if you are good with your hands. Take your time, I glued the new digitizer cause that's how lg did it. Works flawlessly.

I don't know their actual stance on this, but I don't think they should care/find out that it's rooted.
#1 if you are paying for their service, it's not a warranty issue.
#2 why would they even need to poke around in your phone to replace the screen?

[Q] Sidekick 4g glass broken

Hello all,
The glass cover on my sidekick got broken accidentally. The LCD works fine.
I'm planning to get a replacement front panel glass.
I found the following link on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tmobile-Sam...ultDomain_0&hash=item2c605f3c7e#ht_2045wt_905
Is this an original OEM part as described? After it's replaced will it work as good as the original?
Any other options other than the above ebay link?
Please help!
Regards,
sammydude
God only knows. It'll probably work though.
Sorry this is late, but the ribbin cable and glass seem to be just like the original. Let us know how it went.

How did you break it? I'm asking only because I know this is a pretty durable phone, I've already dropped it screen first on gravel, without a scratch to show of it.
This looks legit to me. Digitizer is the key word. I've replaced many of these on different phones. As long as it's a ditizer for the correct phone model number. Are you doing this yourself? There should be some good tutorials on disassembly on youtube.

@AFAinHD It was bizarre! My watch was on a chair. My wife threw my watch onto the bed saying "here it is. keep it ". The metal part of the watch fell on the mobile (the bevel part of the glass). You could imagine our shock after that!!

Not planning to do this myself. There's a good servicing person (freelancer) for all kinds of mobiles. Planning to give it to him.
Thank you all for your replies! Planning to go for it. Will let you all know how it went! Just hope I'm able to get it back to its original condition. Hmmm...

LCD replaced, bottom quarter not responsive, bottom buttons no life. HELP

Hey guys, so i dropped my phone a couple of times which ended up in a smashed screen/lcd. i bought a replacement from eBay and installed it. it powered on fine, but the bottom quarter of the screen is very unresponsive and unreliable, the bottom row of buttons have no life in them whatsoever. the top half is fine. the lcd isn't sitting quite flush in the casing, although having a play around with it i couldn't solve the problem. has anyone been through the same situation and would care to shed some light?
Many thanks
I should also add, i didn't use any more adhesive, i thought the bit of leftoverstuff might of held it. could this possibly be what it is? do i need loads of adhesive to pad it out? is it avaliable on the high street or is it internet only?
anyone?

Sorry mate - I missed this post first time around. I have also replaced both my LCD and my Digitiser before now. You really need to do the replacement properly - when the adhesive is heated up so that you can separate the two parts you should remove as much of the old adhesive as you possibly can and then replace it with new stuff correctly and accurately. If the two part are touching then that may cause you a problem - although it may not.
You could have any of three real causes for this;-
1) The new digitiser cable isn't inserted correctly or is damaged somehow
2) The misuse of adhesive
3) The digitiser you bought might be cheap and sub-standard

I bought mine from Amazon I think - but it only comes on rolls of about 50 metres. Are you in the UK by any chance?
Yep - got mine here £4.99 + £4.50 delivery. I hardly used any and posted my roll on recently to another XDA member who needed some.

Yeah i bought the digitizer and lcd together.
So i tried applying adhesive, had a nightmare with rounded screws/drivers but eventually got it back together. now it's charging and won't turn on.. still isn't sitting right, may give up unless there's someone out there that would fix it for <£20? i've got all the bits (probably will need new screws) just don't have the know-how.
I can't promise a miracle, but if you want to post it for me to have a look at then drop me a PM.
Do you feel pressing power-on key?

Thanks buddy, dang $50 is a bit more than I wanted to spend. I am trying to source a broken phone with a good screen to do a translate on it. If I find one I will let you know. Maybe we could meet up at 3rd place books some night and knock it out.

All of the info you need, you can find here.
They also show the recommended tools. I don't have a heat gun, but I do have the percision screwdriver set (I think I have a few of them), and I just use medium soft guitar picks instead of their more expensive prying tools.
In the end, you will spend some money up front to get any tools you'd need, but you'll have them if you need them again.
The screen is expensive, because it also replaces the digitizer - which is why it is more expensive.
You could always go the commercial repair route. I highly recommend adding unbrickable mod, but it's super hard (or easy if you don't pay attention to your model number) to brick the sgh-t959v.
sorry about your broken screen, i just wonder u had a screen protector film on it or not ?
